South African novelist Nadine Gordimer has died. Only read one of her books, "A World of Strangers," and that was while I was in South Africa. Loved the writing style, but so much had changed in South Africa by then that it seemed dated.

For some reason Amazon.com and Netflix are not working on my new smart tv.

Netflix hasn't worked for a few weeks, but for Amazon.com it has been just recently.

Youtube works fine.

I don't know what is the matter, but I hope it is an easy fix which does not require taking my giant tv into a repair shop.

We would like some Polar Vortex in Salem, Oregon, 97301 please. It is supposed to be near 100 every day this week.

Yesterday we have some rain and thunderstorms, and it was very nice.

Last night I finally watched, for the very first time, the 1939 HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME. What a magnificent film! Why have I avoided it all of these years???

I am now eager to see the silent Lon Chaney version and then the 1960s Pakistani version.

I will probably pass on the Demi Moore/Jason Alexander verions, however.

Thanks DR CHAS SMITH and DR ELMORE......I of course was only working one day a week, but it still makes me a little sad.  I have been there since 2006.....my sister Molly started working there under the previous owner in the late 90's....and my sister bought the store in 2007.

I am officially OUT OF WORK with nothing on the horizon for the first time since 1994.

TOD:   Little Pigs of America barbecue still vibes as the best BBQ I've ever eaten.  It was a franchise in South Carolina and it was delish.

I've had some ribs, from a local store in east Oakland, that are really good, as well.

I like all kinds of Barbecue but I'm more intrigued/aligned now with Carolina BBQ that is mustard-based.

I buy Kinder's BBQ sauce....original to which I add a little apple vinegar to sour it just a tad.

Kinder's also makes a Carolina-style sauce I enjoy very much.

That was my first, too.  I think it was the "known", current one when we wuz kids.  It was years before I saw the Chaney or Laughton.

DR MBarnum, someone told me there's an interesting Pakastani DRACULA, too.  Do you know it?

I don't think I've seen that Quinn/Lollabrigida HUNCHBACK since my teen years, and have no real memories of it.

Why the latter post?  Because I stumbled across it quite by accident, because it's peppy, because Debbie Reynolds is so impossibly young in it and because it made me feel good to watch it.

Song of lament by a "To Kill A Mockingbird" addict:

Why is it I spend the day
Wake up and end the day
Thinking of Boo?

Oh, why does it do this to me
Is it such bliss to be
Thinking of Boo?

And when I fall asleep at night, it seems
Boo just tiptoes into all my dreams.

So, I think of no other one
Ever since I've begun
Thinking of Boo!

DR Druxy, After reading she lost everything, including her cats, I'm glad she has her dogs.  Where is she now and are her dogs with her?

Thinking about her cats is very upsetting.  I wish her vibes of comfort!

My sister loved the original "Dune" movie...I think.  I know she loved the books (at least, until Frank Herbert died).  I may have to get "Jodorowski’s Dune" for her birthday in September.  She might be interested...or she might not.  I think it sounds pretty interesting.

I thought the movie was just ok but then I didn't expect it to be as good as the book.

There was a review in Sunday's Washington Post of the new bio of Harper Lee. It seems that in her hometown, there's a restaurant named Radley's. How appetizing is that?

The metaphysical/wiccan community is so full of jealous, hateful people that there will be much joy that World of Wisdom is no more....and that is what makes me most sad.

That is sad they are like that.

The cafeteria near my desk stopped the really bad Indian food station they had (in which the food was made by people who had never tasted Indian food before) and they've opened a barbecue stand.

I'm curious, but not enough to brave the long line that's greeted its opening day. I'll wait to hear how the brisket is before placing an order.
