Loved Bill Daily on Newhart and I Dream of Jeannie. The jazz analogy is really accurate. He had his own rhythms and they were funny.

Well, the ROBERTA mess gets messier, and the Man From Philadelphia only makes it less easy to negotiate.

TOD:

I've been listening to Bert Kaempfert and his Orchestra.  Didn't know until recently that he had signed The Beatles first back in their Hamburg days.

As a corollary, I have also been listening to Al Hirt.  Ya gotta love Hirt's all-out horns-to-the-wall rendition of Milton DeLugg's immortal "Hooray for Santy Claus" which, for the uninitiated, is the title theme from that one-of-a-kind yuletide classic, Santa Claus Conquers The Martians.  He wails his horn so hard that he could have popped his eyes out or blown out a few stitches at least.  I can't imagine not having had a headache after that recording session.  The song is fun though, even though once you have heard it, you'll have a lot of difficulty not humming it uncontrollably, and that's not always fun.

[Kaempfert and Hirt both recorded the song "Java" which was written by Allen Toussaint for piano.]

I guess I've been in a trumpet mood, certainly not that I'm brassy LOL.

Definitely announcing two titles on Monday, although one of them is not what was originally planned - that one will follow two weeks later, but the one that is substituted, which we got approval on within ten minutes, is really going to appeal to denizens of this here site - the first ever official and complete release of a film musical and a rare one at that.  In fact, if you read today's notes you might just be able to figure out which it is.

To continue memories of Elaine Stritch, here is a piece written by John Lahr in 2002. It's about the writing of and working with Stritch on At Liberty

We are off to the liquor store, and then to a friend's house for dinner.  Not necessarily in that order.

Watched 1968's The Swimmer.  Interesting.  I think I'll have to read the Cheever short story.

Would be interesting to hear Marvin Hamlisch's score separately.

In order to read all the posts on page 3 I had to click on "reply" and then read the most recent posts under the box.  Earlier it took me 20 minutes to open page 1 though I could read page 2.

I think we will be watching CABARET tonight.

To my surprise I saw 3 baby turkeys on the deck looking into the house.  They ran away when I attempted to photograph them.

Foods that should never go down a garbage disposal:

I didn't know about eggs, rice or pasta.  I always tell Keith not to do carrot peels or the hard ends.  As I've mentioned, with this drought barely anything goes into it so not to waste water.
