Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both a sequel and equal, and now it is time for you to post until the equal cows come home.

Sequels...the first one that comes to mind is "Star Trek II."  I think that it was very good (but I must admit that I really do like "Star Trek: The Motion Picture").

Well, I need to get to sleep now.  I'll have to finish "Falling Skies" later.  Tonight is the Joan Baez concert and I want to be rested!

Good night, all!

I have a lot on my plate today.  Sadly, it isn't barbecue.  But it will keep me E&T till sometime this evening.

Yesterday I got busy attacking my still-way-too-large record collection for the first time since installing the new cartridge recently (and oh my, that rejuvenated system is a thing to behold).  I sampled the Honegger "Jeanne d'Arc" by Ormandy.  The discs are mint, and the music sounds lovely.  It will get a complete listen-through sometime soon.

Then I went through some Bartok "Miraculous Mandarin" recordings, one of the pieces for which I had duplicates and completely unnecessary copies that needed to be weeded out.  That's been one of my favorite pieces ever since its piano part afforded my first ever participation in a real orchestra.  Years later I kept picking up various copies at used record sales, and last night, in an effort to attack the bloat, I cleaned and sampled and shedded the dupes.  Rehearing some of these was great fun.  Mr. Ormandy was present (I'd forgotten about this one) and he comports himself well, even if Messrs. Dorati and Solti come closer in pacing and intensity to the way I first got to know that ol' Mandarin.

Thanks, DR TCB.  Sheridan Whiteside is the role I auditioned for, but I also read for Banjo.....who would be a lot of fun to play.  And he doesn't come on until the last couple of scenes...so that would be nice as well.

I should hear from the director sometime today.  There was certainly someone else there Sunday who could play Sheridan, and I don't know who was there last night.  So we shall see.

TOD:

Most sequels are sub-par, but there are exceptions:

THE GODFATHER II

THE FRENCH CONNECTION II

BACK TO THE FUTURE II & III

(With the exception of Ms. Coppola, I also like GODFATHER III, though it's certainly not as good as the first two.)

Are there others?

Back in the 1970s, I wrote a book about sequels (ONE GOOD FILM DESERVES ANOTHER) that is currently pretty dated and OOP.  I think that the sequel phenomenon has become much more prolific since then...and probably not for the better.

I didn't think I would like WEEDS, but I did become a fan.  Watched (and own) the entire series.

Yesterday was not a good day for me. First thing when I woke up, I discovered that my laptop fell to the floor and the screen now looks like you're looking through a shattered window at night. I now have to buy a new laptop because to fix it would cost more than buying a new one. At work my right leg started to bother me so I started to favor my left leg. I must have done something because my left was ( and still is) killing me. I went home and change for my physiotherapy. It was then I noticed that my right leg had swollen up to three times its normal size. The therapist wanted me to go see a doctor as soon as I was finished. I went to the Workmen's Comp. place and they sent me to the emergency room of a local hospital. I got an ultrasound to see if there was a blood clot. Luckily there is not. But I have to stay home and keep my legs elevated. I however have to walk the dog. And I need to use a cane because my left leg is still in such pain. I am doing this posting from my iPhone because I don't have a computer. :-( If I can walk a little I will buy a new laptop this afternoon.
