A couple of weeks ago, I happened to meet one of the managers/partners at... wait for it... The Big Gay Ice Cream Truck. As we were enjoying our vanilla cones topped with Toasted Curried Coconut and Wasabi Pea Dust - I can't make that stuff up - we started talking about Food, Wine, the restaurant scene in NYC, etc. She then extended an invitation to me to come check out her restaurant. A few weeks later, I finally made it in for dinner. It was a great evening. I kind of left the evening in her hands, and as she brought various plates to the table, she would take a few moments to explain what was placed in front of me. Then, a couple of minutes later, she would come back and ask what I thought about the food. What I really thought about the food.
I've been back a few times since, and even though I've only been there about five times, I already feel like a regular. She knows I'm
not a restaurant critic, however, she does know that I'm interested in Food on more than just the "this tastes good, this tastes bad" level. I really do appreciate food, and can tell when great care has been put into it's planning and preparation. -In fact, she told me that I was a "dream customer" last night.
