So...

There was one baking sheet that the roomie used last week, a week ago today, in fact, as she was cooking her dinner for her and her boyfriend/lover/???.  He washed it after dinner - and didn't really do a good job of doing so - it's still slicked in olive oil.  We've all just left it on the drainboard by the sink the past week just waiting to see when she will put it away - or at least attempt to put it away.  Well...  It's still there - along with the pot lids too.  And, of course, the Fresh Direct boxes which should have been put in the recycling pile three weeks ago are still here too.

The "funny" thing is, is that the rest of us do want to ask her to put her dishes away, however, we're all at the point where if we do ask her, there will undoubtedly be a bit of "tone" in that request.  So...  We all just decided to play the waiting game.  I suspect she'll be preparing dinner in a little bit, so... We'll see what happens.  If anything.

What is Fresh Direct?

I'm completely shifted out of our old house now, and everything that I kept is with me at my new place.  But I know that I will be unpacking boxes and trying to organize stuff for several weeks yet.

At the moment, I'm trying to figure out exactly which box might contain the remote for my second DVD/VHS player.  Is, a puzzlement !!   >:(

I have unplugged Ye Olde TIVO unit because ever since the dish was moved it has not been acquiring the program guide.  As it turns out the Direct TV guy I spoke to on the phone said it was most likely a power surge problem (even though I have a surge protector), so this was his fix and I'm trying it.

Company will be arriving any minute.  They will be here the next three nights so I can't promise to post.  I will, of course, be checking email.

If Fresh Direct won't accept your zipcode, use mine: 10024.

Very cool.  You don't even need to cook to live in NY.

I just had a memory flashback.  When I was younger, and all the game shows and talk shows used to be filmed in NY, wasn't 10019 that was the zip code you always used to request tickets?  Is that Rockefeller Plaza's zip code, or a clearing house address?

Ah...

One sopes topped with carnitas, and a healthy portion of pozole.  Muy delicioso!

The pozole was interesting, in a good way.  It was a chicken and pork one in a clear, chicken broth - along with the requisite giant kernels of hominy, the posole, which gives the stew it's name.  I'm normally used to seeing a red broth - red from chiles and tomatos - but this was good too.  I even thought I detected a bit of ginger in the broth - which is sort of unusual in Mexican cooking.

However, packed along in the bag was a small container of chopped white onion, a couple of lime wedges and some red pepper (ground chiles) so that I could customize the pozole to my liking.

All in all, a perfect meal for an unseasonably cool and drizzly summer evening.

10019 is the midtown area up to 57th Street; the other midtown zip is 10036.

I'm thrilled to see you weren't raped and plundered by the marauding Chelseas!  Or are they still busy trying to conquer Harlem?

The only warring community around here at the moment is the homeless: this morning one of them on the steps of Holy Trinity kept screaming about leg pains.  I was ready to walk over with a meat cleaver when he shut up.  Perhaps he was carted off?

Well, I did happen to notice a few pockets of those pesky Upper East Siders as well as some the Bridge and Tunnel Brigade while walking around.  I think they were starting to organize their forces.  Or they could have just been lost.

Well, the real battle with East Siders if over the "good schools".

As for Brad and your/his package... I didn't see him yesterday, and I believe he was heading out to Fire Island today.  But I'll see him on Tuesday and/or Wednesday.

It was just about sunrise, so I don't think the church was beginning services yet; they have to sweep all the homeless sleeping on broken down carton on the steps.  It looks like a scene from THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME.

If anyone cares, the 9 pm broadcast of COLD CASE is the repeat episode of the gay cops.

I just picked up the mail and what to my wandering eye should appear but our SACCO AND VANZETTI DVD's so dear! 3 of them, sent by my partner Peter before he left for Norway. (I'm so jealous!)

They look beautiful! We have been working on the cover art over the internet, and while it looked good, there's nothing like seeing it in person for the first time!
