I respect your opinions regarding The Wedding Singer, but I beg to differ.

I don't know from ego or opening numbers as I haven't seen the show (I never saw the film either because I think Adam Sandler is unfunny). I only know it was the best musical number on the Tony show broadcast.

IMO it was one of the few things that generated any EXCITEMENT through the "tube."  Unbelievably, you could UNDERSTAND EVERY WORD the singer was singing, which is saying something for rock songs. The choreography IMO was TERRIFIC! Having the dancers in those prom-type dresses doing front and side splits in the air and on the ground, the high knee lifts, the intricate dance patterns and the general ENERGY of the dancers was downright EXHILERATING! For this viewer, the number definitely perked up an otherwise sad-sack awards presentation...AND made me want to see the actual show.

A girlfriend my Aunt Fanny!

After watching the Tony awards last night I am convinced that there are no straight men on Broadway.

Or in bodybuilding!

Seconding what Donna said, I have seen the Wedding Singer (I'm kind of middling about it) but my two friends have not seen the show and they were just as excited about the number as Donna. They both said they would like to see the show and that the number played extremely well. I do think it's a great opening number. Unfortunately, IMHO, the show goes downhill from there. The first act is OK but the second act drags and we have the tedious Randy Granny scene where Rita Gardner breaks into a rap with Kevin Cahoon. The audience loved it. I winced.

...And, actually, in the hall, it was the one number that people really responded to - besides the Jersey Boys segment.  -At least as I was gauging the reaction of the people around me.  It was just a fun, purposely schlocky number.  Light entertainment.  -And then Threepenny Opera came on next...  Hmmm....

I received the OBC disks of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE and JERSEY BOYS today.....

AND the third season of THE DORIS DAY SHOW.  I watched the Young Love pilot featuring a scene with MR BK as David....who arrives at a party with paper plates, walks around with a glass full of carrot sticks, and reacts perfectly to a Bar Mitzvah Cake.  The EDITED version of the pilot is also in the collection as episode 26 of that season, with MR BK intact, and a laugh track.  Michael Burns and Meredith Baxter make a cute couple, but the show is NOTHING special.  Seems like by the books tv comedy....

Interesting to read all the different comments and reactions from DR's about the Tony Awards last night.

I guess the only thing we ALL agree on is how great Janis Paige looked.

Was that Bob Crewe up on the stage with the JERSEY BOYS crowd?  He dated June Kenney, you know, DR MBARNUM.

I guess my vote goes to Mr. Paul "I need Lasik" Rudd.

Not a fool, but Mr. Hal Holbrook's story kind of kept Miss Kristen Bell off camera for too long a period.  It struck me as ungentlemanly.

I still haven't gotten the Doris Day set yet.  I do remember them making my hair very curly.

I, too, like Virgil's, although I haven't eaten there in years.

Have you tried the barbequed meat salad?  Also I like their hushpuppies.

I don't know about you guys, but when he started telling the story, I got a little worried about him.  I was greatly relieved when he finally got somewhere, and that that somewhere was funny.

I can't come up with anything to say about barbeque except that Wise Bar-B-Q Potato Chips are the best (they're a local brand.)

Oh please, she didn't do anything.  Ok, I have to confess I just don't get what's so fabulous about Julia Roberts.  I like some of her work, but beyond that. I don't get it

Ditto.  I remember when the critics were all jumping all over themselves over her performance in STEEL MAGNOLIAS.  When I saw the movie, I just didn't see what all the hubbub was about.  Likewise, PRETTY WOMAN or ERIN BIRKINSTOCK (or whatever it's called.)

There's no there there for me.

That was Jonathan Hadary sitting beside Tyne Daly last night. I had to pause the DVR this afternoon to get a good look, but I barely recognized him.

Oh please, she didn't do anything.

Of course she did.

She walked out on stage and with charm and grace did her job as a presenter.  She was well-spoken and offered sincere praise to the Broadway community.

She did it knowing full-well there would be countless comments about her appearance, her dress, what she said and how she said it. She did it despite all the cattiness that ensues in "theater-related circles" when a Hollywood performer goes to Broadway...and despite all the negative reviews she got for trying to do a role and attempting to improve her craft.

She did it despite all the people who don't like anything she's ever done and will never like anything she'll ever do...few though they may be.

It took guts and she pulled it off extremely well!
