Title: HERMETICALLY SEALED

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were hermetically sealed and had the seal of approval, and now it is time for you to post until the hermetically sealed cows come home.

George, repeat your Brain report in this new thread.

Here it is...again:

Last night, we had our very first audience...TAO's final dress rehearsal is always a $5 (or more) donation performance and we had about a third of the house filled!  The first act went a little shorter than Wednesday's performance without an audience!  The second act went a little bit longer...people weren't picking up the pace as they had been.  The audience really seemed to enjoy it and there were only a couple of scene change goobers.  Otherwise, we had a pretty good first audience show!

The mark was someone that people knew...he does do theater, but didn't try to play it up.  He was a good sport and it was pretty funny.  The whole scene got some very good laughs. :)

DR George, glad to hear your preview was great.  Our performance of Rent went well on stage after 3 days off.  We. of course, lost about 12 people at the intermission, but I'm reminded that people walked out daily during its run in NYC.

Good morning, all! I was up at 7:30 and the laundry was in the laundromat by 8:15. I will spend the better part of the day editign the final OZ number, and figuring out where to have dinner tonight. I'm seeing the Manhattan School of Music production of Mozart's Nozze di Figaro with Chris and I thought we'd have dinner somewhere between 90th and 115th Street. My favorite seafood place, Docks, has closed so I need to do some research this morning.

I need a haircut. Badly.

DR George, how's the band?

DR vixmom, I'm sorry to hear the dnner service was tres lou-say! The vixter deserves the best.

BK,

Don't you love it when somebody "gets" your book.

A person just posted this on FB:

" Joanne Capella  is almost finished reading Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.  Your mind works in mysterious ways, Mr. Druxman. This must be one of the strangestest books I've ever read, funny, but strange."

 :)

I responded by assuring her that my wife and son think that I am a very starange person.

I loved "Fringe" last night...Walter telling a story to Olivia's niece was a real hoot.

And what is a continued joy for me is that the production team seems totally obsessed these days with the Bricusse score to "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory".  Last night, Walter sang one of the songs.

Same team does "Lost" and has used tracks from "Wonka" in previews.

AND there is a TV ad that also uses music from "Wonka"....I keep wondering what's up...is something MAJOR about to happen?

I needed to find my next commute-read book, so on Wednesday night, I closed my eyes and reached into my pile of unread books and pulled out Neil Gaiman's AMERICAN GODS.  I started into it yesterday morning and, thus far, I'm very intrigued by it and enjoying it a lot.

Strangely enough, I discovered yesterday that a writer for Wired magazine, Jeff Howe (http://crowdsourcing.typepad.com/cs/), has instituted a sort of bookclub kind of thing through Twitter and that the book to be read is none other than AMERICAN GODS.  Calling it "1 Book, 1 Twitter" (or #1b1t in Twitter-speak), this is a a take-off on the "One Book, One City" programs that happened in Seattle, Chicago and other cities during the past 10 years (and been reported here from time to time.)

It will be interesting having this wide of a shared experience with this many people reading the same book.  But I also think it was a wonderful bit of some kind of global consciousness that guided my hand in selecting that book from my library without having any knowledge that #1b1t was going on.

DR John G, I am not happy that I name keeps turning up with this turkey. I think everyone currently on board feels the need to mention me as a favor to me, but I'd have preferred being unmentioned since I suspect what I hear will neither amuse me no make me very happy. When this recording of LIFE BEGINS . . . comes out, I have the feeling I will be spilling all I know and hate about what was dome to me, my team, and the score. I see the current Amazon.com listing omits the cut song "I Knew Him When." I wonder how the Gershwins let that happen?

Just got the new "West Side Story" from the library. Why do revival casts always have to sound slower than the original? I only got through the "Jet Song," but I feel as if every singer were more concerned with his diction than pace or in keeping it lively.

I felt the same way about that JAY complete Sweet Charity.  Some wag on RATM averred that all tempi on LP's were too fast as they needed to cram stuff in to the playing time on each side.

Well... There is a common thread between the West Side Story revival OCR and the A Chorus Line revival OCR.  -And both recordings were recorded while both shows were still essentially in previews.  Both shows were/are now faster.  Alas, neither revival ended up "correct" - and I played for ACL.

I watched last night's THE MENTALIST while I ate lunch. It was a wonderful episode, filled with all the kinds of Patrick Jane quirks that I like without him crossing the line into obnoxiousness. Malcolm McDowall was creepy and good as Jane's adversary. Made it sound like he was either going to turn out to be Red John or be connected with him in some way.

I really think this is one of the best episodes they've done this year.

DR George, glad to hear your preview was great.  Our performance of Rent went well on stage after 3 days off.  We. of course, lost about 12 people at the intermission, but I'm reminded that people walked out daily during its run in NYC.

Good news from Matthew & George :)

Then I watched today's work project DVD: SING A SONG OF SEX. Oh, my, I'm beginning to catch on that Oshima's oeuvre is not my cup of tea. This is another movie I found rather trying to sit through. I got his satiric indictment of 1967 teen youth being consumed by thoughts of sex rather than joining in on the social protests and involvement in world affairs, but it's really heavy handed with all of the psychosexual focus that would come to fruition with IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES.

These four teen boys have this sex song that has at least ten verses, and they sing it over and over throughout the movie in their flat, unlyrical singing voices. It REALLY got to be tedious.

And the transfer once again is not all that pleasant to look at.

I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing of interest, of course, but Luke, Reid, and Noah were featured in the previews for next week since it deals with Noah's surgery and the aftermath. Very dramatic. Hopefully, they'll be on more than once next week with this story.

I still had the GLEE DVD set out, so I put in the disc that had "Sectionals" on it which always is SUCH an upbeat, bracing episode. I needed something fun and tuneful and colorful after that awful work DVD I watched this afternoon.

When I reviewed this set in late December, I did watch all of the bonus features for the review, but I wanted to rewatch some of them with the producers and FOX network executives talking about the genesis of the show. Really enjoyed seeing two of those bonus features again, neither of which were nearly long enough to satisfy one's curiosity about the pitch for the show, the casting, and its pickup by the network.

BTW, did you know that GLEE is now the highest rated scripted series for the age 18-49 group?

I've now got 14 cartons to ship to Miami University. I think I'll spend some time tomorrow morning inventorying the cartons and taping them up to go. I'll try to ship them on Tuesday.

Tonight is the second night of the year when the veil between the physical world and the spirit world is at its thinnest.

Communication can be sought - there is a small Beltane (Spring) seance tonight at the World of Wisdom....perhaps we can communicate with some of our friends in the spirit world.

Time will tell.  We begin about 7:30 p.m.

We began setting up our new phones today.  After Keith got the base line set up I went to plug in my head set to test the phone.  There isn't an outlet for the head set.  I called Panasonic to see if it might be Bluetooth computable, nope.  I then asked what phone/phones she suggested.  She gave me wrong info so I called back.  After a total of 3 calls using my new, hand held phone my shoulder hurts more than it has in a month.  Even typing hurts.

I'm going to go do stretches & see if they help.  If I return later it may be brief.

Then I watched last night's 30 ROCK. I do believe this will be another show I'll be dropping at the end of the season. I think I only stayed with it this long this season because Cheyenne Jackson is a recurring guest star on the show. If his new sitcom gets picked up by ABC, he won't be available to be on 30 ROCK next season so I'll be able to drop it.

Vixdad was reading that book a couple of years ago while we were vacationing in Canada, he put it down for a while and I picked it up and glanced through it and within a few moments he had lost his book He and I spent teh next several days competing
to read it .  Now that you mention that you are reading it I am moved to get it off the shelf and read it again

I have walked back with Chris from the Manhattan School of Music. I had some quibbles with a few directorial decisions that made no sense to me at all, but I thought it was a lovely production of one of the really great operas. The cast and orchestra were wonderful, the ensemble was really solid, and the performance got a lot of laughs because the libretto is jampacked with funny lines and funnier business, Three and a half hours of Mozart flies by because there is so much genius shooting sparks in every direction, from voice to action to orchestra, while three and a half hours of Wagner seems to me three and a half centuries, with brief moments of genius and a helluva lot of masturbation I never want to watch.

Before the opry we had a lovely dinner at Popovers; Chris had a spinach and mushroom salad and I had a delicious portion of salmon with mashed sweet potatoes and green beans. We walked up to the school, got the tickets and saw the performancw. At the first intermission we saw Ron Raines and Charlotte, my goddaughter, We also talked to Howard Kissel, whom I hadn't seen since Ron and Dona's anniversary two years ago. At the second intermission Ron told us he was leaving, since he and Charlotte had seen the performance on Wednesday night, so Chris and I moved up to his and Charlotte's front row balcony seats for the third and fourth acts. I think Charlotte left after the first act.

DR JRand, your comment about the spirit world tonight was interesting: oin the way uptown we walked past my first apartment on West 94th Street, and I was telling Chris about the terrifying ghost that haunted the place every night, and he was telling me about the ghost in his apartment that makes the sound of a broom sweeping and how it freaks him out. That's got me thinking about the dog barking above me and now I'm wondering if he might be rattled by a ghost in this building. There are at least two or three, one of them being the man who hanged himself in the apartment below mine around 1982.

Good Evening!

Well... After getting stuck on a D train for about 20 minutes due to a "signal problem" while sitting next to two of the shallowest girls - well, maybe "young women" - I have ever had the displeasure of eavesdropping on... Well... I'm glad I had a nice dinner, and since they were at the bottom of the tub, the scooper at Baskin-Robbins gave me an extra big single scoop of their Watermelon Ice.  :)

But, seriously, those two girls... Totes losers!

Let's see, if the Brain started on time, then they should be in the finale or doing bows right about now.  Maybe they're even done.

I'm looking forward to seeing the show, although I hope they change the poster or listing before we get there - right now it says "by Bruce Kimmel" which, of course, is not accurate, since David Wechter wrote it with me.  And since he'll be there...

And I hope there's a cool restaurant near the theater so we can all go out after.
