I had a lovelier than lovely lunch with my friend Korliss and her husband Jerry Grossman, first cellist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the job Victor Herbert held when he moved to America in 1888.

I've sent off the last, problematic essay to New World Records, and I plan to take several days off and do nothing  but other work.

Lot's of high winds today.  I've got a LOT of picking up to do outside with the small branches that are all over the front and back yard.

The dogs are feeling really frisky.  They were running around the back yard but when I went and got my camera, they looked at me and stopped all the cute things they were doing.

I was struck by a rather odd fact whilst watching 1959's THE HANGMAN today:  our very own MBarnum bears a rather startling resemblance to the young (and blonde) Jack Lord.

RE: AS GOOD AS IT GETS

The one performance in the film that is always overlooked is Shirley Knight.

I thought she was terrific as Helen Hunt's mother.

I think Shirley Knight has always been an under-rated actress; all the way back to DARK AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS.

All i know is, in LAW & ORDER she's the female Robert Foxworth; if one of them is in the episode, he or she is the killer.

DR TCB, I understand there is a British magazine ATTITUDE which has this month both a cover and centerspread of Cheyenne Jackson, and you might want to look for a copy.

You mean this old thing?

"Downtown Abbey" fans: Here's a short but amusing clip of an upcoming encounter between  Shirley MacLaine and Maggie Smith:

It doesn't play for me.

I can't believe how fast the weather can change. It was so hot last week. Record temps. And so nice and sunny. And now the next 3 days are supposed to be so cool and rainy. And then thurs-sun are supposed to be hot and sunny again.  It's not so much the rain i find odd. It's how cool it is supposed to get. To go from 40C to 16C that is crazy (100+F = 60F).

We didn't get as hot but we did get colder.  Reading all the bad weather everyone is having I suppose I shouldn't complain about 60 degrees since it isn't raining.  We are way below the average temps without breaking any records.

Us too.  We were in the high 50's, low 60's today, and we are supposed to be cooler tomorrow.

Monday morning greetings!  Today I have to pick up some prescriptions for my Mother and deliver them to her, work out at the Y, and shop for tonight's dinner with DN Lauren.
Aw the life of a retiree!   They say they don't know what they are going to do with themselves when they retire and when they do, you have to book an appointment to see them!  Thelma and Glenda are both the same way. :)

Hey!  Don't pick on us retirees.  I have two lunches and a P.T appointment scheduled fo this week.

Well, this is interesting...if it actually happens:  With "Thin Man" Postponed, Into the Woods Film May Be Next Project for Rob Marshall.

Quote
As previously reported, Into the Woods book writer James Lapine is currently at work on the screenplay, which will likely feature some new songs by Stephen Sondheim. Disney is behind the project.

Oh yeah, the one thing that INTO THE WOODS definately needs is more songs!

DR Jennifer, logic and my family aren't very well acquainted.  I was surprised that they hadn't picked a boys name, too.   I'm even more surprised Sam hasn't posted anything on FB.  Her friends are starting to bug her.  I hope people don't start thinking she had complications or something is wrong with the baby.  He's perfect....I think I've heard that phrase about 157 times and I've only talked to her once, lol

DR Jennifer, who is your favorite on Next Food Network star?   I have a few I like.  Was sort of sad to see the person who went home last night.  I won't tell you so I don't spoil it for you

DR Danise we have also been watching FALLING SKIES.  We have last episode to watch tonight.

Lord how I miss Babylon 5.  It breaks my heart to think that 3 of that cast are now gone.

We never watched so I only know of one cast member that is gone.  Our friend directed 12 episodes.  That was before we became friends or we would have watched.

A friend of mine (sort of) who now lives in Texas has posted this quote from a friend of his talking about her love of Texas and the beauty of Baniff in Canada.

"I think God loves Texas, but He lives in Banff."

Thank you.  I will have to check it out next time I'm in a Barnes and Noble store.  I found a video which compared the Nook to the Simple Touch.  I would like to have seen the difference between the Simple Touch and the Nook Color.

I was surprised that they hadn't picked a boys name, too.

I admit we had the same issue for Craig.  We had a girls name picked out but fluctuated between three different name combinations for Craig.  The hospital gave Keith special permission to visit during an off time so we could get a sitter for Bryan and have quiet time to make our final decision.  Once we had peace and quiet it wasn't very difficult.
