DISSERTATION ON THE STATE OF NUTMEATS
« on: June 21, 2005, 10:16:33 PM »

Well, you've read the notes, you've had your dissertation, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently busy choosing their favorite nutmeats.

I fell asleep while I was typing NARCOLEPSY!

I shall try to post from JMK's before I'm on my way to the airport.  And then, I shall look forward to all your lovely postings when I arrive back at the home environment.

I love cashews!  They are my favorite nutmeats.  I especially love cashews in fudge!!  And my favorite kind of pizza...yes, pizza...is pepperoni, pineapple, cashews and extra cheese on a thin crust.  It's the absolute best pizza, in my humble opinion (IMHO, in Internet lingo).  And that's exactly what I had for dinner tonight!  It was left over from Saturday, but still good.  Of course, refrigerated, left-over pizza is never as good as fresh from the restaurant, but it was good enough. :)

I also really like hazelnuts (I've never called them "filberts"), walnuts, peanuts, almonds, pecans (especially in pie).

Great photos, George!  I bow to your superior photo skills.

Also, going back to last night's posts: Having met the recently-retired sofa mover, Mr. Blanchard, last evening; I can attest to the fact that he is indeed a very nice looking man.  However, he cannot hold a candle, in either looks or personality, to our very own Mr. Barnum.

Great photos, George!  I bow to your superior photo skills.

Thanks, TCB, but my skills as a photographer had nothing to do with the quality of the photos, it's the idiot-proofness of the camera.  That's what made the pictures so good! ;D

Well, I hate to do this, but I must go to sleep.  I'd like to get to work a little earlier in the morning than usual, so I'm going to go to bed now.  Good night all!  And it was great to spend two evenings with our very own BK!!

BK, razor clams are basically rubbery fried clams, and the only way to serve them is to pound the Hell out of 'em with a meat tenderizer.  I would assume that Jake's would know how to prepare razor clams, because all the food I have ever had there has been wonderful.  Razor clams are actually better when used in chowder, if only bacause you can dislocate your shoulder tenderizing those suckers.

Nutmeats:  Hmmm, nope, won't go there  My favorites are cashews and peanuts, but the latter has to be Planter's Cocktail Peanuts.

Macadamia nuts - the great Australian nut. No! they're not native to Hawaii.

Cashews and peanuts and hazelnuts (with chocolate).

"Peanuts" was of course sung by Little Joe and the Thrillers in 1957 and by the Nutty Squirrels in 1960.(as their follow up to Uh! Oh!),  That information is for DR Rodzinski..

Tommy Roe sang Hooray for Hazel later in the sixties. (66).  That's as nutty as I can get at the moment.

Cashews!

And yesterday's topic of the day mentioned most of my favorite Kerr and A. Hepburn films...The Nun's Story and Breakfast at Tiffany's IF I had to choose a favorite for Audrey.

All of the Kerr choices were cherce, but I shall also add BONJOUR TRISTESSE, a lovely performance by Kerr to compliment the one by Jean Seberg.

What great photos!  Thanks!  I like the Hawaiian shirts, and I also like DRJED's nice b/w shirt as well.

DR MATTH -you are correct about NBC's Saturday Night at the Movies.  And I was off by TWO YEARS on its debut - it was October, 1961, and the first film was - as you mentioned - HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE!

Good morning, all!   DRs George and MBarnum, thank you for all the photos!  There were some really terrific ones.  I have to say I don't think DRJed looks like his avatar, but he reminds me so much of my younger brother Randy.

I got up this morning and realized that with the schedule I'm currently on I had no idea of what today is.  I lay there thinking, is it Saturday?  Oy!  Now that I'm certain it's Thursday, I have my plans settled:  recording office, BABES IN TOYLAND proofing and filing, phone calls to the Library of Congress, then a jeweler for a new watchband.

TOD:
ice cream:  butter pecan or pistachio
  pie:  pecan
  munching: cashews, Brazil nuts
  peanuts?  only for peanut butter

I don't like nuts (except for peanuts) by themselves. I can enjoy most other nuts if they are made with food or in deserts like ice cream or fudge. I am not a walnut fan. I think they have a bitter taste.

I was wholly obsessed with Charles Schulz's Peanuts when I was a youngen.  I collected everything I could get my hands on--the books, coloring books, pins, Avon products, toys, etc.  I also had a healthy collection of magazines that had stories on the Peanuts Phenomenon.  With those, unfortunately, someone suggested to me that I cut out the pictures and articles and paste them into a scrapbook, which I did with vigor (and when vigor gets to workin' on cutting up magazine articles, there's no stopping him.)

I still have a good deal of the collection stored in the attic at the House of Mom, though the last time I looked, the paperbacks were starting to dinge and the felt pieces of the Charlie Brown pajama bag had deteriorated into powder.  The scrapbook also still exists, but a lot of the scraps have come loose.  The one thing that's missing is the Talking Peanuts Bus, which, of course, is nowadays the Holy Grail of Peanuts toys among collectors.

Cashews are my favorite.  I could eat them by the pound if given the chance.
Almonds and hazlenuts next.
I love Pine Nuts in slad.

I don't like  any nuts in fudge-- they take up too much precious space that can be used for... fudge.  Same with ice cream, same with brownies and cookies.  They're OK, but I'd rather just have the fudge, ice cream, brownie, cookie, etc. without nuts

I like various nutmeats in salad and Chinese food.

It still sounds like Portland is the place to be.  With the heat, Phoenix was definitely NOT the place to be yesterday.
I must try to think COOL today.
Kisses to all.

Oh.

BK meant nuts as in nuts that one eats.

I like Planter's salty roasted peanuts and cashews in the can.
I like peanuts in the shell, dark roasted.
Cashews and Macadamia nuts.
I like roasted chestnuts.
I like walnuts, but mostly as an ingredient.  Likewise for almonds.

Today I am taking my 10-year-old buddy to the science museum. Perhaps I'll have some fascinating photos to share tonight.

I like nuts -- particularly almonds and macadamias.

If DR Sandra logs on today, she will explain to you that not everything we call nuts are nuts. This from the "Plants in Society" class from a few years ago.

Now that I'm certain it's Thursday, I have my plans settled

;D LOL, DR elmore.  I'm having the same problem today, because I was asked to work 9-6, instead of my usual 12-9 Wednesday schedule.  After today, though, I'm away from here until next Wednesday to take off Friday for Chicago for the American Library Association annual conference.

TOD - Cashews and almonds are my favorites to eat by themselves.  I cook a lot with pecans, chopped in brownies and waffles.  In fact, I have great disdain for restaurants who consider a "pecan waffle" a plain one with a few pecans sprinkled on top.  Mine have lots of coarsely chopped pecans baked in the batter.  Yum!

I never met a nutmeat that I didn't like! But cashews are likely my favorites!

Love getting those cans of fancy mixed nuts (the ones with very few peanuts).

And I love nuts in everything..salads, fudge, cookies, everything.

As for Nutmeats:

Almonds!  Raw, Roasted, Blanched, Slivered, etc...  I've grown particular fond of some of the Spanish varieties that have been making their way into the American markets lately - marcona and largueta.

Cashews, Pistachios (who knew they did not naturally come in Red?!??  - or do they?), Pecans (especially sugar or honey glazed, sometimes with a kick of cayenne too).

Walnuts are good, but they must be fresh.  It's amazing how fast they can go rancid.

Macadamia nuts.

Butter Almond Ice Cream
Marzipan in any form
Cashew Chicken
Almond Chicken
Baklava - both with Walnuts and with Pistachios(!) (Lebanese variation)
Smokehouse Almonds
Chocolate Covered Macadamia Nuts
Turtles - Nuts, Caramel and Chocolate - Usually Pecans, but also with cashews and almonds and macadamias (with different names at times).  *There's a candy store in Boston that only sell Turtles in all their delicious variations.
Pignoli Cookies (Pine nuts)

...And I think that's enough for now.  I still need to hop in the shower before heading downtown, so...
