WIKIPEDIA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oui_(magazine)) reports:
On the somewhat more humorous side, Oui also published the essay "The 3 Most Important Things in Life" by Harlan Ellison in its November 1978 issue. The three things in question were sex, violence and labor relations, each illustrated by anecdotes from Ellison's life. The sex anecdote involved a less-than-successful assignation with a young woman; the violence anecdote was about witnessing a murder in a movie theatre during a screening of Save the Tiger; and the labor relations anecdote was Ellison's version of the story of his being fired after only one morning at The Walt Disney Company for jokingly suggesting making a pornographic cartoon using the primary Disney characters.

Thanks for posting that, DR Sigerson. I was a Harlan Ellision fan when I was in Jr. High and H.S.
I met him when I was in college...hung out with him at our student lunch place wihtout realizing who he was. (I did volunteer work with Cinematic Arts, the group which programmed the films on campus. By doing this, I could go to any movie they showed for free!) I had a stack of "Boy and His Dog" posters that I was distributing. He noticed the posters as we were sitting there, struck up a conversation and was unusually interested in my opinion of the film.
Then when I went to one of my film classes and he was the guest speaker, I was a bit embarrassed that I hadn't known who he was. He poked fun at things I'd said a few times during his talk, and afterwards said he hoped I didn't mind.
He's an interesting guy.
Years later, I went to one of his book signings and saw him tear up a kid's copy of one of his books because he didn't like the publishers of that edition. The kid was young and didn't realize that H.E. was pulling a stunt. This was obviously one of the kid's favorite books and he looked embarrased that he had this "undesirable" edition and his feelings were hurt.
When I mentioned this to H.E. later, he said that people expected him to do outrageous things and he didn't want to disappoint them.
I became less of a fan after that...

Last night on TCM, I saw the "coming attractions" trailer for A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE. The last few seconds showed some credits and then at the bottom there were the words Released by 20th Century-Fox.
STREETCAR was a Warner Bros. film - how did Fox get involved with it? IMDB says only that Fox distributes the film for cable TV and there was a CBS/Fox Video version.
Where did this trailer come from? It mentions that the film won 5 Academy Awards so it was put together some time after the original release. I am confused.

Hello, my name is TCB, and I am a heathen. Yes, I admit it, but I know very little about art - this type of art. Growing up, I thought art museums were places designed by the Marquis de Sade to punish bad little children. However, I must say I did like that Dali painting of THE LAST SUPPER. I actually bought a Dai print at an art auction one time, but they told me it was one of his lesser known works (probably because all of the body parts are there and in the right places).
I mean, theater is art, music is art, and body painting is, well, heaven! So, since I know nothing about the subject, I will sit back and observe what examples of art you all love. Perhaps I will learn something.

You're not the only one.
Well, der B and I didn't make a special trip - we were in town and made a point of heading over. It was while visiting the Art Institute of Chicago that I was introduced to the works of Gustave Caillebotte (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustave_Caillebotte), whose Paris Street, Rainy Day is part of their permanent collection, and who was being represented by a show of his work that had been brought in from arround the world. His painting Les raboteurs de parquet (The Floor-Scrapers) (http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/caillebotte/raboteurs/) in particular made an interesting impression on me.
(Whistles quietly while everyone else figures out why.)

While on a business trip to Chicago about ten years ago, I made it a point to see La Grande Jatte. Unfortunately, I had to depend on a taxi driver who not only had no idea where the Art Institute of Chicago was located, but was also afraid of driving during a thunderstorm. By the time he finally got me there, my window of opportunity had shrunk to the point (point, get it?) where I only had about only a half hour to take in the painting. Even so, I was glad to have seen it.
-
This now begs the question - how many of us have seen the original painting La Grande Jatte? Not a reproduction, the real thing?
We've got Singdaw, Dan (the Man), myself and der Brucer (of course). That's four, so far.

I've also seen Seurat's The Models, (http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/seurat/models/) the original version, which hangs in the main hall at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. This is the one where three models are posing in front of - you guessed it - La Grande Jatte.
But that doesn't count as the original LGJ.

And now, I must be off to work.

I am thrilled with one of the 3 (dustin and kandace). And i totally agree with you about charla and mirna and eric and danielle. Although i would be happier if they won then mirna.
I am worried about the good edit mirna got last night. And the way they talk about them being the underdogs. No matter how they try to sell those two, i can't believe that anybody would want them to win.
I was a bit surprised by the preview that showed the blondes having a big fight. But i'm guessing it's misdirection. So it makes me think they have a good chance to win. I really think it will come down to the blondes vs charla/mirna.
I will be really unhappy if the blondes do not win.
Btw, last week's ending as i suspected was total crap. D&O were 1 1/2 hours behind eric/danielle (not the few minutes the editing suggested).
And i disagree with DR Jrand about telling eric about the yield. I'm sure mirna or oswald filled them in. But eric was so mad, i think the beauties confessed to most of it. PLUS it was totally danny/oswald's idea to get paid for the yield. If the blondes had suggested it then i think you might be right. But danny/oswald suggested it. And they only let the blondes choose so they wouldn't have to be the bad guys.
I really liked danny/oswald but if you finish last twice you deserve to go.

The funny thing about THE LIST OF ADRIAN MESSENGER is that Kirk Douglas' face resists that masquerade make-up. I could see through each of his disguises because his face is just too unusual.
Like bk, I liked the film a lot as a kid, but when I saw it decades later, the mystery element didn't hold up at all, and all the disguises were just trick stuff to distract the viewer from the lame script.

I really liked danny/oswald but if you finish last twice you deserve to go.
If I have anything against the Blondies, it's the half truth they told Eric and Danielle about the deal they made with Danny and Oswald about the Yield. They told E & D that D & O were the first to approach the offer (true), but they then said that the deal was for D & O not to Yield the Blondies when the truth was that they themselves specified E & D. Also, if Mirna can be believed, during the rest period at the pit stop after the Blondies first Yielded E & D, they were telling everyone that they were once Yielded during Season 10, which never happened. (You can see Mirna talk about this in the extra clips for that episode on the CBS.com site.) It does appear that the Blondies can be outright deceitful at times.
I'm curious about how soon Danny and Oswald came in behind Mirna and Schmirna. It looked like they did incredibly well catching up after being so far behind, but it could be, like you said, editing.
It's all in the editing...

Hi all! I might have good news today. The doctors came in and found Mom to be quite alert. They mentioned that she might (Mind you might) be allowed to go home. Not today but soon.
I told them what the doctor said at the hospital--that she only had 3 days tops but this doctor said that might not be so. She said that others have what Mom has and have lived for a year or more.
What I'm planning on doing is bringing her walker so she can prove that she can get around so that she can prove she can go home.
Needless to say, my hopes are going up and down. I don't know what to believe or what to really think.
I had to stop there because the phone rang and then Mom had some people come to check her.

Of those I know personally, my favorite is Jean Weinbaum. Not only is he a close personal friend, but I really like his work. I am fortunate to have his large watercolor, La Mer, in my living room. It's one of his best works--both in my opinion and his. (Another one of his watercolors, War and Peace, was snatched up by a gallery owner and collector before I had a chance to purchase it. But I do love La Mer.) Jean sends little baby watercolors to me from time to time as gifts, which would always get a reaction from my insurance agent when I would add them to my scheduled possessions as "gift from the artist." Jean is a very sweet man.
As for artists I don't know, Turner is one of my favorites. I never cease to be amazed at his work. I love to take in the Turners at the Tate--the Tate Museum in London, that is.
Oh, back to artists I know. If anyone likes realistic figure drawing, you MUST SEE Rob Liberace's work. I took a drawing class from him some years ago. GAWD, he's good!! Friends tell me his work is quite hot these days. I almost bought one of his works some years ago--I'm sure I couldn't afford it now. Lovely, lovely work. And he does it sooo easily. In class, he'd say, "Here, just do this," and in one or two lines convey so much. Well, it just doesn't happen that way when I do it!
I'm not a big fan of impressionism. I've always enjoyed contemporary art, but I also have a huge respect for good realism.
-
I have an invitation to visit an old friend who is a big art collector. I haven't seen his collection in many years. I have no doubt he'll be filling me in on today's art scene--he keeps up, I don't. I'll probably soon have a few new favorites.
-
That's interesting, DR Jeanne!
In the category of artists known personally, I'd have to include Karen Horn. She paints in watercolor, but has developed this "overdubbing" technique that renders an almost photographic-like quality. Pictures don't really do them justice, but here's a sample:

I love all kinds of art.
Because of my passion for movies, I have a great fondness for exquisite poster art.
One of my favorites is Amsel's for "Death on the Nile."
I regret when I threw away my twenty year plus collection of TV Guides that I didn't pull the issues with Amsel covers.

I knew a Karen Horn from my days on rec.arts.theatre.musicals. She lives in San Diego, CA. Any chance she is the same?

Surprise! I'm back from my errands and have a bit of time to putter and get ready for the tea party that we're having while we watch The Queen. My favorite bakery let me down, fancy-cookie-wise, so I made a spontaneous stop at Collette's Custom Cakes and bought a box of beautiful cookies.
DH Richard is having lunch with his mother and then will pick up my mom and aunt. The matinee will probably start about 2pm.
-
DR Dan (the Man) - I believe the artist Karen Horn lives in Northern CA, and so far as I'm aware doesn't have any particular interest in musicals.

I cannot leave this discussion without mentioning my old friend (now deceased), Lou Goodman. Lou was an assemblagist from the old Barney's Beanery days in LA, where many artists hung out. Assemblage isn't my favorite form of art--I just loved Lou. He used to tell me stories of growing up a Jew in Czarist Russia and having to step off the sidewalk when non-Jews passed. He also used to send me letters addressed, "My darling Jenka." Those letters were lost when my house was broken into many years ago. I was nineteen and impressionable; he was a sort of father or uncle figure. I have several of his works, which few people but me would appreciate.

THE AMAZING RACE SPOILERS
*
*
*
If I have anything against the Blondies, it's the half truth they told Eric and Danielle about the deal they made with Danny and Oswald about the Yield. They told E & D that D & O were the first to approach the offer (true), but they then said that the deal was for D & O not to Yield the Blondies when the truth was that they themselves specified E & D.
I've seen a lot of people annoyed by this, but not me. They did not say that danny and oswald chose the people. They said that danny and oswald approached them to give them money not to yield them. The blondes did not have to tell this to eric. Plus he was a freakin lunatic. IF they had told him he probably would have chased after them.
I'm sure eric found out the rest. Plus parts could have been edited out. I think the blondes told enough of the story. They didn't give specifics. But they did not outright lie and say something that was not true.
I don't know since i have not seen this. It doesn't appear to me that they are deceiftful. They are competitive. And they don't get overly friendly with others. But i can't see them telling people something that was not true (especially something that can be easily verified). I don't really remember the exact thing in TAR 10. But i know that the lyns were threatening to yield the blondes. Maybe that was what they told the others.
I'm curious about how soon Danny and Oswald came in behind Mirna and Schmirna. It looked like they did incredibly well catching up after being so far behind, but it could be, like you said, editing.
It's all in the editing...
I didn't comment on this editing, i commented on last week and the week before. IT's pretty obvious in this editing that danny and oswald did not finish too far behind. I believe they showed charla and oswald both at the helicopter field together. Now if they showed that when they really far behind, that would be even more deceitful than the fake close endings we got for the last two weeks.

This now begs the question - how many of us have seen the original painting La Grande Jatte? Not a reproduction, the real thing?
We've got Singdaw, Dan (the Man), myself and der Brucer (of course). That's four, so far.
I think I'm number five...if I counted correctly. ::) During my last year at Western Washington University (1989), the Concert Choir was invited to perform at the National Music Educator's Association conference in Indiana. When that was finished, we drove from Indiana up to Chicago (stopping along the way for concerts at some high schools) and we had half a day to ourselves in Chicago. Several of us went to the Art Institute of Chicago and I stood there at the painting for a couple of hours. One of the guys in our group actually took a picture of me standing in front of the actual painting, but he never made me a copy! Damn him! Damn him to hell!! But I was there (a Pacific Overtures reference ;)).

I got a huge box of CDs from the Kritzerland warehouse today. Thanks, BK, I think you even threw in a couple we didn't order, but that's just fine. I dropped your cheque in a mailbox on the streets of downtown Cincinnati Saturday afternoon. I don't think it had any weekend pick-ups, so it was probably collected today, which means you oughta get it sometime before the end of the week.

That's cautiously optimistic news, Danise!!

Maybe the visit from Bear did the trick and will give her a little more time with you.

Wow---my job just ended suddenly and I have hte rest of the day free! Yay!
But---my DH's car was not working today so he had to drive me ot work and now has my car. Boo!
But he happened to go over to the new house to help pour footings for the barn so he's only 3 miles away and can pick me back up. Yay again!

Thoroughly shocked by Brantley's review of LEGALLY BLONDE. I had felt sure that this would be one of those exceptions, a show that's well-regarded despite a disappointing score. And the Times proofers couldn't even spell the name of the (I thought) wonderfully gifted bookwriter of Legally Blonde, the inspired Heather Hach (they spelled it Hatch in the print edition, at least). Ms. Hach has I think the potential to be a great force in musical comedy as a bookwriter, assuming the work was basically hers and not the director's, but I suspect after that treatment from the Ny Times, she may pick herself up and go back to Hollywood. That would be theater's loss, IMHO. Best book of a new musical I've seen since SPELLING BEE, but I guess that's not the consensus.
-
I did like that Dali painting of THE LAST SUPPER. I actually bought a Dai print at an art auction one time, but they told me it was one of his lesser known works
The original has a very prominent position in our National Museum of Art.

Nope. She was on TAD (The Ambassador's Daughter on TCM--in which, I might add, she proved a trooper. If I were she, I would have been playing my scenes in that movie with a glum expression on my face, counting the number of lines that Olivia Dehavilland had while I was sitting there doing nothing but waiting for the next break.)

Hi everyone. I wanted to post sooner but this is a busy place. Everytime I turned the computer on someone walks in or the phone is ringing or something else.
Well, this it the current news.
Now that the doctor had the time to go over the results she said that it is very possible that Mom could pass at any moment but it could be a week or even a month. They have no way of knowing.
Having said that she also said that they wouldn't hide it from her that she is dying because they feel she should know. They won't come right out and tell her but if she asked, they would tell her.
I feel that if anyone should tell her, it should be me.
The doctor agreed to keep the "secret" until Friday but she said if nothing happened a decision would have to be made as to if Mom want's to stay at the Hospice House or go home.
If she chose to go home, an army of nurses would have to go with us. She does need someone there 24 hours and a hospital bed, etc, etc.
I felt like my back was up againist the wall so I broke the news to Mom in another little half truth. I told her that we were waiting for the tests to come back but that it didn't look good. I wanted her to understand that it is possible that she's dying. I just didn't say it was for sure. I said the test would be back around Friday.
I told her the choices she had if the tests came back bad--to stay here or go home with all of the equipment and nurses and she suprised me and said she would rather stay where she was at.
I feel somewhat of a relief that she knows something. I didn't like to lie to her and to keep holding out the hope that she would go home. I guess it really was up to her to decide.
She took the news pretty good. I was the one who was crying as I was telling her.
She said she thought something was wrong. At least this way I was able to ask her if there was anything she wanted or needed to do or say or have done what could I do.
So at this point, we'll just take it one day at time until Friday comes. It's going to be hard if I do have to tell her the whole truth but if I do, at least she is somewhat prepared for it.
In the mean time, I'm going to try to start to go back to work for a least a half a day. My wonderful boss said I could come in at seven and leave whenever I needed to. If I stay until 3:30, I'll get my eight hours in, leave before the traffic gets bad, go home, feed the dogs, get a shower or whatever needs to be done, get my work clothes for the next day and go stay with Mom in the evenings.
Right now, that's the best I can do.
-
Fred, I haven't seen the show yet, but I was also surprised at the less than enthusiastic tone of most of the reviews. I'll still see the show and I think the audience for it will be strong enough (like Wicked) to survive the reviews but some of those reviews might make a wavering person think to skip the show.
-
Danise I'm pleased your mother wishes to stay where she is, for now anyway. Best that you can return to work part time and if your mother goes home, it won't be alone. You both need help during this time.
Continued vibes.

DR Danise: HANG IN THERE!
-
I am so Legally Bored! Laure Bell Bundy is a Lexington native and for the last week, you could have called the paper instead of the Lexington Herald-Leader, the Lexington Herald-Bundy! The local reviewer, who has done several articles on her in the past months has been on a Bundy barrage the last week...and his internet blog. You think it the second coming of Christ! Today, it's the reaction of her grandparents!
Thank God the reviews are out and maybe the paper will find some time for something else. If the local Arts scene got this much enthusiastic coverage, the theatre around here might be more vibrant and better attended!

Did anyone notice the omnipresent Ford F-1 series TV commercials on all the networks over the weekend?
Matt Battaglia touting the F-1 series "super-doody" trucks!
This may be a case, for some, like "marry", "mary", "merry". But "doody" and "duty" can be pronounced differently.
-
I'm glad that she at least had the choice. You have no idea how heavy it's been weighing on my heart to not tell her. I feel like at least part of a stone has been lifted off my chest.
I only just thought that I might ask the doctor if I might be able to take her home for a couple of hours. That way she could have some closure and say "Goodbye" to the house and both of the dogs at home.

DR Danise, I think it's great. I'm going to sound like a callous businessman but I'm telling you this because i love you. You need to discuss with your mother the financial situation when she goes: is there a will, pensions or insurance policies/policy with you as beneficiary. If there's no will, I'd suggest it be dones ASAP.
I send you my affection, my support, and a whole lotta love!

DR Danise i think you are doing great. You had a difficult decision to make.
I'm curious though what others think about the doctor forcing her hand (saying they would tell DR Danise's mom the truth if she asked). On the one hand she is their patient. But on the other you have a loving daughter who asked that she be the one to tell her.
I don't know why, but i was very surprised that the doctor said she would tell.

DR RonP, ah, so you have not seen mirna the whole season.

The doctor has an ethical obligation to inform the patient, the wishes of next of kin notwithstanding. Allowing next-of-kin the chance to break the news first is a courtesy.

Continued to be just gorgeous outside though still too warm for April (not quite a reference to a famous musical).
-
Before heading out for lunch I managed to watch a couple of things.
I began with COLD CASE. It was a very moving episode concerning the death of a young millionaire to a brain tumor which was discovered not to have been by natural causes but an injection of morphine into his IV. One of the best ones of the season from an emotional standpoint, and the identiy of "Louise" and the flashback to that story had me in tears.
-
I had the cable box on HBO-HD, and when COLD CASE ended, HBO-HD was showing HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE, so I watched about 25 minutes of it waiting for my friend to pick me up for our lunch date. I saw from the fight with the dragon to about the middle of the Yule Ball. Always enjoyable to visit with these folks.
-
When I got home, I thoroughly enjoyed last night's episode (#5) of THE TUDORS as the King continues to move toward either an annulment or a divorce. Hasn't happened yet, but it's coming. I was surprised about the early death of Henry Fitzroy. For some reason, I thought he grew to be a young man. I must really read that book by Alison Weir soon!
-
Next came ENTOURAGE, a good episode showing Ari's jealousy over an old fraternity brother who, after years of doing nothing amazing, lucked himself into a fortune and is now living the high life.
The story with Drama pissing off the UFC champion was very predictable.
-
I began RENO 911! but only got about 7 minutes or so into the show. The sequence with the escape artist in the park was hilarious.
-
I had no idea LEGALLY BLONDE didn't get all killer notices. The VARIETY review was very positive.

Good afternoon lovelies.........
I have just sat through 7 hours of seminar talks, demonstrations, in-depth "break out sessions," and giving one small presentation myself. In the immortal words of Charlie Brown .......
AAARRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH !!!!
I haven't had to think, be alert, and respond at this pace for most of the past year. I'm beginning to wonder how I used to do it ??!?!!

And it looks like maybe dear DR Jose indeed got a full day of auditions to play for today ! I just hope that some of the persons were decent....... and prepared!

DR MusicGuy, I sure am glad you aren't expecting me to pick you up at the airport on Wednesday.

My camera took twelve photos before the batteries went dead.

I'm heading down now to continue with my viewing for the day. I think I'll finish RENO 911! and then proceed with WITHOUT A TRACE.
-
And I'm certainly looking forward to HEROES tonight! Set in the future - what fun!
-
Good Afternoon!
Well, we ended up having a nice turn out for the auditions today. It wasn't "crazy", but a lot of "good options" came in, and we were able to take our time checking out people's strengths and weaknesses - since they want cast the remaining roles ASAP.
I was done around 3:30, and then took my usual stroll from 34th Street up to Columbus Circle. Gorgeous day!
-
Alas, it seems the warmer temps have brought out some of the "crazies" as well as some people's tempers. While walking up 9th Ave., I had a few close encounters of a not too pleasant kind. -Yes, that one gentleman did not have an actual samurai sword in his hand, but trying to walk around him as he went through the motions was still a little "tricky" to say the least. -And then there were the four construction workers who were getting into a pretty heated "discussion" under some scaffolding. Of course, I and a few other passers-by were "caught" under the scaffolding with them for a few moments. And one of the guys seemed like he was willing to involve anyone and everyone in the brewing fight.
Ah, New York City! Gotta Love It!
-
Dear DearReaderLaura - What kind of batteries do you use in your camera? Can you use rechargeables?

I've also La Grande Jatte. A couple of times.
The first time I saw it was in 1997. I had just finished playing for Sunday in the Park With George at Arena Stage, and had just started working in northwestern Indiana. On my first day off, I headed up to Chicago, and the AIC was my first - and only stop. It was raining that day, and I still remember all the umbrellas on the steps of the AIC.
When I entered the French galleries, I first encountered the aformentioned Caillebotte Paris Street, Rainy Day. But I was there for there for the Seurat, so... After making my way through a couple of hallways, I finally found the room. Wow! The ceiling in that room is a skylight of sorts, but since it was raining that day, the natural light was kind of dim. However, after a moment or two, the light suddenly got brighter - the sun was peeking through the clouds - and the painting really came to life. WOW!
I just stood and sat there for at least a half hour taking it all in. And, of course, I cried.
I've been back a few more times to the AIC, and I always make a point to visit the Seurat. *And there's that one piece in the modern gallery that's composed of pieces of wrapped hard candy in a pile in a corner. And, yes, you are supposed/invited to take a piece to consume. Hmm... And then there's that other piece that comprised of a penny from each year of the artist's life all lined up in a row. Hmm... In any case...
It was also neat seeing one of the "cigar box" studies in one of the other galleries. -There's also another cigar box study in the National Gallery of Art in DC.

As for other favorite art and artists... I'm another fan of the Impressionists. -And I still regret not standing in those long lines a couple of years ago at the National Gallery in DC.
There's really not much art that I don't like. Yes, there's stuff that I don't understand, but that doesn't mean I don't like it. In recent years, I've come to fully appreciate the work of Rembrandt and other Old Masters.
But one of the things that fascinates me the most about art - well, at least paintings - is the whole "science" of paint itself - oil, watercolors, etc. - and canvas. When I realize that something I'm looking at is hundred of years old, and it still is "here"... WOW!

I can use rechargeables, but they burn out even faster. I think it is time for a new camera.
-
I really liked the camera with the flat battery that lasted a month or so. But it got burns on the lens, so it is pretty much useless now.
-
In your case, just the OPPOSITE is true. This month, you, TCB, must remain CELIBATE and CHASTE.
But I already do that the other 11 months of the year!
-
Did anyone notice the omnipresent Ford F-1 series TV commercials on all the networks over the weekend?
Matt Battaglia touting the F-1 series "super-doody" trucks!
Oh, I certainly noticed them! LOL!
Actually he has been doing Ford truck commercials for about a month or so...they seem to run a lot during Desp. Housewives.
-
Now, if I was dyslexic...
;D
:-*
Which "I"? Your right or your left?

But I already do that the other 11 months of the year!
Mind your nose....!

Well, Jose....given all the advancements in science we've had, it may be possible for you, too, to be around more than a hundred years or so.
And I'm certain a little canvas and paint might be in order...
:D
-
I don't know why, but I am feeling wholly out of sorts today.
I blame Jose.
But I'll bitch-slap anyone who wishes to stand in for him.
Will you wear your black leather chaps?

Dear Friend Maureen stopped by for a visit, and said to say hello to BK.
-
So Bk - hello from Maureen!
-
My camera took twelve photos before the batteries went dead.
DR Laura---
My DH used tons of batteries in his work and he recommends Thomas Distributing:
http://www.thomas-distributing.com/index.htm
Does your camera take AA batteries? They have some called AccuPower 2900mAh's (2900 refers to the number of milli amp hours) and PowerEx's, which have 2700 mAhs. They are both NiMH batteries so they don't have a memory effect like the old NiCAD's did.
A really good charger for them is also made by PowerEx, the MH-C204F. It treats your batteries well and keeps them alive longer. You pay more up front but it's well worth it in the long run.
It's important to charge them pretty quickly after they run down, and if you don't use them, charge them once a month to keep them in good shape.
PM me if you have any more questions for him!
-
Isn't there a Sharon McNight song which goes:
Blow me - kisses across the room
Eat me - out of house and home
I think it's from her CD "Songs to Offend Practically Everybody"
-
Hi Maureen.
The "Blow Me" has lyrics co-written by Richard Kraft, who is a film music agent I've known for twenty years. The first person to sing the song (he still sings it as his encore) was Jason Graae.
-
In fact, it may be on the Cinegrill album - I can't remember.
-
Had a nice work session with Joan, but the whole process with her is just excruciating and the opposite of Merissa - we STILL need six or seven songs and we never move forward. But the Kirby Tepper piece of special material is going to be very funny.
I'm now home - I'd jog, but there's a chance that Buddy Bregman is coming by to pick up his order of CDs - and I won't know whether he is or not until he shows up, so I can't leave.
-
Will we never get to page nine?
-
And I'll be shipping in the morning.
-
I'm starving, but must wait until six o'clock for dinner meeting.
-

Something to do while waiting, that sort of thing.

It's easier than cart wrangling.

I'm still wanting to bitch-slap someone, but it's a co-worker who has been darting around the office like a flibbertigibbet on speed.
I'm about ready to stick my foot out and trip her next time she darts past my desk.

If you'd like some of the same, TCB, just let me know.

Good afternoon, fellow Dear Readers. It is still foggy here. I dropped the fellas off to kayak; the ladies are shopping somewhere.

I would rather do this than shop. I'm surprised no one joined you.

For anyone who is not convinced that most of the "guest stars" didn't actually appear in The List Of Adrian Messenger (Kirk appears in only about two of his disguises - the other disguises are worn by an actor named Jan Merlin. But, I just found out that Mr. Sinatra doesn't appear in one frame of this film save for the reveal at the end - I now know the actor who DID play it in the film proper - my muse Margaret's very own daddy, Dave Willock. You heard it here first.
-
Danise called me earlier today and we had a nice chat.
Danise-Stay healthy vibes while you are going through this, and vibes you don’t get too exhausted.
-
If I had to make a guess, I'd say that Buddy won't be coming today, which means I could have jogged - oh, well, first thing tomorrow morning.

I'm not Laura but thanks for the info for the rest of us! My parents got me a digital camera for Christmas and the digital camera batteries that I bought for it are already almost dead. :P I've only been playing with it...I haven't actually gone out and taken a whole bunch of pictures. I've been using ni-cad rechargeable batteries at work for my CD player and cordless headphones headphones for years! I know that that kind won't last in my camera at all.
-
Thank you, DR Jane. For everything. I'm not sure if I will go to work or not. I'm thinking not. By the time the evening rolls around I am just so tired.
-
DR Danise - thanks for staying in touch with us during this challenging time. Take care of yourself, too.

DR Danise, only do what you feel like doing. If you don't want to go into work, then don't. Everyone will understand. Right now all that matters is you and your mother.
Hugs.

The Monday Movie Matinee was a huge success. The "girls" (ages 78, 88, and 90) loved The Queen and the tea party. They each went home with a take-away bag of cookies.

Ditto, Danise. If you can take the week off, do it. Can it be counted as family leave time?

-
You're not the only one.
I'm with you on this one. I love Paris Street, Rainy Day...I couldn't walk away from it when I saw it in Chicago.
-
BK and Jose - Thanks for the additional info on that song

Continued love and strength vibes to you, Danise
-
DR Elmore, not to worry. All is in order. I took care of that about four years ago. I am so glad that I did.
Not only for Mom but for myself as well. I highly recommend that if anyone here hasn't put their wishes to paper that they do so. It will give you and your loved ones peace of mind.
-
I'm with you on this one. I love Paris Street, Rainy Day...I couldn't walk away from it when I saw it in Chicago.
I haven't seen the original. I have it on an umbrella! Most appropriate!
-
Thank you all for the continued good wishes. It is so wonderful to have such wonderful friends!
-
I shall shortly be on my way to the alumni association meeting, which is taking place at Mo's in Burbank (I am doing all these initial meetings over food - it's so much more fun and so much less stilted and formal).
-
Ditto, Danise. If you can take the week off, do it. Can it be counted as family leave time?
I have FMLA but the problem is that isn't paid time. What I worry about is that I might want some time for myself if Mom should pass. I don't want to rush right back to work or if I feel that I need a day off, I want to be able to take it. I can't have the paid time off and use it as well. Sigh. I have about 7 paid days left.
-
Well I am the proud lessee of a new office!!! YEAH!!

And may you do a lot of great work there!
-
Well I am the proud lessee of a new office!!! YEAH!!
Details? You sound pleased...
-
I'll try to post a few photos, but they don't really give you that great of an idea of the office. This is the building. It's the Frances Building, built as luxury offices in 1917 and named after the building's owner. My office is on the second floor. It's the two sets of larger windows on the far left of the building
-
The building next door is the Orpheum
-
This is one corner of the office and a window, the curtains are going and the carpet is going. The wood goes all the way around the office area (as opposed to the secretary's area)
-
This is part of the conference room. The wood on three walls is like the office. The wall you can see here is designed to hang art with lights that can be adjusted to highlight the art
-
This isn't that great, but it's a view from the front door through to the secretary's area
-
Cilla are you the one replacing the carpet & curtins, or is that part of the lease agreement?
-
It will be interesting to see photos of the same views, only newly decorated. I bet it will look great :)
-
Cilla are you the one replacing the carpet & curtins, or is that part of the lease agreement?
They repaint all areas that are painted and replace all the carpet with the paint and carpet I chose today. They also pay all utilities (except phone) provide all maintenance, cleaning and free high speed wireless internet
-
Oops, in my excitement for you I forgot to say CONGRATULATIONS!
-
Very nice. What colors did you choose?
-

That's pretty cool. :)
-
Well I am the proud lessee of a new office!!! YEAH!!
Congrats to DR Cillaliz!!!!
-
So are you going to be hiring a staff?
-
This office is 900 Square feet. So there is a lot of furniture to buy. Good thing I get along so well with the scratch and dent guy! I got him to drop the price on a leather sofa today $50 farther than he wanted to. When he asked why, I said because it was hot out. He laughed and said "Ok".
-
Speaking of hot. The air conditioning didn't work in the building we are now in today. And since you can't open the windows in the building the temperature was 89 degrees in there by about 11:00 AM - so they told us to go home. I have lots to do tomorrow, I'm hoping that the air is fixed, but I'm not confident about that. It did give me a chance to shop and apply for a small business loan. With all this space, I need to buy furniture!
-
Very nice. What colors did you choose?
Sort of a light taupe for the walls and a carpet that you have to see, it's light but has specks of lots of different colors in it.
-
Sounds nice, and the carpet should hide stains well.
-
So are you going to be hiring a staff?
I was going to wait, but everywhere I go it seems someone is asking me for a job. So, I may do it sooner than I planed, at least part time. It all depends on the cash flow.
-
Hugs to Danise. You are so strong, my friend. Don't forget to take care of yourself.
-
Congratulations, Cillaliz!
-
Thanks everyone. This office will be much nicer than the office I had planned on renting in the Orpheum and the building is much nicer. The manager seems to know everything about everybody, but that isn't all bad I guess
-
Cilla-Nice it all worked out for the best. Good Wishes and Best of Vibes for a satisfying and successful new practice.
-
If anyone is interested, here is the building website http://www.francesllc.com/
-
Thanks Jane.
-
CONGRATULATIONS, DR CILLALIZ!!!
I am so happy for you! A propitious start to your new endeavors.
:)

You don’t have to leave the building to have your hair cut.
It looks like a very nice building. I watched a good portion of the Sioux City video. I would have watched it all except I got tired of clicking on play every half second.
-
DR Cillaliz - Great news!
-
DR Danise - Thanks again for keeping us all updated on how things are going for you and your mother. It really does sound like you're doing what you need to do, and that you're not "freaking out". You're there for your mom and that's all that counts right now.
-
DR Cillaliz - thanks for all the details! Now we know why you sounded so pleased - great photos and website. Bet you can't wait!

I will miss Danny and Oswald :-\
Okay wow. You really like mirna? I can see why people would like charla. She is sort of nice. And i suppose mirna has her moments. But 99% of the posts i've read cannot stand mirna. Her fake accent. Her mean comments towards her cousin. And her general rude behavior.
But i think the editing has tried to make her look good at times. Especially last night.
I am not surprised you liked oswald and danny though. Everyone seemed to like them. However i think they really blew it these last 2 weeks.
My team is the beauty queens. Go blondes!
-
Congrats to DR Cillaliz!
DR Danise, I was also wondering why you were thinking about going back to work. They really should give paid leave for things like this. It's enough to just deal with the situation. But to have to worry about work too is a lot.
Anyhow continued vibes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Well...I'm off to the auditions! Be back later! :D
-
George, hope the audition goes well.

Cilla - Congrats! Everything looks so promising, and we're thrilled for you.

DR Jennifer, there were a few times that I disliked Mirna's actions, but I forgave her...the two of them I find so very entertaining.
-
Cillaliz, now I am envious not only of your house, but of your office as well! That wood is great!!! Is it the original wood that has always been in the office?

I don't know from today's TOD.

I'm back from a lovely dinner party at Steve Ross' apartment. I saw several old friends and hopefully made a few new ones. The food was lovely and the musical theatre game after was fun.
I have to be up early so g'night, all!

Will we never get to page twelve?

This is no way to send off April.
-
Back from a lovelier than lovely dinner meeting - a very good one, and I'll be talking about it in the notes.

Congrats to DR Cillaliz on her new office!

Will we never get to page nine?
Sure.

Congratulations to Cillaliz!

Had some good viewing experiences this evening.
I began with last night's WITHOUT A TRACE, a sad story of a missing divorce judge. The story didn't go anywhere one might have expected with that as a job for the missing man, so it was quite interesting and entertaining.
-
Will we never get to page twelve?
Of course.
-
Next, I watched the first episode on disc 4 of THE WILD WILD WEST, Season 2. It was called "The Night of the Skulls," a kind of courtroom and trial run by the most violent criminals imaginable. None of the actors in the major guest roles were actors I was familiar with. Usually there is at least one I know either by face or voice, but in this one, none at all.
-
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER had a wonderful episode with three storylines going - Ted trying to get the right toast for the upcoming wedding, Lily trying to gain weight so she could fit into her wedding dress, and, most hilariously, Barney trying to connect with his "father," Bob Barker by playing THE PRICE IS RIGHT.
-
OLD CHRISTINE had some funny moments, too, as Christine and Richard reconnected, just as they did momentarily at the end of last season. Maybe they're going to end EVERY season like this. There were some funny moments.
-
'24' certainly had some tense scenes as Jack, Mike, and company continued their efforts to stop the Chinese from using the microchip for their war-inclined purposes. Some great surprises tonight, and I was SO happy to see the traitor exposed quickly rather than dragging it out over two or three episodes. The show has done lots of things wrong this season, but this is one thing they've done right from the beginning - moved the various plots along with uncompromising speed.
-
HEROES, of course, was the night's best show, a gripping view of the future with many twists on old formulas, lots of information which may or may not come true exactly as we saw it, and just edge-of-your-seat tension. Loved it.
-
I'll still have THE SOPRANOS and tonight's CSI: MIAMI to watch tomorrow. The latter show advertised some unexpected developments with lab personnel, something I'm not exactly looking forward to.
-
As for the Topic o' the Day, I don't know much from art, aside from pieces from the Fingerpainting School. And I drew a picture of a fishy cracker that is currently hanging on the fridge. The three-year-olds with me titled it "Googie-Eyes: A Yellow and Green Fishy Cracker."
Oh yeah, and Rembrandt rides my bus.
-
I'm heading down to bed now.
Good night!
-
There was a commercial for the local news, and there was a thing about a guy in Phoenix who dresses up in a cape and tights and calls himself a super hero. At the end of the commercial, it said, "Watch the newscast. Save the world."
-
I'm with you on this one. I love Paris Street, Rainy Day...I couldn't walk away from it when I saw it in Chicago.
Neither could I - I brought it home on a mug!
Also have a "Seurat - Sunday" mug - which I am using as I we "speak".

And my Hopper Mug

Cilla - Congrats! Everything looks so promising, and we're thrilled for you.
Thanks! My big issue at the moment is how I'm going to mix traditional and modern and whether to have an "office furniture" conference table or to get a real cool table somewhere like Pier 1 and turn it into a conference table. I've got to drop off the loan app and papers tomorrow, but I'm not asking for that much in the grand scheme of things, so it shouldn't be a problem. This is starting to be a lot of fun!
-
Cillaliz, now I am envious not only of your house, but of your office as well! That wood is great!!! Is it the original wood that has always been in the office?
Not since 1917. I think it was remodeled at some point. You can tell from the outside that the window to the north is blocked off. Sort of bummer, I could have 2 more windows, but if I have to give them up, I'll give them up for the wood.
I was really lucky to get this. Office space is plentiful and cheap here, but to find something already laid out in exactly the floor plan I want and on the skywalk, like I wanted to be is just incredible to me
-
Congrats on your new office, DR Cillaliz. It is a lovely old building, and old buildings are so beautiful.
-
Well, the family festivities are over for the night.
-
Well, my big day is done and it's late. The highs are supposed to be in the 70s tomorrow. I'm sure it will still be hot at work (no air and no windows that open) but I have lots of work to do there tomorrow so if it's hot I shall still be there.
-
Congrats on your new office, DR Cillaliz. It is a lovely old building, and old buildings are so beautiful.
Thanks Laura.
-
DR Jennifer....have to say I used to hate Myrna or is it Mirna, but I don't anymore. I think it would be kind of cool if they won.

A Security System More Lethal Than PMS: The Tampon Taser Gun
Ladies can replace that monthly period with an exclamation mark as feminine hygiene goes lethal with The Pink Stinger, a taser/stun gun creatively disguised as a tampon...except for the buttons, prods and high voltage. This weapon of mass absorption aims to target a niche market consumer, that being the tampon wielding women who desire private and discreet security in a friendly familiar package.
