Yes we have big Facebook drama today.....so I finally had to unfriend my nephew and his bipolar wife who is 28 years older than he is....

I didn't join in the comments on the thread, but it was so ridiculous.....she has him convinced that his family never loved him, held him back, and do not want him to be happy.....and he never calls, talks, or visits any of his family.....they came to see us last month - which was a shock.....

She says it takes her three weeks to get him "back to normal" after he has any contact with his family.

ANYWAY....that's just the tip of the iceberg and not worth talking about anymore...except to say that Facebook does NOT help...it is actually the anti-communicator.

I am a newbie to Facebook. I didn't really want a Facebook page. But then again I wasn't all that much of a caller or texter and I very rarely take photos. You can say I'm a man from another time. Maybe I really was a monk at one time, copying books and drawing all of those calligraphy curlicues.

Speaking of Facebook, I was at my usual Indian eatery yesterday (it's a bit too modest to call a restaurant), when a young woman got in the buffet line behind me. She was on her phone and I could hear her say, "Mom, can I call you back? I'm at the Indian place." She looked at me with a "What can I do?" look. I said, "Mothers!" understandingly. We happened to both be leaving at the same time and she started up a conversation, telling me how she didn't even buy a cell phone until she was 24 and was required to do so for her job. She feels pressure to be available 24/7. She said that she's not even on Facebook. I'm not, either, but was surprised to hear a twenty-something say this. Perhaps I'm not the only person on Earth who cares about privacy.

I think there was a Sharon Schnitte in my junior high class. She had bad pyrrhuloxia, so she would literally drink bottles of Listerine all day. That caused her to go to Dr. Thamakau who fixed her caudillismo and her canutenpin.

This reminds me of face-to-face conversation vs. texting and phoning (and maybe Facebook can be added here as well). When I commuted daily on the LIRR, there were people who were talking the whole ride from Manhattan and then you'd see them meet up with their significant other, with whom they were blabbering on the phone with for nearly an hour, and you could tell that they had already expended their conversation fodder. Just as email has ruined the handwritten letter and the postal service. Just as texting has ruined spelling, grammar and syntax. Facebook is likely to ruin the art of conversation in person. Some people just don't get subtleties or don't think much of their audience by having to resort to ALL CAPS TO GET THEIR POINT ACROSS. Or, they need the crutch of any number of abbreviations as if the person reading the post could not figure what it all means for themselves.

Anyway, I YIELD the soapbox. LOL

Today, Mike, my volunteer driver for cancer patients, took me out shopping. One of the stops was at a thrift store, and there I found a CD that I hope is good. It looks brand new. It's a 2 CD set of "Sunday in the Park with George" the 2006 London cast recording. As I may have mentioned before, I would like to become more familiarized with B'way musicals as I had paid more attention to dramas.
