I have also read that Tammy Faye Baker is knocking at heaven's gate. She is down to 65 pounds and stopped any kind of treatment for her cancer.

I see that Boyd Gaines can become the first actor to win 4 Tony awards and in all 4 different categories! Previously won for She Loves Me (Best Actor), Contact (Best Featured Actor) & The Heidi Chronicles (Best featured actor)

Skeet Ulrich?  You didn't like Skeet?

Holy Moly....on rye.

Oh, well....diffrent strokes and all that.

Well, you like Skeet, I like Skeet, and MBarnum has reservations.

But we have Gerald McRaney for MBarnum, so I'm still at a loss.

Had some interesting viewing this evening. I began with some additional special features on the SANSHO THE BAILIFF DVD. There was an interview with the first assistant director about working on the film. Always great to interview folks who were actually on a film set and know what they're talking about.

I also watched a lengthy video critique of the film by a Japanese film critic. Had some interesting information to impart. Though he conisders the film a masterwork, he doesn't find it Mizoguchi's best film as many other critics do. He gave some interesting reasons why he didn't.

I had time enough to be able to watch another episode in the PLANET EARTH set. This one was "Caves," and it certainly was fascinating. Because of the low light levels, much of the photography in this episode did have that "picture window" depth that the other HD episodes have had, but it was still beautifully done.

IDOL random comments:

Melinda definitely the best of the night. She used her three songs to show many colors in her voice and her ability to finesse and belt with the best of them. She also had the most difficult song in the first two rounds. As usual, she came through with flying colors.

Blake and Jordin did well with their songs, but for me, they gave each song the same color (unlike Melinda). Jordin is all about belting at the top of her voice. She can do it, and she didn't crack, but it gets tiresome. Blake's boy band stylings are going to probably get him into the finals. He is fun to watch and listen to, but again, nothing new to offer

I would like to fire every one of those backup singers. THEY ARE TOO LOUD often obliterating the vocal of the leading singer. For both Jordin and Blake, it was sometimes hard to tell who was singing the highest notes. I think often people unschooled in singing don't know whose voice it is they're listening to. In one of Blake's songs (the second one, I think), their oversinging masked some bum notes he was hitting.

I think there should never be backup singers during a competitive round. We need to have no question about whose voioce is doing the vocalizing.

HOUSE had an interesting episode about a bratty genius in seriously bad health. Held my attention throughout, and the diagnosis for him seemed appropriate.

THE SHIELD, another riveting episode. Shane making deals with the Russian mob; Vic feeling his back against the wall. Grand drama.

So tomorrow, I'll get to tonight's VERONICA MARS, BOSTON LEGAL, and SVU. There's still THE SOPRANOS as well.

Well, my untrained ear was frequently pulled to the back-ups; it seems when the back-ups are up-fronts we have a group act, not a solo performace.

You got my vote on ban the back-ups!

I would much rather see Grey Gardens win for Best Score than Spring Awakening.  I loved the Grey Gardens CD.

For DearReaderLaura:

I talked with my son-in-law who is a contractor specializing in re-models. He said no reputable contractor would agree to to a tile surround without pulling the dry-wall; if the tile is mounted to dry wall and not the special tile-back walling, the tiles will start falling off in about four years.

Thanks, DerBrucer. It is not regular drywall; it is some kind for around water. I talked to a tileman today, and he will put up a backboard of some kind. He should be able to start in about a week. Hooray!

We finished painting DS's room. We used the very boring too-light blue paint that was in the kitchen for a short time. In the bedroom it looks very nice.
