BK, today I read "Rewind."  I couldn't put it down...well, I didn't want to put it down, but I had to.  My former housemate came over to pack up some stuff to take to his mother's house because he got married and moved out and didn't take much with him because he and his new wife obviously don't have enough storage space, hence his leaving things still at my house (after getting married three weeks ago) AND needing to store things at his mother's.  My, what an unseemly sentence. ::) After he left, I was able to finish the book without any additional interruptions.  Anyway, about the book.  Here's my review:  "It was very good."  That's all I will say since I don't want to give anything away. ;)

Watching Zombies on Broadway right now, starring Carney and Brown and Mr Bela Lugosi.  Produced by Ben Stoloff, who I think was married to Eleanor Parker for about 10 minutes, and directed by Gordon Douglas who would go on to direct Miss Carroll Baker in Harlow.  Wonder if they ever talked about ZOMBIES ON BROADWAY?

Last night I watched un film titled “Ossessione” of Luchino Visconti, which is based on an American crime fiction.  It’s my second time to see it. I wonder how many times this novel has become a movie so far. Three or four times?  I didn’t like much  the remake with Jack Nicholson and Jessica Lange , “ The Postman Always Rings Twice”,  and I wonder a French film titled “Le Telephone Sonne Toujours Deux Fois” is one of the remake films?
I love black-and-white films, especially, Visconti’s one which has incredibly elegant reflection.

Hi all!

I hope that all is going well for DR MichaelS.

So far, so good for us.  I've been up most of the night but I didn't post because I was afraid the power would go out.  It was pretty rough in patches.

I did a quick look/see out the door because the sun is starting to come up but I don't see much damage.  Mostly little branches and tons of leaves are down.  It will be awhile before I can go outside and have a really good look around.

Now we are going to get cold.  45 degrees tomorrow morning.  That's quite a drop from the 80's.  Burrrr.

Laters!

Thank you, DR Jose once again for all of the hard work you put into the eating tour.  I can't speak for anyone else but you really helped to make this last trip something very special.

One of the hurricane supplies I bought yesterday was a "StoryTeller Photo Book Creater" by Epson.  When it is finished, I'll have all of the   vacation in one neat little book.

Today I shall work on the photos and start (hopefully) burning disks tonight.  If I don't have your physical address and you want a disk, please let me know so I can get you one.

Congrats to DR TCB!  How wonderful for you!  Does your group do this like a Tony award show?  I don't know if I ever told you all this but many moons ago when I belonged to a local theater group, we did "Evita".  It was my first show.

When the awards came around I was nominated for “Best Supporting Actress”—something that was unheard of with that group I was told.  They said that it took years before your name would even be considered for anything.

Well, I was honored for the nomination and never expected it go any further.  Imagine my surprise when I won!

One of the shining moments in my life.

On another note, I had a bad dream last night.  One of those real dreams.  I was in bed and felt “someone/thing” grab me and he/it said, “Alright now…..” I didn’t give him/it a chance to say anything else because I woke up.  Sat up with my heart racing.

It was one of those times I was very glad that Bear was in bed with me.  I really needed to be reassured there for a moment.  I got up, turned the light on but of course, nothing was there.  I don’t know what caused that but I HATE it when that happens.

And the word of the day is: SCROD!
From Wikipedia:

Scrod is not acutally a type of fish, but rather a generic term believed to mean "catch of the day," refering to any white, edible fish.

What does it mean "Peplum", DR JRand???

DR Hisaka, I looked it up online and this is what I found:

pep·lum  (pplm)
n. pl. pep·lums
1. A short overskirt or ruffle attached at the waistline of a jacket, blouse, or dress.
2. See peplos.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Latin, robe of state, from Greek peplon, neuter of peplos, peplos.]

I am not a fan of TOD films.  Everyone always talks like they're so wonderfully educated, and it just rings as false to me.  Dang it, since when do shepherds speak as if they've been to Harvard or Eaton?  (Like either of those schools would allow students to wear that kind of footwear, for beginners.)

Almost forgot something...

Roasted Scrod with Parsley Potatoes Recipe courtesy Emeril Lagasse, 1998

Recipe Summary
Difficulty: Easy
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 35 minutes
Yield: 6 servings

1 1/2 pounds new potatoes, quartered
4 scrod fillets, (6 to 8 ounces)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
24 flaky butter crackers
4 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley, plus 1 tablespoon

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Place the potatoes in a saucepan and cover with water. Season the water with salt. Place the pan over medium heat and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and cook the potatoes until fork tender, about 12 minutes. Drain and set the potatoes aside.

Season the scrod with salt and pepper. In a mixing bowl, using your hands, crush the crackers into fine crumbs. Stir in the melted butter and 1 tablespoon of parsley. Place the scrod on a parchment or waxed paper baking sheet. Sprinkle the top of each fillet with the crust. Roast the fillets for 12 minutes.

In a saute pan, melt the remaining butter. Add the potatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Saute the potatoes for 4 to 6 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in the remaining parsley.

To serve, spoon the potatoes in the center of each plate. Lay the fish directly on top of the potatoes and serve.

DR HISAKA - sorry I wasn't around to answer your question.

DR DANISE is correct.

Because the peplum on some women's clothing was similar to the clothing worn around the waist of the musclemen in gladiator movies, they are called Peplum films.  I first learned this term from DR MBARNUM.

Good morning, all!  First of all, DRDanise, I hope this is the end of tropical storms in your neck of the woods.  I hope things go as well for DRMichaelShayne.

DRTCB, congratiulations!  MTV's gain will be Tacoma's loss.

DRHisaka, the peplum is that short little skirt the gladiators and muscle boys wear in all those Roman/Greek movies.

DRSWoodyWhite, I always liked the fact that shepherds in Judea spoke so literately.  It makes up for all the current illiteracy around me.

Another positive review for REWIND!  I haven't seen any mysterious negative postings anywhere yet from Cora (was that the ass' name?).

Today, after too long a delay, I'm having my eyes tested for new glasses.  Thiis is a very good thing because I was ready to play Helen in a new production of THE MIRACLE WORKER with the world's oldest cast of actors.

Speaking of men's underwear, last night I watched Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man.  I couldn't help but notice that when the Invisible Man first went invisible and removed his clothing, he was going commando.  I wonder if this scene had the same effect on the underwear industry as Clark Gable going without an undershirt in It Happened One Night.

Re: last night's DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES.

I was thinking about last night's show before reading DR MattH's post.

The storylines this year are just not as interesting.  I went through them in my head one by one.  And I totally agree with what DR MattH said.  Bree's storyline was the only one that was up to snuff.

The whole thing about DH is the funny storylines.  Bree's was quite funny with the whole "burying Rex" story.  Gabrielle's was second best (the lawyer) but not THAT interesting.  Then to me came Susan's story.  I just don't think she would have lied to the plumber and sent zach off.  But i think the most boring was Lynnette.  I suppose her method to deal with her boss was somewhat okay.  But I really didn't care for it.

And i'm not liking Alfre and son's story at all. She doesn't connect with any of the other women.  And so far it's just not interesting!

~~~~~~~~~~Good Vibes to our friends in Wilma's path~~~~~~~
As I was exiting my building today, my landlady came running at me, her mouth full of toothpaste, yelling, "You've got a leak! You've got a leak!!" Confused, I immediately checked the front of my pants. She said it was in our bathroom and as I stared at her blue, foamy tongue, she explained that there is water running down the walls of the two apartments below mine and her ceiling is bubbling and about to give way. I am unaware of any leaks in my bathroom, but her husband - who I am certain is NOT a plumber - is in our apartment as I type this trying to find the leak. If the leak is coming from our tub, we're screwed. He'd have to rip out all the tile around the tub just to get to the pipes. :-\
~~~~~~~~~~Good Vibes to our friends in Wilma's path~~~~~~~

As I was exiting my building today, my landlady came running at me, her mouth full of toothpaste, yelling, "You've got a leak! You've got a leak!!" Confused, I immediately checked the front of my pants. She said it was in our bathroom and as I stared at her blue, foamy tongue, she explained that there is water running down the walls of the two apartments below mine and her ceiling is bubbling and about to give way. I am unaware of any leaks in my bathroom, but her husband - who I am certain is NOT a plumber - is in our apartment as I type this trying to find the leak. If the leak is coming from our tub, we're screwed. He'd have to rip out all the tile around the tub just to get to the pipes. :-\

Yikes!  I don't know which mental picture is worse--the landlady with the foaming blue mouth or the picture of you having your bathroom all torn up!

KING OF KINGS (Jeffrey Hunter) became my new favorite Biblical epic after watching it on DVD a couple of months ago. That magnificent score and the ernestness without pomposity takes it to the top for me.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS is a great movie-movie, but it's gained so much campy value over the years that I can't take it seriously as much any more.

Sword and Sandal: THE THIEF OF BAGDAD with Steve Reeves.

Topic of the Day -

The Ten Commandments

And the title just slipped my mind... The one that covers the first couple of books of The Bible, at least from Adam & Eve to Noah and the Ark.

Since I spent a good deal of my elementary and high school years in parochial schools, I saw a lot of Bible movies.  They were always better than having an actual class.  ;)

*However, once I got into middle school and high school, what were really fun were those "moral values" short subjects.  I still remember the one with David Cassidy.  His "acting" even caused the priest to laugh out loud, especially during the whole "morning after" sequence.  -And the real funny thing was that it was never really stated what had happened the night before.  Did he have a drink?  Did he get drunk?  Did he drink and drive?  Did he have sex?  Did he do all of the above?  Or was he just feeling guilty about thinking about drinking and having sex?

;D

TOD:  Hmmmm...."Biblical" and "Sword and Sandal".........

Strictly speaking, Biblically, I'd have to name "Samson and Delilah" in a tie with "The Ten Commandments."

My favorite EPIC films, however, are "The Egyptian," "Quo Vadis," Ben-Hur," "Spartacus" and "The Robe."

I think "Spartacus" probably fits into the sword-and-sandal category, and it would be in first place with "Demetrius and the Gladiators" in second.

I'm having an unhappy-customer-Home-Shopping-Network" morning.

A few weeks back, I ordered two cell phones...one for me, and one for my mother (as a Christmas gift)...and I was most explicit that one phone was for South Carolina and should be assigned a South Carolina area code/phone number.  I was assured there was no problem.

But what did I get?

You betcha -- two Oakland CA area code 510 numbers.

And HSN says I can call a couple of numbers and try to straighten it out, or I can send the phone back.  They also said I should have had the one phone mailed directly to my mother IF I had wanted a SC area code/number assigned.

I suggested they SHOULD have instructed their staff better when taking orders as I was told all was kosher.

I may send BOTH phones back if this evening's telephone marathon trying to sort it out fails.

Hmm...

I'd say DR Matthew - where has he been? - would be a better source of info on the show.

I don't know much about the show.  I've heard the score.  Eh...

However, I do have some friends in the show - onstage, backstage and under it (in the pit)...

In any case...

I know the source material.  I'd say it's family-friendly, but it may not be all that interesting to the "average" kidster.  However, since the vixter is most certainly not the average kidster... and since she recognizes the suspense in Phantom of the Opera...

Musical mysteries have never had an easy time of it. REDHEAD won the Tony and ran a year (but no revivals anywhere) while BAKER STREET ran six months and flopped. DROOD was great fun, but it, too, closed in the red after a year and a half.

Oh, DR Ron, that kind of thing drives me simply bonkers. I hate trying to sort out something like that which on the surface should be very simple to do and, of course, in reality becomes this BIG DEAL on their end.

Bah!

Every year, I give the women in my family (8 of them) a piece of seasonal jewelry...usually a pin.

This year, I ordered 8 Christopher Radko "Father Christmas" pins...from HSN, mind you.

I received 8 boxes, with 8 pouches...inside those 8 pouches were the following:

5 Father Christmas pins
4 wreath pins
4 bracelets
1 large Christmas tree pin
1 small Christmas tree pin
1 small Snowman pin.

16 pieces of jewelry, only 5 of which I wanted/ordered.

11 pieces are enroute to their Virginia offices while 3 "Father Christmas" pins are, allegedly, wending their way toward me.

All the boxes bore the item code number for the "Father Christmas" pin.  All the pouches bore the item code number for the "Father Christmas" pin.

I think I may have been shipped someone's "stash."

Sigh.

My Fiddler on the Roof review  (if anyone cares)

First of all, I was very taken by the set.  I liked having the orchestra upstage " in the woods" and the whole staging just really captured the "story telling" feel of the show for me.

Harvey Feirstein was very good.... I spent a good part of the second act with tears rolling down my face. the only issue I had with him is that I "lost" some of his dialogue  because of his low rgravelly voice...I think I have to get my hearing checked  I think I may be losing my abiooltity to hear lower register sounds.

Rosie O'Donnell  brought absolutely nothing to role I am sorry to say, she wasn't  bad, it wasn't like she ruined the show, but she didn't do anything to enhance it either.

The dancing was spectatcular.

We had great seats row P orchestra right on the aisle and short people sittingin front of us.   The only bad thing was a lady behind us who kept talking, comparing the play to the movie.  At one point she was getting ridiculously loud and the man sitting next to me and I both turned around and glared at her at the same moment.  She stared back  and then said to her son  "What's their problem?"  he replied (to his credit) "I think they want to hear the show, Ma. Can we talk about this later?"

She sat in sullen silence the rest of the show but it was silence bless the boy!

How was the show received without Verdon to do the role tailored for her?

Thanks for the info.

It's a rather lousy show!  Albert Hague was very complimentary to me, but I kept wishing the director Christopher Ashley had looked at earlier drafts to see how it was changed to accommodate Verdon, who was so exhausted by the role that she would regularly drop numbers each night.  I would have liked to see the Bea Lillie script, where I suspect the mystery is better and there are fewer production numbers.  Goodspeed didn't have enough dancers to pull off some numbers, but Marilyn Cooper was wonderful as one of the ditsy aunts who run the waxworks exhibit.

DR vixmom - I did enjoy your Fiddler review and was glad to hear that you and The Vixter ate at Barrymore's.

DH Richard and I had a musical Sunday afternoon.  We went to the second show in our Broadway subscription, The Ten Tenors.  It's hardly what I'd call a musical, but it was fun - certainly not what I expected.  Actually, I'd like to hear those guys sing without all the accompaniment and amplification.  It was the first of our shows in the Victoria Theatre and our balcony seats are very uncomfortable.  It's a beautifully refurbished place, but there's no leg room.  Richard was especially miserable, but at least he had an aisle seat.

When the show was over, we joined his Dayton shape-note singing group for the second half of their October gathering.  It was my first time attending a sing and I think I'll leave the shape-note singing to Richard.  I found it very confusing and loud, which irritated the tinnitus I have in my right ear.

Shape-note singing has always fascinated me.  However, like yourself, it can be a bit loud and "hard" on my ears.  The harmonies are very "cool", but all those open intervals - fourths and fifths - can start my ears ringing too.

Due to the "efficiency" of the USPS, a lot of my mail from the past six weeks has NOT been getting forwarded to my new address.  So, apparently, I have a TON of mail waiting for me at my old apartment.  Thankfully, most of the important stuff, I handle online, but there's still lots of snail mail to deal with.  So...  Guess I'll be spending the rest of the afternoon going through all of it...  Can you say, "paper shredder"?

When I was a youngen, a friend's sister hand made pairs of tighty-whities for our G I Joes.  My friend and I showed our appreciation by drawing skidmarks on them with brown markers.  She didn't find it funny at all.

More news from the doll world (why I seemed to be doll-savvy I'm not quite sure):  Ken is getting a makeover    (http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20051024/LIFE/510240309/1005) by Mattel.

I think I have my Emperors mixed up.  I was thinking of that skinny guy with the high screeming voice.

I think you are talking about Jay Robinson who portrayed Caligula in "The Robe" and "Demetrius and the Gladiators"!!!

Does anyone else out there think Ken looks like he's wearing a toupee most of the time?

Maybe he needs to try the buzzed look this time out.

Back from lunch and ready to head out for the movie.

That is, if I can back out of my garage. The construction workers think nothing of parking right in front of my driveway for 30-45 minutes while they deliver something to the work site next door. Very irritating but I know better than to complain. My yard would be trashed every night if I said anything.

VixMom, I liked the stage set up of Fiddler as well.  I forgot to mention that.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one in tears the almost the whole second act.  I thought it was because I was so tired.

Gotta go get supper going.  It's slow roasted chicken for us today.  It will help to warm up the house.

Laters!

I'm so glad you're doing okay there.. I have been worried about you ahaving to evacuate right after having surgery and I was wooried about what you would do with Bear....

Some thoughts on peplums and what-not:

There was an episode of "Designing Women" in which Charles Frank portrayed a charming southern gentleman with whom Julia Sugarbaker was much taken.

The only problem was, he was not as forward as Julia had hoped he'd be.  After a couple of dates, he had not even kissed her.

Suzanne pointed out that perhaps he was not inclined toward kissing her...and reminded her that the gentleman knew what a peplum was.

While that's neither here nor there, I have to say that was the last time -- until today -- that the word peplum had been brought to my attention.

And it reminded me of fanny packs.  Ever notice that when men wear fanny packs, they don't wear them on their "fannies," but use them as a surrogate cod piece?

Women often wear them correctly, or on the hip, but most men wear them directly over the crotch.

And then I thought of MBarnum's reference to peplum movies...those wrap-around jobbies that cover the loincloths in the sword-and-sandal epics....and I thought, "Hey!  Fanny packs are really 'peplum packs'!"

I mean, I've seen those peplums on women's outfits...never over the crotch area (which would make them skirts, I suppose), but over the stomachs, just under the bosoms.  I've seen many a peplum worn to disguise a belly.

In spaghetti epics, they are lower...like kilts or mini-skirts.

At any rate, I thought of these things...and had to share them.

I just received thi speice of (sad) news in my inbox, I don't know if it was already posted on Sunday as I still have not had an opportunity to catch up

Quote
Stage and Screen Producer Tony Adams Dead at 52
by Broadway.com Staff

Tony Adams

Theater producer Tony Adams, a longtime collaborator of filmmaker Blake Edwards, died of a stroke at Beth Israel Hospital in New York City on October 22. He was 52 years old.
Adams co-produced Edwards' Victor/Victoria for the Broadway stage, which opened at the Marquis Theatre on October 25, 1996 and ran 734 performances. His relationship with Edwards began in 1975, working as associate producer on The Return of the Pink Panther. He eventually became president of Blake Edwards Entertainment, overseeing the original acclaimed film version of Victor/Victoria as well as countless other films including 10, S.O.B., The Man Who Loved Women, Micki and Maude, A Fine Mess, That's Life!, Blind Date, Sunset, Skin Deep, Switch and five Pink Panther sequels.

In a statement, Blake Edwards and wife Julie Andrews said, “We have known Tony for so many years; we felt he was our second son. He was a beloved, dear, trusted and talented friend. We are devastated at this sudden loss and we will miss him, his kindness and his wonderful sense of humour. Our thoughts go out to his family at this time.”

Off Broadoadway, Adams produced Minor Demons at the Century Center for the Performing Arts in 1997 and the recent The Immigrant at Dodger Stages. He was a senior managing member of Hello Entertainment, a theater producing company actively developing and producing Broadway projects. In addition, Adams produced Lullaby of Broadway: Opening Night on 42nd Street, Julie Andrews: Back on Broadway, My Favorite Broadway: The Leading Ladies and My Favorite Broadway: The Love Songs for PBS.
Adams is survived by his third wife, The Phantom of the Opera star Anne Runolfsson, and children Alister Adams, Andrew Hopewell, Molly Adams and Tess Adams.

DR RonP, that home shopping channel service sounds crazy!  I guess whoever shipped the pins cannot be blamed since they had the right # on them. Although what were you charged for?  But what are they doing to compensate you for all this mix-up?

The cell phone thing would make me crazy, especially since you said you asked for something specific on the phone.  I would probably ask to speak to a supervisor and see what they can do for you.  But this does not sound good.

DR Vixmom, re: talking during plays/musicals.  I sort of have a policy, that I give people a few chances before I say anything.  I would have let that lady annoy me 2 or 3 times.  But then i would have said something.  Just glaring does not usually do the trick.   Since obviously she had no idea what she was doing.

Sometimes it can annoy the annoying person.  But I know that if I don't speak up, then their chattering will bother ME for the rest of the show.

So I just try to be really nice about it.  Because most of the time the person does not even realize how rude they are being.

BK, I started Rewind last night--very enjoyable so far.  I still remember discussing "limo services" with you over lunch at Jerry's.  ;)

TOD:  Anything with a Rosza score, which covers just about everything from the 50s, LOL.  I even have a soft spot for "Sodom and Gomorrah" (TCB, TCB, where are you?).

And speaking of TCB, congrats!!!

I would ask about your soft spot, JMK, but I am not that type of guy!

Thank you, one and all, for your congratulations.  I was thrilled.  The most gratifying award was the Best Actor for "Branch Rickey" in NATIONAL PASTIME.  It was, I think, my finest work to date.  I had been told that I was not eligible for that show, because it was a second stage production, but the judges disagreed.

For winning the Richard Odlin Awards, which are chosen by a panel of judges, you receive a plaque.  This if the first year of the People's Choice Awards, but I have been told that you are given a certificate.

The Richard Odlin Awards (The Dickies) were first given out in the late 50s, early 60s.  They were named after a beloved artistic director who had died of lung cancer in 1958.  There is a bronze statue of him in his last role as Sakini in TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MO0N in the lobby of the theater.  The original awards were two-foot tall replicas of that statue.  I have one of those awards at home.

But there's nothing like a GOM (grand old man) of the theater!

Jennfier:  HSN believes it has done its due by me as I received both phones....but they placed the order through Cingular and it was, in their opinion, Cingular that messed up the original order.

The solution is for me to register the phone "I" want to use and then have them transfer me to the Cingular east coast office that can assign a new phone number and issue me a chip for my mother's phone.

I smell extra bucks...but I guarantee you I will bill back HSN for anything more that I have to pay.

Regarding the pins:  I paid only for 8 "Father Christmas" pins.  I have 5 in my possession and 3 more are being mailed to me.  I have mailed back the 11 unwanted pieces of jewelry, and I will be calling HSN and letting them know it is on its way and that I paid priority postage and insured it for $100 which I wish to be reimbursed for.

Back from GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK. Engrossing film dealing with a period in our country's history when I was alive but too young to know or care what was going on.

There is just something about black and white photography that just grips you - instantly - from the second a film begins, especially on the big screen.

It's a fascinating look behind the scenes of this tense period where folks were forging new frontiers in the medium of television. The film is less than two hours, and I'm not sure it shouldn't have been a little longer giving a little more background on some of the names that were mentioned during the film. Everything you need to know is there, but even as someone who's read a good bit about this period, I will need to see the film repeated time to catch all of the references.

I can see why David Stathairn won Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival. He really does take on Murrow's television manner. Doesn't deal with his private life at all which did surprise me a bit (but that's not what the film is about).

I think I was among the youngest or second youngest person in the audience for today's matinee. (That should tell you the age of folks who take in the first matinees of these films; other folks, of course, are working.)

About five minutes before the movie started, two ladies probably in their 70s come in and sat down right next to me, not leaving a seat in between even though they could have. It didn't bother me, but I found it a bit strange that they weren't intimidated or shy to sit next to a man who might try to do who knows what during the film.

At one point, the lady right next to me snored loudly enough to start herself awake, and the lady next to her just chuckled. I didn't hear anyone else snoring around me. Sorry that she didn't find the film gripping enough to stay awake through it.

Good Afternoon!

-Picked up my mail.  -It was a lot, but not a LOT.  I managed to sort through it all while I was waiting for my car to be inspected.

-Got my car inspected.  Alas, it did not pass.  However, the repair is relatively cheap - around $150.  But since they weren't sure they could get the repair done by 6:00 (closing time), I just had them put the "rejection singer" on the car, and I'll take it back first thing in the morning to get it fixed.  Hopefully, it shouldn't take longer than two hours - and I have some reading and research to get done, so...

My favourite topic  "Woman In White". Not family friendly, not child friendly not anyone friendly  - unless you wish to sleep. It is DULL. Nothing much happens except so much projected scenery and a clever "Train Scene" (used before in "Whistle Down The Wind).
You don't care about the characters, the music is repetitive and not interesting, the lyrics for the "big ballad" are trite. The most boring night I have had in any theatre - professional or otherwise.
(All based on my experience with the London production).  "Aspects of Love" was ten times better.

and honset I think it is thatyou  have gone to so much troub;e to return to HSN their merchandise which they sent to you .  Other people might consider it their due for their inconvenience and keep it, or refuse to return it unil they had received their original completed  order

PS Are you feeling any better breathing wise?

I was raised to believe that anything that wasn't mine would ever bring me any pleasure.

HSN told me it would immediately send replacement pins and that I could contact them after I returned the unwanted items to recoup my shipping costs.  I had already told them I wanted to return the items.

As for my breathing...I'm among the ambulatory, but I have "dry" moments, and I have "stuffed-up" moments, and I have "free breathing" moments.

But I'm surviving.

Thanks very much for noticing my posts.  I attempt humor, but I'm not sure it always comes off that way.

That's MORE than I can say!  I've gotten confirmations on shipments of two items ordered late last week.

Oh, I would be SO angry if I had pre-ordered things months ago and had gotten no confirmation.

I wonder if they take the orders and let them pile up with newer order on top and thus they get filled first. Don't have a clue, of course, but just speculating why this has happened just like the frustration you suffered with CINDERELLA.

I like GEICO a lot too.  I've been with them since I became "insurable" when I started driving at 16.  In fact, I come from a GEICO family.

I have friends with other companies, and I do understand the appeal of developing a one-on-one relationship with an agent, but I've always wondered about the convenience factor.  I mean if something happens at an odd hour of the day, or on the weekend, or while your agent is on vacation... Well, then what?

The movie is letterboxed on the PBS station that I recorded it from, but I was disappointed it wasn't shown in high definition on one of the two PBS-HD channels offered here.

Edward R. Murrow did something in 1953 that had never been done before. He confronted a member of COngress openly on television, laid out his lies, half-truths, and misinformation for all to see, but he was breaking new ground and his own network was not exactly sure they should be doing what he was doing.

What agonies did he go through leading up to his famous broadcast (and afterward which did not receive 100% endorsements from the press and public)? Did he have a wife to discuss his fears, his hopes, his uncertainties with? Were his children (if there were any) harrassed about their father's position on issues or slurred at by their peers after McCarthy suggested that Murrow  had been connected with Communist activities and organizations that were fronts for Communist cells?

The only people we see him connected to at the hip were his work colleagues, and in particular, Fred Friendly (played by George Clooney). Were they the only people in his life he agonized with over what he was doing?

I think a glimpse at what was going on with the home front might have broadened our understanding of the man AND the journalist. If I had a criticism, it's that I wanted a more complete picture than simply that of a taciturn man with the weight of the word on his shoulders.

Agreed.  And that is without my seeing the current film.  But, as you noted, that would have made for a different film.

Let's continue on this.  Do you feel, as I've read others elsewhere have feared, that this film might be a political diatribe?  Or do you see it as an attempt as an accurate portrayal of a time and place that has since affected our political views?  (Or, of course, both?)
