I began my evening of viewing just as I said I would: with the episode of THE JUDY GARLAND SHOW that featured June Allyson. Judy was very hoarse the night of the taping, so her vocals aren't great. June was petrified to be in front of an audience though she did a cute dance to "The Doodle Song." The outtakes on the disc were lots of fun. Steve Allen dropped by for Judy's "Tea for Two" segment (she was expecting Roddy MacDowell and was shocked to see him there), and they had some clever banter. There was some sloppy dress rehearsal footage and an impromptu song by Mel Torme after the show had finished taping celebrating his 38th birthday. I've never been a huge fan of Mel Torme, but in that off the cuff song, he didn't seem to be trying for that "Velvet Fog" sound and just sang full out, and it's the most appealing I've ever seen him as a performer.
