It is evidently a new parlor game for today's youth to get people to click through to the YouTube video of Rick Astley singing "Never Gonna Give You Up."  It is called "Rick Rolling."

Even last year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade got "Rick Rolled" - complete with the real Rick Astley!

And last year's YouTube April Fool's joke involved Rick-Rolling.  All the featured videos on their homepage clicked through to "Never Gonna Give You Up".

*And, yes, there are some great/annoying Rick-Rolling "tricks" out there.  A friend of mine sent me one that required me to "Force Quit" Safari in order to make it stop.

LITTLE DORRIT continues to amaze, amuse, and move. What a bizarre assemblage of characters. The mystery of Mr Dorrit's incarceration continues and Mr Clennam's investigation into his family's crimes against Mr Dorrit continue. I recommend this highly.

DR Jose, Docks was a great Upper West Side location and I have no intention to schlep to 3rd and 40th for anything.

Have you checked out the new location of The Fatty Crab?

There's also The Mermaid Inn. They have a great lobster roll.

How is today different than any other day?

Today I was doing my DR JOSE imitation by suddenly playing for auditions!  I only had about 25, and two of those sang without accompaniment - or timing I might add.

I know we are doing KISS ME KATE, but why would someone choose to sing BIANCA, when he has obviously never heard it before?  He was singing from the chorus book and I was playing from the piano/conductor's score - but he wasn't singing what I was looking at.....oh well.  Of course we had "This Is My Beloved" and and wild tempo version of "Cockeyed Optimist" and a song from THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, and something like "He Was Nailed to the Cross" - which I think is perfect material for a musical audition.  I am thinking of using it myself.

...And did the two people who sang a cappella make sure that you knew that you knew that singing "a cappella" meant that they did not bother to prepare for their audition that you did not need to play for them?

;)

I am going to watch APRIL IN PARIS starring Miss Doris Day this evening.  I am hoping I can make it through Mr Ray Bolger's antics.....

I think Doris is terrific in this movie (I love the song "I'm Gonna Ring the Bell Tonight"), but I find Ray Bolger in this almost unbearable, and they make just about the worst romantic couple in the history of musicals.

I finished that last HAWAII FIVE-O episode. I kept waiting for the season's "comedy" episode, but they saved it for the season finale. Hume Cronyn had played a master of disguise the previous two seasons, and this season, it was almost the same thing but David Wayne was playing the part of the great imposter. It was an entertaining episode with a satisfying ending since he had made fools of Five-O for most of the show.

Some of those archive titles say MOD or MOD-EST - what does that mean?  I can't find a key on the WB page.

I asked the same thing days ago, but since no one reads my posts, ah, well....:)

MOD=Movie on Demand, I know that much, not sure what the EST is, unless these films are enrolled in The Forum.

MOD indicates that the title is a "Movie On Demand" available via purchase of a physical DVD that has been burned on-demand. A title may also be available via downloading and burning by the purchaser which makes it an EST "Electronic Sell-Thru". *This has come up in the discussions about the iTunes store selling DRM-free downloads.

HERE is an article that may or may not explain some of the legalities involved, as well as some of the player compatibility issues some people have been having with the discs.

Next, I watched THIS IS THE ARMY from the Warners Homefront Collection.

While the transfer isn't the greatest ever on DVD, it's certainly the best this film has EVER looked on home video. There was actually color and sharpness rather than bleached out, high contrast mush that was unviewable.

Enjoyed picking out people like Gene Nelson and Richard Reeves in small appearances.

Before I took the disc out of the player, I watched "Warner At War," the 45-minute documentary on the disc. It was very interesting to me.

The lively Dr. Drew Casper was not one of the talking heads in the documentary on Warner Bros. war efforts, but I noticed he did take part in the audio commentary for THIS IS THE ARMY. I just didn't take the time to listen to it tonight. Maybe someday.

I then watched the first hour of THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS on Blu-ray disc. Again, it is by far the best copy of the film I've ever owned. The Criterion, which was the only one I had on DVD, was nonanamorphic. What a marvelous thriller. Even though I've seen it numerous times and know what's gooing to happen every step of the way, it still can send chills down my spine.

If GIGI on Blu-ray at long last arrives tomorrow, that will be my work project. If not, I'll be watching Volume 3 of Disney Cartoon Shorts that features Mickey Mouse in THE PRINCE AND THE PAUPER and some Silly Symphonies that I'm sure have already appeared on DVD before.

The disc is only 55 minutes long, so it should not take up a great amount of time which ever day I finally get to it.

The Lambs Blu-Ray is a direct port of the last SE DVD and I've seen caps of both and the Blu-Ray is not THAT much better, save for the obvious bump in resolution - same exact HD master for both - and it looks GREAT on regular DVD.

Not having seen the DVD you're referring to, I have no opinion on the matter. I only said that the Blu-ray looked far superior to any version of LAMBS *I* had ever owned, and it does.

Well...

Since we move into the theatre this coming Friday, that means I need to finish the rest of my music edits - both in my score and on the computer - over the next few days.  Right now, my game plan is to head into the office each morning this week by 9:00. I'll work a few hours, then take a few hours break in the afternoon before the evening rehearsal begins.  So, if I seem a bit scarce over the next few days, that's why.

So...

To "aid" me in my game plan for this upcoming week, I plan on checking out some of the places in town that are known for their breakfasts.  I believe I will try the breakfast offerings at Hominy Grill tomorrow morning.  Later in the week: Charleston's Cafe - which happens to be just a few blocks from the theatre offices.  Apparently, some of the hotels downtown also serve up some decent morning meals.

I'm looking forward to some good biscuits and grits.

Well, if I want it to be seated at the Hominy Grill by 8:00... And since today's six-hour "clean up" rehearsal was a bit tiring.. Well...

Goodnight.

Thanks for the dog-lodging info, Jane.

Sounds like the Ritzy Canine in NYC, which we've never seen but sounds good.
