I envy those of you with Borders....

One of Betsy's favorites.  Sorry, I don't get the Colin Firth thing.

Yes, DR JMK - John Megna is Connie Stevens' half brother, they share a mother.

Evidently all the normal-looking genes were used up by the time John came along.  ;)

Someone is playing bagpipes in the distance as I sit in my upstairs office typing on the computer. Very unusual morning this!

I love the sound of bagpipes....

My mother's uncle had them played at his funeral a number of years ago...

I liked Kristin's song from ENCHANTED the most. But i also really enjoyed the song Amy Adams sang. Although i would have liked it if she had worn her princess costume from the movie.

I mean if she wasn't going to wear her Oscar dress, then i would have rather seen something more in character.

RE: helen mirren's dress.  It was just okay for me.

I loved the body of it. But those sleeves totally didn't look right to me with that dress color. It just looked like someone had created a dress and then was told that the woman didn't like her arms, and so they created that lace.

Bagpipes are best from a distance--they are REALLY loud up close.  ;)

What did people think of Nicole's necklace.  I thought it looked like someone had puked diamonds all over her.  ;)

I agree especially with the nature of the movie it came from...

Hmmmmmmm - Connie's parents were divorced when she was very young....  I was thinking maybe they were never married, but IMDB is never wrong.

Jessica Lange

I kept thinking of the scene in Thoroughly Modern Millie (the movie) when they're trying to get their beads to hang straight.

One last Oscar comment (and i'm only on page 29 from last night's posts so i haven't gotten to this point yet), but i was really happy they let that girl who won Best Song come back on to say something.

I don't know if it's a rule set it stone. But i hate when 2 people want to speak and they cut off the 2nd person before they've even said boo.

I get it if the first person takes a long time. But it just seemed to me like they were cutting off mikes after a very short time.

I prefer when they just play the music louder.

And to have all those unnecessary (although somewhat entertaining) past clips, when the winners cannot even speak for a minute ...

Well i was really happy jon stewart told that girl she could come back on stage. I had been particularly annoyed that she had not been allowed to say anything.

Okay i have to chime in. I loved nicole kidman's necklace.

Her dress was so simple that the necklace added sparkle!

obviously you would not normally wear something with that many diamonds.

But for the Oscars i thought it was great!

First Hitchcock movie for me was THE BIRDS. I saw it listed in the newpaper's tv listings when I was a kid and thought it was a musical. My mom would not allow me to watch it...so of course that made me really want to see it...and I did see it...and it was not a musical!  :o

DR FJL - Miss Annette's autobiography had some funny things in it....

She says people were always chiding her when she was out in public smoking (Larks).

Annette!!!  I didn't know you smoked cigarettes!!  You're America's darling!!

And she says she always replied:  And I have three children, so guess what else I do!

Those were diamonds (probably imitation, but "jewels" nonetheless), dear.

There were two necklaces, I think.  They were a bit much, but Oscar jewels can be "much."  It was far less objectionable than some dresses we've seen in the past, including virtually everthing Kim Basinger ever wore.
