Well, you've read the notes, the notes were written as if in a haze, though they didn't take days, and now it is time for you to post until the dazed cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PRETERMIT!
-
A Very Happy Birthday to Charles Pogue’s ever-lovin’ Julieanne (aka La Jolie Femme)! ;D
-
BK, thanks for the info on "Deceit!" I do have the DVD and showed it to a friend of mine who is part of TAO, and she said that I should "show it to someone." I'm going to send an e-mail to the guy who was going to direct "Misery" (after I find his e-mail address), because he will be the one looking for a new show to direct.

Rocco Landesman, the colorful theatrical producer and race-track aficionado who brought hits like “Big River,” “Angels in America” and “The Producers” to Broadway, has been nominated as the next chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts.

Great news on the new TV, BK!
-
Last night, I saw the national tour of Grease without American Idol's Taylor Hicks as the Teen Angel (he's not doing the first two preview performances). Let me say that the show didn't need him. I'm sure that he's fine (I never watched American Idol, so I'm not a fan). The performers were all very good, great energy, very good singers, good set, nice costumes, etc. Because I had a season ticket, I was able to upgrade my seat from the third row in the back of the balcony to the third row from the stage for only $20 more. It was definitely worth it. Being up close like that made what could've been just a fine (if otherwise unremarkable) show into a fine show...but just a lot more fun. I thoroughly enjoyed it. :D

It is now time for my beauty sleep. 8)
-
Good morning, all! Two of my checks finally cleared, so I have cash again. I slept quite poorly, and after a nightmare involving holy water, vampires and (I think) a football game, I awoke at 5:30 and was unable to go back to sleep. So, at 6:30 I bathed and I guess I'll buckle down to work for a while.
In today's schedule, I have trips to Staples, the post office and the market. God alone knows what fresh hell will show up.
Happy birthday to Mrs Pogue aka La Jolie Femme.

I guess it was only a matter of time, but the site Blue Gobo which features many clips from the Ed Sullivan Show (and others) has been asked by the company that owns the rights to the Ed Sullivan Show to remove them from the site.
He is in the process in doing so.
A shame, but I did get a chance to see many clips I wouldn't have had the chance to see.
But I did wonder how he was able to show all the clips from the Sullivan Show and Tony Awards. I guess he wasn't. I think it is just time until the Tony Award people ask him to take down their clips.

Good Evening! Good Morning!
As for my day in Tagaytay... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

And, yes, I did go zip-lining!
And so did my Auntie Odie!
Oh, and so did Monkey! ;D

Zip Lining!!!! Wow!

Happy Birthday to DR JULIEANNE POGUE, wife of DR CP, friend of June Wilkinson & Harlan Ellison.
-
Today many relatives are coming over for a visit....not my favorite day of the month.
-
Sorry to have been E & T its been a hectic few days
-
Samsung Big Screen LED....this is wonderful....I am sure it will be a revelation!
I have a Polaroid 37" LED television - no Blu-ray player YET. I hope you bought the service contract. My two year service contract saved me MUCH money when my television failed after one year and nine months.
-
Good morning DR VIX MOM.
Such great news and great pic from DR CILLA LIZ who is Chairman of Vice for Irrigation in Iowa....I think that's what the post said.
-
Reading Blithe Spirit which is most enjoyable!
My question for ASK BK day....my first question:
What is your favorite Noel Coward play/musical? Have you ever appeared in a production written by said Coward - even if it is NOT your favorite?
-
Now I have to do some shopping and get back before the driveway becomes FULL OF CARS.
-
Happy Birthday, JULIEANNE!
-
BK,
It sounds like you got the same Samsung TV I got for my man-cave here in Austin. After doing a lot of checking (Consumer Reports, etc.), it was a no brainer that this was, by far, the best set. Also got a Samsung home theatre (Blu-Ray player & surround sound).
-
And the word of the day is: PRETERMIT!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I FORGOT TO REMEMBER
-
Happy Birthday, Julieanne
-
And, yes, I did go zip-lining!
And so did my Auntie Odie!
Oh, and so did Monkey! ;D
Zip lining always looks like its fun--I've been wanting to do it since I saw it on the first ever episode of THE AMAZIN RACE.
I hope you took pics--or maybe video?

Good morning!
Another cool morning, but I can already feel it warming up. It will be a nice spring day here.

Am off....to see the dentist.

Blu-ray releases:
Yep, the sad fact is that classic films just haven't been big sellers in high definition, either on HD-DVD (when it was one for the competing formats) or Blu-ray. I saw some sales stats on classics like ROBIN HOOD and CASABLANCA, and they were VERY disheartening. So when something like AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, THE SAND PEBBLES, BONNIE AND CLYDE comes out on Blu-ray, it's indeed a time for rejoicing.

I found out late last night that I'm going to be reviewing that STAR TREK movie trilogy box. I have already watched two of the three films in the set, but there are hours and hours of bonus features, so I got the jump on that and spent some time this morning watching the first four items in the bonus section of STAR TERK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN.
At least now I know what I'll be spending all of today, tonight, and tomorrow on.
-
On TV Tonight! ™
CBS - comedies, CRIMINAL MINDS, CSI: NY
NBC - LAW & ORDER
ABC - LOST recap show, LOST (two hour season finale)
FOX - LIE TO ME (season finale), AMERICAN IDOL results
CW - AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL (season finale)
COM - RENO 911!
-
And, yes, I did go zip-lining!
And so did my Auntie Odie!
Oh, and so did Monkey! ;D
I envy all 3 of you!
-
Looks like the final two IDOL candidates is going to go down to the wire. I have to say I'm not surprised. No one went down in flames last night, so each guy's fan base was basically going to determine the final placement.
-
Well, I just found out that we'll be heading to Villa Escudero at 6:00am - just a little over seven hours from now... And since today was such a long day... And since I am a bit tuckered out from today's activities...
However...

Well, I've napped, been to Staples, and I guess I'm ready for my walk, the post office and the market.
The postman delivered my next novel, THE PRINCESS AND THE GOBLIN, a lesbian roman a clef based on the careers of Mary Martin and Jean Arthur.

Wednesday morning greetings from rainy SE Wisconsin! Richard is at the seminary attending alumni activities and will pick me up in a couple of hours to attend the luncheon. If it's not raining too hard, I may walk next door to do some shopping at Marshall's.

I knew she had planned a special day for me and my parents, but I truly had no idea just how wonderful it would be. She even pulled some strings and managed to get us into "The People's Park", which was supposed to be known as "The People's Palace" - it was built during the Marcos Regime - after the grounds had closed for the day. And she promised me that the next time I make it the Philippines that she and I would go ahead and take the boat to the Taal Volcano, and hike up to the Crater Lake there. Deal!
-
*And, yes, my Ate Odie turned 70-years old yesterday. She's living proof that "Beige don't age". ;)
-
DR Jose - thanks for sharing this special trip with us!

DR Jose - what a wonderful trip you're having!!

DR Jane - If you ever make it to the Philippines, I'm pretty sure you'd love the lunch at Sonya's Garden. They serve a set lunch/dinner. The first course is a salad. They set down a bowl of romaine lettuce, and a bowls filled with different toppings: apples, mangoes, soy nuts, jicama, chopped boiled eggs, etc. You compose your own salad. A basket of bread is also set down along with various dipping sauces and flavored oils. The entree is served the same way: a bowl of linguini, served with caponata, ratatouille, a cheese-sauce with chicken and mango, olives, capers. And the dessert consists of a slice of chocolate cake, turon (banana and jackfruit fritters), and caramelized sweet potatoes. To drink, the meal starts off with dalandan (green mandarin orange) juice, and finishes with a surprisingly refreshing cup of tarragon tea.
All the vegetables, herbs and spices are grown on the property; and all the breads and baked goods are also baked on the premises. *And the whole meal only cost P610 - or $13US!
-
And speaking of TAR...
When I was at the Cagsawa Ruins in Bicol, I noticed some banner for "The Amazing Race". -Did they head there in a past season? -Or is there another "Amazing Race" that could have been there?
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR LA JOLIE FEMME!!!!
-
Guess I'll head downstairs now to check the mail and then get an early start on lunch. Those STAR TREK bonus features aren't going to get done if I'm sitting upstairs.
WBBL.

Looks like the final two IDOL candidates is going to go down to the wire. I have to say I'm not surprised. No one went down in flames last night, so each guy's fan base was basically going to determine the final placement.
I guess anything can happen. But i just can't see it being anything but adam vs danny. As long as adam is in the finals i don't care. And i agree with what simon said. You can't assume anyone is safe (although with 3 left, would people really do that?).
-
Page Three Dance!!!
-
I actually liked the 2nd MEDIUM a lot more than this week's MENTALIST. I do like THE MENTALIST a lot. But i find some weeks are much stronger than others. I find i almost always love MEDIUM.
-
Tonight i will stay at my sister's house to watch the finale of ANTM. Then i'll come home and see who gets voted off of IDOL. I"m not sure if i'll be able to watch LOST. IS the first hour a total recap. Or is better to watch that before the finale?
-

Well, I wouldn't think so, but with Kara saying "you're in the finals" and Paula calling Adam "the American Idol" and Simon saying "You'll be in the finals," some people might have thought it was a certainty.

I don't remember them being there this season. But they've been to so many places in all the years!

Yep, the first hour is a recap. The guide said it was a new recap, but the description sounded an awful lot like the last recap that dealt with all of the time shifts this season.
-
I actually liked the 2nd MEDIUM a lot more than this week's MENTALIST. I do like THE MENTALIST a lot. But i find some weeks are much stronger than others. I find i almost always love MEDIUM.
Well, MEDIUM has had five years to get its act together. THE MENTALIST is a first year show still feeling out what it's going to be in terms of story, tone.

My question for ASK BK day....my first question:
What is your favorite Noel Coward play/musical? Have you ever appeared in a production written by said Coward - even if it is NOT your favorite?
I really like Blithe Spirit, Private Lives, and Tonight At 8:30. The only Coward I've done was directing a college production of The Red Peppers, and appearing in the musical of Blithe Spirit, High Spirits.

And What Blu-Ray Discs do you own? And Which one will Christen your Sparkling New Blu-Ray Player??
Knowing me, I'll do a potpourri of watching little bits of Black Narcissus (an import, but playable on all players), The Wild Bunch, The Professionals, Body Heat, Enchanted, etc.

I'm sorry to clutter ASK BK day with such a stupid question, but how do you control the size of your picture on this board? I read Rod Pulliam's instructions about choosing "Personalized Picture" but my picture isn't listed. I just want to make sure everyone knows how lovely I am. :D

Ask BK TOD:
By your notes and posts, it's obvious you love it all, but I was wondering of all the things you have done and do in the industry, what is your absolute favorite thing to do -- what is the most fun/creatively challenging/joy inducing -- like if you could only do one thing what would it be? (sitting at the piano composing a song, writing your books, writing a script, directing a movie, directing a musical, developing a cabaret show, acting, producing, etc., etc., etc.?)
And of all the things you've done, what was the most fun?
And of all the things you've done, what are you most proud of (your daughter is a given, I mean business/career wise)?

-
DR Amy I regret to say you can't make your avatar larger. So we can see how lovely you are post your photo at the regular size.
Amy, as Jane said, you can't enlarge your picture. There are some full size avatars in the picture file but they were there before the software upgrade. Any picture added after that point will not be full size no matter what you do. It's some technical glitch that can't be fixed without upgrading to completely new software. You joined the site after the software change so there is nothing to be done about picture size.
Sorry :-\
-
Bruce congratulations on your new Samsung LED!

I DO love it all - and each has their pleasures. I won't see it's always the most fun, but certainly the most creatively fulfilling is writing the books. There's just nothing like it, really. But I love directing, writing songs, producing albums.
Aside from the Darling Daughter, I think the my proudest moment creatively has been writing and actually finishing Benjamin Kritzer. I cannot tell you, hard as I might try, the feeling when I finished that book. I have never experienced anything like it.
-
Back from the long jog.
-
Can someone tell Amy about photo size?
-
Two people have answered her and it can't be done. She joined after the software upgrade and there is no way she can have a larger avatar. The large avatar were all in the system before the change. Anything added after is sized small and cannot be increased.
-
Thank you Ben and Jane! Well, you know what they say - you snooze, you lose. On the other hand, such a tiny picture won't show any wrinkles. :)
And, Ben, I think you were the one who explained the box-folding question, so thank you for that too.
-
DR Amy I wasn't joking about posting a large photo so we can see your lovely face.
-
I didn't think you were joking, Jane, but I'm at work now and all photos are on my home computer. The avatar photo is 11 years old anyway. I'll see what I can come up with tonight.

I believe we've gone over before that the new software doesn't support avatars of larger sizes. Those of us who have larger avatars had them in place before the software was changed.
Note: I see DRs Jane and Ben have already addressed the issue. Can't be done. At least not presently.

I went for a walk in the yard & this is what I saw.

So.....Wild Turkey just grows out in your yard, eh!??!
-
I watched last night's RESCUE ME while I ate lunch. Good episode with a good new plot line for Probies Sean and Mike.
-
Next I watched the remaining bonus features for STAR TREK II. Some new ones to the set were in HD, but most were older bonuses ported over from the Collector's Edition DVD sets.
-
Then, I started on the bonus features with STAR TREK III. I still have three featurettes to watch and then some stills galleries and storyboard galleries and a theatrical trailer, I think.
-
When I finish that, I'm going to see if I have enough time to squeeze in STAR TREK IV tonight before watching LOST around 9:30. If I don't have time to watch it tonight, I'll watch the bonus features for IV tonight and watch the movie tomorrow morning. I'd like to get the review up tomorrow if possible.

So.....Wild Turkey just grows out in your yard, eh!??!
Yup. We wish it weren't true & seeing 5 new ones didn't thrill us. It did, just the idea of more adults to chase away wasn't. The little ones were really cute. One had lagged behind & squealed while it ran to catch up. ;D
I didn't have my camera & got that photo off of the internet.

Reading Blithe Spirit which is most enjoyable!
My question for ASK BK day....my first question:
What is your favorite Noel Coward play/musical? Have you ever appeared in a production written by said Coward - even if it is NOT your favorite?
I am not BK, nor have I played him on television; but I will also answer the question -- Because I can!
My favorite Noel Coward play is PRESENT LAUGHTER.
I have appreared in HAY FEVER, BLITHE SPIRIT, and PRESENT LAUGHTER (which happens to be my favorite).
-
Called Fry's at ten to one and was told they were going somewhere before me but that they'd be here before four. I said that was not what I was told when I bought the TV - I was told that I'd be first on their run at one and that I didn't have time to sit here from one to four without a definite ETA. But, as it turned out, they were planning to come here first, so I'm hoping they'll be here momentarily - not by one, I'm guessing, since it's almost one-thirty, but soon. There's really very little for them to do - just unbox, put the TV on its stand and hook up the Blu-Ray player directly to the TV via HDMI cable. Everything else will be done next Tuesday by my usual wiring guy.
-
The avatar photo is 11 years old anyway. I'll see what I can come up with tonight.
Mine is about 30 years old.
-
How neat to have turkeys in your yard, Jane. I don't have anything that exciting.
-
DR Laura initially the turkeys were neat, now they just make a big mess & there are too many of them. The mother and her little ones are happily on the other side of the fence.
-
Nobody here but us chickens. I do hope these delivery people didn't say they were coming here first when they aren't - I do hope they understood what I was saying and not misunderstanding and thinking I understood that they'd be here before four. I do hope that or I will not be happy.
-
At six, I have to go finalize the last of the little fixes on the Kevin and Sean show. It shouldn't take more than fifteen minutes - he just wants to show me it's done.
-
Otherwise, I only want to be HERE, playing with my Blu-Ray discs and new TV.

I've read them all, including the one that was just released this spring. Love 'em, and want to find Patchin Place next time we're in NYC.
-
I just found out I'm also doing the BD STAR TREK movie set. Oy. I still haven't gotten the Poirots (9 feature length episodes). And I'm still finishing up two other reviews. So many movies, so little time. ;)
And happy birthday, Julianne. I still laugh about the day you and Pogue were communicating on HHW from different rooms of your house. ;)
-
DR Jose, I am happy to know that you have a good grip on your monkey.
-
And I am pretty sure there is a flying monkey in one of those Darna movies.
-
Ginny, so far I'm enjoying the book & expect I will eventually read them all. I haven't made it to Patchin Place yet. I've just recently arrived in the slums. ;D

I think on the last page he mentioned BLACK NARCISSUS, ENCHANTED, and some others I can't remember.
And so he did, "The Wild Bunch" and "Body Heat" among them. For some reason, I didn't make the association that they were Blu-ray.

And I am pretty sure there is a flying monkey in one of those Darna movies.
I know he's staying in city limits, but in some areas of the Philippines, the jungle and civilization coexist to such an extent that wild monkeys routinely invade homes and pilfer whatever they can.
I've rather enjoyed a mental picture I created of Monkey meeting one of those wild monkeys. But, alas....in Manila, it's unlikely to happen, I guess. :D

I'm up, I'm up... And I'm pretty sure I'll be napping during the two-ride to Villa Escudero this morning...

All right, I'll bite (into one of those Krispy Kremes!) -- do they taste like Krispy Kremes made in the U.S.?
I ask because of all the "name-brand" vendors that used to set up pierside when the carriers pulled into ports during WestPacs....not one of 'em ever tasted like the real thing (and I'm talkin' Pizza Hut, KFC, Wendy's, Popeye's, etc.)
-
Well... As for balut...
It didn't smell at all - at least not off-puttingly so. -I did learn last night that there is a version balut that is also salted and slightly preserved, now that stuff smells(!!!). Otherwise, good balut is prepared fresh - the ones that were brought over last night were still warm from being cooked.
As for the taste... It tasted like a hard-boiled egg and chicken. Really over-cooked egg and over-cooked chicken. It was the texture at times that got to me, if you get my drift.
'Nuff said.

Ya mean those soft bones not exactly "crunching"?
-
Yes, the Krispy Kremes taste like the real thing. They've been become quite popular here in the Philippines, and unlike Dunkin', they cost about the same as their American counterpart - almost $1.00 US per doughnut.

My HOUSE OF FLOWERS recording arrived today!
I will check the office tomorrow morning when I get in and perhaps mine will be there as well.
-
Well, I've napped, been to Staples, and I guess I'm ready for my walk, the post office and the market.
The postman delivered my next novel, THE PRINCESS AND THE GOBLIN, a lesbian roman a clef based on the careers of Mary Martin and Jean Arthur.
Who is the princess and who is the goblin?
And I always thought it was Mary Martin and Janet Gaynor. Why else would they move out to wilds of Brazil (with their husbands Gaynor's being Adrian) and live next door to each other? And eventually near each other in Palm Springs
-
When I was managing a temp service years ago, one of my temps was named Roman A. Clef. I was the only one who got it.
-

TV is here, installed, Blu-Ray player is working and images are pretty incredible, although VERY different-looking than standard DVD. I'm sure I'll have to play with the settings and stuff, but more later.
-
The Professionals looks absolutely incredible - there does seem to be a bit of blurring on really fast motion shots, sort of a digital thing - the TV comes with a standard setting for the 120hz funtion - I tried the "smooth" setting, but it didn't seem any different, but maybe I'll test that out with this disc and see if it makes any difference.

I onced used Norm DePloom on the old style bulletin boards

That is a problem and I think Matt Hough can explain it better. I think it is a combination of the television and what bit rate the blu ray is mastered at

Jose, I am so glad that you are having such an unforgettable time on your trip. And it must be extra special that you can share it with your parents. I wish I could have seen the zip line videos, but they just sat there on my screen like so much fish!
You make a great tour guide, even as an armchair tour guide. I will try to do half as well in November on my Italy cruise.

G'night!

A LATE ASK BK QUESTION
In Walter Willison's notes for the cd of Anya he writes: "Anyone who has the original LP is aware that the songs are numbered differently on the jacket from the label--complete titles are gone and new ones replaced them by the time teh actual LP was pressed"
I brought my copy of the LP back from Montreal and this is the first time I had a chance to look at it, but the song listings on the LP and the label are the same and they are the same order as on the cd release.
Did I get a rerelease where the made the corrections? (I find this hard to believe as the show was a bomb)
Do you have an explaination?
BTW the musical sources and the singers are supplied on the jacket.
-
Seems like everyone is having just too much fun today.
Really happy good moods.
-
I agree, Jose did have a really white knuckle grip on monkey.
-
See ya later.

Did somebody say Wild Turkey? - Liza Minnelli
-
Supposedly my dad gets to go home from the hospital tomarrow. I'm just going to shake my head if they let an 83 year old heart patient drive out of the parking lot. They did not think it weird that he drove there with congestive heart failure.
-
Wild Turkey, Janis Joplin.
-
Loved the ZIP videos.....and DR GINNY that video you posted was quite amazing!
Such a day at HHW. We had a good rehearsal and high winds and flooding - so this has been an interesting Wednesday evening.
I am watching UFO HUNTERS, and will eventually watch a nice yet to be chosen DVD.
Congrats to DR JOSE on his milestone and to MR BK on becoming a member of the LED/Blu Ray generation.

Criminal Minds tonight, yea.

Time for me to leave work and drop some empty boxes off at my sister's. She bought a new house (brand-spankin' new...she's the first owner) and will be moving in the next few weeks. It's only across town, so it's not too far away, but still, a move is a move and not too easy. Anyway, I'm outta here!
-
I've had a very busy night, and it's likely to be a long one, too, as I have much writing to do.
-
First, I finished up with the bonus features on STAR TREK III. I only had a few more to watch, so no problem there.
-
Since I finished with those around 6:35, I had plenty of time to watch STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME which I did.
Sad to say, the rumors about DNR are true; it is too smooth with details smoothed out. I remember my DVD having a grainy look. That is completely gone now.
-
Then, I started on the bonus features. I had about an hour before I needed to start watching LOST, and I managed to get eight of the featurettes watched. But there are at least 12 other listings that I'll have to get to tomorrow morning so I can get the review up mid morning tomorrow..
-
LOST had a very intriguing, mind numbing season finale. Surprises galore. Not quite sure what they all mean, but oh, boy, is season six, the final season, going to be something else! Wow! And wow! again!
-
I flew through AMERICAN IDOL - 58 minutes of filler and commercials to get to what we fans all wanted to know: who would be singing next week?
There was a bit of a surprise, but not completely unexpected. Should be very interesting to see how this all shakes out.
-
OK, I have a good bit of writing to do, so let me get to it. Then it's down to bed for a long day tomorrow.
Good night!

I have no idea what your LP is - the one I have has no singer credits and the wrong track listings.
-
I guess MattH didn't feel like addressing the issue I'm having.
-
I've been thinking that maybe the problem is the HDMI cable - the guy sold me a really cheap one, and I'm thinking that might have something to do with it, because I've been through the settings and nothing corrects the problem - it's not really terrible, but I want to make sure it's not something in the TV that's wrong, because if it were to be then I'd just return it and have a new one delivered, which I have thirty days to do. I may actually call Samsung tomorrow and see what they say - meantime I think I'll go get a more expensive and better HDMI cable.
