You and your sister look great, DR JRand!
Off to Columbus...Bye 'til tomorrow!
Whew! I did not realize Plan 9 From Outer Space is now available on a DVD that includes a COLORIZED version of the epic.... For some reason, the idea that PLAN 9 is colorized seems to me to be the perfect union of art and technology....
And the word of the day is: PERORATE!Casey would waltz
DR CILLA LIZ - thanks so much for posting the Magritte! LOL....I love that and am going to use it someday. 8)
Here is a photo of my sister Myrna and me from yesterday's festivities at Ye Owlde World of Wisdom.

Two Brain From Planet X questions
Can you post a cast list?
Is there poster designed yet or a logo you can post?

And can you tell us more and/or perhaps post the article you are writing for Frontiers since most of us will not get to read it>
TOD to ask BK: What songs will be featured on the next Guy Haines album?
But actually, I really don't want to know. Part of the joy of those CD's is discovering all these wonderful songs that Guy has unearthed, and hearing the new ones he has written with Mr. Kimmel.
So, I'd like to hear what songs other DR's would like to hear Guy sing. As I mentioned Oscar Levant yesterday, I was thinking how nice it would be to hear him sing "Blame it on my Youth". (Jamie Cullum recently resurrected this and does a lovely job.)
I'd also like to hear Guy sing "Stairway to Paradise", "Never Never Land" (from Peter Pan) and Randy Newman's "I Miss You".
Any other suggestions for a Guy Haines fantasy album?
Punkenstein and I watched THE ABOMINABLE DR. PHIBES last night on video. Turns out TCM was showing it last night too. Now I want to see the sequel. And I wonder if Vulnavia is in the sequel. The character Vulnavia is in Dr. Phibes Rises Again, but she is not played by the same actress. Valli Kemp takes over for Virginia North in the second film.
Question for Ask BK Day. In the notes, BK wrote:
"The problem with these endless workshops is that the invited audiences are invariably made up of friends, well-wishers, and cheerleaders, so of course the creators get marvelous “second coming” feedback."
My question for BK or anyone else, hopefully not rhetorical :) : Don't you think, though, that given that the readings and workshops have become essentially disguised backers auditions, the system has forced the creators to stack the audiences with friends and well-wishers, since the producer and money-type people who are there will think the show is a dud if reaction from the crowd isn't vocal?
Last week's promo for HEROES spoiled a moment that would have been a lot more surprising in the show had I not seen it in the promo.
What happened to vocal projection and voices trained to hit the back wall of the theatre?

Re: BK's rant--I guess we can move on to blaming Elmoore (an orchestrator) and give Jose a break! ;)
Ask BK: may have missed it whilst being E&T, but what do you think of the OCR of Grey Gardens? It's the first show in a long time I have played repeatedly, to increasing delight.
For those of you who love salsa music, I highly recommend the Contemporary Christian group (don't let that scare you--their lyrics are fairly innocuous) Salvador. Absolutely crackling charts with incredible horns!
Personally, I found Rises Again to be a disappointment after Abominable. However, it's worth seeing if simply to set you up for the much more delightful charms of a third film of similar premise, Theater of Blood, which pairs Price with the appealing Diana Rigg.
First post huzzah!
How did that happen?
Happily, I have worked with elmore since 1993 and he has never resorted to those kinds of cheap, sleazy orchestration tricks.
Not to appear too ignorant (but I guess I am!) but what are buttons? We use buttons sometimes on the end of promos---it's just a short little line or quip after the end logo. On a musical CD, is it a reprise of some sort?

I'm seeing Company tonight and Grey Gardens next Wednesday. I'm interested to see which songs are gone. I'm sure Revolutionary Costume for Today is still in because that was one of the most amazing second act opening numbers I have seen in a long, long time.

I dressed as a stressed-out editor yesterday. Nobody noticed...
Happily, I have worked with elmore since 1993 and he has never resorted to those kinds of cheap, sleazy orchestration tricks. And no one loves buttons more than I, and other CD producers now regularly emulate what I do on big buttons on CDs (not that they'd admit it), and basically musicals do to - since they didn't pre-1993 (when I began doing recordings), I'd like to think they ran with my little idea. They just ran too far and, as always, too much. It's okay to do it on one or two numbers, but when you do it on ALL the numbers, it just becomes crass.
Hey, JRand56, is that your kurta??
Nice seeing you and your sister, DR JRand. Thanks for sharing.
Cool pic of World of Wisdom, JRand. And it IS a cool bookstore. I urge anyone visiting central Indiana to see for themselves.
Charm, good sir, charm!

Sprinkle in the home or around a candle for the indented purpose.
Since so many musicals are based on films these days---even musical films!---it seems like "The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T" would be a perfect candidate.
Let's put on a show!
I have the requisite humilty and warmth of character to play

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR......
Humilty? ;D
Surely there must be an appropriate spell to regain control :)

BK, my question: Who did the back-up vocals on Guess Things Happen That Way...
I've plenty of leftover mushroom gravy saved. And there's oodles of noodles waiting to be cooked up.
This sounds like a casserole!
LOL...oh it's an ACQUIRED trait! 8)

If only I could contact Samantha Stephens! 8)
Back from a jog and must now do a few errands.
There is a musical version of Dr. T- it's had many readings and workshops over the last eight years, all to no avail. Can't remember who wrote the score, but I'm having this memory that the lyrics might be by the Sister Act guy - Glen Slater.
Composer-lyricist Glen Roven, an Emmy Award with a long career as a musical director and conductor as well as composer for theatre, film and television, including five major Walt Disney programs, has penned the music and lyrics, with Anthony Horowitz writing the book, based on Theodore Geisel's screenplay.
Our theatre has 195 seats, five rows - thrust stage...not one chair is 40 feet away from Center Stage....and yet there are people who will NOT speak up and be heard.
My husband wants me to ask y'all of any of you know Frank Scardino. He's involved in the Johnny Mercer doc and Greg figured you might know him...
Well, that was long, wasn't it?
Costumed Disney Workers Simulate Sex in Video
LOS ANGELES (Oct. 13) - The Walt Disney Co. on Thursday said it took "appropriate action" against employees at its Paris theme park who were caught simulating sex while dressed as Disney characters in a digital video that has received wide attention on the Internet.
Disney would not say whether it had dismissed any of the costumed employees featured in the grainy video, which appears to have been shot with a hidden camera at a backstage dressing room at Disneyland Resort Paris.
"The behavior shown on the video is unacceptable and inexcusable," Disney said in a statement.
"The video was taken in the backstage area not accessible to guests. Appropriate action has been taken to deal with the cast members involved."
The video shows Minnie Mouse struggling to free herself as she is grabbed from behind by Goofy and then a giant snowman.
Later, Mickey Mouse simulates sex with the snowman and Goofy does the same with either Chip or Dale, the chipmunks, as laughter is heard on the tape.
The tape is described on the Internet as the "Mouse Orgy."

DR RODSZINSKI - due to licensing problems or money arguments, the music on ALL the DR PHIBES vhs/DVD releases is different than the theatrical release.
Imagine the final image of the film being enacted while "Over the Rainbow" plays in the background.....I think that was the song.
Checking IMDB - that MAY have been corrected by now. :P
BK, I do have a question: how do I get the companion CDs fro the first two Kritzer books? I only have the one for KRITZERTIME, since I had purchased the first two books from Amazon.com before I joined the site. Are any still floating around?
I now have my Stapes, so I'd better work!
The man who gave piano lessons to the mother of Rosie O'Grady.
DR Elmore was discussing the talents of June Bronhill and Nellie Melba at about this time. We were at "Rosie O'Grady's".
From memory my first Disney recording is "Wringle Wrangle" from "Westward Ho The Wagons".
SECOND-FLOOR DUNGEON!!!
"Yes, I'm going Do-Mi-Do-ing in my Do-Mi-Do duds!"
Are you telling me they can't just use those lyrics?
I don't know if I have any of the pressed CDs left, I'll have to look- but if I don't, I can burn them for you.
Glen Roven/Glen Slater - at least I knew it was a Glen.
Jewelry department...leg chains, neck chains, etcetera....
Coon-skin caps were NOT worn in Australia.
Yesterday's mail (No - not yesterday's male) brought a copy of "Mouse Tracks - the Story of Walt Disney Records" I'm sure it will be informative and enjoyable reading.
Included in the acknowledgements in the book is the name of a Frenchman known to us all at HHW.
The gererous and well-informed François - sometime HHW expert in things "Mouse".
From memory my first Disney recording is "Wringle Wrangle" from "Westward Ho The Wagons".
Now if we can only find an elmore toast!
they cut 11 whole musical numbers and re-shot for one whole week.
Hans Conreid on THE 5,000 FINGERS OF DR. T, in an interview with Leonard Maltin in "The Real Stars," 1973.
DR EDISAURAUS - if ONLY they had done FINGERS instead of SEUSSICAL....I am not a FAN of that show.
I see that Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillppe are splitting. I think some people here on HHW will be glad to see that Ryan is available again.
Anyone else see Ms Minnelli on L & O: CI last night.
1) She must have worked down on her face or they were using the Lucille Ball Mame filters on her. Or way too much makeup
2) She is way too old to be playing a mother of a 12 year old.
3) And has she always talked if she was drunk? And if so how can one tell when she was really drunk or stoned?
My favorite line from a political ad is "Remember, it's a secret ballot, you're friends won't know you voted for me."
DR EDISAURUS - in answer to your DH's question....NO, the generation now in High School and College are NOT being taught projection....they are being turned into RADIO performers.
Our theatre has 195 seats, five rows - thrust stage...not one chair is 40 feet away from Center Stage....and yet there are people who will NOT speak up and be heard.
I see that Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillppe are splitting....
Was that non photo taken when I was sitting next to you at THE SINGING NON?
So, George...are you saying that the same man that came between Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe has also come between Reese and Ryan?
That would make him a major cad!
Damn that Oscar anyway...!!!!
(Although the popular story is that the non-Oscared spouses are consumed by jealousy and/or feeling emasculated -- look at what happened to Alex Baldwin after Kim won her supporting Oscar....and then ask yourself what, exactly, has happened to or for Kim since then, as well).
Next came LAW & ORDER: CI. Liza Minnelli gave a touching and subdued performance as the mother of a slain child actress (based on you-knpw-who). Matt McGrath also gave a memorable performance in this episode.
BK - Did you meet Glenn Slater last night?
I've often felt that the revue he wrote with Stephen Weiner called NEWYORKERS (it was at Manhattan Theatre Club in 2001 right after TIME AND AGAIN, and even IIRC used TIME AND AGAIN's basic set) would make a lovely and even economical CD, and it's only 6 actors. I'm surprised it was never recorded.
Shayne, I don't know enough about myspace to do it - now, if some enterprising hainsie/kimlet wanted to try...
Jrand, I prefer Miss Mansfield.
Back from a fun rehearsal - did the two major act one Kevin/Lauren scenes and songs - grand fun.
Is the Kevin that is going to be in BRAIN - the Kevin Spirtas?
I see that Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillppe are splitting. I think some people here on HHW will be glad to see that Ryan is available again.
I am not sure I have ever seen the words subdued and Liza Minnelli in the same sentence.
I will be glad when this stupid election is over. I am tired of them calling on the phone and disturbing my peace. Grrrr. It happens eight or so times every day.
I meant MBarnum but typed JRand. You'd think doing a show about a Brain would have some effect.
Please hold very good health vibes and thoughts for DP Kerry's mother. She is having a few challenges at the moment.
