They have announced the cast for Martha Stewart's Apprentice:

http://www.realitytvworld.com/index/articles/story.php?s=3671

Are any of you planning on watching this?

I'll probably try to watch the first few episodes and see how it goes.  I actually like "The Apprentice," but I've never really watched any of the clones.  The closest was "Situation Comedy" and I've only seen a few episodes of that...and not for a couple of weeks.

Hmmm, DR Jane, no i don't think the food gets overcooked (unless i leave it on too long).  But i guess that is a good way to tell if i am cooking it too high. thanks.

The problem with cooking something like chicken on high is that the outside will be overcooked and the inside will be raw.  A slower and lower temp will allow it to cook all the way through and still be moist. It takes a little longer, but tastes a lot better.

Also lean meats should be cooked slower at a  lower temperature....that's the mantra....slower and lower.....LOL

Thanks for the suggestion, DRs JOSE and MATTH - I will probably just get a new receiver.  If I can find one with the WIRE speaker connections in the back, rather than the plugs!  Thank you, Emerson Radio Electronics.

LUV with Cindy Williams & Bruce Kimmel would be a great selling point, I am thinking!

Thanks for the Walty photos DRTPUNK.  DEEE-lightful.

Of the other clips on BROADWAY'S LOST TREAURES III from the last two acts of the presentation, the only ones I didn't already have in my collection of Tony recordings were the Zero Mostel's tiny bit of "Comedy Tonight" and the Ethel Merman tribute to herself.

I must say that the station that I recorded this off of was not coming in very clearly last night, and the quality of the show was such that I won't be saving it to an erasable DVD. It's going to be shown on other PBS stations this week, and I'll try again to get a decent recording I can transfer.

Last year the DVD was released in either late September or October, so it really shouldn't be that long to wait to get the commercial release.

Most receivers now have connections that will take either plugs or bare wire. Mine certainly does.

Right now, my plans for tonight are to put in the tape of SAN FRANCISCO to watch. I didn't get any packages in the mail today, so that should work out fine. It's less than 2 hours so I should have time to see it and be able to see Lisa Kudrow's THE COMEBACK at 9.

Rhymes with Vogue....

Quote
Synthesizer Innovator Robert A. Moog Dies
Monday, August 22, 2005

RALEIGH, N.C.  — Robert A. Moog , whose self-named synthesizers turned electric currents into sound, revolutionizing music in the 1960s and opening the wave that became electronica, has died. He was 71.

Moog died Sunday at his home in Asheville, according to his company's Web site. An inoperable brain tumor had been detected in April.

A childhood interest in the theremin, one of the first electronic musical instruments, would lead Moog to a create a career and business that tied the name Moog as tightly to synthesizers as the name Les Paul is to electric guitars.

Despite traveling in circles that included jet-setting rockers, he always considered himself a technician.

"I'm an engineer. I see myself as a toolmaker and the musicians are my customers," he said in 2000. "They use the tools."

The arrival of the synthesizer came as just as the Beatles and other musicians started seeking ways to fuse psychedelic-drug experiences with their art. The Beatles used a Moog synthesizer on their 1969 album "Abbey Road"; a Moog was used to create an eerie sound on the soundtrack to the 1971 film "A Clockwork Orange."

Keyboardist Walter (later Wendy) Carlos demonstrated the range of Moog's synthesizer by recording the hit album "Switched-On Bach" in 1968 using only the new instrument instead of an orchestra.

Among the other classics using a Moog: the Who's "Won't Get Fooled Again," and Stevie Wonder's urban epic "Living for the City."

But the now-pervasive synthesizer's ability to mimic strings, horns, and percussion has also threatened some musicians.

In 2004, musicians extracted a promise from the Opera Company of Brooklyn to never again use an advanced kind of synthesizer, called a virtual orchestra machine, in future productions.

Opera Company of Brooklyn should take a page from Susan Strohman's play book and use all pre-recorded music - see what the unions think of that!

For barbecuing chicken, I prefer to put my sauce-coated chicken in the over for about 35-45 minutes at 325-degrees.

I then transfer it, freshly sauced, to the grill over grey coals.  I cover it for about 10 minutes, and then turn it and cover again.  I test with a toothpick...easy insertion and clear juices indicate the chicken is done.

Since 9 was just under four hours away when you posted this, I'd say you should be able to just squeak that movie in.

In San Francisco, folks want to know if you're a Tony or a Jeannette.

If you're a Tony, your favorite SF song is "I Left My Heart in San Francisco."

If you're a Jeannette, it's "San Francisco".

I have long preferred the latter, but I admit a partiality to the former as well.

I wonder how many of our dear readers ever had a Tonette!!!???

Back from a nice lunch.  Whilst there I ran into my pals Karen Morrow and Billy Barnes.  We had a nice little chat.

And now - Dino at the piano.

I'd never heard of it until I got the CD, "Dixie Carter Sings John Wallowitch Live at the Carlyle."  It's a lyric in one of his songs...but I can't remember which, off the top of my head.

Well, I'm drunk.  Very tipsy right now after two margaritas with DRJose.

We finished the GOLDEN APPLE band parts around 3:15, and Jack Parton the librarian of the American Symphony Orchestra (and relative of Dolly) took Jose and me to lunch.  I had  fantastic baked ham with brie, greens  and honey mustard or a French roll, and I have no idea what DRJose had!

Anmyway, we taxied uptown and I bought Jose a drink for helping us out today.  I'm home trying to sober up and he's off for some Beard Papa creampuffs.

I got two exciting things in the mail: a check worth a bit of moola and a lovely (?) card from DRMichael Barnum.  Now I'm going to lie down.

And the quintessential performance was at The Gilden Cage by Charles Pierce as Jeanette - he sang the number while soaring far over the audience in a velvet swing!

How generous - they sell for over a Grand!

If you were raised in neigborhoods with homes constructed in the nineteenth century you would have come across all sorts of devices to make up for the lack of closets.

Rural visits also acquainted you with devices used to compensate for the lack of in door plumbing!
