Well, you've read the notes, Colonel Fielding read the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the colonel cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OBSTREPEROUS!
-
First post after BK.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
BK, what is the British ending of the film? And why would anyone want to change that ending?
-
Hello, George.
-
Well, I looked up the DVD for Invaders from Mars on Amazon and copies can be had for as little as $39.99! However, eBay has a couple of (legitimate ::) ) copies for around $20 or so. Since I have a laserdisc player, I bought a like-new laserdisc copy from eBay for $16.40. It should arrive in about two weeks.
-
BK, what is the British ending of the film? And why would anyone want to change that ending?
SPOILER ALERT - in the Brit version, it's not a dream.

SPOILER ALERT - in the Brit version, it's not a dream.
But that was what made the film so incredible?

Darn. I haven't seen it yet.
-
I'll probably forget that bit of tid by the time I actually get the laserdisc, so not a problem. :)
-
Good night and have a good day, all!

I agree! It doesn't work at all the other way.
-
All this talk of mashed potatoes has me hankerin' for some...
...mashed potatoes.
-
Funny, that.
-
I wonder if Colonel Fielding knows Colonel Sanders.
-
Colonel Sanders knows from mashed potatoes.
-
And, as bk's close personal friend Stephen Sondheim says, "Remember."
-
Pepperidge Farm remembers.
-
In every way. So they say.
-
It's Friday morning, early. Time to take down the recycling.
-
Good morning, all!
-
I still remember a few of the nightmares after seeing Invaders from Mars around 1956 or so. I haven't seen it since.
-
Today, whether I want to or not, I must make that pharmacy trek. The temperature is supposed to go back up to 60F today, so I am happy to venture out.
-
DR George, Aristophanes' plays are neither sequels nor prequels, although if more existed, scholars might change their minds. All were satirical or political comedies about aspects of Athenian life and the endless Peloponnesian War, and my favorite remains the bawdy, obscene, anti-war Lysistrata. So The Birds, like Peace, The Clouds, The Wasps and others are not related to The Frogs.
Now, Vaughan Williams composed music for an Oxford production of The Wasps, which he turned into a concert suite, and Braunfels' opera The Birds was first performed in 1920. It has nothing to do with Sondheim.
-
And Al Carmines wrote an off-off-Broadway musical of Peace.

Today I am seriously thinking about taking Stella to the ACC and giving her up. She just climbed onto the bookcase n ext to my computer table and brought down a shelf of books onto the table, breaking my printer in the process. This is the second she's destroyed, and I'm too infirm and in too much pain to deal with moving furniture and cleaning the mess. She's very lucky I couldn't get to my cane when all hell broke loose because I fear I might have beaten her to a pulp.
I am not happy at the moment.
-
I am sorry, DR elmore3003.
-
The original poster asked for a 3-word caption. My submission was: "Dole Whip Don't."
-
Let's move on, as DR John G. would say...
-
TWO!
-
Good morning, all.
-
Time for a nap.
-
Vibes for Elmore and Stella.
-
So apparently Christmas is on but New Year's Eve is cancelled here. People are allowed to gather (up to 10 people) on Dec 24, 25, 26, 27. But no office parties and no New Year's Eve. Everything else (restaurants, gyms, movie theatres, bars) stay closed till January 11th. I actually don't really care about any of those four things (as take out is still open and i was not comfortable eating in a restaurant anyways). But I am not thrilled about not being able to go in my sister's house. I feel like many people are probably doing what they want while trying to be careful. It's going to get so cold between now and January 11th. So visiting outside is not super practical. :(
Although for some reason it is supposed to be 60F today. yet our first snowstorm (of only maybe 2 inches) is scheduled for Sunday. Yeah for today. Not happy about the possibility of snow.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Vibes for DR ELMORE & Stella.
-
My cousin called about half an hour ago and said that her mom decided that since they were going to spend the morning at the doctor's office - they probably shouldn't come over.
I wasn't sad......and didn't suggest an alternative....... So I don't have to worry about company today! Hurray!
-
I loved INVADERS FROM MARS - saw it first on the Friday Night Late Show....on Channel 8.
We lived in the country and there was a hill and a fence very similar to the one in the movie.....so I kept my eye on it for a long time.
I loved finally seeing it in color a few decades later.
-
It's always nice to be reminded of Invaders from Mars. And how rage inducing it is to be likewise reminded of Wade Williams and his deluded views of the corner of the world he inhabits.
The one brief period he was active on the HTF while I've been there, things started civilly but tense, and it quickly went south. It didn't take long for the proceedings to deteriorate thanks to his manner of communication and his twisted ideas on how the responsibilities of film preservation and restoration function in the real world. He ran people's patience and good will right into the ground before the conversation could get anywhere, then he got back into his carriage and huffed.
Having previously heard about the guy and his ways from BK and people like Bob Furmanek, it is nonetheless mind-blowingly infuriating to come face to face with the man and his words.
-
Huge vibes for DR Elmore and Stella.
-
Jane, I’m finishing The Midnight Library first. In fact, I’m almost at the end.
The Connelly novel is good, and people will love it, but it may be too fast and furious for my mood this week.
-
Good Morning! Last day of work before Thanksgiving break.
Then the real work begins!
-
DR Matthew, when is your official moving day?
-
I've been to the pharmacy and back. Stella and I are keeping a distance.
-
Well, it's tough to resist Stella's paw taps.
-

I didn't really think that they were related, but thanks for the info...very informative. :)
-
I did see a local production of a locally adapted version of Lysistrata, but I don't remember if I noticed at the time that Aristophanes had written it.

The Midnight Library was perfect for my mood during these times. I look forward to the Connelly book once it arrives.

I have been on hold with See's Candy for a good while. I am trying to find out why a tin of Toffee-ettes was delivered today. It say to me and from me on the box label but nothing is inside.

I am sorry you can't be with your nieces. Is this because there will already be 10 people there? Is it possible for you to have a smaller gathering, on a different day, with just you?

Larry I think you should call them about Stella. As difficult as it, is she probably needs a home where she can run more and get more exercise then she does with you. It is possible you can be considered a foster while they find a home for her. Talk to them and see what they say. There also might be other cat rescue groups that take in fosters and can help you.
-
Waiting for a meeting to start.
-
I'm up, I'm up - got up at noon after eight hours of sleep and have been catching up ever since.
-

??? So? Do you have to send them back??

Or did Keith secretly send them to you?
-
And now, since we're so close...

3hree!!!

Sorry maybe I explained it wrong. Yes I could see them on those 4 days (if we decide it's safe). I meant for all of the other days between now and January 11th.
-
I like DR Jane's suggestions about DC Stella.

Mystery solved once I found out the address of the sender because there didn't seem a name, except for mine. to go with the order. They were a gift from good friends which is why I recognized the address.
The nice woman helping me was concerned she gave away a secret, and maybe an address. I assured her all was good and the speed at which I recognized the address proved I knew them :)
-
DR Jane has a secret admirer, apparently!
-
Or did Keith secretly send them to you?
No way. He wants me to eat less candy, not more.
-
I’ll take candy.
-
Logging off with glee. The last two hours have been frustrating, to say the least.
-
Logging off with glee.
Would you call that a glexit?

TOD
Tomorrow’s epic is Mephisto, a German movie equating the Third Reich with Satan.

I suspected I wasn't understanding this. It seems to me that you would be considered part of your sister's family. Your strict rules are probably why Canada, except for poor Manitoba, is faring much better than the US which is the "greatest" country in the world.
-
I like DR Jane's suggestions about DC Stella.
Thanks.
-
DR Jane has a secret admirer, apparently!
I am very proud of my sleuthing abilities ;)
-
We have achieved weekend in these here parts.
-
Back from the mail place and no food. Will now have to wait until five, which is irritating, as the Zoom rehearsals should have been done by four-thirty but I have two breaks of thirty minutes each because no one ever can do consecutive times.
-
I find I have two copies of that Barber set - six CDs - so if anyone here would like to have it, it's only $20 plus shipping - the set is still sealed.
-
If I didn't already have it, I would take you up on that!

Oui.
-
I'll take the Barber set. Sounds good.
How much is the postage?
-
Donny Jr. has covid. Just going to leave that there and move on.
-
Hello, everyone.
-
I've been doing a bit of quarantining of sorts for the past two weeks. I had a cold, which passed quickly, but left me with a cough and feeling fatigued. I doubt that it was Covid, but I couldn't see my doctor and didn't feel like doing much, so I stayed home. The cough is almost gone now, so I won't be persona non grata.
-
I did go out yesterday for a haircut. The salon was very busy at one point. I think many people are expecting hair salons to have to shut down again soon. I stopped for some groceries on the way home. It felt like such an outing after being in so much!
-
DR Elmore, have you spoken to the vet about Stella? She may know of something that would calm her down a bit.
-
The original poster asked for a 3-word caption. My submission was: "Dole Whip Don't."
I am very glad I did NOT see THAT yesterday!
-
Jennifer, sorry you can't see your family as much as you'd like. Cold weather certainly makes distancing more difficult.
I liked your idea of a book club with your niece. Do you do Zoom (or other) visits with them?
-
TTFN.
-
Off to a socially distanced, outdoor birthday party. Thankfully the weather's warm.
-
But first ...
-
Four!

He will be fine. They all seem to be fine.

That's great your cough is almost gone. Vibes it does not linger. May you soon be back to normal.
-
With all of the precautions we are taking how does anyone catch a cold ;)

Today I had my second haircut since the salons opened back up. We were spaced very far apart from each other. This was my first hair washing at the salon and my hairdresser covered my face with a towel, extra protection for both of us, while I was at the sink. It was actually very relaxing.

I forgot to ask what the book was.

JohnG postage is 7.50

Well, I must be off. I usually leave on Fridays to play cards at my mom's, but that's not happening tonight, so I'll just go and have one of the many frozen dinners that my mom bought for my dad and she doesn't want. Good enough for me. :)
Until later. But before I go...
-
Gratuitous Post #100!
And NOW I'm off!
-
Really enjoyed the Schreker opera Irrelohe. Now listening to Tchaikovsky's opera, Pique Dame - it's okay, but not loving it. I did get a Hansel and Gretel CD today but it's the one in English so I'll hold it until I've heard the one that's coming on Sunday.
-
Hello
-
We’re going to have thanksgiving at my mom’s
-
Just 3 of us
-
We’ll FaceTime or Skype or zoom or FB video call or something with the Vixter and Vixhubby
-
Just 3 of us
I got scared for a second. I am relieved it will just be three of you.
-
DR Matthew, when is your official moving day?
I pick up the keys on Tuesday and planning on moving on Friday!!!
-
I had planned to get a turkey breast but the prices were ridiculous
-
I ended up getting a small turkey for about a quarter of the price of a breast
-
Mom likes to make turkey soup so she can use the legs for that and we’ll have plenty of leftovers for both households
-
I may join some friends in the evening on Thanksgiving. We've been hanging out together since this thing began, so I consider them part of my bubble. My families plans pretty much disintegrated quickly, so there will be no family time. I'll probably just finish up around here and head out in the evening.
-
The rest of the meal will be peas, turnips, stuffing, cranberry sauce, cauliflower, roasted new potatoes and , baked sweet potatoes
-
My boss buys two pies from a local farm for everyone in the office for Thanksgiving
-
We get to choose our own pues
-
Although I was seriously drawn to the pumpkin custard and chocolate cream pies I chose the raspberry peach and blueberry instead
-
Neither Vixdad or my Mom like chocolate cream or pumpkin pie
-
I, other the hand, could easily devour both
-
Which won’t assist with my goal to become a smaller woman
-
Look! It's the latest Honda Achord!
-
They have closed the NYC schools so my sister in law doesn’t have to trek into a Manhattan every day anymore
-
I sympathize with you, DR vixmom...
When the holiday is about eating and family, and the pandemic takes out the family part...
-
Well, we can still give thanks for eating.
-
We get to choose our own pues
Choosing pues is really fun at the holidays.
-
Look! It's the latest Honda Achord!
Duly noted.
-
The birthday party was fun. We sat outside in our socially distanced spaces and had barbecued brisket, ribs and sausage with some nice sides. There was a delicious birthday cake. It was more of a roll with strawberries at the center and whipped cream for frosting.
-
But the true highlight of the evening was when Gail's sister pulled out this year's eggnog. It was outrageously good. Then she served a little of last year's eggnog, which had been in the freezer for the past year. It was even better. I'm going to dream of that eggnog.
-
The recipe is really easy, but I sort of lose focus after the first few ingredients: Take a fifth of bourbon and a fifth of rum ...
-
There's also a 5-pound bag of sugar, a gallon of heavy cream and a dozen eggs in there. The nutmeg is freshly grated on the top.
-
Which won’t assist with my goal to become a smaller woman
Best to take the pies you will eat less of. I would like to try the pumpkin custard.
-
That poor Honda.
-
Well, we can still give thanks for eating.
I don't think we will do any special eating for Thanksgiving.
-

The frozen one was ven better :o. Was it a different recipe?
-
I really don’t want to have to go to the supermarket this weekend, but I wanna make a cranberry chess pie.
-

I guess it is the same recipe.
-
Not a different recipe, but everything blended together better after a year. It was smooth, oh so smooth.
-

Maybe it is the cream that makes the frozen version better. My sour cream cake and cookies are great when frozen.

I don't blame you for not wanting to go, I hope we can avoided.

I’ll take candy.
I can make that happen.
-
Good night, all.
-

I hope that two pies will be enough for you and your co-workers.

Hi, Tom.

I have been on hold with See's Candy for a good while. I am trying to find out why a tin of Toffee-ettes was delivered today. It say to me and from me on the box label but nothing is inside.
I thought you meant there were no toffee-Estes In the box.

Hello, George.

Good evening.

I don’t think I ever had egg nog with booze in it.
-
One more post.

I figured that out — eventually!
