Greetings George!
And the word of the day is: DIPLOPIA!
Good morning DR LAURA....the leaves are taking their time here, but you shall have some photos when they begin to turn to Technicolor.
I had the strangest dream last night. There was an after-hours HHW gathering in DR Cillaliz's basement rumpus room. I know DR Miss Karen was there, but the rest is rather hazy.
I'm really glad Cilla decided not to use a shotgun to get the kleenex box off of her kitty's head!
Ping pong balls in an empty bathtub with a couple of kittens...also fun!
And The Song Of The Day Is: LOSING MY MIND
The truth is, when I got up this morning, my eyeglass frames fell apart! So I was sitting here quinting at the screen and barely got some posts in. I've got them taped together well enough to drive over to an optical store to see what they can do.
As for the Topic to of the Day..
"Misery"
and
"Misery"
*Although, I do have to say I was sort of disappointed that the "hobbling" that took place in the book, was not the same as the "hobbling" that took place in the movie.
Thanks, DR JRand57!
And thanks, DR Jane. Yep, glasses fixed - with no charge! :)
And, DR Jeanne, just finished Strangers on a Train. I now understand so much more! :) Loved it, and especially AJH with the double bass!
Time to call and wish Keith's mother a happy 86th birthday.
SANDRA,
How did the interviews go?
Were you able to work"prawfsblawgger" into the conversation at all? Or your plate-eating skills?
I had the opportunity to slip the plate-eating thing in there. I didn't, though.
Congratulations to Keith's Mother at 86.
My Mother lived to be 99 1/2 . With All her wits about her. Quite an accomplishment.
DR Sandra-CONGRATULATIONS, I think, on the new job! :)
I think I got the job at the board game store. The guy said, "I would be inclined to offer you a positon," and then he told me to be there Monday morning with two forms of ID and whatever I need for taxes.
Did I get the job or not?
Time to call and wish Keith's mother a happy 86th birthday.
Here is a picture I took of Richard Valley and Bruce at the recording session of Jeepers Creepers

Richard is on the left
Yes, there was a musical version of Carrie and it ranks as one of the biggest bombs in Broadway history. I didn't see it but I have been regaled with stories about the show. It began in London and the divine Barbara Cook played the Mother. She, wisely as I've heard, left the show before it came to Broadway. I have heard there is an ootleg bay opicay ideovay floating around New York.
I know I should know this, but who is on the right? :-\Horror host, Zacherly, isn't it?
I'll admit it...I've got a bootleg CD. ;) And I'm pretty sure I got it on eBay! I got it years ago, when anyone could get anything. I once bid $75 on a recording of Follies that was supposed to be the complete show from the soundboard, but I got outbid...fortunately.
I know I should know this, but who is on the right? :-\

BK - I think there's a NYMF micromusical out there about "Restless Leg syndrome." Or so i hear.
The audience for the taping of Legally Blonde was recruited and did not pay. The orchestra section people had to wear pink, and, most importantly, not be over a certain age. Pre-show, they were DIRECTED to scream and scream loudly. Even so, the sweetening even in the five minutes I saw, was really obvious.
I find when things are going haywire that chocolate is a very good thing to have in my life
cillaliz-
Whatever happened to nice niece Samantha?

Oh, and I meant to mention yesterday that "Poltergeist" is one of my all-time favorite movies. It's one of the few movies that I saw in a theatre more than once - at least three times.
I blame the Mercury retrograde
My favorite film adaptation of his work, the one that comes closest to capturing the novel and yet works as a film is The Dead Zone, one of my favorite films and one of my two favorite Cronenberg movies.
And re: the flu shot. I'm not sure if i will get one this year. IT seems like often times when i get one i then get flu like symptoms right after.
DR Cillaliz that is very cool about the clown from TAR. When you mentioned the soup it reminded me that everyone here is sick too. It's like we are on our second round of getting this crap. Ughh! :(

I have never seen Carrie & don't have an interest in doing so. If Keith turned it on I would be a good sport and watch it. I might even like it. ;D
Not even in my most sadistic mood would I ever ask you to watch Carrie! (It's a great film, but not for the squeamish.)
And, of course, ALL the commercials.
They sure destroyed any rhythm the show might have!

What happened to Cason's avatar? Who took it?
ABBATOIR - that's the name of my next show, so that it can be at the top of all alphabetical listings.
It was much better being there than watching it on TV
I know that a lot of people really like Kubrick's THE SHINING, but it just doesn't work for me. Bottom line: Jack Nicholson doesn't work for me.
BK - I think there's a NYMF micromusical out there about "Restless Leg syndrome." Or so i hear.
I am very glad that no one reads my posts anyway. Almost nine hours after originally posting my Stephen King favorites, I reread my post and found that I had listed the wrong book and television film as my favorite. I do indeed like THE DEAD ZONE, both as a book and as a film; but it was THE STAND that actually ranks as my all-time favorite King. It was done as a six or eight-hour television miniseries. It is one of the rare DVDs that I watch on a regular basis.I've not read this post either. I like to be consistent.
That is very strange about Cason's avatar. Why would it suddenly vanish into a little red X.
Ditto, ditto, ditto! The movie would have worked better if Kubrick had a more faithful adaptation to the book. There were a number of choices he made that Stephen King was apparently unhappy with. One I remember was that Kubrick asked King what the most scary element was in the story, and he said "the boiler". Kubrick immediately responded that he was going to take that out. I thought, "What an arrogant jerk!"
Hitchcock should have made this movie, IMHO!
TOD - Never have been a big Stephen King fan. I did read a library copy of The Shining before taking it to DR Elmore when he was recovering from surgery about 30 years ago. Not long ago, I read Misery when I was contemplating auditioning for the Kathy Bates role in a local production, but realized that community theatre and my work schedule would not mix.
See, TCB, I read your posts!
And you know, TCB also stands for THEN CAME BRONSON. (One my favorite shows that may never be released on DVD.)
There are several nice photos of you from NY. I'm sure one of them will make a good new avatar. I'm very sorry you need a new one.
Maybe Heather got custody of the avatar!
DR Ginny, it was 31 years ago! Did you look for an extra phone book?
How about one of our talented DR's create a new avatar for Cason. There were enough nice photos of him posted recently. ;)(http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL242/891350/17076261/283174146.jpg)
Will a July 2005 edition do?
If only I could sew, I just found some beautiful satin brushed back fabrics for sale.
DR Cillaliz - I sincerely hope you're not coming down with what DR Vixmom and I have had. Even though I feel much better, my cough is still pretty annoying.
I did a little research & I guess "allergic" is too strong a reaction. The definition is :
Systemic Reactions, which usually begin 6-12 hours after getting the flu shot, last for only 1 or 2 days, and can include fever, malaise (not feeling good), and muscle aches.
I "love" the part about last ONLY 1 or 2 days. I can you those two days aren't much fun.
Yes! Can you put it into the post on Monday? I'll reimburse you when I get back to Ohio.
Tonight I'll either watch or record LIFE (which DR Ron raved about the other day) and, of course, there's another new episode of TORCHWOOD I'm eager to watch.
Hello, Angela! Sorry I missed you.
Well, I didn't eat anything healthy tonight...I went to the office to take a book shelf and picture to hang on the wall. I goofed around there until about 8:30 PM, and decided to just get french fries and a diet coke on the way home. It did get the taste from the bad chicken soup out of my mouth.
Where is a plump Levain when you need one?

Has anyone actually seen the new DVD of Cruising? Worth watching?

derBrucer, you are the only person I know (besides myself) that can make a plain old cookie sound obscene!
Maybe Heather got custody of the avatar!
Has anyone actually seen the new DVD of Cruising? Worth watching?Yes. and yes, as DR MattH points out in a previous post.
The first thing of interest on the dvd of CRUISING, released yesterday, is the absence of the studio-enforced disclaimer at the start.
Just before CRUISING, Richard Cox was co-starring with Alexis Smith in the Broadway-bound musical, PLATINUM.
It's funny that I have gone from one extreme to the other regarding CRUISING.
When I saw it on opening day, I was disgruntled and livid to see the disclaimer at the start, which naturally didn't allow me to enjoy the film for just what it is: a nightmarish journey through the underbelly of the s & m scene of New York city in the days before AIDS, NOT a murder mystery.
As its title also suggests, the film is a voyage (the tugboat opening and closing shots reinforce this) in to the dark reaches of Al Pacino's character -whom I'm certain does commit the final murder. It is a bleak look at a not altogether likable character, one who is not the "hero," but an edgy, nervy character wiling to go to any extremes to achieve his goal. Forbes wants to be a detective, and he's willing to be hog-tied in a seedy hotel room, engage in gay sex with a total stranger (who could be a murderer) if that is what it takes to get his detective's badge. That he, more than likely acts in a Wildean ("Each man kills the thing he loves) manner certainly doesn't earn him audience empathy - nor should it.
As the years have passed, and having had access to a softly focused panned and scanned videotape, my appreciation for CRUISING grew with each successive viewing; the jigsaw puzzle-like flowing of one scene to the next (is there really a true time scale going on here?), the deft, though bloody, handling of each successive(?) killing, the mystery which is truly an enigma - or a MacGuffin, the monochromatic cinematography which truly brings out the verdant greens as well as the sanguine, copious blood and Al Pacino's brave, believable performance have all grown richer through the years
Though flawed, I find that CRUISING holds up well and would make a fascinating double bill with Ken Russell's CRIMES OF PASSION.
I still find it highly flawed, but definitely under appreciated.
I should mention, anecdotally speaking, that on a trip to New York city with two of my female ROCKY HORROR cronies, they insisted on me giving them a CRUISING tour, taking in all the sights in the West Village which had featured prominently in the film. Only one was disappointed NOT to find Powers Booth selling handkerchiefs in the tiny store.
Maybe everything I've been attributing to stress and all that jazz hasn't just been that - about five hours ago I started having chills and aches and, as I said earlier, tummy turmoil. Could it be the flu?

What happened to Cason's avatar? Who took it?
I have been thinking about it and I have to say I still loved Legally Blonde even on TV. It brings back a lot of things I went through in law school and in the beginning of my career. I wish I had been more of a Elle Woods back then. I think it has a great positive message to girls and women, it's a positive strong message about being true to yourself, working hard, becoming who you are and what you can be on your own etc. I'm glad I have it on my DVR so I can watch it again and skip the commercials. It was much better in person, but it was still very inspiring to me.
WILD ELEPHANT STAMPEDE DESTROYS INDIAN VILLAGE
GAUHATI, India — About 100 wild elephants have converged on a river island in northeast India, demolishing homes, feasting on sugarcane and panicking residents, officials said Saturday.
Thousands of villagers were using firecrackers and bonfires to scare away the rampaging animals.
"Dozens of houses have been destroyed in the past three days by adult elephants entering human settlements to look for their wandering calves," said the local magistrate, L.S. Changsan.
...
I had some nice hot EmergenC and that was very soothing and nauseating at the same time.
I had two home-cooked burgers.
I don't think avatar's are part of the photo cache - I'm certain of it. Very chilled right now and very achy.
bk - It sounds like you're just stressed out. As much as I know you'd hate to do it, and probably have to play catch up later, I suggest canceling what you can, and just taking some time for yourself. Sleep, lie on the couch watching DVDs, or enjoying your pool. -And stick to a bland diet for a day or two.
So... For dinner, I just ended up sampling things from the various food vendors: Thai Chicken Satay, Dominican Empanadas, Japanese Bubble Tea, and a Brazilan Churro. :)
The Vatican Secret Archives is publishing 799 copies of a document that was found in 2001 after being lost for centuries. Replicas cost $8,333
...And are those girls from "The Hills" really that famous?
Any cooks out there?
I was watching Dinner Impossible on the Food Network, and became curious of a cooking method I had never heard of -- boiling veggies in carbonated water. What's the outcome? Is it used for taste or color retention? Sorry, I'm a curious one!
I have yet to see "the Hills" and haven't turned on MTV since the early 80's.
I must be old -- doesn't MTV only play music videos? LOL
Don't forget that the medicine you take has the potential side effect of compulsive gambling!
Good, I can finally put some cans of tonic to good use. I was shopping for club soda and came home with tonic.
Nope! Tonic is not just carbonated water - it had quinine added which would give anything cooked in it a stange and unattractive taste.

I'm not sneezing, don't have a sore throat or anything, just the chills, achy body, and this wretched cough (which is really bad today because I simply cannot take deep breaths without launching into a horrid coughing fit. But enough about me - will we never get to page thirteen.
Oy gevalt!
Sorry for my recent E&T...
Lots of things a-changin'. I guess it's that time of year.
Soooo, let's recap:
*Me and the Ever-Lovin' Heather are no more.
*I've been bumped up into the producer's chair for the LACCTAA benefit (cue "The Producers" score...)
*I'm filling out college applications.
Boy, when you're embroiled in those three things, it seems like a lot more than when you just type it out.
Coincidentally, my left foot is killing me right now.
WERNER VON TRAPP OF 'SOUND OF MUSIC' FAME DEAD AT 91
MONTPELIER, Vt. — Werner von Trapp, a member of the musical family made famous by the 1965 movie "The Sound of Music," has died, his family said. He was 91.
"The Sound of Music" was based loosely on a 1949 book by his stepmother, Maria von Trapp, who died in 1987. It tells the story of an Austrian woman who married a widower with seven children and teaches them music.
Born in 1915 in Zell am See, Austria, von Trapp was the fourth child and second son of Captain Georg von Trapp and his first wife, Agathe Whitehead. In the movie "The Sound of Music," Werner von Trapp was depicted by the character named Kurt.
Sorry. Done
Might delete this one or we'll be answering questions for days.

Although, DR DerBrucer, if you'd like to go ahead and credit that quote to yourself, well, that would be a totally different matter. ;)
Where we draw a line bad-taste-wise is interesting. People who might make a joke about a death might very well refrain from making a joke abouit a disability.
I was hooked on "Golden Years" before the plug was pulled.

When I got in my car to go for coffee this morning I looked down and the odometer said 22222. I thought that was pretty cool
