Well, you've read the notes, the notes were big and scored, and now it is time for you to post until the big cows come home.

As I was saying...

Earlier tonight, my friend/host, David, and I attended a special event at The Publican here in Chicago. It was a book release party/dinner, signing and reading for Gabrielle Hamilton's new memoir, "Blood, Bones & Butter.

It was truly one of the best culinary experiences I've ever, well, experienced. From making the reservation to claiming my coat at coat-check, it could not have been a more pleasant and perfect experience.

Great Beer and Wine. Great Food. Great Service. An ideal setting. And, most importantly, Great People. There were over 150 people in attendance, and it was like everyone in the room had known each other for years. I don't think I've ever walked into a restaurant before that immediately struck me with a sense of community... Until earlier tonight. Even the staff managed to sustain an air of friendliness while being attentive and professional.

I got to talk to the gentleman who raised the lamb that was being featured during the dinner. I talked to the restaurant's "beer master". Patron after patron walked up to me and my friend, David, to introduce themselves, shake hands and ask "Where are you from? What brought you here?". -And we even ended up sitting next to the couple who run Moveable Feast. They cater special events for Oprah and Harpo Studios, and their "Deeply Fudgy Brownies" were one of "Oprah's Favorite Things". *They asked David and myself for our business cards - "You'll have a box of brownies waiting for you when you get back to NYC." :)

The Food - and I've been posting the menu over the past couple of posts - was wonderful. I could have made a whole meal out of just the salad alone and left completely satisfied and happy. And our server, Tim, even brought me out a second serving of the dessert:

Croissaint Bread Pudding with Rhubarb, and Brown Butter Ice Cream.

And the restaurant itself was a total WOW! Even the bathrooms and wash sink were beautiful!

It really was a great evening.

And...

Chef Gabrielle Hamilton not only signed the menu for my friend, David, but she even asked to rub my hair/head! -And I let her!

As for the Topic of the Day...

The only thing coming to my mind right now is "Jason and the Argonauts".

And "The Poseidon Adventure".

I'm using the new laptop and have been for a few days.

It works very well but the one thing I can't do is get the turntable and Audacity to work together. Thankfully, I decided when I bought the laptop to get the high end version of Windows 7 which has an XP mode. I fired that up and Audacity works fine. Anthony will be able to continue his little business of transferring records and tapes to CDs.

Now I just have to wait for the desktop to arrive (tentatively Wednesday). I'm seeing High with Kathleen Turner that night so I will have to wait to set up the machine.

Good morning, all! This crisis of yesterday continues in this morning's emails. I am tired of responding with "get an attorney who deals in recordings to negotiate your contract since you don't seem to have much of a grasp on what things mean in legalese." Instead, the response is more pissing and moaning. Pick up the phone and call someone who can clarify things.

No, you wanna conga!

I feel I'm dancing on a precipice with all the work I've been doing and, since I feel this could all crash due to a well-intentioned amateur, I don't know how to proceed. I don't want to go back to the California job with its insanity and I'm not sure I want to keep the one I'm currently involved in, so I'm between rocks and hard places.

Constructively, i am doing laundry.

More coffee.

Peter Pan
Pirates of the Caribbean (No 1 only - stop the franchise!)
The Crimson Pirate, which I've not seen in years
The Pirates of Penzance (bad film, great score, better in Central Park)

I like sea adventures, especially when they star Mr Flynn or Mr Power....

The Black Swan is probably my favorite since it also features Mr Laird Cregar

Captain Blood is also most entertaining

Hmm... It appears you have use the current Audacity Beta version with Windows 7, and not the 1.2.6 "stable" version.

Daisy Eagan

I'm sort of surprised that she and/or they made no mention of that Bravo reality/documentary series she was featured in that focused on actors trying to get their careers going. Although, since the series only lasted a season, well...

The laundry is finished and the kitchen and bathroom mopped. When the floors are dry, I'll put the laundry away and decide what to do with my day. I think I will continue tallying the EILEEN scores until further notice.  I do believe around noon I will head to the NYPL for more research on some writers I need to discuss.

I'm also waiting to speak to the producer of the Herbert recordings about her thoughts on what's going on in Bryn Mawr.

Oh, we tried the latest version. We tried every version. It's frustrating but since we can get it to work in XP mode I'm not going to play around anymore.

I think I'll save the NYPL for tomorrow. I have my physical exam at 10:30, so I'll head to the NYPL after that. Today, I'll try to finish up the EILEEN tally.

I spoke to the record producer; we agree we have Trouble with a T and that rhymes with B and that stands for Bryn Mawr. She's got some thoughts and I'm going to continue what needs to be done before I make any decision regarding staying or going.
