Well, you've read the notes, the notes were perfunctorily perfuntory, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they'll be here as soon as they find a new vibe.

And the word of the day is: JACTITATION!
-
Welcome sixteen GUESTS. PARTAY! LIMBO!

NY-QUIL!

Will we never get to page two?

Eventually! :)

My first job out of school was as a bank teller for approximately $10,000 per year.
-
I hope you feel much improved today, bk!

Only one more week until my follow up visit with the bone doctor. So, I only have more week of having a 5000 pound leg or hopping around or hurting or being at all inconvenienced. Right?
-
Nothing can be more lonley or solitary than pain. I don't need to tell most of you that, though! :-\
-
And the word of the day is: JACTITATION!
And The Song Of The Day Is: JUST YOU WAIT
-
Good morning. That is all.
-
Good morning, all! I have a meeting at Toyland this morning, perhaps laundry in the afternoon, and then a bit of socializing with DR Jose.
Last night, in my continuing mission to see the complete oeuvre of John Schlesinger, I watched HONKY TONK FREEWAY. I have to drag out the bio now and see what it says about the film beynd what a flop it was. It seemed a very messy, but very funny, film to me, NASHVILLE without the brilliance, so I'd be curious to know how much was studio interference, etc. I have to call Celia Weston about it; I don't recall ever seeing her looking so young in a film. I also wish I'd seen the film before 2000 so I could have asked Deborah Rush about it when I worked with her at Williamstown.
-
Sorry, DR TCB, forgot to respond to your post yesterday.
The photo is from a production called Working Man's Clothes. Obviously, he needs to work some more, as he's hardly wearing any.
-
Just checking in.
The thing about pain seems to be that no one understands that you're going through it unless you specificially tell them - over and over.
-
My foot pain is obviously nothing compared to what others are going through, and it seems to lessen as the day goes on.
-
Good morning, Bruce! Hope you're feeling better soon.
For pure entertainment musical, I'd have to go with the much-reviled revival of "On The Town" in Central Park, as much because of the circumstances of the day as the show itself. I was in a miserable part-time job, and was becoming disenchanted with my graduate school program. I was accompanied by a dear friend's dear friend, a striking tall Irish lass who willingly became my "arm candy" for that summer. It was a perfect evening. We had sushi at a kosher place that closed down far too quickly (I had a great rapport with the sushi chef; when I came in, he'd ask how much I wanted to spend that day, and prepare what he thought was the best of the day). Walking into the Delacorte, and seeing the bridge set lit up against the backdrop of Central Park, we both just said "wow." I wasn't at all familiar with the score before, and Bernstein's opening notes had me jumping out of my seat. Lea DeLaria, Mary Testa, and company were absolutely sensational, and if the choreography wasn't memorable, I didn't particularly care. Pure bliss, and I caught the show twice more during its brief Broadway run, standing outside the cavernous Gershwin theater in the freezing cold for rush tickets in its last week. I would later have one of my Playbills autographed by Comden & Green when I saw them at Joe's Pub (another treasured memory; anyone who doubted that theater can do miracles only needed to see how the two of them shed 40 years each when they came on stage, and unfortunately, how quickly they regained them when they left.) Close second: the Irish rep revival of "Finian's Rainbow," which caused me to petition the Oxford English Dictionary to re-define the adjective form of the word "sublime"
Most magical play: a production of Shakespeare's "Cymbeline" at the Pearl Theatre in the East Village (circa 1995). Shep Sobel's minimalist vision (a trunk a la the Fantasticks, strips of cloth representing uniforms worn by different sides, and a 10-member ensemble performing full war scenes) was just magical. I saw it five or six times (plus a few half-times from the wings) when I interned there, and I have not seen Shakespeare as wonderfully done since.
-
Monday morning greetings! Today would ordinarily be my day off for the week, but I changed it to tomorrow in order to guest-lecture at the University of Dayton this afternoon.
-
(((((Kerry and FJL)))))
I hope your pain can get under control.

BK, in the daily column:
the critically lauded Bend and Snap
This got me googling. I can't find any review lauding ye olde Bend and Snap. Some liked Mr. and Mrs. Andy Karl. Which reminds me that in certain circles (hell, a lot of them), I'm referred to as Joy Dewing's husband - and am called Noel Dewing. When Andy Karl experiences the same (and his wife, too, is more famous than he is), what's he called, just plain Andy?
-
For pure fun, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, that rare entertainment in which each and every song, each and every scene, is laugh-out-loud funny. I got to see it with Robert Morse, Rudy Vallee, and a leading lady with an unforgettable name: Penny Worth. Because he refused to take credit, it's sometimes forgotten that the choreography (for all but the "intentionally bad" number) was by Bob Fosse.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up.... And is this a slow newsday at HHW? ;)
-
TOD - you mean other than The Brain from Planet X, Such Good Friends, and The Last Starfighter week before last ;) ?
I've had many magical experiences in the audience for musicals:
My first professional production - the touring Music Man at Detroit's Riviera Theatre when I was 9
My first Broadway show - Cabaret original cast in 1967
But the one that really stands out is the Oklahoma! revival, which I saw with DR Elmore at NYC's Palace Theatre in the summer of 1980. My previous experience of that show had been the movie and an awful community theatre production, so to see it on Broadway with a perfect cast and a high-quality production was awesome.
-
TOD
That would be a tough choice. Definately seeing HELLO, DOLLY! with the all-Black cast starring Pearl Bailey and Cab Calloway. I know some people don't care for the show, and some people only know it from the movie; but to me it is sheer magic. No great messages delivered; just pure joy, pure fun, incredible dancing, and a score to keep you humming for days.
-
Good morning!
I've had the plumber here most of the morning. I had a huge clog in the mainline, and it took awhile for the equipment to get it. Now, a bit poorer but with toilets that flush, clothes washers that drain, and a shower that not only spits out water but also takes it away, I can be a normal human again.
I have to say it was a scary thing when you can't drain dirty water from out of your house.
-
Thanks for the foot vibes!
-
In the same frame of mind as DR TCB, I choose MAME as the most pure entertainment I have ever seen - on Broadway or on any other stage.
(I'm assuming that Sondheim masterpieces such as SWEENEY TODD and FOLLIES are considered more than just purely entertaining.)
-
As for the Topic of the Day... Hmm...
I guess it depends upon what you mean by "entertaining", so... Off the top of my head, the following come to mind...
Pacific Overtures at the Kennedy Center back in 2002. This was the production from the New National Theatre of Japan that also played NYC for a few weeks earlier that summer. I was totally engrossed and engaged the whole time. The story-telling was so clear, that there were times when it was just easier to follow the actors faces than to read the surtitles. (Although, I do believe being familiar with the piece beforehand also helped.) I literally left the theatre trembling and out of breath. Powerful stuff.
The Who's Tommy - Except for the slow stretch in the second act, this was another electric evening in the theatre for me. -Well, I ended up seeing it three or four times, so... It's still my favorite staged overture/prologue - the best use of stage fog and trap doors, simple but very effective. And that's when my crush on Jonathan Dokuchitz started. ;)
Wicked - The first time I saw this show there were times when I literally found myself on the edge of my seat with a big ole smile across my face. The woman sitting next to me even asked me at intermission how many times I had seen the show before since I seemed so into it. I told her it was my first time, and I don't think she believed me. Steve and I had come up to NYC for a few days of theatre-going, and I had arranged for house seats for all the shows we were seeing that week. So, great seats, good show (with the original cast, and no understudies on that night), and a great date who was also enjoying the show as much as I was.
-
Thanks for the foot vibes!
And how is your foot today, Fred? Better I hope.
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]~~~~~FOOT VIBES~~~~~[/move][/b]

I spent all morning as I waited for the plumber and as he worked watching more NCIS. I am halfway through the last episode, but I'll have to watch it again since it has a commentary track with the producer of the show. I will be done with the set by the end of the afternoon, and then I can start on MEET THE ROBINSONS or the Blu-ray of THE INVISIBLE. Actually, I'll have to do the latter first since it comes out in stores tomorrow.
-
And I have a full slate of TV shows on tonight.
-
Page Two Dumbledore and Ron Dance!!!

From Bruce:
Why did people remove posts?
They weren’t relevant anymore.
Are you feeling better?
-
TCB - It was excruciating when I woke up but right now I can hobble almost (but not quite) pain-free. Perhaps it's the Advil that's helping, perhaps just getting acclimated to activity for the day.
-
Only one more week until my follow up visit with the bone doctor. So, I only have more week of having a 5000 pound leg or hopping around or hurting or being at all inconvenienced. Right?
I hope so, at least that the pain will have greatly lessoned.
Good spirits vibes to you!
-
As for a play or plays...
When I was in high school, our class took a trip to Baltimore to see a production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. I don't remember which company produced it or even what theatre it was in, but I remember smiling and laughing a lot. -And the Clown even moon-walked!
More recently, I'd have to say the Broadway production of Take Me Out. The show was about so much more than the shower scenes. Denis O'Hare was a wonder to behold. There were times when I forgot that he was just playing a character, that he was acting - it was such a natural, unforced performance. And at the stage door after the show, I was able to thank him for a truly transformative night in the theatre.
-
FJL, I also find my foot improves in the mornings as I use it. I think it gets more flexible. What did you do to your foot.
Speedy healing vibes for whatever is causing the problem.

Oh.. From yesterday...
I believe my first tax-paying paying job was my first summer working at Coast Guard Headquarters as a summer-hire between my freshman and sophomore years in college. I believe I made $4.35/hour, plus an hour or two of sick and annual leave each pay period (two weeks). I was a GS-1. And what was nice was that each summer we returned, we were automatically given a GS-Level raise. By my last summer there, I was a GS-4, and I was earning almost a full day of annual and sick leave each pay period, so come the end of the summer, I was able to take off the last week using my sick pay (they allowed that for the summer hires if we got our work down), then I'd get a nice little check a few weeks later for the annual leave I did not use. :)
-
Good morning, everyone.
BK, KERRY, FRED, GINNY, and the missing VIXMOM,
I hope you all feel better soon!
-
Jose, how is Jason doing?
-
Hmm... Now that I think of it, I think I started working at the CG HQ during my high school summers. Yep - I believe I started between my junior and senior year - I remember now having to get a Work Permit since I was not 16 yet - and then continued through my first two years in college. I think. I'm amazed at how much a blur that all is to me. Hmm...
-
I worked for the phone company one summer in college. I was paid $1.90/hr. I had jobs during high school, too, but don't recall the exact wage. It was less than $1.90, though; $1.90 was considered a good wage then.
-
TOD: Without a doubt, the OBC of Pippin, which simply blew me away from start to finish as a kid on my first stay in NYC. For you longtime RATM-ers, remember when John Rubinstein used to hang out there (I didn't know it at the time, but he was also my nephews' soccer coach in L.A., believe it or don't). We were all posting about Pippin, and a thread developed where people were talking about the characters calling each other by their real names. I posted that I seemed to remember some of the actors calling each other by their real names (which I really, truly think happened that night, maybe it was an accident--but I clearly remember Rubinstein and Clayburgh sitting on the lip of the stage and Jill called him John at one point), and John posted a long, insistent rant that that had never happened. Taught me that all kinds of people (ooh, a Bacharach & David reference) read this stuff and y'all had better be careful. :o
-
Will be awaiting news on Sandra's first day at her--we think--new job.
-
Jose, how is Jason doing?
Jason is doing well. Busy as usual. I haven't seen him in a week or so, so he must be busy right now. With the threat of the lockout, he's been on pins and needles wondering if he'll be unemployed for a day or two or three. Otherwise, no news is good news, but he did start his Actor's Equity Association paperwork the other week, so... :)

RE last night's question - my first paying job was in-their-home day care for 2 neighborhood kids whose parents both worked outside the home. I made $15/week.
In grad school, I had my first paying library job in the Library Science Library. The hourly rate was $1.90, but I took a lot of weekend hours to get the supervisory rate of $2.10.
-
Looks like I am the only one around these hear parts who did not see LEGALLY BLONDE last night...instead I watched the 1957 film 18 AND ANXIOUS which starred Mary Webster, William Campbell, my interviewee Ron Hagerthy, and my want-to-be interviewee Jacqueline Loughrey (Miss USA 1952). Pretty good film.
Today I think I may watch a Friday the Wonder Dog double feature...ROOKIE COP and THE HIDDEN EYE. How's that for entertainment!

Regarding yesterdays Bi-Mart posts, I worked for a short time at the Bi-Mart in Ashland back in 1983. I then moved to Salem and worked at the Lancaster Dr. Bi-Mart for 13 years. Over those years I worked as a cashier, then clerked in Hardware, Toys, Photo and Sound, Housewares, Drug and Sundries, the front counter, receiving, and the last 5 years worked in the pharmacy.
The only department I did not officially work was Sporting Goods...however, while I was a clerk in Toys I did cover the Sporting Goods counter from time to time.

I didn't see Legally Blonde, either.

By "entertaining" I mean a show or musical that had nothing on its mind other than to entertain, but one that did so with great craft and intelligence - i.e. Guys and Dolls and the already-mentioned How To Succeed. I'd add Promises, Promises to that pile.
-
Noel, I remember Off The Wall very well - I probably saw you there.

I got about nine and a half hours of great sleep. In fact, I was awakened by the doorbell ringing at ten - it was dear reader Cason coming to our meeting. I bought the COMPANY revival CD, the MARY POPPINS 2-disc special edition Soundtrack CD (the Sherman Brothers songs are so perfectly placed in the film, I have always been astonished how lovely and fun the album/cd is to listen to on its own), a book about Alexander the Great, and a book about I Ching.

This might sound dumb. But BK in order to find out what is wrong with you maybe you should go see your doctor.

It is pouring here & chilly 52 degrees. I hope it eases up before I take Sherlock to his training class.

I began my afternoon by finishing NCIS, and though it was mildly entertaining and with some very ingratiating characters, I was glad to be finished with it, but most of all because of the shoddy nature of the transfers. To have to sit through six discs of soft, fuzzy, grainy TV shows was akin to torture.

DR Matt H.: I liked your original spelling better. I like to imagine that your lunch outings are louche. ;)

I was so eager to see a DVD that looked good that I put in a disc from the BONES - Season 2 set just to watch for fun. I stupidly picked disc 6 which had only one episode on it - the season finale which I had watched in HD just a few weeks ago before the new season began.
Still, very entertaining, and it looked BEAUTIFUL compared to those awful NCIS transfers.

Good Afternoon!
I ended up meeting my friend, Billy, for lunch at Virgil's BBQ in Times Square. Decent food and lots of it - I should have stopped after the "appetizer" of biscuits with honey butter, but the beef brisket was rather tasty too.
After lunch, I wandered down 45th Street and checked out a new take-out spot called "FreeFoods". Alas, nothing was "free" price-wise, and nothing was exactly fat-free or calorie-free either. However, if I'm remembering the write-ups on the place, I believe the "free" refers to the fact that the ingredients are organic (pesticide free) and sustainable, and quick-to-serve.
I had one of their oat cookies with bits of dried mango in it. Quite tasty. I think the next time I head back there, I will give their Chocolate Hibiscus Pistachio Brownie a try.
-
After making a stop at the bank, I headed on up to Central Park for a nice walk. The morning clouds had parted, and the sun came out - it actually got a little warm. I walked up to around 72nd Street, then walked across the Park to Central Park West to catch the B train back uptown. A truly wonderful fall afternoon.

NCIS is one of the handful of TV programs that DH Richard and I watch together on a regular basis. Even I usually figure out the mystery, but we like the characters and the humor.

I shall be E&T tonight. I have to go to a business dinner with a client. We're going to an Italian restaurant called Campagnolla on 74th & 1st. Have you ever heard of it, DR JoseSPiano?
Looking at the menu, the Veal Parmesan is a cool $42. And salad is extra!
I think I stopped in for drinks there once. IIRC, it's one of those UES stalwart Italian places. And I also remember a pianist there too. Buon Appetito!
-

That is BY FAR its strongest attribute.
But some of the acting is really poor. I think Lauren Holly is a disaster as the director of the unit.
-
Now, I have some writing to finish up and then back down to watch THE INVISIBLE on Blu-ray, then on to prime time TV tonight on NBC. Looking forward to CHUCK.
-
And speaking of food [when aren't we?]:
(http://i.l.cnn.net/cnn/2007/HEALTH/diet.fitness/10/15/big.breakfast.burrito.ap/art.breakfast.burrito.ap.jpg)
Hardee's new Country Breakfast Burrito: 920 calories, 60 grams of fat!
-
DR singdaw - That doesn't even look appetizing to me. :-\
-
Nor to me! :)
-
Nor to me - and I'm kinda hungry.
-
DR Ginny - perhaps that's a good sign that you've turned the corner on the road to recovery! :)
-
Yes, DR Singdaw - today I feel better than I have since Richard and I left New York. Hoping BK and DRs Vixmom, Kerry, and FJL are recovering, too.
-
That is BY FAR its strongest attribute.
But some of the acting is really poor. I think Lauren Holly is a disaster as the director of the unit.
You shoulda seen her in TURBULENCE as the flight attendant who landed the jumbo jet while wearing a bra and half slip.....but not without first flying so low over a parking garage that she ended up with an SUV on her landing gear.
I totally recommend this movie! ;D
-
Of course what was really unbelievable to me in TURBULENCE, is that there was a cross country flight on Christmas Eve with less than 10 passengers on the ENTIRE plane.
-
DR GEORGE you are very kind to offer people copies of LEGALLY BLONDE.
Thank you.
My pleasure.

Lauren Holly in the cockpit.

A RAVE for 'Young Frankenstein': Broadway's Monster Hit
(http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,301711,00.html)
der Brucer
In the review, it says:
Bart is surrounded by a very talented core group: the hilarious (and thank goodness, sans her little girl TV voice) Megan Mullally as his society girlfriend Elizabeth; Foster as his gorgeous lab assistant Inga ("She’s assisting his brains out," Frau Blücher observes), Christopher Fitzgerald as the Marty Feldman-invention Igor (pronounced, thank you, "Eye-gor") and Shuler Hensley as the operatic monster played by Peter Boyle in the film.
When I saw it in Seattle (twice...not to brag or anything ;)), Christopher Fitzgerald as Eye-gor had the line, "She's assisting his brains out." I wonder if the reviewer got it wrong or if they actually changed who says it.
-
Lauren disappeared, maybe she will show up again later.
(http://www.beyondhollywood.com/posterx/turbulence.jpg)
-
Oh well.....off to spend a few hours with Sam Katzman on DVD
-
Gee, where IS it from, DR George? ;)
Well...some random website that I found through Google images. The article didn't have a picture and I thought that one was necessary. ;)
-
And is this a slow newsday at HHW?
Well, I guess I can post that I bought fruit at the store today.
-
Topic of the Day: For me, it would probably be the very first show that I saw on Broadway, Swinging On a Star: The Johnny Burke Musical (http://www.amazon.com/Swinging-Star-Original-Musical-Revue/dp/B000000BER/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/102-3712075-1692941?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1192484873&sr=1-2). Here in Olympia, I had performed in several Chrismas shows with Harlequin Productions that were set in the 1940s and they all featured actual 1940s numbers and were all real feel-good shows, so I came to love the music of that era. SOAS was very well done. It had great singers and I felt like they really knew how to put together a review. It had a point and was one of the highlights of my trip to NYC. :)
Here's a Page Six Swinging On a Star Dance:

-
Well, I guess I can post that I bought fruit at the store today.
What kind of fruit?
-
Well...not an officially released DVD. ;) A co-worker recorded it for me and made a DVD of it and she cut out all the commercials! AND she put all the "backstage" footage on another disc. :D I'll watch it when I get home tonight.
Anyone want a copy? :)
Yes, please, DR George. It's for my mother. Seriously.
-
I just read this article: Joe Nichols Enters Rehab for Substance Abuse (http://www.comcast.net/music/index.jsp?cat=MUSIC&fn=/2007/10/15/788365.html&cvqh=itn_nichols)
It's almost gratifying to see that someone who is only thirty years old can admit to his abuse problem, be it alcohol (most likely) or drugs.
-
What kind of fruit?
Golden Delicious apples, Granny Smith apples, MacIntosh apples, and Bartlett pears.
-
Well...some random website that I found through Google images. The article didn't have a picture and I thought that one was necessary. ;)
. . .and appreciated. ;)
-
Yes, please, DR George. It's for my mother. Seriously.
You're on the list. :)
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up.... And is this a slow newsday at HHW? ;)
No, but. . .just BAD, REALLY BAD news day. . .
-
You're on the list. :)
The "Save the cheerleader, save the world" list?
-
First off, I do hope we all haven't lost our sense of HUMOR re "is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com" - that is what we call a runner and is not meant seriously. You may now resume laughing.
Young Frankenstein - I do not trust anyone from Fox News on anything, let alone having the chutzpah to publish that before opening night - it's no more interesting than the hordes of negative posts that have occurred on various and sundried message boards.
-
Back from the meeting at LACC and now resting before the Alex this evening, which I probably shouldn't even be going to.
-
First off, I do hope we all haven't lost our sense of HUMOR re "is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com" - that is what we call a runner and is not meant seriously. You may now resume laughing.
Oh, trust me, bk, there's still laughter in this house.
-
Oh dear, td! I hope you can find out what happened.
-
Is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com?
-
I wouldn't call this a bad day, but I wouldn't call this a good day. I would call it a medium day.
-
Tonight i am looking forward to DANCING WITH THE STARS. If i'm not too tired when it is over i may watch HEROES. But i don't like to be sleepy for that one.
Plus i'm going to record a bunch of stuff on tonight (including CHUCK). And i am going to try the new show with Christina Applegate (Something with Samantha in the title). I"m not expecting to like it. But it could be funny.
I will also record JOURNEYMAN and SAVING GRACE (we are way behind you guys).
-
Well, one of the musicals that made me laugh smile and was just thoroughly entertaining was LEGALLY BLONDE. Is it perfect, no, but I can relate to it in so many ways. I'm still listening to the CD. I love a number of the songs, especially So Much Better
-
BK, have you seen the movie Legally Blonde lately? It is a critical plot point that the pool boy is lying about being gay and that none of the legal team except Emmet believes that Elle is right about it. I thought it was cute. But that's horse racing
-
I will say, I didn't like the MTV taping, I agree about the audience etc but being there was truly enjoyable and there were no screamers when we saw it.
-
I do not have too many problems suspending disbelief and enjoying a show unless it is truly awful or depressing. It's really hard for me to pick "The one" that I enjoyed the most.
-
Does PETER PAN count for the TOD, even though the show has some points to make? The Sandy Duncan revival was one of the most magical experiences I've had in a legit theater.
-
I had an insane day. From the moment I was half way in my office door until I left....I think I sort of hired a new assistant. She'll start part time in November. The lawyer she works for is phasing out so she can leave town and get married. Martha, yes another Martha in my life, is bi-lingual and has worked as a legal secretary for at least 3-4 years. My practice is really going to have to take off for her to go full time, which she wants eventually, so I guess I'm just going to have to do that!
-
I had a number of walk ins today. That almost never happens and it just kept happening. My head was spinning by the end of the day. I may have to go back to the office after DWS. I was hungry and tired so I didn't stay late. I do like being there at night, so I'll probably go back
-
Does PETER PAN count for the TOD, even though the show has some points to make? The Sandy Duncan revival was one of the most magical experiences I've had in a legit theater.
OH! I saw that, I loved when she flew over the audience! That was my first TKTS experience.
-
I'm not complaining about being busy, that was good and I like it. I was also asked to run for the Iowa ACLU board. Since I've been wanting to get back into being an activist again, I told them I would.
-
Aren't we ever going to get to page 7?
-
DR Jennifer, I am also looking forward to DWS. So is my mom. I would bet that she is already settled into her chair with her pencil and paper handy so she can take notes...
-
Does this one do it?
-
Ok, page 7....my work here is done
-
Good afternoon dear Esteemed, clogged, rumbling, and coughing BK --
What is all that nastiness about child ??!?!! You just be riddin' that there body of all those cooties and yukky things. Here.... I send you a mitzvah of healing vibes and soothing dreams.
-
And good afternoon to all the assorted cookies in the Living Room this afternoon. I'm finally having a break (around 4:20 PM) from noise and banging and ripping. The "dis-assembly" of my kitchen started this morning. Plumbing all disconnected, old counter tops ripped off, all the original drawers and doors taken off and discarded.
Here is a picture of what the kitchen was like when I bought the place a few months ago.
-
And here (looking even worse for now) is the result of todays work. ???
-
And with that, I'll quit being a cheap imitation of HGTV, and start getting ready for a few evening things.
Feel better everyone, and have a good evening.
-
DR singdaw - That doesn't even look appetizing to me. :-\
I was about to ask WHY Singdaw posted the photo ??? :P ;D
-
It's almost gratifying to see that someone who is only thirty years old can admit to his abuse problem, be it alcohol (most likely) or drugs.
Yes it is and I hope that means he will be successful.
-
First off, I do hope we all haven't lost our sense of HUMOR
These headlines made me laugh:
"First U.S. baby boomer applies for Social Security"
http://www.reuters.com/article/latestCrisis/idUSN15383509
-
It will be exciting to see the transformation of DR MusicGuy's kitchen!
-
Td, I’m very sorry about your theft. That happened to us once & it is upsetting. Eventually the bank returned the money into our account. Eventually is the key work, it takes time for them to verify the theft. I hope your mother can wait until the problem is corrected. AND VIBES THEY FIND THE THIEF! Ours was never found.
-
Note the lovely new floor.
-
It will be exciting to see the transformation of DR MusicGuy's kitchen!
Even for us who won't have the pleasure of seeing it in person.
-
Oh, and I did mean to mention the lovely new floor. :) I noticed it, just forgot to say something.
-
Healing vibes to Kerry!
-
Vibes to FJL
-
Had a lovely weekend... IT was fun time at the wedding... The 40somthings outlasted the 20somethings at the dance...
Laura, did Donny get added? I thought of you when I heard Puppy love by him at a restaurant we ate at yesterday morning
-
Ok, I hate to say I'm watching Inside Edition, but they had a story about those big exercise balls and a guy who was working out on one when it burst and he broke both arms. The bottom line was make sure you use one that is burst resistant. Please govern yourselves accordingly
-
Grantseeking research, to college students who think all they need to know is how to Google.
Why am I not surprised Ginny...
-
My practice is really going to have to take off for her to go full time, which she wants eventually, so I guess I'm just going to have to do that!
Sounds like a good plan. VIBES YOUR PRACTICE REALLY TAKES OFF SOON! And vibes the new Martha in your life works out great!
-
Cilla, the plot point is not a problem at all - the musical number that accompanies the plot point is what took me out of the show - for me, anyway, you can't have it all ways and you must obey the rules of the universe you're setting up, which is why I ultimately disliked the Greek Chorus - if they're HER Greek Chorus, no prob - but when they interact with others, I'm done.
-
Congrats to Elmore on his new plateau!
-
Hi Dakota. I'm pleased you had a lovely weekend.
-
Sounds like a good plan. VIBES YOUR PRACTICE REALLY TAKES OFF SOON! And vibes the new Martha in your life works out great!
Thanks Jane. It's all been positive so far. Of course you get two steps forward and one step back from time to time. But it's great over all
-

Well, I'm with you on the Greek Chorus. It was a cute line, but you're right, they didn't follow those rules at all and they lost me on that. During the trial, I actually hated that they went into the bathroom, but I guess I'm just forgiving because I had such a fun time.
-
Vibes for success to Cilla!
-
I think I would be a lousy critic.
-
TCB, did it arrive?
-
Oh man, was that MORE thunder?? We had a record rainfall for the day yesterday and it's been rainy all day.
-
Now the sun is shinning that class is over. ::). I shouldn’t complain, at least it wasn’t raining & we had a nice class.
There was very sad news though. One of my classmates suddenly passed away yesterday. She was a very kind and good person. In spite of a difficult chronic medical problem she worked hard getting her puppy over some serious issues. I don’t know what will happen to the dog now. The trainer was going to pick him up after class. Finding a home for him will not be easy as he growls at people and other dogs out of fear. He loves the two black cats that hang out at class.
-
Cilla, a LOT of people had and are having a fun time at Legally Blonde, and, again, I might like it better live.
-
Cilla, it has been cloudy but no rain here...
Cason, adorable new avvie!
-
Cold-free vibes to bk!
-
Well, it's watch DWS and then back to the office for a couple hours. too much craziness today to get much accomplished
-
Cilla, a LOT of people had and are having a fun time at Legally Blonde, and, again, I might like it better live.
I think you will. ;D
-
Now that I have my home computer back, I can log on and chat after work.
-
As for a play or plays...
And did you happen to tell him what you thought of his equipment?
-
Now that I have my home computer back, I can log on and chat after work.
:) Good news.
-
Hi TCB. How is your shoulder? Has there been any improvement?
-
TOD: Without a doubt, the OBC of Pippin, which simply blew me away from start to finish as a kid on my first stay in NYC. :o
According to one of his former co-stars, Mr. Rubinstein has been known to be a bit testy at times.
-
No, but. . .in the BAD, REALLY BAD news department: my mother's checking account was compromised in the past two days, by someone spending close to $4000.00!
I have taken the necessary action for today, and will continue more actions tomorrow with the bank.
I feel violated - - - and not in a good way - - - as the account also bears my name.
~~~SUPER MONEY RECOVERY VIBES FOR DR TD AND HIS MOTHER!!!~~~
-
I spoke too soon, the kids coming into the library are now reporting it is raining lightly.
-
TCB, did you get your package from North Dakota?
-
Looks like I am the only one around these hear parts who did not see LEGALLY BLONDE last night...instead I watched the 1957 film 18 AND ANXIOUS which starred Mary Webster, William Campbell, my interviewee Ron Hagerthy, and my want-to-be interviewee Jacqueline Loughrey (Miss USA 1952). Pretty good film.
Today I think I may watch a Friday the Wonder Dog double feature...ROOKIE COP and THE HIDDEN EYE. How's that for entertainment!
No, MBarnum, you were not alone. I did not watch LEGALLY BLONDE either, because I was glued to my TV watching my beloved Seattle Seahawks play on national Television. However, considering the results, I should have watched LEGALLY BLONDE.
-
Money recover vibes to td and his Dear mother...
~~~Continued Foot-Feel-Better Vibes for FJL!!~~~
Oh boy, I am tired. I swore you wrote Continued Foot-Fetish-Better Vibes for FJL.
-
I just read this article: Joe Nichols Enters Rehab for Substance Abuse (http://www.comcast.net/music/index.jsp?cat=MUSIC&fn=/2007/10/15/788365.html&cvqh=itn_nichols)
(http://www.saddleridgepittsburgh.com/joe1.jpg)
(the picture is not from this article, though)
I wonder if it is too late to get into the same rehab center?
-
By "entertaining" I mean a show or musical that had nothing on its mind other than to entertain, but one that did so with great craft and intelligence - i.e. Guys and Dolls and the already-mentioned How To Succeed. I'd add Promises, Promises to that pile.
I think that HELLO, DOLLY! falls into that category. Unless you find some social relevance to a group of African-Americans traveling from Yonkers To New York City and never encountering anyone but other African-Americans.
Hmmm, did Stokeley Carmichael know about this subversive musical?
-
Shoulder vibes to TCB!
-
TOD:
A production of SHE LOVES ME at the Indiana Repertory Theater (long BEFORE Libby Appel showed up to ruin the place). Just wonderful from beginning to end...and a delight!
Plays: a fun fine production of THE DINING ROOM. Frances Farmer in THE SEAGULL.
Yeah, THE SEAGULL. Now that's fluff.
-
It's raining here in Olympia. First time in a while.
George, I was in Olympia all day today, and I didn't see you.
-
George, I was in Olympia all day today, and I didn't see you.
You were?? We could'a had lunch! :)
-
Jeesh, there's no pleasing some people! ;)
If I spend my work time posting, there's comment...
But if I spend my work time working, there's comment...
Hmm.
:P
:)
Slingblade, please use your entire work day posting to HHW.
-
Of course what was really unbelievable to me in TURBULENCE, is that there was a cross country flight on Christmas Eve with less than 10 passengers on the ENTIRE plane.
Actually, there was a story several years ago about a little boy who was flying on Christmas Eve from London to Seattle on British Airways. He was the only passenger on the entire 747 jumbo jet. Just him and the crew. It made headlines here.
-
As we were walking down the street yesterday we saw Sherlock's friend Boulder headed straight towards us. Boulder is younger but far more broad than Sherlock is, plus he has his adult coat already.
-
In the review, it says:
If it got a huge laugh, I am sure the line has gone to Andrea.
-
And just because he was soooo cute, and I can......
-
Golden Delicious apples, Granny Smith apples, MacIntosh apples, and Bartlett pears.
Why, were they out of Bartlett apples?
Excuse me! I am trying to reach a milestone, here!
-
Does PETER PAN count for the TOD, even though the show has some points to make? The Sandy Duncan revival was one of the most magical experiences I've had in a legit theater.
I will second that one........ and I saw it five times.
-
I am back from a wonderful belated birthday dinner with our DR Jose. He took me to Ouest at 84th and Broadway where I dined on one of the most wonderful meals I've ever had. Truly scrumptious. I'll let DR Jose tell you more, but I want to go back if only for the raspberry-ginger coupe I had for dessert: pound cake, fresh raspberries, ginger, ice cream combined into something I am craving to experience again.
-
So sorry to hear about your classmate, Jane.
-
DakotaCelt, I have given up hope that Donny will be added.
-
BK, did your package place tell you there's something waiting for you at Valley Village?
-
Note the lovely new floor.
Does MusicGuy's new floor really slant to one side, or did he just have a crappy photographer?
-
TCB, did it arrive?
Well now, Dakota, if you had caught up on all of the posts that you missed while you were gone; you would know that I posted a very grateful and sincere thank you to you!
-
Hi TCB. How is your shoulder? Has there been any improvement?
No, unfortunately not. Some days when I come home from work, I just sit down and have a good cry. Oh well, what can you do?
-
I wonder if it is too late to get into the same rehab center?
i'm closer, geographically speaking. . . .
-
Wow! I know more people involved with this Broadway bound production of A TALE OF TWO CITIES - one of our former DR Joey's major obsessions - than I had realized: Joe Cassidy, Derek Keeling, Michael Hayward-Jones with whom I acted in dinner theatre a hundred years ago, and Nick Wyman, who's never been particularly friendly, but I do love his "DINGBATS" commercial for Staples. Of course, the mighty Tony Walton and our Miss Heather, set designer for "The Brain," are also involved, and I wish it well.
-
Southwest Gas spent 31 cents in postage alone to send me a bill for 31 cents; I am afraid we may have created some sort of vortex or something or will go back in time!!
-
In that photo of Joe Nichols, his foot looks remarkably pain-free. Funny the things one notices. :)
-

DR FJL, I do hope your foot improves soon.
(Have you tried Dancing with the Stars?)
-
~~~SUPER MONEY RECOVERY VIBES FOR DR TD AND HIS MOTHER!!!~~~
Thank you George, for quoting td. Since he has since edited his post, I had no idea what Jane was talking about.
-
Of course, my feet were pain-free when I was 30.
-
You had a gas bill for only 31 cents?
-
Thank you George, for quoting td. Since he has since edited his post, I had no idea what jane was talking about.
LOL-Guess I will go back & see what td did to his post.
-
Kerry, don't waste your money paying the 31 cents. If you call them I'm sure they will waive the amount. Be sure to get the name of the person who gives you an ok to waive it.
-
td, I am so sorry to read (in George's post) about your mother's financial woes.
-
Thank you George, for quoting td. Since he has since edited his post, I had no idea what Jane was talking about.
Should I re-edit my post so that no one knows what we're talking about??
:-\
-
Beautiful pictures of Sherlock!
-
Dakota is gone, so soon? I hope she knew I was just giving her a bad time.
-
No, unfortunately not. Some days when I come home from work, I just sit down and have a good cry. Oh well, what can you do?
Not much else I guess. Hanging in there vibes until you can return to a surgeon. Do you know which one you will return to?
-
Dakota is gone, so soon? I hope she knew I was just giving her a bad time.
Oh, she is back!
-
DakotaCelt, I have given up hope that Donny will be added.
Laura, you would have loved it!
-
I am at work so I have to look like I am doing something constructive from time to time <G>
-
Now that would be amusing!
-
I love love love Christina Applegate! So far, I think SAMANTHA WHO? is a whoot! Of course, it's only been on for about six minues.
-
Not much else I guess. Hanging in there vibes until you can return to a surgeon. Do you know which one you will return to?
I will go back to the first surgeon. I really liked his manner (and his looks). I thought the second surgeon was kind of snotty about the whole thing. But he really clinched it for me, when he sat down in front of me and dictated his notes about his patient, including quote/unquote around everything I had said that he seemed to doubt.
-
Thank you DR Laura. I just hope her dog doesn't have as sad an ending. Of all the people and dogs in the class he tolerated Sherlock and me the best.
-
Well, it's time for me to go to rehearsal. Until later!
-
George, I wish we could have done lunch. Unfortunately I was sealed up inside of OB-2 the whole day for a post Federal audit review.
-
And one for manner
-
(TCB's surgeon's manner, that is)
-
TCB-How rude of the second surgeon!
I don't suppose the physical therapist can return with you to the first surgeon to be your advocate. Honestly, do you have someone you can take with you to listen to what the surgeon says, and think of questions to ask?
-
Thank you Dakota.
DR elmore, I just programed SAMANTHA WHO to record.
-
Good Evening!
As DR elmore has already mentioned, we dined at Ouest tonight, and we both had some wonderful dinners. -And a rather tall, cute, handsome waiter too. (Alas, neither of us "had" him, he was just our waiter for the evening.)
DR elmore had the "Pan Roasted Salmon with Roasted Fennel Custard & a Cannellini Bean, Bacon, Little Neck Clam Ragout". While I had the "Roasted Farm Raised Sturgeon with Seasonal Mushrooms, Soy Beans & Truffled Carnaroli Rice". And for dessert, DR elmore had their Ginger-Rasperry "Coupe" - a layered affair with all sort of goodness in it, and I had their "Iced Cappuccino" Sunday, another layered affair with an Espresso Semi-Freddo and other goodness. Quite a wonderful meal.
And, of course, the company was grand too. Thank you, Larry, for the score and the card. And your friendship.
-
*Oh, and Kate Mulgrew happened to come in to the restaurant right after us. :)
-
OH! And while I was walking up Broadway to 86th Street to catch the train, I bumped - literally bumped - into Bobby Cannavale. We were both trying to get around a delivery bicycle that was set in the middle of the sidewalk. He said, "I'm sorry." (I recognized the voice instantly.) I said, "I'm sorry." Then we went our separate ways. However, I do believe we'll be registering at Tiffany's in no time. ;D
-
Dinner sounds yummy, belated birthday celebrations can be extra nice.
-
Keith has been immensely enjoying his new computer game. The graphics are so wonderful I have even watched him play some of this game.
-
I figured we would have a report from DR Sandra by now. Is she working late?
-
DR td - I hope you and your mother's bank account problems come to a speedy and satisfying conclusion. But as other have mentioned, it's going to take some time. Last year when my cell phone number got "cloned", and I ended up with almost $2000 worth of long-distance call charges to the Dominican Republic, it took months(!) before I could actually get a hold of someone in my phone company's fraud department - and then a few more weeks to wait for them to contact me. But everything did get straightened out, and I ended up receiving credit for about four months of my usual monthly charges in addition to the cancellation of the bogus charges.
*And, yes, I did change all my passwords and passcodes on the rest of my accounts on and offline.
-
*Oh, and Kate Mulgrew happened to come in to the restaurant right after us. :)
Did she recognize both of you?
-
I figured we would have a report from DR Sandra by now. Is she working late?
She's home. I think she's soaking in a warm bath at the moment.
-
OH! And while I was walking up Broadway to 86th Street to catch the train, I bumped - literally bumped - into Bobby Cannavale. We were both trying to get around a delivery bicycle that was set in the middle of the sidewalk. He said, "I'm sorry." (I recognized the voice instantly.) I said, "I'm sorry." Then we went our separate ways. However, I do believe we'll be registering at Tiffany's in no time. ;D
Not according to his interview in THE ADVOCATE or OUT or one of those rags.
I know, I know... :-\
But one can dream, can't they?
-
Td and Jose, I think the bank is a bit faster than a cell phone company.
-
Think of it this way: He can't leave his wife for you, because his father-in-law (Sidney Lumet) would stop casting him and it would hurt his career.
Better?
I passed along information on Best Friends http://www.bestfriends.org to the dog trainer, who has passed it along to the mother of the woman in my class.
TCB-IMDB says they were divorced in 2003.
...And he was walking down the street with another actor, so...
Hope springs eternal. Or at least delusional.
-
And just because he was soooo cute, and I can......
Ooohhhhhh... Puppy! :)
-
Thanks Jose :)
I would say, "Call him!"
Hi everyone!
DR TD, I tried to leave you a message but your in box is full!
Sorry to post and run but I got home late from the Chiropractor then I had to book everything for my trip. Everything is set except for the dog kennel. I'm going there on Saturday to give the place I've picked a once over then I will book it. I have a good feeling about it already since one of the guys at work told me he has used it for his dogs over the past eleven years with no problems of any kind.
Vibes and hugs to those who need them!
-
Well, folks, it is pill time, which in this household means bedtime. So I will leave you........ because I can.
But first, I should apologize to one and all if I am not keeping up with my end of the vibes. Sometimes, when you are in pain, you tend to forget that others may be hurting even more. So, vibes to all.
Good night.
I wish I remembered sooner I had the camera in my purse as I missed some great photos of Sherlock & Boulder while they were playing. One Bernese Mountain Dog is a big attention grabber, two playing on the sidewalk was a crowd stopper. Not that anyone could pass with the two big dogs taking up most of the sidewalk space. ;D
-
TCB-We are just pleased you continue to post in spite of the pain.
Sleep well!
-
Love the Sherlock pictures!!
-
Rest well, TCB, and I hope your shoulder feels better. Somehow.
DR JOSE who is this Friend Mark that we keep hearing about? And how did the waiter do in his coaching sessions....is he in a show yet?
-
Want to see a dancing bird?
http://birdloversonly.blogspot.com/2007/09/may-i-have-this-dance.html (http://birdloversonly.blogspot.com/2007/09/may-i-have-this-dance.html)
-
I didn't see Legally Blonde, either.
Me neither, but I'd like to!
-
I wish everyone I choreographed in PIPPIN could dance as well as that bird.
-
I wish I was going to rehearsal..... *sigh*
-
While at the conference over the weekend, I almost broke into giggles. In the opening prayer, the moderator asked God to bend our wills to do his work. I could just imagine God zapping us all with a will-bender gun.
I'm sure there are some out there that think Zubrick IS a God!
-
JRand thank you for the compliment, AND for the dancing bird. What a hoot. Keith & I enjoyed it very much.
Well...not an officially released DVD. ;) A co-worker recorded it for me and made a DVD of it and she cut out all the commercials! AND she put all the "backstage" footage on another disc. :D I'll watch it when I get home tonight.
Anyone want a copy? :)
Mememememe!
-
Anyone seen this yet?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ys9xn60IBXA
My client sent this to me last week. Pretty well done stop-motion!
-
Okay...if anyone else wants a copy, just e-mail me your address and, as I PMed Jeanne, unless it's an absolutely horrible DVD copy, I'll send it soonly. :)
And e-mail would be easier because my PM in-box might fill up to quickly. Thanks.
OhMyGod! That would be totally awesome!
-
It is pouring here & chilly 52 degrees.
Please send us some rain! Please!!
DR JOSE who is this Friend Mark that we keep hearing about? And how did the waiter do in his coaching sessions....is he in a show yet?
Mark is just a friend of mine, a new friend. He's in the publishing biz. As I explained to DR elmore at dinner, I've actively tried to expand my social circle over the past couple of weeks, meaning, I've been trying to meet people - well, gay men - who are not also Broadway musicians or actors. So far, so good. But again, Mark is just a friend. As is Shawn, Eric, Jeremy, etc. :)
-
We only have 3 months of water left in our lakes. There are going to be some serious restrictions besides the outdoor watering ban coming soon.
Ahhh....okay.....well we must be kept informed about any romantic developments here at HHW because we share everything.
YW, DRJANE....I loved it, too.
I hope DR TOMovOZ gets a chance to see it!
-
I will give their Chocolate Hibiscus Pistachio Brownie a try.
Do they have hibiscus biscuits?
-
Miz Drysdale had an ailing hibiscus that Granny tried to doctor....I remember that.
-
I spent the first part of my evening watchign THE INVISIBLE on Blu-ray. I jsut watched the standard definition version of the film last week. The Blu-ray FAR surpasses the SD in visual quality. The uncompressed soundtrack was also more open sounding. Too bad all this video and audio quality is lost on such an absurd movie.
-
elmore, I did get the package - a big surprise! But, let me just say this - there is a key thing missing at the beginning of the second disc - WHERE IS IT?
-
DR Jane, so sorry to hear about your classmate. Vibes that her puppy dog finds a loving home.
-
I put on another BONES episode afterwards. This one concerned the body of a dead woman found in a Catholic cemetery that was supposed to house only corpses from a century ago. This corpse was only three years old, and from there we learn of other murders going on in the parish. I remember wanting to kick myself when the show first aired that I didn't pick up on the murderer right away.
-
CHUCK had its best episode thus far tonight. Very exciting adventure, and Zachary Levi was particularly funny and also wistful in some scenes. I really loved it tonight.
-
HEROES gave us a new hero and some focus on some heroes we haven't been paying much attention to thus far this season.
-
And I enjoyed JOURNEYMAN tonight, too. I still think the wife is being too hard on her husband who's telling her the truth and is at the mercy of something beyond his control.
-
Going to write for a bit now, and then head on down to bed. I had a very poor night of sleep last night, so I'm looking forward to a more restful night tonight.
Good night, all!
TOD: All of Bill Irwin's shows I've seen have been magical to me.
Musical: CABARET
Drama: LES LIASONS DANGEREUSES (Alan Rickman as Valmont)
My sister just sent me a few pics from the wedding, mostly the reception....but here I am dancing with my baby sister Molly, who started to cry.... I didn't - but it wasn't easy. :'(
-
After an evening of Sam Katzman Clover Productions, I am going to watch Hangover Square and see a REAL movie....
-
I enjoyed CHUCK as well. There was something benign even about its mean streak.
Cole Porter died on this date in 1964....didn't he write:
Young Frankenstein - I do not trust anyone from Fox News on anything, let alone having the chutzpah to publish that before opening night - it's no more interesting than the hordes of negative posts that have occurred on various and sundried message boards.
Well, shall I delete it then ;D
Did anyone by chance record the Ann Miller movie THE THRILL OF BRAZIL off TCM last week???? I forgot to and do so want to see it (and Tito Guizar!).
-
BK, have you seen the movie Legally Blonde lately? It is a critical plot point that the pool boy is lying about being gay and that none of the legal team except Emmet believes that Elle is right about it. I thought it was cute. But that's horse racing
I must admit, I found it a hoot - and I'm a European.
der Brucer
It was nice to see them have such good fun with an issue many people (on both teams) might find offensive.
-
Well... I've already been zoning in and out for the past hour or so, so...
Goodnight.
-
Oh.... We DVR'd "Samantha Who?" and watched it a little while ago. Smart and funny. We liked it a lot.
-
I just finished watching "Samantha Who?" Too. I really liked the pilot. It will be interesting to see how it plays in the long run.
-
Ok, I hate to say I'm watching Inside Edition, but they had a story about those big exercise balls and a guy who was working out on one when it burst and he broke both arms. The bottom line was make sure you use one that is burst resistant. Please govern yourselves accordingly
If, like Zubrik, you have two well equipped dressed attendants, this is not a problem.
Visited the Alex, which was okay, not that many people there, but I ran into a couple of folks I knew. I also left flyers next door at Mystery and Imagination Bookstore, and finally set the date for the Murder At Hollywood High signing- December 1. I could have done it a week later on my birthday, but I don't like mixing up events. The owner told me she's actually been getting calls from people asking if there was a new book and signing coming up.
-
Wow! I know more people involved with this Broadway bound production of A TALE OF TWO CITIES -
I have thoroughly enjoyed the soundtrack cast recording concept album.
