Well, you've read the notes, the notes defied the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the defying cows come home.

As in "Defying Gravi-D"?

Last night, I went to Subway for dinner and had one of their new (and available for a limited time only) Chicken Florentine Flatbreads.  It was very good. :D

Topic of the Day:  I'd start with "WALL-E."  Then, "The Lord of the Rings" (the extended editions trilogy).  I'd have to think about what to show next.

TOD

I have a problem with "best DVD". DVDs of some of my most spectacular movie favorites, like Ben Hur, can not duplicate a major theatrical showing of the MGM Camera 65/6 Channel Sound. The DVDs of the Harry Potter films are pure pleasure - but they still fail to bring the same thrills you get in a theatre.

That said Tim Burton's "Edward Scissorhands" is a remarkable DVD bringing all of Burton's glorious surrealistic imagery to the TV screen. Curtiz's Robin Hood is also at the top of the list.

Once things got going the installation actually was fairly easy. I take "easy 3-step installation" with a grain of salt but it was fairly painless and the fact that the laptop can share the connection as well is even better. I went to all the graphics heavy sites that take minutes (or more) to load at home, like the Credit Union and The New York Times and Hallmark (looking at some e-cards) and they all load quickly and without incident. What a relief.

The hardest thing I did was replace our phone. We had a very good 14 year old Toshiba cordless phone and we also had an answering machine (Anthony doesn't want to go to voice mail from Verizon, he's funny that way) a Caller ID box and a unit which told us we were getting an incoming call when we were on line with dial-up. If I kept all those devices I would need to put a DSL filter on each of them along with the regular phone line. It was easier to just get a new phone with an answering machine attached so last night after work I went shopping for a phone. I was just looking for something simple with a decent amount of message recording time. I ended up with something more elaborate but easy to install. We now have a corded land line with two cordless handset. The main unit has an answering machine with 28 minutes of recording time, a phone book for speed dialing, Caller ID and Call Waiting and other features. The handsets are not ready to use yet because they take 16 HOURS to charge!!! But the main phone unit works along with all the bells and whistles. It had just one cord to plug into the phone jack (along with the DSL filter). Everything works well. I got up this morning at 5am and the first thing I did was turn on the computer and go on line to make sure it wasn't just a fluke. I sped around the Internet and decided it will, indeed, work. What a relief.

And now back to work.

Good morning, all!  I was out of bed at 6:15. By 7:30 all 37 cartons were lined up in the hall for Fed Ex to pick up between 9 am and 3 pm. My apartment seems so roomy. The MBarnum memorial fire escape is cleared again and the pigeons are happy to see the cartons go.

Today, while I await Fed Ex, I shall work on THE MOST HAPPY FELLA and do a few Toyland critical note revisions.

DR Ben, have you watched THE COURT JESTER yet?

DR vixmom, I'm glad the ordeal wasn't too tramatic yesterday.

BK, I'm glad your contracts came through; I got mine yesterday for SPRING IS HERE, so I knew that things were moving along. I stopped by R&H to drop of the completed forms and the new offices look fantastic. The renovation is great and I look forward to going back for a tour.

DR MBarnum, DOSTANA is playing in the East Village on Third Avenue, and I may try to see it on Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Happy now?

DR Ben, have you watched THE COURT JESTER yet?

Not yet Dear Friend. Perhaps this weekend, on Sunday. We have both been busy as bees and yesterday turned into the marathon DSL installation/phone changeover. Saturday I'm seeing two shows, one is a cabaret at Don't Tell Mama. A friend who had a day job but still works as a performer is doing a new cabaret show so I'm supporting her in the afternoon and in the evening we are seeing Funny as a Crutch. It's a series of nine short plays all performed by people with disabilities. The show has gotten some very good reviews. A friend bought tickets before checking his calendear only to find he was already booked that evening so he gave the tickets to us. Lucky Us! I'm looking forward to it.

I am still waiting for the official Performance Evaluation. My end of it is done and ready. Now I just have to wait for the official call. Time is a passin' On November 25th I'm outta here. But that's their problem, not mine.

I have to get a haircut at lunch. We are having a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very important meeting with the new President of our organization (the emphasis is from others not me, I've met him, he's a very nice, personable and intelligent man) tomorrow morning so I have to look my best as well as go over my "talking points" I have to remember to stay on script :-)

The worse DVDs have to be any bootleg or film/tv show in public domain. The quality is unwatchable and hopefully one day the will be release properly.

Surprisingly there are several MGM that went into public domain and some have them have been reclaimed. Like Royal Wedding and one of those composer bio films like Till The Clouds Roll By or Words and Music (Can' t remember which one) Other are two Liz Taylor films Father's Little Dividend (or is it Father of the Bride) and The Last Time I Saw Paris

Also any of those 100 movies in one set are all public domain (musicals, horror films etc)

Isn't it funny how those show choir clips were all from Indiana's Lafayette Jefferson High School's group First Edition?

Yes, the XANADU medley is in a class by itself.....
