With all the postings about Patrick Cassidy yesterday
Unless I missed it, did no one pick up on the lady with PC in the 42nd Street photo was his mother?
Also I had a chance to meet him although I had no scenes with him when he guested on the TV series Sirens.
I think he is very brave to let his hair go gray.

Yesterday I had a severe allergic reaction to something I ate for lunch. Nothing out of the ordinary, but at first I thought I was having a stroke or bell palsey. My left side of my face was distorted according to my coworkers. I couldn't see out of my left eye and my balance was off. Went to an emergency clinic and they gave me some Benedrill. Powerful stuff and it cleared t up. But I slept most of the rest of the day away.
I am ok now I hope

Not so sure I'd apply them to bowel disturbances.

My question for Dear BK Day:
Dear BK, have you ever eaten a crawdad?

Wednesday....much news posted about yesterday.....whew! Where else on all the internet can you find out such things?

Good morning.
The posts always have such good humor.
And I was born humorless. Don't think it can be learned either.

What would life be without a can of WD 40, everyone has a can somewhere in their house, garage, or apt., and probably at work too.

I asked this Question Two Weeks Ago and never got a reply...so again
Jerome Kern was signed to do the music for ANNIE GET YOUR GUN and died.Irving Berlin was signed on and we know what that score Is. However,it would be interesting to know what Kern would have come up with.
What existing Musical would you have liked to have been written by another Composer and Why?
Don't forget to give my regards to Kevin

Morning, all.
It's supposed to be a hot and muggy day here in Manhattan. We are meeting a friend for lunch at
Maoz (http://www.maozusa.com/)
an international "quick service" vegetarian establishment on Park Avenue South between 16th and 17th Streets (technically it's 38 Union Square East and to confuse things even more at 14th Street Park Avenue South turns back into the original street name 4th Avenue).
I've never been there but our friend is having health issues and prefers to eat veggie when possible so we will try it out with her.
The flagship sandwich is described thusly:
The famous Maoz sandwich is home baked pita bread filled with crispy, handmade Falafel balls which are made from chickpeas, a vitamin rich legume, packed with plenty of proteins, minerals and vitamin B. The chickpeas are blended daily with fresh spices and vegetables and then fried in zero trans-fat Canola oil.

I remember Fizzies!!! :D
(http://www.theimaginaryworld.com/fizzie06.jpg)
They were a special treat when we were young.
I remember them, but I never liked them. I guess I preferred either real cola/soda or Kool-Aid.
-
I remember Fizzies but not in a packet like that. I never much cared for them either. I also don't remember having to add sugar. Maybe things were different in Coon Rapids.
-
Good morning!
Coolish (but not as cool as the last couple of mornings), but we're in for high 80s today, so no relief. We did have some rain during the night, but all that means is I'll be mowing the grass before I want to.
-
My work project today will be the upcoming Blu-ray release of SLING BLADE. I liked the movie very much when I saw it during its theatrical release, but I don't think I've seen it since, so I'll be interested to see how it holds up. I knew nothing about Billy Bob Thornton when I saw the movie so I had no idea how much was a performance. Of course, having seen him a lot in subsequent years, I know what a convincing job he did here.
-
There are a bunch of bonus features on the disc including a commentary, so I'll be working on this for a good part of the day.
-
Well, plans change in the blink of an eye! The UPS truck just made a delivery: the Fox Blu-rays of THE TOWERING INFERNO and PRISON BREAK: THE FINAL BREAK, so TOWERING INFERNO will have to be dealt with today since it more than a week past street date.
-
Saw BK's semi-beloved Musso and Frank in a very funny skit in Tracey Takes On...., which I just reviewed. Have you ever had lunch with Ruby Romaine, BK? ;)
-
On TV TOnight!™
President Obama is addressing nation at 8 p.m., so TV schedules for some networks are being adjusted. Consult local listings for accurate program information.
ABC - WIPEOUT, JAPANESE GAME SHOW (allegedly, ABC is moving these two programs back an hour)
NBC - AMERICA'S GOT TALENT, THE PHILANTHROPIST
FOX - SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?
BBCA - TORCHWOOD: CHILDREN OF EARTH - Part 3
BRA - TOP CHEF MASTERS
TNT - LEVERAGE, DARK BLUE
-
Sorry about health issues, DR Michael Shayne. Hope everything is back to normal and there is no recurrence of the problem.
Hope DR Elmore is also healing and improving.
Glad to read about DR SWW's improvement. Hope it continues.

Actually, I think I did answer, or at least I said I'd have to think about it. I don't know if I'd have liked the result, but I did have my interest piqued by a Rodgers and Hammerstein My Fair Lady.
-
Saw BK's semi-beloved Musso and Frank in a very funny skit in Tracey Takes On...., which I just reviewed. Have you ever had lunch with Ruby Romaine, BK? ;)
I've only had lunch with Ruby Tuesday but on a Thursday.

I don't think I ever saw individual packets of Fizzies either.

JMK - We sometimes think alike, and most often I like it that way! :)

That sounds very scary DR Michael Shayne. Glad you are okay.
-
I believe CBS, NBC and ABC are all showing the president at 8pm. Fox is showing SYTYCD (8-10pm).
-
DR Michael S - do you know what caused your reaction so that you can avoid it in the future? Hope you're feeling better today!
-
I remember Fizzies but not in a packet like that. I never much cared for them either. I also don't remember having to add sugar. Maybe things were different in Coon Rapids.
I remember a Fizzies packet that size, but only in the supermarkets. The candy stand Fizzies were only two tabs in a packet.
I never liked the taste of the drink they produced, either. Mostly, they were purchased for the sole purpose of watching them fizz in a glass of water. The drink was simply taken into the backyard and conveniently spilled onto a rosebush.
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... And the sun is back out in NYC. :)
-
I believe CBS, NBC and ABC are all showing the president at 8pm. Fox is showing SYTYCD (8-10pm).
Yes, but I believe Obama is making a special guest appearance on that show, too.
-
DR Ben - I like Maoz, although I will admit that the first time I went there, it took me a while to figure out the "logistics" of their menu. But it's very good falafel, and if you stack the various salads and toppings "correctly", you can come away with quite a nicely-sized meal.
-

Yes, but I believe Obama is making a special guest appearance on that show, too.
And, apparently, Susan Boyle's appearance on "America's Got Talent" tonight prompted the White House to move the press conference from 9:00pm to 8:00pm. And if you happened to catch "The Hoff's" appearance on the "The View" yesterday, well.... What an a**hole!

With all the postings about Patrick Cassidy yesterday
Unless I missed it, did no one pick up on the lady with PC in the 42nd Street photo was his mother?
I think he is very brave to let his hair go gray.
Yes, Patrick proudly said in many interviews that he and Shirley are the only mother/son team to ever perform together on Broadway. But Mark, being the anal-retentive journalist that he is, did some research and found that George M. Cohan and his mother also performed together on Broadway a bazillion years ago.
I don't know if Patrick's grey hair has anything to do with bravery. I believe he's always colored it based on what he believed would get him the most work. And the producers on the "Ruby" team probably thought that his given his character (a responsible car salesman), the grey hair was most appropriate. The storyline hinted he may go back to being a pop star, in which case, I wouldn't be surprised if a hair-color change was written into the script.
So, did anyone here actually watch "Ruby & the Rockets" last night?
-
Oh, and I'm up to a refrain of If I Had A Hammer, I'd hammer in the morning...
Debbie Reynolds moved in next door?
Or maybe Peter, Paul & Mary?
Although, Debbie Reynolds does have that horn section.

When I opened up THE LUCY SHOW dvd last nite, I got a very pleasant surprise--there was a flyer advertising upcoming releases and one of them was THE MOTHERS-IN-LAW--both seasons of the show (50+ episodes) in one set. There's no release date set yet but I am sure looking forward to it, whenever that will be.

As DR Amy just mentioned, that pic of Patrick Cassidy with his mother, Shirley Jones, was from when they stepped into the most recent revival of 42nd Street.
I like his gray hair. When he was on the Joseph tour, I remember how "gold" they had dyed his hair. It looked OK from the audience, but backstage - I played a few times on that tour - it was quite, well.. "gold". ;)
*Although, I didn't really mind his make-up enhanced six-pack abs. ::)

That's because you won't give anyone any sugar.

Me, too, Ben. That's what we used when we had our "happy Fizzies parties."
And sweetened with "Sucaryl" and "Saccaharine", no less!!!!

Patrick Cassidy was also the first man to show his bare backside on network television during the short lived TV series Bay City Blues from NBC in 1983.
-
I did not have the patience for Fizzies.....
-
Well the schedule says Ice Road Truckers.....but they keep saying DARK PRESENCE the episode of UFO HUNTERS featuring my sister is on tonight at 10 p.m.
I don't think so.....but we shall see.
-
DR JOSE did you get to see Adam at Duplex last night?

I loved Fizzies and associate them with lovely days at my grandparents' house. Other than that, in the grand tradition of DR Laura, i have nothing to say.

Patrick Cassidy was also the first man to show his bare backside on network television during the short lived TV series Bay City Blues from NBC in 1983.
Patrick Cassidy was also in the haunting, beautiful, terribly sad but ultimately uplifting movie, Longtime Companion. I can't make it throught that movie without tears.

Good morning/afternoon all. I am staying home today and spending the day in bed. Last night I got hit by a horrible stomach bug...either food poisoning or illness, not sure which. Either way, it resulted in some miserable hours in the bathroom and today I feel as though every inch of my lower body has been pummeled. I'm really hoping to be back on my feet by the time I have to get DS Toby from daycare.

After Patrick's last tour in "Joseph" he swored he'd never take another job where he had to take his shirt off on stage. He lied! The photo below is from "I Love My Wife," which he did for Reprise! last year with Jason Alexander, Leah Thompson, and Vicki Lewis. It was a hysterically funny show! It's probably our favorite of all of Patrick's work. The whole cast was amazing. And we've become very big Vicki Lewis fans, as we've loved every show we've seen her in. She really has an amazing voice. She's coming out with her first CD this Fall, which I'm very much looking forward to.
-
Super fast get well vibes for DR Ann!

DR Michael S. I suggest you begin carrying Benadryl with you just in case you have another reaction. I buy the Tylenol PM caplets & cut a few in half, reducing the dosage & the chance I’ll fall asleep when I don’t want to.

From Miss Karen:
DR Jane ~ Love it! How did you know what Deuce looks like?! Very, very close -- only thing are the ears, Deuce's are much smaller. But the face -- I've seen that look before -- especially the eyes. Perfect cake picture for my BD. Thanks!
I only knew you would like the dog, got luck with the almost match :)

I mentioned this yesterday and also that his soap opera actor character kissed Brent Barrett in one memorable scene.

I watched last night's RESCUE ME while I ate lunch. Tommy with his women has gotten tired after six seasons, but there were some other strong scenes that I enjoyed.
-
Then I watched THE TOWERING INFERNO. This is one VERY long movie. They keep up the momentum; there is always something happening to hold one's attention, but it is LONG.
-
DR Sam I hope the transfers went well.
I’m shocked your neighbor’s aren’t speaking to you. Heck you could have called the police instead of complaining.
-
There are THREE commentaries. The first is a running commentary that isn't very interesting. The other two are scene specific commentaries featuring a modern-day FX coordinator and a modern-day stunt coordinator describing scenes with great FX or action. The action one is the better of those two. The FX guy just describes what we're looking at and guesses at how they might have done it. Very dull.
-
I zipped quickly through the list of additional bonus features, and it looks like exactly what I watched on DVD two weeks ago in anticipation of this disc's arrival. There don't appear to be any extras that I haven't seen, but as I was running late to get on-line, I'll check again when I go back downstairs.
-
I have nothing to say.
-
That said, it's never stopped me before.

Yesterday we went with another couple & saw Harry Potter. Keith, who has not followed the books, enjoyed it the least. The rest of us enjoyed it much more. I would not agree with people who think it is a great movie, nor did I find it as entertaining as some of the earlier ones. I still enjoyed it, it was Harry Potter & pretty much what I expected. I liked Michael Gambon & think Alan Rickman is perfect as Snape. I find the girl who plays Ginny to be greatly lacking. Keith even asked about her. I have a suspicion the director should be spending more time with her, or his vision of Ginny & mine are different.
-
I have nothing to say.
And you said it very well!
;)
-
Now I must hop off-line and get some writing done. Then, it's back down to check out the rest of the bonus features on TOWERING INFERNO and then catch up with today's soaps.

And I just reviewed the new Infinity re-release of Volume 1 of the Judy Garland Show, where the third episode they taped was Liza's "national debut", and she of course sang with Judy on that one.

My doctor told me not to take Tylenol PM. He said if I needed to sleep, I should use straight Benadryl - but avoid Tylenol.
-
DR TCB I agree not to take Tylenol PM as a sleeping pill, this is the only way I know how to get half a dose if I have a food allergy, or any other allergic reaction. Unless Michael S. takes a lot of Tylenol half a PM caplet won't be a problem on the rare occasion.

I saw Debbie Reynolds live many years ago when she did a show at our Benedum Center with Donald O'Connor. That was a great evening!
Debbie just finished a New York City engagement, which I have listened to. . .she's a naughty old broad now, and I do mean naughty. I'm gonna try to go see Ms. Reynolds on Sunday, the venue looks marvelous. But, from Cafe Carlyle to The Strand is quite a leap. . .

I believe CBS, NBC and ABC are all showing the president at 8pm. Fox is showing SYTYCD (8-10pm).
Yes, but I believe Obama is making a special guest appearance on that show, too.

"mom's" jeans! I find that insulting. I also have to wonder why the heck they want him to wear good jeans to play baseball. I think wearing old jeans was a wise decision, and he seems to be wearing a top over the waist. I can't believe I'm defending Obama-lol.

I would not agree with people who think it is a great movie, nor did I find it as entertaining as some of the earlier ones. I still enjoyed it, it was Harry Potter & pretty much what I expected.
It was, arguably, the weakest of the books - a necssary set-up for "Ghostly Hallows"; it has the highest exposition -to-action ratio of any of the books.

ASK BK DAY:
We have all read and heard stories about Danny Bonaduce's childhood; hell we have heard stories about his adult life too. What was Danny like on THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY? Any truth to the stories that as a kid he never bathed or showered?
Danny and I got along well and I never really saw his bad side. Certainly I never noticed the not bathing thing - he always seemed fine to me.

Back from a very good work session, a quick sandwich at Jerry's, and everything is now ready for CDs to be shipped in the morning (I'll be doing it all myself) and my work is done for the day. I'm feeling better today and last Monday's event is subsiding in my cranium.

I do wish our President did his homework before making irrational suggestions in nationwide speeches. The idea of banning No-Bid government contracts shows a total ignorance of contracting realities, particularly in the defense arena. In the case of defense hardware, often there is only one qualified supplier available, so you buy from him or you don’t get it! There is a process by which second-sources can be qualified, but it is lengthy and very costly. No-bid contracts are hardly windfalls for companies – they are usually cost-plus fixed percentage fee; the government has audit approval of all costs, including overhead.

I thought all the Fox stations were not showing the President's speech (and directing people to Fox news channel). Well here at least they showed the speech and had SYTYCD from 9-11pm.
It sort of sucks because i don't usually tape the show on fox. The canadian station CTV was carrying it from 8-10pm. Luckily i started watching after 9pm and noticed.

Whew! A full evening of viewing delights.
I began by scanning through all of the bonus items on THE TOWERING INFERNO Blu-ray. Every one of them was in the special edition DVD package which I spent some hours a couple of weeks ago watching and jotting down notes about which saved me HUGE amounts of time tonight.
None of them had been upconverted to HD; they were all in 480i.
-
Next I skimmed through today's soaps. I began with THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS where Adam was scheming as usual. Nothing about his "bisexuality" today, but the previews seem to suggest it's going to be an issue tomorrow.
-
Next up was AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing of interest, but Luke was in the previews for tomorrow dropping a bombshell on his parents.
-
ONE LIFE TO LIFE did feature both Kyle and Fish segments today; hopefully, they'll continue with it tomorrow.
-
Next I watched Monday night's MY LIFE ON THE D-LIST. Kathy goes to Harlem was the gist of the episode. Oh, I did feel for her once she put her foot in her mouth during her act!
-
Since it was cued up, I watched the season finale episode from season one of VERONICA MARS. A very exciting episode (even for me who had seen it already) with some great surprises.
Now that review material is coming in again on a fairly regular basis, I don't guess I'll be starting season two of VERONICA MARS or the MURDER SHE WROTE season 10 set which I got from the Deep Discount sale. Looks like I'll barely have time to get summer TV shows watched when I have some free time.
-
I completed my evening viewing with tonight's TORCHWOOD episode. Some creepy stuff and big cliffhanger ending making it maddening to have to wait until tomorrow night for some answers. Argh!
-
I'm watching Lost episodes and trying to finish disc five by the end of this evening. I may not make the final episode of disc five, though, as I have some listening to do to the new Kritzerland CD master, which has to go to the plant tomorrow.
-

Good news about Woody, derBrucer.

Sorry about health issues, DR Michael Shayne. Hope everything is back to normal and there is no recurrence of the problem.
Hope DR Elmore is also healing and improving.
Glad to read about DR SWW's improvement. Hope it continues.
Since I was okay today it had to be an allergic reaction to what I ate. I am generally not allergic to foods except being lactose intolerant so it was a major surprise.
-
That sounds very scary DR Michael Shayne. Glad you are okay.
I glad it happened when it did as I am on my way to Montreal for a visit and I didn't want to be sick when I went there
-
DR Michael S - do you know what caused your reaction so that you can avoid it in the future? Hope you're feeling better today!
I really didn't know what caused it. There was frighteningly way too many ingredients on the package for what was supposed to be chicken catchatorre (sp?) But it had to be something or a combination of ingredients that caused it

DR Michael S. I suggest you begin carrying Benadryl with you just in case you have another reaction. I buy the Tylenol PM caplets & cut a few in half, reducing the dosage & the chance I’ll fall asleep when I don’t want to.
It might be a good idea to do so, but I don't plan to eat that again. Tylenol PM is way too powerful. Even cutting it in half it zonks me out the next day. I use it when I battle insomina
UPDATE
I read additional postings after I posted the above.
I should clarify I no longer use Tylenol PM as a sleeping aid.
But I would be affraid to use it would put me to sleep just as the Benedryl did

We had a huge thunderstorm while I was trying to get my TOWERING INFERNO review written and uploaded. I know I SHOULD have shut off the computer and waited, but I wanted to get it done. I was saving everything like mad as I was going in case there was a power outage.

And now I'm really feeling exhausted, so I'm heading downstairs to go to bed.

DR Michael S - Glad to hear that your feeling and looking better. Is it possible that your allergic reaction was the result of something you ate before the chicken cacciatore? Or is it possibly you may have gotten bit by something? I know I've had "surprise" reactions from big bites before.

I did speak to DR elmore earlier this afternoon. He's doing OK, and he even got out of his apartment for a little while today to run down to the store. He has a doctor's appointment in the morning, and, hopefully, a more definite diagnosis will be able to be made. -At the very least, he and his doctor are hoping the that x-ray lab finally sends over his x-rays which were taken last week.

Thanks for the correct spelling :-)
I did not have anything to eat prior and I do not believe I was bitten.
It started off with a headache (Thought it might be a reaction to MSG) took two generic headache pills.
Then I had trouble seeing I was doing a crossword puzzle. The arm started to shake and I really felt lousy. I didn't know the left side of my face was distorted until a co-worker told me. Went to the bathroom to put water on my face and the next thing I knew I was looking up at the ceiling. After I got up is when I decided to seek medical attention.
I hope it was the first and only time this will happen to me.

-
On a related health note...
It's been a bit "scary" reading up on the latest outbreaks of the Swine Flu in various parts of the country. My brother, Mike, who works at Coast Guard HQ in DC was telling me about the outbreak affecting the current class of "swabs" - first years - at the Coast Guard Academy: 30 confirmed cases so far. The Air Force Academy has also reported 103 cases among their incoming cadet class. And the NIH started their "volunteer" program today for the latest vaccine. So...
Stay healthy everyone!

DR Michael S - You're welcome.
Since a part of your face was affected, you may want to do a spot check to see if you have any sort of bite. However, was the chicken cacciatore you ate a frozen meal? If so, you may want to give the company's consumer hotline a call to report your allergic reaction - and also to see if they might know of any possible allergens in the meal.
Did the doctor(s) check your blood pressure?

I'm planning a quick jaunt to Pittsburgh to see COPACABANA next Thuirsday. It's a show I've long wanted to see, and the main review (by critic Alice Carter) seems to find it very entertaining.

Today's visit to ICU was kind of a downer. No change for John, except they have him upright in some kind of special chair. His wife and daughters are pretty discouraged.
DR Ginny - After my mom had her bypass last fall, we were told that it could take anywhere from 48 hours to even two weeks for her to fully wake up after the surgery. It's quite an invasive procedure, and quite a shock to the body. To quote a cliché: Time heals all wounds. Just give it - and him - time.
-
td, have you seen COPACABANA or heard any reactions to it?

Well, I did go back to the office and didn't get home until about 11:00 PM.. I got a lot done but have a lot to do in the morning before my appointments start coming in, so I better get some rest. Good to be busy again

I wonder if they're still using the same set and costumes they used for their original production a few years. Quite extravagant and quite appropriate.
*And I've always had a soft spot for "Just Arrived" - such a great "entrance" song. And "Copa Girl" is a great "old broad" song.

Couldn't I just have a salad?
Actually, you can get a salad at Moaz, however, I believe they call it a "bowl" or a "box". -Which was one of the things that confused me about the format of their menu.
Now, as for Brent Barrett, well... ???
-
Jose - I'll be flying, assuming the weather cooperates.
Any hotel recommendations in easy walking distance of the theater? I'm thinking the Westin sounds nice.
-
DR JOSE did you get to see Adam at Duplex last night?
DR JRand - Sadly I did not. And it/he was on my calendar. :-\
-
DR Amy - Catching up on the Brothers Cassidy discussion from yesterday...
I really liked the short-lived series, "American Gothic", that Shaun Cassidy created.
-That is all.
-
OK - Since I have to start getting my body back on some semblance of a regular wake and sleep schedule...
Goodnight.
-
Good evening everyone.
