Looking forward to hearing that entire CD through the Big Speakers.

BK - For those in both Indiegogos, this will come off just the L.A. one, right?

After getting too little sleep last night, I slept in today and I'm feeling pretty good at the moment. After another cuppa coffee, I think I'll be ready for my day.

My baby brother Randy turns 59 today. I wish him the best.  I still remember moments from Sunday, June 16, 1957: it was late in the afternoon and school was out for the summer,  with the sudden rush of activity around the house when my mother went into labor my brother Macbeth and I were like posts in a pinball machine watching the balls spin past us. My mother, happy to be the center of attention, had made phone calls to her sisters to get her ready for hospital, the emergency overnight bag was to be reconsidered, my dad took Macbeth and me to our grandmother's house on Tenth Avenue.  I remember that M and I slept in our grandmother's double bed in her bedroom on the second floor.  I never liked the room; there was something about it that terrified me. The next morning, we were told we had a healthy new brother. born in the early morning of June 17.

Sounds like your grandmother's room could be good for a chapter in the memoirs, DR Elmore.

Yes, if you contributed to Indiegogo for the LA show at the CD perk level, that's how you'll receive this.  It won't count against your other contribution and you won't receive two copies.

That house was haunted and there were several ghosts, I suspect, although my family had only seen the lady in the white dress that appeared on the stairs to the second floor.  As a child, I was terrified of something I feared was hiding in my grandmother's large closet in her bedroom, something really nasty that lurked in the basement, and that stairwell.  The kitchen and living room were safe zones.

TOD:  Mix tapes and CD's and ITunes on Shuffle (which usually contain a healthy dose of cuts from numerous Varese Sarabande, Fynsworth Alley and Kritzerland recordings).

TOD:

I'd been wanting to ketchup on the films of (Mother) Dolores Hart, and it had been ages since I'd watched Where the Boys Are with any kind of attention being paid, so I spun that one and...oh my goodness.  To see it now and recall how "notorious" it was in its day, at least for the likes of my family and their friends... well, so were movies like Peyton Place and Butterfield Eight.  We (us kids) were simply not allowed to see those movies at that time.  But Boys is a hoot in how it so totally does NOT depict the true Spring Break world, the true Fort Lauderdale (except for the most basic beach shots), or the teenage/college age world...AT ALL.  It must surely have seemed quaint to many even when new.  But it mentions "sex", and that apparently turned the world upside down.

Even though we didn't see it, the movie sort of resonated with us, as my family had moved from Columbus to Fort Lauderdale in October 1960, and this opened and premiered in all of its notoriety right there at the Gateway Theatre (which happily still exists) in December.  We felt a certain connection to it even while shunning it.  Anyway, it held my interest and Ms. Hart is lovely, as is the young Paula Prentiss who is actually more charming in this than in many later roles.  Connie Francis' musical contribution is iconic, of course, but she fares the least well in appearing at the age these "kids" supposedly are.  But every teen/college film in those years suffers in that way.

The other Hart film was Come Fly With Me which I had somehow managed to miss throughout the years.  It only recently became available on a Warner Archive DVD-R, so I grabbed it and had my way with it last night -- my way with it including having to kick brightness and contrast levels up several notches just to make it watchable.  It's a dark and murky transfer, and you get used to it after a few minutes, but man, you gotta wonder what happened.  No matter, you get what you get with those Archive releases and I'm glad to have it.  This was more "innocent" than I expected, given the Mad Men-era Pan Am-ish theme.  Very very interesting.  And it's quite something to see Ms. Hart's final shot, knowing that shortly following that she was taking her one-way drive up to the Abbey.

I watched COME FLY WITH ME on TCM the other day....it was rather notorious in its time as well.  What struck me most was how pretty Pamela Tiffin was - though heaven knows she was NO actress in ANY of her films - and how much OLDER Lois Nettleton looked than both Tiffen and Hart....she looked old enough to be their mother!

And their love interests weren't so hot either.....Karl Malden, Hugh O'Brien, and Hart Bochner.....seems like a lot of playing out their contracts players were involved in this particular opus.....

Other films watched in this curious week included Peter Bogdanovich's romantic comedy They All Laughed, a most curious film.  I was charmed by it when I first saw it a couple of times in Westwood, and I don't think I'd seen it since.  Seeing it now, I think I wasn't in the groove for being so charmed, but it's such an interesting film that there's plenty to hold one's attention.  It needs to be returned to while listening to PB's commentary and interviews about the unique circumstances of his life at that time, all of which inform the film itself.  They shot heavily on location, so there are some great ca-1980 views of NYC.

I don't have the Presley film Loving You and I don't recall that I've ever seen it.  It's never been released on home video in the post-laserdisc era, so I might have to grab the LD on eBay one of these days.  But I have King Creole which will be my next Hart.
