Can someone tell me what is the theme of the game show THE MATCH GAME (with Gene Rayburn). For years, I thought it was "The Baby Elephant Walk," but I know now that it isn't. But what is?

On my way back and forth to the restaurant, I enjoyed listening to FADE OUT - FADE IN. It's easy to hear why it isn't a highly regarded Jule Styne score, but there are pleasures in it. My favorite song is "The Usher in the Mezzanine."

Once home, I spent the remainder of this afternoon finishing up the four remaining episodes of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN - Season 3. I also watched the rather lame tribute to Noel Neill and "Stamp Day for Superman" which looks far worse than any of the episodes in the rest of the set. I know this episode was in the public domain (I have it on a videotape that looks second or third generation, and the DVD does look better than that), but it's grainy and has a fair amount of scracthes.

Don't know when I'll get to THE SINGING DETECTIVE. There is so much else that takes precidence over it on my viewing list.

I remember reading some not that terrible reviews of it, but it certainly died at the box-office. Every review to a person said it couldn't compare to the British series.

DR Jennifer, I know you and some others who watch the show will be interested in this press release I read just now on the net:

" Filming has begun on the second season of TNT's top-rated crime drama, The Closer, starring Kyra Sedgwick. Season two premieres summer, 2006. "

In regards to an earlier post of Matt and the picture on the Deceit page...

I knew I had seen that expression before

Hmmmm...I didn't know it had lyrics.   ;D  Interesting.
I can't imagine any lyrics at all!
Very odd.
Perhaps there were two words - rather like Mr Mack David's contribution to Hawaii's score!

I meant to mention that the others are MY NAME IS BARBRA, COLOR ME BARBRA, THE BELLE OF 14th STREET, A HAPPENING IN CENTRAL PARK, and the aforementioned OTHER MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.

Topic of the Day:  I bought the Barbra 5-DVD pack at Costco shortly after it was released and I haven't watched it yet, either.  Hopefully, this weekend!

In my CD player:  tonight, I'm working concessions at a concert by The Pointer Sisters here in Olympia, and in honor of that, I have my one and only Pointer Sisters album:  The Pointer Sisters in Ain't Misbehavin'!  It's only one disc, but it's pretty good!  After that will be the rest of The Color Purple.  I actually should listen to that first since I only have four more tracks till it's done.

In my VCR:  tapes to tape all of tonight's shows on several channels...all six and a half hours' worth!

BABY ELEPHANT WALK

Music by Henry Mancini
Lyrics by Hal David

Make believe you're in a jungle movie.
Watch the baby elephants go by.
The beat is groovy.
It's a brand new dance you ought to try,
Come to the jungle and see the animal attraction,
baby elephants in action walk.

See the big baboon beat on the bongo
as the baby elephants advance.
Down in the Congo,
all the swinging monkeys do this dance,
Come to the jungle and see the animal attraction.
Baby elephants in action walk.

If you plan on joining a safari,
don't get dressed for going on a cruise.
The thing to carry is an extra pair of dancing shoes.
Come to the jungle and see the animal attraction.
Baby elephants in action walk.

DR MATTH - I think that Match Game theme you are thinking of is Swingin' Safari!  I have it on a Billy Vaughn CD.

THE CLOSER is one of the most engrossing of the newest genre of crime procedurals on TV. What makes it special is that the squad that works under her doesn't like her much (at least, some of them don't like her), and she has to fight for respect with each new case. I can't think of any other network TV that has had the leading investigator, successful though he or she may be, having to work so hard to earn even grudging respect from her peers.

I think you're referring to the original Match Game.  The theme used was "A Swingin' Safari" by Bert Kaempfert.  I had the recording when I was a twig; it was the recording that made me realize that music could be lifted from one source and used elsewhere.

All in the timing, JRand!  Different recording, but you got there first.

I saw the ratings from last night's face-off between DANCING WITH THE STARS and SURVIVOR. And it's a photo finish.

DANCING WITH THE STARS had more households tuned it during the hour that they faced off against each other, but SURVIVOR had about 1.5 million more viewers and won in the age 19-49 category that the networks prize so much.

But both did very well at the expense of WILL & GRACE/FOUR KINGS, SMALLVILLE, and THE O.C., each of which lost about a million viewers from last week.

Bert Kaempfert composed it and had a hit single.... (there's a name you don't hear everyday) - you can hear a snippet at Amazon at the link below.     8)

Well, now I must head down to do that disliked Friday chore, and then I'll settle in with some TV on DVR and network.

LOL...DR SWW - I had forgotten about BK (interesting initials) until I started looking for a WAV file.....he did some great stuff!

Now of course I want to buy some of his CD's.  I first heard it on a Reader's Digest collection of songs....I think I still have the LP's ... and I also remember thinking....they used that on TV!!!

I remember the stars all walking out to that bouncy theme....especially Jayne Mansfield who could BOUNCE with the best of them....

I've been very e & t lately, and I know it.  Some of it is der Brucer's fault.  Most of it is the fault of a cold that has caught me.  Oddly, I cannot connect any of the blame to Jose.

I have much catching up to do.

Evey record store seemed to be playing the album of the same name back in the early sixties.. The album sold so well but the hit single here was by Billy Vaughn as it was in the USA.  Strange but true!!
