Well, you've read the notes, the notes had no real [titles] built in, and now it is time for you to post until the [titled] cows come home.

Good morning, all! I slept rather well and I was out of bed at 5:30; it's another morning at th NYU Dental Clinic,  then I will check on Toyland to see if it's still there, and then I will head up to Columbus Circle and meet my friend Rosemary Ashe.

Dear JRand60, I asked Trude Rittman why all the dance music in "The Lusty Month of May" kept changing rhythms and her replay was "Hanya Holm could never count."

I've had my coffee, and I need some breakfast.

TOD: Robin Wagner's sets for "On the 20th Century" remain far above most anything I can remember. The sets and lighting for "Sunday in the Park with George" were also stunning. I also remember liking the lighting for "Big Deal" a lot, too.

For non-musicals, there was a set for "Morning's at Seven" at Actor's Theater of Louisville that was superb, down to the running water in the off-stage kitchens and the just the right illusion that all's right in the wonderful world of those sisters.

Laura, to offer an opinion on your question from yesterday, I agree that it would tough to revive Brigadoon on Broadway, but I think it would be a good TV production, if you had the right people.  As much as I enjoyed the TV version, it wasn't as good as it should have been and neither was the Gene Kelly version.

Hmmmm....for me Brigadoon is a pretty boring show with some crazy accents.....and one or two nice songs....a revival....on Broadway....I wouldn't invest in it....but someone might....

I would hate to think about a "rethinking" of the material.....it might be disastrous - but there is somebody out there with a "concept", I am sure.

DR MBARNUM - I have Ms Rita Pavone's album from years ago....and saw her on The Ed Sullivan Show.....she sang a very strange version of "Remember Me" in English that was....very strange.....

I think she probably wanted to hit the director of the show with that hammer, and she messes up her lip synching toward the end....but fun!  But she was plain looking.

It could be set in a post-apocalyptic future--2147!  Brigadoon reappears after another hundred years absence. The Earth is now overrun with irradiated flesh-eating zombies.  Only a few pockets of humanity survive.  Two human eco-scientist/soldiers stumble upon Brigadoon and rediscover simple basic pleasures such as dancing and falling in love.  They must decide whether to join the citizens of Brigadoon and remain with them forever or to harvest their body parts to guarantee the continuation of the human species.

I think this game originated with an old New York Magazine competition.  It was done on Twitter about a week ago.  Some of mine were:

THE KING AND I LOVE MY WIFE -- The King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson affair told from the point of view of her husband.
KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN OF THE YEAR -- A Brazilian prisoner is obsessed with T. V. Carpio.
AGNES OF GODSPELL -- A young novice claims she is carrying the unborn child of Don Scardino. (this was a cheat--play and a musical.  Oh, well...)

After seeing SLEEPY HOLLOW with that beautiful scene where Ichabod finds Tina in that ruined house, I thought he would be a great director for a new film of BRIGADOON.

There was an attempt 2 or 3 years ago to do a "Riverdance" production with Rob Ashford(?) as choreographer and all new "Celtic" orchestrations instead ofg those great 1940s originals; it looked dreadful!

Toyland is in fine shape. Miss Ashe and I meet at noon.

I am way behind in discovering her...but I just ordered the region 2 of her musical western LITTLE RITA OF THE WEST which co-starrs that blue eyed Italian hunk Terrence Hill, as well as my old buddy Gordon Mitchell.

Even if the movie sucks, Terence Hill will more then make it worth watching.

I wasn't going to weigh myself today, but decided to. I sort of thought I might have lost the 10lbs i'd put on while i was sick. Not quite. I lost a solid 5. But I've been exercising a lot (1-2 hours a day). So i think some of the weight is muscle. Cause I feel like I am at least back to where i was.

I can't believe how hard it is.

Nope, I honestly thought someone must have mentioned Elaine's death, leading to the discussion of BRIGADOON.  What I meant by missing a post is I must have missed the actual post that started the BRIGADOON conversation.

And she was married to Merrill Heatter.

From Jennifer:
Quote
Bk, I'm sure you must have said this before, but why do you only like to eat only one meal a day when you are on a diet? I've never heard of such a thing. I could never survive. I like to eat lots of fruits and vegetables. And eat at least 3 times a day.

What you do Jennifer is not really diet but to improve your eating habits & life style which in turns takes of the pounds.  It is also easier to maintain your weight once you lose the excess.

The good news:
The long list of things they found wrong suggests they found what is causing the car's troubles. I hope so! The car is ten years old and has a (ah-hem) ding in one side, but I'm not prepared right now to replace it. I hope it will soon run well again...I hope...I hope...

Here's my New York report:  I got to Union Station in DC in plenty of time for my Boltbus.  Unfortunately, it left an hour late and took over an hour longer than scheduled.  I got to my hotel at about 6 pm.

Since I  wasn't really sure how to go by subway and didn't have a lot of time to get lost, I took a cab to the Gramercy Theater for Celebrity Autobiography.  The show consists of actors/comedians reading excerpts from autobiogaphies of famous people, without changing a word.   It was really funny.   The "readers" were Sharon Gless, Michael Urie, Mario Cantone, Mo Rocca, Rachel Dratch, Kristen Johnston and the two people who came up with the idea.

Mario Cantone did some great impressions of Liza, Barbra and Richard Burton.  Rachel Dratch was very funny reading Ethel Merman's book.  Oh , and Mario read from Susan Lucci's book --it was about the night she won her Emmy Award.   The finale consisted of the books of Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor and Eddie Fisher being read.   They wrote about the same incident but had different versions.    I think Ivana Trump's would win for most obnoxious---she says something like she's a regular person even though she can go anywhere she wants and buy whatever she fancies.

It was  almost 10 pm when the show was over and I had to make my way to Silence, the Musical.

I took another cab to the Theater 80 St Marks for Silence, the Musical.   I got to the theatre shortly after 10--the 8 pm audience was just leaving at about 10:20!   I don't know how the actors do two shows so close together.

What can I say about the show?  It's hilarious and outrageous.  I can't even write the titles of some of the songs, since this is a family site!   The whole cast is hilarious.   Brent sounded great and was very funny.  The show is really focused on the lead actress, though, who plays Clarice.  Her name is Jenn Harris --I'm laughing to myself right now just thinking about her.   She does an exaggerated impersonation of Jodie Foster from the movie, along with her pronunciation of  "sh" for "s, " as in "yesh."   I really wish I had seen the movie more recently so I would have gotten more of the references.

I saw Brent only briefly after the show, since by now it was about 1 a.m.

On Sunday I tried my luck at the Book of Mormon lottery, but lost.  I think I"ve entered the Wicked lottery about 25 times and have never won, so I'm used to not winning.

I went to see The Normal Heart matinee.  It really is a powerful play.  The acting was terrific.    When the cast came out for the curtain call, not one smiled.   Of course it was appropriate, but it was just so unusual to see that when people are cheering and applauding.

Later I went to see Master Class , which is in previews.   It stars Tyne Daly and Sierra Boggess.  I didn't really know what to expect.  I had a vague idea of what it was about, but didn't realize that "Maria Callas" would be talking to the audience as if they were students!  The show was very enjoyable and Sierra really showed off her lovely voice.   For those interested, here she is singing  with Julian Ovenden, who's now in Death Takes a Holiday:

Speaking of BRIGADOON (the film version), one of it's stars, actress Elaine Stewart, passed away yesterday at age 81 in Beverly Hills. She had been ill for quite some time.

I would pay to see that! Toss in a vampire or two and some Frank Wildhorn updates.

I thought this was why we were discussing Brigadoon--must have missed a post again.  :)

Ok, I find no mention of Elaine Stewart's death in yesterday's posts about Brigadoon. ARe you trying to gaslight me?

Nope, I honestly thought someone must have mentioned Elaine's death, leading to the discussion of BRIGADOON.  What I meant by missing a post is I must have missed the actual post that started the BRIGADOON conversation.

And she was married to Merrill Heatter.
The Brigadoon posts started when Peter Falk died and Matthew S posted a link to the TV version with Falk, Robert Goulet and Sally Ann Howes. But, death did have something to do with it.

Didn't DR Laura start the Brigadoon discussion by asking if it would be a good candidate for a Broadway revival?

No, it started yesterday with the discussion of the TV version.  Following the discussion of Peter Falk's death.

I haven't thought about this in a LONG time, but many years ago, a couple of friends of mine would do a fake "reunion" cabaret act that they called, The Sound of Music Man of La Mancha.  In their "act," they would talk about how this was the first time that they had gotten together since they broke up years ago.  What was really funny was that it was almost totally improvised!  They would talk about their "act" and just go musically where their ramblings led them.  They mainly did songs from the three shows, but not exclusively.  And they'd also ask a member of the audience to come up and sing with them, but unbeknownst to the rest of the audience, that person was actually part of the show and totally in on it.  It was hysterical! ;D

Back from a sandwich and fries.  I decided I needed some fries as a treat, so I had the small fries.  I've just been eating so few calories over the last few days, under 1000, so today I probably did 1500 all in, and then I probably jogged 150 of them off, since I did the short jog.  That's still few enough to lose and, as I've said, the last week has been very frustrating with how slow the weight is coming off, so I needed to not starve today.

Sorry to be E &T,  tonight I stained the south side of the garage.  Now everything you can see from the road is done.  We're supposed to have a  heat wave starting tomorrow, so I'll stop until it breaks, but I'm really glad to get this much done.  I only worked about an hour and a half, but that seems to be about the point I can quit without feeling tired at all.  I also put all the garabage out at the road, including all the carpet and padding and tack strip. I will be very glad to have it gone and not in my garage!

Dang just missed Ginny. :/

GINNY WHEN YOU READ THIS, THANK YOU DESPERATELY FOR THE CARD!!! I LOVE IT, IT'S SO CUTE AND i CAN'T BELIEVE YOU REMEMBERED MY GRADUATION. :') And I can't wait to use the book card.

NO BARNES AND NOBLES IS SAFE FROM MY CONQUEST.

Also, I will be in the city tomorrow with friends. So if you see me, come over and say hi. :) I'll be going to see Sister Act with three guy friends, (No, THEY asked ME, not the other way around, actually. O_O) and popping into Johns Pizza hopefully and maybe the nintendo store. Also, I was there today and got to watch three friends who'd never been in side the marriot experience the full "Glass Elevator" experiance. Took them to the top floor and back to the ground, and they LOVED it. except one time, where we were in a middle one with my friends family (They were coming to support her mother at Romantic Novel Con. SUPPORT MAGGIE VAN WELL!! ^^) And well.... we broke it. it closed, stoped, opened so we could see that we were no longer level with the floor and soewhat below it, and closed again. Only lasted a few minutes, but my friend nearly had a clausterphobic attack. Other then that, I have discovered that, yes, Long Island Five Guys is better then New York City Five Guys burgers. And to avoid skateboarders since they have no manners. And that I am the only one who actually knows when to jay walk, how to NOT get hit by an s.u.v. every  three minutes, and how to get back to the trains when it is time to go home. Hope everyone's had a nice day. Good night. :)
