CANASTA

Well, you've read the notes, the notes played like pinochle, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently playing strip poker and it's not pretty.

I've never played canasta and I don't think anyone in my family has ever played canasta.  I vaguely remember some people that I know mentioning that they played canasta, but it was years ago and I don't remember who they were.

I've played a lot of card games, but never canasta.    A lot of people around here still play bridge

I know plenty of people who still play Hearts.  Pinochle and Canasta, not so much.

So if bk attended a Pinochle/Canasta party at which Churros were served, would he laugh and laugh and laugh?

I see that they are not doubling the narrator and the professor.

Nope.  Instead, they are doubling Narrator / Ensemble 9.

Thanks for posting. I've been meaning to do that.

Couple of interesting changes from the stage version

Liliane La Fleur is no longer a producer but Guido's agent and possibly no longer French as Judi Dench (who plays the part) does not do it with a French accent.

I wonder if that means Follies Bergeres has been dropped

And men other than gudio appear init

NINE concept is a little like Chicago as all the musical numbers are seen through Roxie's eyes and imagination.

This time the film's conceit is that it takes place on a movie set as he looks back on his past and what is going on in the present. The songs are Guido's vision and not character "stopping to sing" as in the stage version

I do not know, DR Druxy.  I simply swiped it shamelessly from the TAO "Brain" Facebook page.

I have a technical question about Home Theater Systems that, hopefully, somebody on this board can help me with.

Lately, I've been having a bit of an intermittent problem with my suround sound system.

What happens?

Every now-and-then, the dialogue drops and gets a little staticy.  This will last for a very few seconds, up to a minute or two.  Then everything is okay.  Awhile later, it may (or may not) happen again...then its okay again.

At first, I thought it was a problem with particular discs, since this was only happening with newer titles that came from a particular company.  Then, I put on an older disc last night, from another company, and, for a time, the same thing happened.

This system [Samsung Home Theater] was professionally installed last April, but the problem only started recently.  The house was pre-wired for surround sound.

I'm not sure if the Blu-Ray player has gone bad, or just one of the speakers.  99% of the discs I play are regular DVDs?

Any ideas what might be happening?

Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks.

If you have 5 minutes and the inclination, here is a light-hearted clip of Pavarotti discussing embarrassing moments onstage.

I think that's from IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE.  She made some nice money licensing that image.

Good morning!

Another cool morning, and it's supposed to be a little cooler this afternoon instead of the 90 we had yesterday (my A/C popped on for the first time in a week). Fall can't get here soon enough for me.

DR Druxy,

It sounds like there is a loose wire connection or a bad cable wire for your center channel speaker. Are you in a position to check to make sure of those connections are firmly attached where they need to be - on the back of the speaker and going into the receiver's center channel connection? That would be the first thing I'd check (or get someone who installed it to check for me).

Another day off for me. This morning I'm going to put in the first season of LEVERAGE and watch some episodes (one of which I'll watch as I eat lunch).

This afternoon, I'm going to watch the Bollywood movie DR MBarnum sent me eons ago. It's 142 minutes, so that will take most of the afternoon. If I have time left over this afternoon, I'll likely watch some OUR GANG shorts or more LEVERAGE, depending on how much time I have.

Tonight, it will likely be THIS IS SPINAL TAP on Blu-ray and maybe one of thee Lex Barker Tarzan films. (Can't remember which one came next in the chronology.)

This brand new (as of new IRS rules this year) Sept 15th intensive-mini-tax-season being so close to Labor Day  is getting in the way of my holiday weekend internet watching.   But of course, at this particular point in economic history, I will not complain about there being TOO MUCH work!  I'll just note it, and try to appreciate it.

Hoping to catch up soon!
