As promised, I shall now tell you of the new Kritzerland release. This is for dear reader ears only so let's not spread the word, even though some people on the film music site have already guessed what it is. So, I'm very pleased to announce our very cool new limited edition soundtrack release. It's another Bernard Herrmann two-fer and it's a great one - the original soundtrack recordings for:
TWISTED NERVE and THE BRIDE WORE BLACK
Twisted Nerve reunited the stars and director of The Family Way, Hayley Mills and Hywel Bennett, in a nasty little thriller. It features one of Herrmann's most wonderful main title themes, which was appropriated for use in Tarantino's Kill Bill movies, where it became very popular (the whistling theme). The score is pure Herrmann and it's quite wonderful.
The Bride Wore Black was directed by Francois Truffaut (from a novel by Cornell Woolrich), and starred Jeanne Moreau. Again, Herrmann turned in a wonderful score - very Hitchcockian, which is appropriate since Truffaut's film is a homage to Hitch.
Twisted Nerve was released on one side of an LP (the flip side contained Les Reed's score to Les Bicyclettes de Belsize) and The Bride Wore Black (both films came out in 1968) was issued only on a French 45rpm EP. Both instantly went out of print and were impossible to find - both became holy grails for the Herrmann collector. We present both scores in their album presentations. The CD runs thirty-two minutes, but what minutes they are.
Given that our last Herrmann CD sold out in less than 24 hours, we expect this will do the same, so don't miss out. This is limited to 1200 copies only and I can already tell you that at least 900 of them are spoken for from various dealers. But you dear readers get first crack. The special Christmas price is $17.98 (plus 3.75 shipping in the US - 6.50 overseas). To order, simply go to paypal.com and enter our paypal address of kritzerland at adelphia dot net.
