The soup is cooking. Time to start Dragnet Girl, a silent Japanese film. Great title.

Listening to Hansel Und Gretel - which is completely delightful, I must say.  I began with the Kurt Eichhorn recording with Anna Moffo.  Sounds pretty good.  Then I'll do the Jeffrey Tate then the one in English then the puppet film.

DR John G, your visit to Chez Panisse didn’t register with me in March, but it did today because my book group just read Alice Waters’ Coming to my Senses.  We discussed it virtually Thursday evening and two of our members talked about their experiences there.

How was the book? I haven't read it. Actually I haven't read any of Alice's books or her daughter's, which I hear is great.

It was a lot of her early life and not much about Chez Panisse until near the end.  I just picked up her daughter’s book at the library.  If you’ll PM your email address I’ll forward something you may find interesting.

Here’s a nice kitty. Regal.

Wow! He's beautiful. And huge!

He reminds me of one of my most precious memories. When I was living in Florida, we had a wildlife rehabilitation center in the area. They took in the exotics that the rich would buy and then not know what to do with, such as leopards, large monkeys, you name it. They had a black panther who had a baby, and in the hopes of getting some positive press, they brought the baby to the newspaper office. I got to cuddle the baby. Oh, what a joy. He was an armful, I'll admit, but holding him was indescribable bliss. Somewhere I have a photo of him in my arms. I've looked for that photo, but it's in a folder with other treasured photos and it's filed somewhere where I won't lose it. Right.

That is truly a treasured memory, one that I would love to have for my own.

I just read that Americans consume 15 billion quarts of popcorn per year (which works out to 45 quarts per person).

Keith consumes a lot of pop corn though far less than he used to.

Tomorrow I shall look for a dentist - which will be as difficult as finding the money to pay for the work.....I would guess.  Time will tell.

So biting down on an unpopped kernel is not the cause of your needing new crowns, then.

And the reason Keith eats less popcorn than he used to.

I got a fundraising letter in the mail from The Musical Theater Project.

It was addressed correctly with my name and address, but in the salutation, it starts "Dear Darlene..."

How did they find out my drag name?

No, unfortunately teeth don’t deal well with large amounts of radiation.

Still, I prefer rotten teeth to giving up breathing

Starting a flick called Penelope with Natalie Wood as a bank robber. Peter Falk, Ian Bannen, Lila Kedrova, Jonathan Winters. It will either be wonderful or anything but.

Natalie Wood does her own singing in this one. It may be why I had never heard of it.

Now listening to Jeffrey Tate's version - much wider dynamics than the Eichhorn, which isn't necessarily a plus in my opinion.  But the orchestra playing is superb.  Waiting for the cast to arrive.

Natalie Wood cannot pronounce Givenchy. It's one of the funniest running gags in the movie. I wonder if it were intentional.

A lot of people on Amazon seem to think this is a pretty good book.

Finished the weird stop motion movie of Hansel and Gretel - I'm sure it would be much more enjoyable if it actually looked good.  ChasSmith hinted at it, but this transfer was created for VHS and that's what this looks like - this was a Technicolor movie and should look amazing.  I'm sure they took their tape VHS transfer and stuck it on to this disc and poorly authored it on top of that.  I'm pretty sure this thing is in the public domain.

Got a half hour into the film of A Delicate Balance, and I think I've had it for the evening. Edward Albee screaming is something I can only take so much of, though I loved it with Elaine Stritch the one and only time I saw her.
