I like chocolate and nuts but am kind of a purist. That said, I do love our friend Rachel's fudge. Which reminds me, I need to send some to TCB, who helped come up with the name for her new business: Gem City Sweets.

KEWL!

Congrats to TCB!

Some ideas we're throwing around (a few of these phrases came from the film) and not saying which ones I like or dislike:

Baseball; A Jewish American Love Story

Making It Home (besides the baseball metaphor, the film is about Jews becoming at home in America)

"Big League Jews"

"Not Supposed to be a Ballplayer: Baseball and the American Jewish Experience"

"In the Big Inning: Jews and America's Game"

"Ice Cream Cohens and Rabbis of Swat"

"Jews on First"

Hammerin' Hebrews

"An American Dream: The Remarkable Story of Jews and Baseball"

"An Avenue to Being American: The Remarkable Story of Jews and Baseball."

"The Crack of the Bat: The Remarkable Story of Jews, America and Baseball"

Today we're trying to think of a new name for our film. The original was: JEWS AND BASEBALL: AN AMERICAN LOVE STORY. But the producer has decided he doesn't like that, so we're kicking around ideas. A few of them I've kicked pretty hard!

HANUKKAH & HOMERUNS:  AN AMERICAN LOVE STORY!

LOL not very baseball like with images of dreidel's are floating in my head.

Okay, how about:

I keep forgetting about flax. I hear it's good for you and it doesn't do anything bad to the taste

If you can, look for the toasted ground flax.  We used to be able to buy it here & the market stopped carrying it.

Flax seed/oil is healthier when it's raw, although it tastes better when it's toasted.  I used to add it regularly to my oatmeal, however, I grew tired of the gritty texture of it (the ground stuff).  It also doesn't digest easily, if you get my drift.

So far JEWS ON FIRST seems to be taking the lead. I guess we would need some sort of followup...

Hammerin' Hebrews

"An American Dream: The Remarkable Story of Jews and Baseball"

"An Avenue to Being American: The Remarkable Story of Jews and Baseball."

"The Crack of the Bat: The Remarkable Story of Jews, America and Baseball"

I DO NOT like Big league, ice cream, jews on 1st, or hammerin. I'm not keen on In the big inning or An Avenue.

"The Crack of the Bat: The Remarkable Story of Jews, America and Baseball" has a nice ring to it and is my pick if you change the name.  The more I say it out loud the more I like it.  In fact it is now my 1st choice, followed by the original title or "An American Dream: The Remarkable Story of Jews and Baseball"

Funny how strongly I feel about these. :)  When you are sharing my comments, please don't forget to mention they come from a Jewish gal who loves baseball. ;)

And now for something completely different...I just finished listening to Andrew Lloyd Webber's newest musical, Love Never Dies, the sequel/follow-up to The Phantom of the Opera

Well...it's not bad (most of the music is pretty good...repetitive, but good), but what I thought about most while listening to it was, this is the story that they came up with?? :-\

I'm not sorry that I got it.  I also feel that I needed official recordings of the complete series of songs, "The Heart is Slow to Learn" (actually taken from the DVD), "Our Kind of Love" as it was used in The Beautiful Game and now, "Love Never Dies." ;)

Toasted solves those problems, ground keeps it from getting stuck in my teeth.  I prefer it in dry cereal than in oatmeal.

I was about to type the same thing! I love the reference to Abbott and costello.

I know, but somehow I feel it is making a joke out of Jews.  The others I disliked felt the same to me, only more so.  I really don't think I should mind Jews on 1st, I just do.

I like Crack of the Bat because I can hear the bat & feel the game & the power of the talented players.  This is baseball & not some joke about it.  Edi, are you listening? ;)

On another issue: I vote for nuts. Somehow a brownie seems lacking in something without the flavor and the contrasting texture that nuts provide. i prefer pecans, but walnuts will do in a pinch. And, if you're making brownies and have plenty of self-will, make up the batter and let it set in the refrigerator overnight. The chocolate flavors will intensify. I learned that trick from Alice Medrich, queen of chocolate.

Thanks for the tip, not that I think I have the will power to do it. I shall do my best, once I can bake again.  My brownie recipe uses very little flour & is very rich.  It was from Katharine Hepburn.  Years ago she shared it during an interview.  Her original recipe included walnuts which I immediately removed.

That's the recipe I also use. Love it.

All of the suggested titles, apart from Making It Home, were written by Jews. The reason the producer wants to change it was that he has gotten some negative feedback on the JEWS AND BASEBALL title that it was too harsh and in your face. The film does have a lot of humor in it, and we want people to feel that it would be a fun film to watch. Hammerin' Hebrew was a  nickname for Hank Greenberg as well as Ryan Braun. But I think it's important to note your feelings about it and when we come down to selecting a title it will be good to have that feedback.  Thanks, Jane!

Oh---Ice Cream Cohens were sold when Andy Cohen was a big league star, and The Rabbi of Swat was a nickname for Moses Solomon, taking off from Babe Ruth's "Sultan of Swat" nickname.

Thanks for the feedback & the background on the title suggestions.  Obviously I need to see this, as well as want to, since I didn't know or remember Hank Greenberg's nickname.  That changes my perspective on it.

Don't forget my positive comment that I like Crack of the Bat because I can hear the bat & feel the game & the power of the talented players.  I think it is an exciting name.:)

I guess any title that refers to a BAT mitzvah is out of the question.
