Singdaw- Fascinating article.  I can imagine I wouldn’t have time to stay & listen, considering the location.  I cannot imagine I wouldn’t appreciate the music.

Interesting, isn't it?  I can only hope that I would notice this, if I was walking by...if not, there's something wrong with my priorities!

I'm sure Sherlock would appreciate a good, high violin solo!   :)

For Dr Naomi/Singdaw

....... just a HHW clarification...... the official and all-hallowed gathering space here (courtesy of the hospitality of our host, dear BK) is the Living Room (upper case).  Anything less respectful would be unseemly.

(I know this, because I coined the phrase a few years ago on here).

Of course, you can ignore this, because I'm probably senile by now. :)  As we say at another group that I go to.... "take what you like, and leave the rest."

DR MusicGuy - By all means, please let me know of any such gaffes I may commit.  I certainly don't want to be Unseemly.    :)

Dear Naomi/Singdaw -- How did you ever happen to get a picture of my car mechanic, my gardener, and my pool boy, all standing together at the same place??

Oh, I know..... dear Jose was probably throwing a clothing-optional brunch.

Actually, I found them all lined up outside your door, waiting for their bonus.

International violinist Joshua Bell posed as a street musician in the Washington D.C. subway system.

Slow news day? The article is far too long in my opinion, but it was an interesting stunt and I think makes an interesting point: that for many people art needs some kind of validation to get their attention and recognition.

thanks, Singdaw.

Blood again.
Such crud again.

Besmirched, botheerd and bewildered are we

I don't use "beSmirched".  I'm more of an "am Smirched" sort (i.e., "I am Smirched" rather than I be Smirched").

I know the answer to this one! They price the printer low so that you will buy it. Then they make up the money on the ink.

Absolutely correct!!

My suggestion:  She's saying to him: "Well, sure you can borrow it if you want; it just might fit you, but the color would be all wrong with your complexion..."

Appropro the Joshua Bell incident...

A good friend of mine is a painter and sculptor of some renown--many of his paintings are in museums. We sometimes get together in NY and visit the museums. One day we were at the Guggenheim and there was a group of art students doing sketches from the paintings. It occurred to me: Do they know who he is? No, of course not. They'll assume he's just another tourist. I turned to him and asked, "Are any of your works here at the Guggenheim?" His reply: "Not that I know of," which surprised me as I had assumed that you'd KNOW if your work was there, but of course that isn't true. If one of his works WAS there, well, I'd have to really restrain myself from telling all and sundry.

And my friend looks like a street person, but that's another story!

It WAS self-indulgent!  I, too, wished the writer would just move things along.

Frankly, I think I'd have recognized him.  But if I heard the Bach "Chaconne" being played on a Stradivarius by the likes of Joshua Bell, I'd want someone to SHOOT ME if I didn't stop and burst into tears at the sheer beauty of it all.

I made it through two days at Jury Duty last week. Sat around, never even got called for a panel or nothin'! So that's done.

This is exactly what hgappened to me the last time I was called for jury duty. That was probably ten years ago.

I've gotten a notice every year for the past 6 years.  Have only wasted a day waiting to see if I would go to a jury room for selection.

The other times I've been dismissed by phone.
