Just watched the opening number clip of COMPANY....I just don't like the cast playing instruments....I can't get past it, I don't think.  As another DR said, something has to suffer.....you can get the best musicians AND the best ACTORS....but somehow this way either the acting/singing or the playing has to suffer....  I don't know.....I will watch and see how it all turns out.  I do like the Cast Recording (not as much as the 1970 OCR), but I like some of the songs.

The other problem, which of course all the tin-eared critics ignored, is that when it comes ime for a big climacctic musical number, everyone's singing so the musical forces are drastically reduced in favor of the vocal forces.  Itseemed to me in SWEENEY a lose-lose situation.

Of course, for me, the joke of Doyle's COMPANY, with everyone lurking around in formal attire and carrying an instrument looks like an orchestra on strike.

And in many cases Ebay has brought the price of items down. For instance Vintage Barbies...through the mail and via doll shows or antique shows they used to be priced in the hundreds of dollars...but thanks to Ebay and it has been found that those vintage Barbies are not all that rare and can be found at some darn good prices should one be interested.

On the other hand you can find beat up movie stills starting at $24.99...of course nobody bids on them.

Why am I not surprised you're dealing with vintage Barbies?

I've been on the phone with two absolutely lovely ladies from Fed Ex, one in Fed Ex Freight and one in Fed Ex Ground service, about shipping 43 cartons from NYC to Oxford, OH.  Since I don't have a weight total for the cartons, I'm estimating now around 900 lbs-1200 lbs for the megillah.

Fed Ex Freight estimated a shipping total of $750+ and Fed Ex Ground ran the gamut from $465 (900 lbs) to 560 (1200 lbs).  All were less than I figured, so I'm quite happy at the moment.

I kove the eBay vendors who charge outrageoys prices, claiming "hard to find" or RARE on their item, like a vocal score to CAROUSEL, which is availbale in any good music store.

Thank you Jennifer.  At least after my research I don’t disagree with his medical conclusions, just his lack of ethics and consideration for his patient.

Thanks, DR SingSing! I'm gonna need all the help I can get -- and some "Keep Mizzy K Out of Sunny Vale" vibes as well -- I've been typing away this morning (finally got the thesis plan approved yesterday, and was checked off by the registrar, so I'm officially a thesis student...I'm legit -- it was no fun being illegitimate...) One of my approval folks was on sabbatical so it had really slowed down the process...But now I'm on the Thesis Train!

Congrats on being legit! :)

Some of us don't live close to a good music store.....so getting things by mail is a bonus!!!   ;D

A friend of mine played "the other White Woman" ;) in Smokey Joe's Cafe during Gladys Knight's stint.  She had nothing but lovely things to say about Gladys Knight. Ms. Knight even provided dinner on a regular basis for the cast and crew - most of which she cooked herself!  I was lucky enough to partake of some of Ms. Knight's fried chicken and cornbread on two occasions... That was some "slap yo' Mama" good fried chicken!  :)

My first question for ASK BK day:

Even if you own the DVD or Video, do you still sometimes watch a movie or television show when it is being broadcast?

...Which is sort of like when I would show up for a first rehearsal of a (classic) show with my own copy of the piano/vocal score in hand, and then the music director would ask me, "Oh! Where did you get that?" :-\

Thankfully, those days are over. ;)

I'm hoping we can divide it.

One of my neighbors tells me the firemen were here today to check out the hallway.

Oh, dear, I've discovered a new mystery series with a librarian sleuth:

Jo Dereske's Miss Zukas Mysteries

I've checked out the first three - now do you think we could have a few snow days so I can hibernate and read?

One of my great great great ++, Sir James Stanley, Marshall of Ireland, was married to Anne Hart who had a brother who may be on the Tudors, who knows:

Anne's brother, Sir Percival Hart (1496-1580) was a Knight Harbinger and entertained Queen Elizabeth 1st at his manor of Bark Hart near Orpington.    He was also close to Henry VIII who stood godfather at his sons chrsitening.b

The "Cannibal Carnivore Barbie" line is now quite a collector's item!    ::)
