And the word of the day is: CRABWISE!
And the word of the day is: CRABWISE!
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were Bb and B#, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're trying to sing Bb and B# at the same time ...........
Since when do you get off rehearsal for your birthday???!!!!
And the word of the day is: CRABWISE!Casey would waltz
DR MATTH - sometimes I put on a clean shirt for my brother as well.
I'm up, I'm up, trying to be up enough to jog before heading over to Vinnie's - we'll see.
Re the birthday - to be fair, it was his 21st birthday and apparently the birthday trip and celebration with his family had been planned for six months with airfare purchased and before we'd set our schedule.
I'm seeing my brother tomorrow and not planning on wearing a clean shirt.

I suspect it would take a very brave Charles Isherwood at the NY Times to reverse his opinion on the Doyle COMPANY. This is, I believe, the first show to actually come in to NYC based on an Isherwood NY Times rave for its out of town incarnation, and Isherwood would be diminshing his own power in the business by suggesting that his out of town raves have no reliability. OTOH, maybe Brantley will review the Broadway production.
Company was a disappointment. I'll go into detail later but suffice it to say I think the stripped down Actor as Musician phase of the Broadway musical may be coming to an end after Company opens.Oh, God, I hope so!
It really hit me today. I want December 8th to be here already. I can't believe we have to wait a whole 'nother month for the Brain trip.
I am wearing the shirt I had on last night. But soon I will put on a clean sweater.
Perhaps it was MammaRama!
Listening to Baroque music.
Welcome SingingNymph!
Welcome to Singingnymph! I saw you here earlier when I posted but by the time I hit send, the nymph had flitted away. An MST3K fan as well, I see!
Welcome to new DR SINGING NYMPH!Thank you, thank you & thank you!
I wonder....if these stripped down musical presentations go away, does that mean folks here think full revivals will be done?
Or are you saying you'd rather these shows get no representation at all if the stripped down version is the only thing affordable?
That was a quick visit. My brother has arrived and departed. Now, I'm waiting to hear from best friend John about possible lunch plans.
WBBL.
Page Two THE BLACK CAULDRON Dance!!!Ooh, the cauldron born know how to get funky!
Ben - regarding calling a balcony a balcony: IIRC, the theaters with three levels used to call the upper levels Balcony and 2nd Balcony. But that was long ago, and I think that once "they" decided to charge as much for most of the rear mezzanine as they do for the orchestra, the parlance switched to the nicer-sounding word "mezzanine." The word sounds more welcoming than the harsh-sounding "balcony." But you're right, it IS what used to be called the balcony, no matter how you look at it - it's just marketing.
JRand - there is that line "Your final return will not diminish" from SEESAW (It's not where you start, it's where you finish, etc.)
Jayne and Mamie.....wonder what W I D E S C R E E N process it was filmed in?
Just daintly lasses compared to Marie Wilson (My Friend, Irma)
der Brucer
Welcome to HHW, singingnymph! I now must leave for work. Thanks again!
Have a good day, all!
(Of course, I'll log back in once I get to work, so I really won't be gone for very long. ::))
I hope this new COMPANY, of the same ilk and director, dies a grisly death, the band goes back in the pit, and actors relate to each other again.

Haw! Good one. The other Hillbilly movie was HILLBILLIES IN A HAUNTED HOUSE, which I have never seen.
I know that DR Charles Pogue liked Doyle's SWEENEY TODD in London, but I loathed it; it should have been in an NYU basement "experimental" theatre production for $20, not $100 on Broadway. Watching actors lumber around, instrument in hand, trying to act, trying to play, did nothing to me in telling the story, showing character relationships, or revealing anything more than gimmickry. I was impressed at how well they memorized and played the score, how well they sang and navigated too tiny a space on a Broadway stage as they lugged around a cello, a trumpet, an accordion, or a tuba, for all of Patti Lupone's 10-20 notes she played.
I hope this new COMPANY, of the same ilk and director, dies a grisly death, the band goes back in the pit, and actors relate to each other again.
So...it's more the actor-as-musician thats an issue here as opposed to such things as the more concert-like, but dramatically presented, "Candide" or "Sweeney Todd" done with full orchestra? There are two different issues here:
David Soul had his one number one hit here, but in England, his music career was hugely more popular. I was reminded of this when I saw him in a cameo on the British comedy show LITTLE BRITAIN the other night.
Welcome to new DR SINGING NYMPH!
Nice Thanksgiving avatar, DR DAKOTACELT.
DR DAKOTA CELT - David Soul had a top ten single (and subsequent album) title "Don't Give Up On Us, Baby" which was a nice little tune.
Really?? I never knew.. What song did he have here that was big?
I knew DAvid Hasselhoff and Audrey Landers were big in Europe especially France and Germany...
Thaks for the link to the Soul "Don't Give Up On Us".
It brings back a flood of memories.
Ethel Mae Potter is big all over!
What's for lunch in the rain, DR RLP? We are having chili today.
Here is Mr Soul singing said song....which was a Billboard #1 hit in 1977. ;D

And now back to Christmas!
How are your EBAY sales going, DRMBARNUM?
South Cackalacky
Okay, BK, I'll cut him some slack on the B'day, simply because you knew it was a conflict before he was cast and committed.
Ah, the Fabulous Fox Theater in Atlanta. I saw Richard Harris in CAMELOT there.
Tomovoz is just inches away from post #8500. (Do the 500's count as milestones?)
Love is where you find it.
South Cackalacky ??
Remember FARGO NORTH, DECODER from THE ELECTRIC COMPANY?
Can you imagine someone from New York City who might think South Dakota and North Dakota are wings of The Dakota?
Remember FARGO NORTH, DECODER from THE ELECTRIC COMPANY?
Welcome Singingnymph!Thank you!
Remember FARGO NORTH, DECODER from THE ELECTRIC COMPANY?
Thanks for the clarificiations (and clarity) DR Elmore.
I know your standards are high, and given that you live in NYC, there's an awful lot to live up to for most "presentations." Sadly, as is true in the movie business, those making the decisions and doing the conceptions aren't necessarily gifted enough to be playing with the professionals.
I love the singing in the Lupone-Chenoweth "Candide"...primarily, though, the singing of Chenoweth and the tenor who sings "Candide."
And I find the "Make Our Garden Grow" number thrilling/chilling to hear.
But I can see more finely tuned tastes deploring the ramshackledyness of it all.
I keep starting new pages....I just can't help myself, it seems!
This is a good year for Wood Ducks with 20-30 arriving every morning.
This is a good year for Wood Ducks with 20-30 arriving every morning. They have a game they enjoy playing. They climb out of the pond, march around to the back of the tall reeds and then all at once fly over the reeds back into the pond, some of them diving right in.
Keith put the camera to the telescope lens & too multiple photos, only this one came out.
Here is a picture of one of our residents in the tree outside the new house:
I ended the afternoon
I'll keep the cockatoo - you can keep the snakes.
Love is where you find it.
Yeah, but where is my wristwatch, that's what I want to know
You're just a take-charge guy! And somebody has to do it!
Congrats, Tomovoz and Ron on your milestones!
And now, I'm headed down to clean the bedroom areas and then back for more CSI: NY episodes until tonight's loaded prime-time line-up begins.
Ain't it the truth.:) :)
I laugh at your 8005!
I'll go away for 5 weeks every year or so RLP just to make it easier. Your REAL # posts would be an amazing total by now.
Laughter is the Best Medicine per the Reader's Digest.
Did you see the show in question? She was subdued. Very much so. And very effective.
BTW, wasn't her daughter in the show 12 in 1992? Liza's character could certainly have had a 12 year old in 1992.
I'm seeing my brother tomorrow and not planning on wearing a clean shirt.
Oh, God, I hope so!
I don't have a brother, but my shirt is clean.
Yes, the next conceit in theater is that the entire cast of a musical will be stage orchestrating it as they go!
Welcome Singing Nymph. Do you do part -time work as someone's muse I wonder. Not at the moment (that I'm aware of), but I wouldn't turn down the job. Heh... come to think of it, I wish I had my own.
I like to see a FULL production. When I listen to the LP/CD - I never imagine just a few people on NO set singing the songs.
I know it's expensive and I know sometimes a SMALL production of a favorite show is all we'll get. But I think "better than nothing" is small praise and lowered expectations doesn't always translate into enjoyment...for me, that is.
Lowered Expectations. That is the name of my new book covering the end of the 20th century, and the beginning of the 21st.
JRand56, did you get the Mexican Vampire movies? I haven't yet, but did read some very good reviews.
Edisauris-cool photo.
Tomovoz-you know I never tire of your birds.
Cillaliz-very exciting news! Will you go to NY in February? It’s soooo cold then.
DR RLP - what are the interviews for? I must have missed it?
Sherlock decided I was taking too long to read my book & I need to move onto dog psychology & training books. This morning he shredded the last 15 pages of my book.
Charles Pogue, or anyone, how does THE MISTS OF AVALON end?
Darn Cillaliz, I’m going to miss you in NY again.
When I postponed my trip to the NIH in October I thought I would be returning in April. They really need me to go in December, so while several of the local New Yorkers on in L.A. celebrating Bruce’s birthday I will be on a plane flying to Philadelphia. I will visit my friends there before continuing on to DC. From DC I will fly home, it’s just too time consuming to back track to NY at that time of year.
elmore you are so helpful ??? ;D

That would be great! :D
Maybe the Portland gang will stop by. MBarnum has family here & JMK and family said they will visit u in the summer.
And Penny usually passes through in the summer.
Oh, we could all go to a play in Ashland!!
Were the hand beanies ever offered for sale, I wonder? Was there any merchandising for 5.000 FINGERS? Was it an actual Seuss book?
http://www.playbill.com/news/article/103226.html
Yeah! They finally announced it. Curtains Up: Kander and Ebb Musical to Play Broadway with Pierce and Monk
No....been saving my money for some of the Troy movies coming out.
Charles Pogue, or anyone, how does THE MISTS OF AVALON end?
I had a busy evening of viewing, but was even more surprised when I went to take the garbage out for collection tomorrow. There on the porch was an Amazon box containing, among other items, the Astaire-Rogers box.
"Mists": I thought the TNT version was an excellent adaption of my favourite take on the legend.
And I'm missing François!
And where is Jose. He used to take breaks from cruising.
I just returned from the New York Times site and the Brantley review is up. I won't post a link because you have to be registered (free) to read the entire review but he does like it. He still has problems with the show itself, the structure (especially the first act) but he recognizes that Ebersole and Wilson in the second act are giving amazing performances that will be talked about and remembered for a long time.
Welcome Mr or Mrs/Miss Singingnymph to HHWLOL...That's Miz SingingNymph to you! :)
DR (Dear Reader) Singingnypmph, tell us about yourself!!Well, I'm a college student who fancies herself a singer/actress. Even though the closest I usually get to that is at Renaissance faires & the haunted attraction I work at.
And speaking of Cherry Coke...I do indeed! And Vanilla Coke. But not the cherry vanilla coke, as it tastes sort of medicinal & nasty.
Hello, new Dear Reader Singingnymph. Do you like Cherry Coke?
Welcome to new dear reader, SingingNymph - how did you find us?*dies* *comes back to life*
