I went to lunch at the Nieman Marcus here yesterday and the holiday crowd resulted in truly terrible service, too. I guess it was contagious.

Greetings from Toyland!

It was hell getting here this morning, and i should have followed the omens and stayed home, but like Fredric, I am a slave of duty, and I have an obligation to meet.  Something is afoot this morning in Manhattan - could be terrorist nonsense or other madness - but I waited 20 minutes for the bus, which should have been a 10-minute wait at most, and then decided to transfer to the subway at 59th Street because it was getting late. At the subway, the express trains were crawling and the electronic information board announced the next No 1 subway in 5 minutes.  It also said the next train was on DELAY.  10 minutes later, the subway pulled in but by rthat time the platform was crowded and a huge group of school kids showed up to board it,  There was no way this gimp could board, much less find a seat, so yelling FUCKIT very loudly, I went down another flight of stairs and took the A Train to Penn Station and 33rd.

I cannot do stairs well at all without a great deal of pain and slow movement and I thought climbing up to the sidewalk was going to kill me and I would die in front of the Main Post Office at 8th Avenue.  I then walked three blocks to a crosstown street running east, got into a taxi and paid $7.00 to ride 5 blocks.  Life is really shit today.

I'm up, I'm up - probably five and a half hours of sleep, but I'm so happy I did that revision last night.

Spoke with the doctor yesterday we will not be attempting a second try at the infusion test. There is another possibility which if it happens I'll let you all know.

I have done two shows with tracks.....no three.

They have never been a problem.  Having a good technician helps to make sure the volume is correct and that it starts at the right time.

Well there was a problem just once.  The tracks for ROCKY HORROR SHOW were on tape.  We had a matinee......at the evening performance, all of us were standing along the wall on the theatre steps waiting to begin "Science Fiction Double Feature" and the music we heard were the last few notes of the bows.  The guy had forgotten to rewind the tape during the break....so we stood a minute or so, while he ran the tape back to the beginning.

Now with computers....that kind of thing wouldn't happen.

When I was in "Forum" 22 years ago, we used computer generated tracks played on a computer and it worked, for the most part (the instruments sounded like computer generated instruments, though).  For the recent "The HEAD! That Wouldn't DIE!," we also used tracks, but they recorded actual instruments being played by actual people.  It worked better and the program that they now use is really very good.  It can also be used to play videos, when necessary...and they were. :)

Well how can you ever get new books if you don't turn on the wifi?   That wouldn't really seem practical to me.  But if I wanted to keep a loaned book for an extra day it would work.

To get new books, I have the option to "Transfer via computer," and download through a USB cable.  That way I can get any new books that I want AND not have to turn on my Wi-Fi.

Not really.  I have a cable here at work and one at home.  I also usually leave it plugged in to my computer to charge up my Kindle at the same time, so it's all good.

T.O.D.

Certainly, using tracks can provide a richness and a fullness to a production that it might not have if they were limited to say, a single piano for accompaniment.  However it can also rob a show of its spontaneity, but that is normally only a problem with school productions and community theater productions.  It really isn't any different than having a condcutor that tells the cast that "you follow me, not the other way around."

And, of course, the real benefit (which certainly offsets the minor inconvenience) is that I get to keep the books that I download!

Fingers crossed DR ELMORE.....

We do have a Mercury retrograde coming up at the end of the week......so communication delays are to be expected....computer and car problems.....the usual suspects.....so I will just have to expect delays.

That would be a huge inconvenience for me. I hate downloading books that way when all I have to do the other way is turn on my wifi.

If I only downloaded books onto either of my tablets that have lots of other apps and things that I could do with Wi-Fi, then it would be a real pain, but I'm using my Kindle ONLY as a reader, it's not a problem for me.

I know that some of the programs available for pre-recorded music now allow for tempo adjustments.  I remember seeing a production of THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE in which the prerecorded orchestra was fantastic, but every time a song began the pace of the show went to hell because the tempos were too slow for the comedy.

DR Elmore, was that here at Finkelman?  That BOYS FRON SYRACUSE is one of the only shows I remember seeing performed with a track.

The frustrations continue:  my doctor on our last appointment decided I should see a pain specialist and submitted a referral.  I for the referral last week, and i called for an appointment.  The first free date is Feb. 27, which I cannot make because of Encores! and that takes us into March.  This situation for referral patients is ridiculous.  Can you imagine calling a specialist because of stomach pains, being told the next free date is a month away, and you miss the appointment because you've died from appendicitis.

Some days the stupidity of the "System," whatever the fat hell that is, only makes me want to become a serial killer and vent.
