Well, you've read the notes, the notes had things and a scheme, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're off doing a moosical and cannot be bothered now.
-
And the word of the day is: FUSTIAN!
-
The thing I dislike most about these late night meetings is that it takes such a long time to wind down afterward.
-
TOD: I like Phantom and Joseph. Liked CATS because the kids were small and enjoyed it (but haven't seen it in years). Didn't like Evita, nor particularly Sunset Blvd. Thought Aspects of Love was just too odd. Saw the train one twice on different season tickets (it didn't get better). Didn't care for Song and Dance too much. Didn't like Jesus Christ Superstar. I think that's all I've seen.
-
I looked on the really useful site to see if I had all the shows. The Sound of Music is listed on the site, plus a few I've never heard of.
-
Favourite ALW - Song & Dance. (The UK version).
The USA version is just so bad.
Least Favourite - Woman In White.
Favourite song: Unexpected Song (Song and Dance)
Least favourite: The First Time (The Beautiful Game)

[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%][size=10]AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!![/size][/move]
When I came home from rehearsal tonight, part of the carpet in my living room (bottom floor) was soaking wet!! I just moved into this place less than two months ago and my carpet is soaked! I was able to borrow a steam cleaner from one of my neighbors to vacuum up some of the water, but it's still quite moist. I can only hope that the wet area doesn't spread too much or I'm totally screwed. It doesn't look like it's coming in from the back door, so I don't know what's going on. :'(
-
I'm so upset that I can't even think about ALW. :(
-
I won't be going to work today, either.
-
Anyway, here's a picture of my living room. :( :
-
Sigh.
Good night.
-
I am so glad that so many people had such fond memories of MAD Magazine. I own all the issues of MAD magazine up to 1998 when they were put out of CD-ROM. They include the music, the bonus inserts and even the fold over from the inside back cover.
-
FJL: The Least Horizon Parody. I read that on Tuesday
The full lyrics are:
The world is a rhomboid
Without a circumference
And nobody knows what thus similie means
But Bacharach and David are making a fortune
Sung to the tune of....er....uh....how does it go?
-
Oh when I got the CD-ROMs of MAD Magazines it came with a roll of MAD themed toliet paper. It still in its original wrapper. Keeping it for that day when I want to finance a trip somewhere. People will buy anything on EBAY
-
I forgot to mention my cousin was an associate editor of MAD Magazine in the 90's
-
TOD
The shows he did with Tim Rice with exception of Cricket which I never heard. Well I did hear the music sort of when he recycled it for Sunset Blvd. (It is amazing how little original music there is in that show!)
Hated:
CATS
Aspects of Boring (could never get through the recording)
Actually don't get me started.
-
Good morning Michael.
-
I prefer "Joseph" - in it's 1973 version (and before) - to "J C Superstar" which is to me a total bore.
-
Just had a "too many connections" message again.
Mike Shayne and myself are too many it seems.
-
Good morning, all! I have a lot of Brain surgery today, a trip to Barnes & Noble, a bit of packing, and more Brain surgery.
The weather is supposed to be lousy tomorrow in Manhattan, and I'm praying it doesn't affect the flight. God knows the schlep to JFK is bad enough, so I can use all the travel vibes you can send!
DR MattH, I agree with you about MEDIUM; I love the show, and I don't think the lousy end to last night's episode has ruined the show for me the way too many MONK episodes did for me last season. Now, whenever I hear/see an ad for MONK and Shalhoub's now-over-the-top neuroses, I want to throw things at the screen.
TOD: I'm not a great ALW fan, and I think the early version of JOSEPH/DREAMCOAT is his best work. It's got everything he does well in pastiche and parody set to a lot of good tunes, and it's mercifully short. That said, there are a few of his pieces I like:
As If We'd Never Said goodbye
Waltz For Che and Evita
Starlight Express (New York version)
Think of Me (I loathe its use in POTO since it's totally the wrong number for the Paris Grand Opera, but I think it's a nice pop song)
-
George, so sorry to hear about your flood. I hope you find the cause!
I am no fan of ALW, that being said, I do enjoy Evita.
Starlight Express makes me wince.
Jesus Christ Screaming Star (enough said).
-
Lar, good travel vibes tomorrow. As you're heading out to California we will be at Equity getting the room ready for the Basket Project which begins officially on Monday, December 4th. I just hope the predicted rain doesn't happen when we are outside unloading the truck. It's supposed to be decent temperature-wise (high 50s to low 60s) but rain could muck up the unloading. Oh, well. NY has had a very mild November and winter weather is expected at this time of year. We shall see tomorrow.
-
I saw Suddenly Last Summer last night. It was a decent production but I don't think I've ever seen the play, only the movie. The play just seems so over the top that it's hard to watch it as a serious drama. I also didn't think Gale Harold, as the doctor, was that good. I know he has a large fan base from Queer as Folk (the U.S. version) but I've seen him on stage twice now (earlier in an excreable piece of faux theatre called Uncle Bob) and I'm either missing something or the rest of the world is blind (I prefer to believe the rest of the world is blind :))
I don't have any theatre scheduled until January when I will see Apple Tree w/Miss Chenowith, Brian D'Arcy James and Mark Kudisch. I'm looking forward to that production.
-
Good Morning and See You Later Edi. I'm off to finish up work before I leave at 4pm.
Later, gaters.
-
DR BEN - Gale Harold was the worst actor on QAF in what can only be termed an "embarrassment of riches."
-
Hmmmm.........
Oh, welcome to DR NewGirl.....LA is the place to be! We must have posts about the REAL MR BK in rehearsal....and we must be told about "The Funniest Moment During Notes" each day.
-
I like several Sir ALW shows...
JOSEPH/DREAMCOAT
SUPERSTAR
EVITA
PHANTOM
SUNSET BLVD
But then, I like ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN, too.
Favorites: Any Dream Will Do and Unexpected Song
Least: the damn train song in CATS - in fact MOST of CATS
-
Raining today....thunderstorms expected...with SNOW tomorrow.
Working today. Maybe I will have the chance to be on later this afternoon.
-
Ah, yes. Welcome to New Girl (almost a Bob Merrill reference, just add in Town and you have the name of a 1957 Broadway musical)
-
And just something to add before I go to work...heigh ho.
-
And one for Mahler
-
(since COMPANY is back on Broadway, and possibly as a great big hit)
-
Good morning!
My lord, we have gone back to Indian summer. It was so warm this morning, I could have gon out in shirt sleeves and not been cold. At lunch today, I'll be wearing a short sleeved shirt and no undershirt; that's how warm and MUGGY it is here. Unbelievable!
-
It is 36F outside. We usually get this cold the week of Christmas and it is the extent of our cold weather in the desert.
-
I really loathe most of Andrew Lloyd Webber's music and shows, so my affection for EVITA surprises even me. I do think it's a marvelous piece of theater, and even parts of the movie worked for me (the Antonio Banderas parts).
My favorite song of his is "Tell Me on a Sunday." I also like "Only You" from STARLIGHT EXPRESS (though the show was the biggest waste of time and money I've ever sat through).
-
Very happy about SCRUBS returning to the air tonight, and the entire NBC line-up of comedy episodes tonight got raves from both TV GUIDE and USA TODAY critics.
THE OFFICE's episode was written by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant who created the show in England and who are big fans of the US incarnation. The USA TODAY critic said it's the best of the four comedies on NBC tonight.
-
I don't know from Andrew Lloyd Webber.
-
I only have one hour of TV recorded from last night (CSI: NY), so I'll be DVDing it most of the day until tonight's slate of shows comes on.
At least NBC and ABC have new episodes to present to us. CSI is a rerun, and both of CW's thrillers (SMALLVILLE, SUPERNATURAL) are also repeats.
-
My lord, we have gone back to Indian summer.
Well then, DR George will have the perfect fashion ensemble...if it's not wet, that is.
Sorry about your flood, George!
-
I don't know too many of the ALW shows. Despite my love of cats, I could never get interested in listening to the whole score to CATS, much less seeing the show.
But I do love Superstar, in all its over-the-cheesy Jesusiness. And the most recent PBS version, with the cool fetish wardrobe!
-
Andrew Lloyd Webber has written some lovely melodies. "Music of the Night", though way overexposed by now, is truly lovely, IMO.
Unlike DR TomovOz, I prefer "Jesus Christ, Superstar" to nearly everything else ALW has done. Perhaps, DR TomovOz...."Could we start again, please?"
I love several "moments" in the "Evita" cast album. And some of the songs are quite clever, IMO.
-
I'm up, I'm up - at least I got seven hours of sleep, which hopefully will help. I'll try for more tomorrow.
-
I nodded off several times last night while, gamely, trying to watch "Medium."
I should have taped it, but I was muleheadedly certain I was alert. Things were fine until about halfway through.
I did see the denouement and conclusion, however. I do hope we have no more of the errant/evil doctor.
-
I must try to jog pre errand or I fear I won't have time. On the other hand, baby, it's COLD outside.
-
DR George --- CALL YOUR HOA or Property Management representative ASAP!
-
Elmoore, vibes for a great flight to California. See you in Hollywood next week!! Woohoo!
-
Anyway, here's a picture of my living room. :( :
Judging strictly from a footprint point of view, I would say DR George did the Watusi when he realized the rug was drenched!
-
RE: last night's MEDIUM
spoilers.

*
*
I love the show. But I didn't love much of last night's show. I also did not like the ending.
I'm not sure what it was about the rest of the show. BUt it didn't engage me as much as usual. I was interested with the twist re: the car and what really happened in the car. But why would alison go to see the guy alone? And all that stuff with how alison was saved was too much for me.
I loved the season premiere so hopefully next week will have a better show.
-
I'm up, I'm up - at least I got seven hours of sleep, which hopefully will help. I'll try for more tomorrow.
The ad banner on my HHW page one is:
"Tips to Improve Sleep"
Hmmmm. Synchronicity.
-
For anyone who watches MEN IN TREES, it is on tonight at 10pm.
-
Oh and speaking of hot weather. It is something like 60F degrees here right now. Crazy for almost december!
-
It's quite balmy here in Atlanta.
-
I have not watched MEN IN TREES...but had I known that John Amos was going to be in it, I would have started.
-
George, so sorry to hear about your flood. I hope you find the cause!
Well then, DR George will have the perfect fashion ensemble...if it's not wet, that is.
Sorry about your flood, George!
Thanks and thanks. :)
-
It is quite wet here in Salem....and evidently in some places in Washington state as well, according to DR George :-\
-
Well, my invite for opening night of Brain from Planet X is for me and a guest...and as my buddies here in Oregon have tired of traveling to L.A. with me I guess I will have to try and find a guest in Hollywood.
I wonder if Rex Chandler is available Friday evening?
-
JRand56, you should find some German cowboys in your mail box today or tomorrow.
-
DR George --- CALL YOUR HOA or Property Management representative ASAP!
I sent an e-mail and they said that they "put a call into Doris and [will] have her take a look at it this morning. Depending on the cause, will depend on if the HOA will cover it or not. Regardless, we will get it looked at as quickly as possible."
-
I'm off to more more stuff out of the living room.
-
I'm so upset that I can't even think about ALW. :(
That's usually what happens to me when I think of ALW! ;D
-
TOD: I think we've talked about this before, but I think JCS is a work of genius, sadly never to be repeated in his oeuvre, IMHO. I actually like a lot of Woman in White, which I got as a free bonus from Borders last year. Just about everything else makes me gag. Sorry to you ALW lovers, and you know who you are.
-
And the word of the day is: FUSTIAN!
Casey would waltz
With a strawberry blonde...
But fust Ian, the bandleader, insisted on delivering a long-winded rant about people who insisted on one particular dance instead of trying out different things, such as the tango, the twist, and the bunny hop.
Ian had obviously forgotten to take his medication again.
-
I have not watched MEN IN TREES...but had I known that John Amos was going to be in it, I would have started.
Trust me on this: Anne Heche ruins any appeal the rest of the cast may have to offer.
-
George: get yourself a big fan and set it up in the living room. It will help dry things and prevent mildew.
-
That's usually what happens to me when I think of ALW! ;D
He doesn't upset me...it's the overwhelming financial success of his shows when there are so many BETTER composers out there NOT getting produced that upsets me.
But...his melodies have popular approval and support...
No financial gain in wit and sophistication THESE days!
-
Thursday afternoon greetings! My day started with a breakfast meeting at the Dayton Racquet Club, which was lovely (the breakfast part) and very informative (the meeting part).
It's quite balmy here in SW Ohio, too, but we have wintery weather blowing in for tomorrow.
-
George: get yourself a big fan and set it up in the living room. It will help dry things and prevent mildew.
Meanwhile....get all your towels and place them on the rug....and do the "watusi" all over the floor....then take up the towels and toss them in your dryer. After they dry, repeat the procedure until the carpet seems to have recovered.
-
DR George - sorry about your soggy carpet. I had a similar thing happen in my first apartment. It was on the ground level next to the laundry room and someone let a washer overflow :P
-
DR JRand: Yesterday you wrote:
"Arctic blast forecast for us tomorrow night."
Our local weather guy contrasted our chilly temps with the rest of the country and I saw that you were up in the 60s yesterday.
Tonight's change should be drastic!
I heard on the news this morning that someplace in the U.S.....possibly a town in Texas....you could actually see the temperature dropping this morning....by one degree every four minutes.
-
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....I get the chills just thinking about snow and such.
It was F 39 here this morning. MUCH too cold for the likes of us.
-
(since COMPANY is back on Broadway, and possibly as a great big hit)
Why-O, Why-O, didn't I see it here in Ohio?
-
I don't know from Andrew Lloyd Webber.
He produced Bombay Dreams.
"Shakalaka Baby", and all that jazz.
-
It has been marvelously temperate here in Delaware. Many customers have commented, while bemoaning what it will be like when the weather turns wintery.
I've been wanting to tell them "That's why God invented Florida," but I've remained temperate myself.
-
Favorite ALW - Variations, aka the second half of Song and Dance. Love the original rock recording with bro Julian, love the orchestral version, and even like the OLCR, in spite of bits being cut. (And favorite song "Unexpected Song" is, of course, one of the variations, with lyrics added.)
I'm also fond of Evita, both in it's original London studio cast recording and the film version.
I've never been able to listen to Whistle Down the Wind. We have it, I started listening to it, and put it aside. Bleh.
-
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....I get the chills just thinking about snow and such.

-
Back from errand and jog and must now shower and get to the casting session, then on to LACC. Whew!
-
Variations is, as everyone her undoubtedly knows (so I'm really posting this for the lurkers) based on Paganini's Caprice No. 24 in A minor.
It's a tune that has had considerable mileage. While I haven't heard all of them, the list of variations includes:
Variations on a Theme of Paganini - Boris Blacher.
Paganini Variations, Op. 35, for solo piano - Johannes Brahms
Grandes Etudes de Paganini, S.141, for solo piano - Franz Liszt (one of the five caprices arranged is the 24th)
Paganini Variations - Witold Lutoslawski
Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, Op. 43 - Sergei Rachmaninoff
And, of course, Andrew Lloyd, as I earlier stated, put it on his Webber and grilled it.
-
He produced Bombay Dreams.
"Shakalaka Baby", and all that jazz.
Was he responsible for the songs? I though A.R. Rehman did them. But I could be wrong.
-
I don't have to go to work today (hurrah!), but der B needs to get on the computer. Have fun, everyone.
-
Was he responsible for the songs? I though A.R. Rehman did them. But I could be wrong.
ALW produced the show. A.R. Rehman wrote the songs.
-
DR RLP, I like Anne Heche.
-
RE: ALW, he's not my favorite, but i have seen many of his shows: Evita, Cats, Phantom of the opera, joseph, Whistle down the wind, jesus christ superstar. I've also seen any of them on video. And I have listened to Aspects of love.
I think my favorite show on stage is Evita. Although i did love Joseph and the Amazing Techicolor Dreamcoat when i first saw it in Toronto.
-
In case anybody is interested, the cast of MARY POPPINS (broadway) is going to be on the Early Show (CBS) tomorrow (Friday) between 8am-9am.
-
Andrew Lloyd Webber has written some lovely melodies. "Music of the Night", though way overexposed by now, is truly lovely, IMO.
I liked it better when it was known as "Come to Me, Bend to Me."
-
DR RLP, I like Anne Heche.
Okay......
.....I don't. I find her unbelievable, unattractive and vastly untalented.
-
TOD
...Least: the damn train song in CATS - in fact MOST of CATS
LOL! The train song in Cats is one of my most favorites, DR JRand! Cats was DS Rob's favorite car listening when he was still small enough to ride in a car seat. It got to the point where I turned off the front speakers so I wouldn't have to hear it anymore!
Guess my favorite show is Evita. Fond memories of seeing it on Broadway, New Year's Eve 1982, and I like the movie a lot, too.
Favorite songs: "Love Changes Everything," "Tell Me on a Sunday," "Rainbow High"
-
I'm sorry TCB is not on line to read all the comments about his favourite show "Evita"
-
Loved, absolutely loved, Anne Heche in PROOF on Broadway and in TWENTIETH CENTURY also on Broadway at the Roundabout. I seem to enjoy her more on stage than on screen.
-
It's quite balmy here in Atlanta.
Climate or residents?
der Brucer
-
George: get yourself a big fan...
I suspect beared Cannibals in Fishnet Hose and High Heels have a limited fan base from which to draw.

-
I'm checkin' out. I will be in and out over the next month but I probably won't be posting. I'll be at Actors Equity on weekdays filling gift bags for people with AIDS (till December 15th) and then to the Berkshires for a few days and then back to NY/Long Island for Christmas with Anthony (sounds like a cable television movie).
See ya!
-
Ben - We got your beautiful card. We may not be sending cards out until after we're back from California, but just wanted to say thanks to you and Anthony for the lovely wishes.
-
Ben - have a great month off! At least your voice will still be at work at the Center.
-
That's usually what happens to me when I think of ALW! ;D
Hahahahahaha! Good one, DR JMK! ;D
-
Another lunch that ran into the mid-afternoon thus limiting the amount of shows I could view.
I finished the CSI: MIAMI DVD in the player. This episode was the one where men are being taught how to pick up women, and one of them is killed. One of Dom DeLuise's sons was the murder victim.
-
Then, I put in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL.
With the sequel coming out on DVD next week, I wanted to refamiliarize myself with the story and characters. THough I saw the first film in the theater, and watched this DVD a time or two, I had almost no memory of it. I got about 70 minutes of it watched this afternoon, and it was almost like seeing it for the first time. I can't think of another film of the last five years that for some reason leaves no lingering memory in my brain after I've watched it several times.
-
In this backward land of Oz the sequel was out on DVD two weeks ago! Most odd. (And it was thoroughly enjoyable). Yo Ho Ho
-
Very sad news for film music fans:
Shirley Walker, composer of scores to such movies/TV series as "Memoirs of an Invisible Man" and "The Flash", "Space: Above and Beyond" et. al., died last night of a brain aneurysm. She was 61.
Shirley Walker was that rare commodity in music composition -- the American female composer. She was accessible and friendly and glad to share information with anyone interested in her "process" of composing.
I was privileged to communicate with her from time to time, getting responses from her as often as I'd get replies from her assistant.
It's always a shock when someone you know or admire passes away suddenly.
-

I was going to the theater to see the new one, but some friends who saw it ahead of me said to skip paying to see it in the theater and just get the DVD, so I took them at their word.
-

In Oz, what with you being backwards and all, shouldn't that last remark been "Ho Ho Yo"?
-
Looks like I picked the right time to stop watching 3 LBS. CBS has yanked the show from its schedule effective immediately and is not going to film any further episodes (8 have been filmed already and three shown on-air).
-
I'd heard that Pirates II was II long. Not for me - lots of fun and great set ups.
Nor Sknaht.

You are most very welcome!

Back for but a moment, and the moment is done. I shall not, methinks, be eating after the rehearsal this evening, so I should be getting home right after ten.

Meanwhile....get all your towels and place them on the rug....and do the "watusi" all over the floor....then take up the towels and toss them in your dryer. After they dry, repeat the procedure until the carpet seems to have recovered.
Well, I'm still using the steam cleaner to suck up the water. When I leave for final dress rehearsal tonight, I'll put down the towels. Thanks for the tip. :)
-
I sent an e-mail and they said that they "put a call into Doris and [will] have her take a look at it this morning. Depending on the cause, will depend on if the HOA will cover it or not. Regardless, we will get it looked at as quickly as possible."
It's now almost 2:00 pm and there has been no contact from Doris at all. >:( The neighbors who lent me the steam cleaner said that Doris is not very efficient. ::) She's the only person who takes care of this whole 92-unit complex. I want to find my purchase papers to see what the previous owners disclosed, because I don't remember seeing anything liket this listed. AND I don't seem to have any broken pipes! ALL of my faucets (inside and outside) work fine, as do my dishwasher and washing machine. I'm hoping that this is not something that I'm going to have to pay for...I hope.

Except that I'm not bearded any more. I've shaved so that my characterization of the Indian will be more believable. ;)
-
Amazing how TV shows get yanked so fast these days. No chance to build an audience. Odd that in the theater these days, the opposite is true - shows don't close in a week the way they used to, but theater producers tend to hold on hoping for business to turn around.
Will they show the remaning 3 LBS on the internet?
-
DR George - sorry about your soggy carpet.
Thanks. :)
-
I had a similar thing happen in my first apartment. It was on the ground level next to the laundry room and someone let a washer overflow :P
Let the horror stories commence!! ;D

Must be time to go home, my computer here at work just got all wiggy.
Bye for now!

Clearly, we need to have a new catagory of films, of which POTC:TCOTBP will be the lead -
The Teflon Film A Film that is highly successful, yet nothing sticks.
-
Let the horror stories commence!! ;D
It was a dark and stormy night...
-
Gosh, George. I sure hope the cause of the water if found. And I sure hope that someone else is at fault so that you don't have to pay for it. It seems to me that you shouldn't have to if the water comes from someone else's condo.

Will they show the remaning 3 LBS on the internet?
Actually, it depends on the network. CBS right now is in the catbird seat with every night of the week strong, but they have a couple of problematic timeslots in their hit schedule, so they don't sit still for substandard ratings for very long in those slots. They can afford to be picky.
Fox and NBC, on the other hand, have lots of shows with lower ratings than 3 LBS. but they're not in a position of strength and thus give shows more time to hopefully build an audience.
There has been no word yet on what CBS will do with the episodes of 3 LBS. that have not aired.
-
I'm heading down now to clean the bedroom areas and then will get back to the adventures of Capt. Jack Sparrow.
WBBL.
-
Well, I'm packed for LA. I'm still writing, as I figure I shall be for the next 3-4 days. I've called my dad and checked in with him, and I have some addressed to print out before I consider the East Coast shop closed.
Back later!

From: http://disney.go.com/disneyatoz/familymuseum/index.html
Interview with: Annette Funicello
Of all the Mousketeers, Annette Funicello was unquestionably the best known. Her bright vivacious personality appealed to viewers, and there's no doubt that her wholesome good looks were of more than passing interest to the young boys who watched. She was discovered by Walt himself when she was performing in an amateur program at the Starlight Bowl in Burbank. After her remarkable rise to great fame as a Mouseketeer, she continued to work for Walt for some years in a number of films and television shows. She had featured roles in "The Shaggy Dog," "Babes in Toyland," "The Misadventures of Merlin Jones," and "The Monkey's Uncle." Her memories of Walt are sincere and often touching
Q: You had three auditions before being selected for the Mouse Club. Can you remember when you found out the good news?
Annette: "Somebody from the Studio called and said I was chosen. In fact I was the last one chosen. There were 24 of us, and I was the 24th. So, I made it by the skin of my teeth."
Q: Did you see Walt often?
Annette: "When we were filming, he was there a lot. And of course, when there's 24 kids running here, there and everywhere, we didn't really get to know him all that well. We saw him. He made sure everything was OK. He'd talk to the director to find out if there were any problems.
When I really got to know him was when the Mickey Mouse Club broke up. I thought I was a goner, too. I had no idea I'd be staying on. Somebody came to my mom and said, 'You're going to have to bring Annette up to the office and have her sign some papers. Instead of a three- year contract, we're going to make it seven years.'
Mr. Disney told me that the fan mail coming in was astronomical. Something like 10,000 pieces a week. That was the only idea I had of the popularity of the show."
Q: You called him Mr. Disney?
Annette: "We kids had been told to address him as Uncle Walt. That's what he sort of requested himself. He was everybody's friend. I couldn't do that. I just couldn't do that. It stayed Mr. Disney forever. To this day.
I just had so much respect for him that I preferred to call him Mr. Disney. The gardeners at the Studio and everybody would say, 'Hi Walt,' and he wanted it that way and I couldn't."
Q: What are your memories of the Studio at the time you were there?
Annette: "Working at the Disney Studio is like a family. The grounds were a college campus. Everybody there were the kindest, nicest people. It seemed to be a criteria. And Mr. Disney was so faithful with his people. If he liked you and you did well, he would hire you back time after time. So we all became like family."
Q: How did he treat you, personally?
Annette: "He was so supportive. He knew how painfully shy I was. I have told this story over and over, but it's really the truth: I went to him one day and said, 'I have a problem, Mr. Disney.' And he said, 'Aren't you happy?' And I said,' I am very happy. But nobody can pronounce my last name. I'd like to change it.'
'To what?'
'Turner.'
He said, Young lady, [you are not] going to change your name... It's a fine name and a beautiful name, and people may not know how to pronounce it now, but soon they will remember it.'"
Q: When you had to miss your graduation from school, he was particularly thoughtful, wasn't he?
Annette: "The Studio had asked me to go to New York to work at Radio City Music Hall. I didn't want to go because I was about to graduate from my studio school and I didn't want to leave my family. And this was for six weeks on this enormous stage that was so frightening. I said no. And they kept calling me back and calling back and telling me not to worry. [They said], "you're working with a wonderful singer and he'll carry you." I was close to tears. Mr. Disney called me one day and said, 'I know how upset you are about missing graduating, but I promise you the best graduation you'll ever have here in New York.' I couldn't refuse him. After we finished the show, they brought out all the Rockettes and the superintendent of schools of the New York system, who presented me with my diploma on stage while the Rockettes were doing their high kicks. Who cares about a prom? He came through for me. It was just so thrilling."
Q: Can you tell us the story about your sixteenth birthday?
Annette: "He knew I was absolutely crazy about Guy Williams, who was Zorro. And this was common knowledge because I would hide behind corners and watch his every move. Well, Mr. Disney got wind of this, and for my sixteenth birthday, he said, 'Happy sweet sixteen darling. Here are a couple of scripts. I'm going to put you in 'Zorro' with Guy Williams.' They had a big sweet sixteen party. He actually handed me the scripts for my birthday."

Thank you François. I found that quite an emotional read.

California travel vibes to DR Elmore!
-
Travel vibes to Larry!!!
-
I liked it better when it was known as "Come to Me, Bend to Me."
Wow, I knew that song sounded familiar from the first time I heard it...you're right
-
Travel Vibes to Larry
-
TOD - Evita and Joseph, I guess.
-
I am tired and about to sign off. I got up at 4:00 AM drove to Des Moines (3 1/2 hours away) went to a seminar for 7 hours and drove back. It was a long day but a good one. Glad to be home, though.
-
And as Billy Crystal's character sort-of pointed out in one of his films, doesn't the beginning of "School Days, School Days" sound like both "Come to Me Bend to Me" and the beginning of "Music of the Night?"
-
Actually, maybe Crystal was only talking about "School Days" and "Music of the Night."
???

[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%][size=10]AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!![/size][/move]
That stinks!
-
DR RLP, I like Anne Heche.
I also like Anne Heche. I have some edits of her when she was on Another World.
-
Cute avatar DR Laura!
-
I was told that "Music of the Night", played backwards, sounds exactly like "Bend to me, Come to me", which, translated into French, sounds like a dirty song, backwards or onwards, and vice versa!
I was told!
-
Have a safe trip to LA DR elmoore....
-
Francois - You may be thinking of "Come Bend to Me" from "On A Clear Day You Can See a Funny Girl Singing Hello Dolly Forever." :)
-
I love CAts and Phantom of the Opera.
I did not care for Sunset. I did not mind Evita. There were a couple of songs that I did like.
-
I also did not like Jesus Christ Superstar. I have not seen Joseph and the Amazing TEchnicolor Dreamcoat.

You're right... even though I NEVER think!
The French version was simply called "Yentl"! ;)
-
I love CAts and Phantom of the Opera.

I love cats and sunsets but I am not too much into Opera! ;)
-
TOD - Evita and Joseph, I guess.
Aren't they the parents of Jesus?! :o ;)
-
I love cats and sunsets but I am not too much into Opera! ;)
Yes but Opera is amazing!
-
For a few nights this month (It's already December here!), Paris will have a production of CANDIDE with Kim Criswell as the Old Lady, and a French actor/singer that DR elmoore and pianoman Jose do not particularly like, so... I won't mention his name!
-
Yes but Opera is amazing!
So is the technicolor dreamcoat!
-
I also did not like Jesus Christ Superstar.
We won't call the Vatican at Nine about it! No!
-
We won't call the Vatican at Nine about it! No!
I would agree on that assessment!
-
Good evening all.
-
I am having a strong allergic reaction to my cats right now. It might be time to pop another benadryl and lie down.
-
Page 6, lovely!
-
I enjoyed Ugly Betty tonight. Grey's Anatomy was okay but is not touching me the way last season did.
-
George, I'm sorry to hear about your wet carpet. I hope a solution is found soon.
-
Rain finally arrived, and temperatures will start to cool off tomorrow. It will be COLD by Sunday. Anyway, it was a nice "spring break" while it lasted.
-
I finished PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, and I'm now ready for whatever DEAD MAN'S CHEST has to offer. Hopefully, I can remember enough about these characters so I won't be lost when they show up on DVD next week.
-
Next I put in another disc of SUPERMAN episodes. In this one, Jimmy has invented an anti-gravity formula, and a crook is trying to steal it from him. The crooks isn't particularly threatening operating alone without help or back-up. You can tell the show was really made on a low budget with episodes like this.
-
UGLY BETTY had a charming, romantic, and entertaining episode, and after seeing Christopher Gorman's character on tonight's show, I was glad to read he's been signed for additional episodes. He and Betty are a winning couple, but for now, they've got to find ways to keep them apart.
-
I agree with you, DR TPunk. GREY'S ANATOMY was an absorbing show, but with everyone so angry and spitting at one another, it's not particularly pleasant to sit through. I also though Kate Walsh (Addison) mumbled her lines terribly tonight. I missed a couple of her dialog moments because of her mumbling.
I got a vibe that maybe McSteamy is going to get interested in Izzy. Am I wrong about that feeling?
-

You must mean Lambert Wilson! I have two friends in the Paris production: La Criswell and William Burden.
-
THE OFFICE tonight was indeed hilarious. One of the workers at the company turns out to be an ex-con, and in hearing him describe what prison life was like (obviously at a minimum security prison since he did insider trading), several workers commented that prison sounded better than the office. Naturally, that got Michael's ire up and he wanted to let them see what a prison would really be like.
A running gag with Jim misleading Andy about Pam was also lots of fun.
-
Finished the evening with last night's CSI: NY, a very puzzling mystery in which CSI Dr. Hawkes was arrested for robbery and murder with lots of evidence pointing to him as the guilty party. Very ingenious plan of implication as it turned out. Well done.
-
Safe travels for DR Elmore tomorrow. Hope the weather will cooperate.
-
I'm heading off to bed now.
Good night!
-
We'll never make it to page 7 at this rate.
-
I pretty much liked Anne Heche in tonight's MEN IN TREES, but I never would have imagined form this episode just how great an actress the lady can be in the right part.
-
I'm probably not going to even try to make it to post #4,000 tonight.
-
Was that even an English sentence in my last post?
-
Just 15 posts left
-
And that WOULD get us to page 7.
-
Lucky page 7, that is
-
or would be, if we can get there.
-
And I've just got eleven posts to go
-
Home after another long day. But at least I got us out earlier than normal tonight so I can actually sit on my couch like so much fish, which I shall now do.
-
"Men In Trees" is been shown here in the non-ratings silly season. An indication that there is little faith in its finding an audience.
Is it a grown up version of Carly Simon's "Boys in the Trees"?
-
If you make it to post #4000 and no one is online when you get there, did you really make it to post #4000?
-
Over the past few evenings DP Colin and I have been enjoying episodes of the UK series from a few years back "Hustle". Good slick, and at times amusing, writing.
-
MEN IN TREES is, as far as I can tell, a TV series equivalent of a chick flick, and I say that having enjoyed this episode a great deal.
-
Neither of us can do the hustle.
-
And we're still wondering how the song from "Hustle and Flow" was even nominated for an Oscar.
-
I've been enjoying this sampling of one-hour TV dramas. I'm beginning to wonder what wonderful series I've missed over the years.
-
If you make it to post #4000 and no one is online when you get there, did you really make it to post #4000?
Only if the men in the trees hear you scream.
-
I've been hooked on CNN and the local all-news station for quite a few years.
-
Of course your enjoyment of TV shows may mean something about your brain becoming adled!
-
Only six posts left to 4000 - with six I get a drumroll.
-
Frank Sinatra was thrown out of Oz for mentioning Hookers and news in the one sentence.
-
I'm definitely not as intelligent now as I was 20 years ago. But I'm much happier now than I was 20 years ago. Maybe those two factors are connected. :)
-
Not even enough people here to share a drum stick.
-
Four posts left.
Wasn't that the source material for I Do! I Do!
-
Instead of a drumroll - the last post may be played.
-
At least two of the posts were right.
-
It's time to come blow your horn. OR do you not have high hopes.
-
Attention must be played.
-
It seemed so far away before, but now it's so close.
-
It's funny how DR FJL can turn into DR RLP at times! ;-)
-
Three zeroes preceded by a four. Hallelujah!
-
Whoops there goes another rubber tree plant.
Road mender to boss - "I'm new mattock tired"
-
It seemed so far away before, but now it's so close.
Even Voltaire could not say it better; he was so candid! ;)
-
Congratulations. Choirs of Angels seem appropriate
-
If you make it to post #4000 and no one is online when you get there, did you really make it to post #4000?
Congrats on reaching 4000

Did I ever tell you about my uncle the magician? He was driving down the street and turned into a gas station.
-
Quires of angles for E & T Prof Orr.
-
Quick fix FJL!
-
Safe journey DR Elmore. I hope you will be able to log on at times whilst you are on the West Coast.
-
Did I ever tell you about my uncle the magician? He was driving down the street and turned into a gas station.
That joke is a gas and I got a fill of it!
-
Thanks for the milestone well-wishes.

A wishing well for the mildly stoned?

There are mild stones, there are milled stones

and Gaul Thrones. (For Gypsy royalty)

Hi, George!
Instead of the Watusi, maybe you should dance "The Time Warp" and return the rug back to its pre-flood status.
It's just a jump to the left...
-
Any cause or solution DR George? I trust the carpet is now close to dry.
-
I was trapped in a flash flood once, in my car. A lot of other people were, too,m but my car was the only one that floated! (An '82 Toyota Tercel). Still, it took in quite a bit of water. I tried the rug sucker and other things to get the moisture out, but it was still a month or two before you could sit on the seat without a towel to keep you from getting a wet butt. And when the sun was out and the car heated up, it became a terrarium! Yuck. I feel your apin!
-
Pre flood - Is that a "Two by Two" reference?
-
Gosh, George. I sure hope the cause of the water if found. And I sure hope that someone else is at fault so that you don't have to pay for it. It seems to me that you shouldn't have to if the water comes from someone else's condo.
Well, there's good news and bad news. The good news (kinda) is that we think we found the leak. "We" being Larry, my sister's boyfriend and Bruce, the guy who originally did the inspection of the condo before I moved in and I. Bruce was so nice about the whole thing. He came out and looked at everything and was able to get the water turned off...and he didn't charge me for the visit!
The bad news is that when he pulled up the carpet in the corner, he pretty much figures that the hose faucet from out back is what froze and then started leaking sometime yesterday or the night before when everything started thawing. :( So, it's my resposibility. :P We called a plumber that my sister and her ex-mother-in-law have used and really trust. He's coming tomorrow sometime between noon and two. He'll cut up the wall, fix the leak (hopefully) and then I can turn the water back on. :-\
