Well, you've read the notes, the notes needed a kick in the pants, and now it is now time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently getting a kick in the pants.

Two wonderful scenes - the homecoming sequence from The Best Years Of Our Lives - it's about ten minutes overall, maybe a bit more, but you could just use the Homer section of it.  One of the most moving, greatest scenes ever.

The finale of The Miracle Worker.

You should watch the whole of Best Years - one of the greatest movies ever made - the homecoming sequence occurs about ten minutes into the film (it begins in the cockpit of an airplane with the three returning soldiers).

That sequence also features some of the greatest filmmusic ever written for the screen, by Mr. Hugo Friedhofer.

Disney takes a bullet for MGM/Turner!

 TRAIL OF TERROR (http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=52169)

Quote
Iran TV: 'Pirates of Caribbean' a Zionist plot
Campaign links Disney to Jews, says 'Aladdin' denigrates Arabs

A new campaign on Middle East television tells viewers that Disney is linked to Zionism and its newest "ammunition" is "Pirates of the Caribbean," the popular movie starring Johnny Depp.
According to translations released by the Middle East Media Research Institute, the studio also used its "Aladdin" animated series to denigrate Arabs.

"Disney and its productions have been associated, more than anything, with the Zionist lobby in Hollywood," the report says. "In 1995, when the pro-Zionist Jews were 2.5 percent of America's population, they made up 7.7 percent of Disney's board of directors.
"This clearly influences the content of this large company's productions, as well as its policies and guidelines. The 'Aladdin' animated film series is one example of Disney creations that present Arabs in a negative light,"

Prof. Hasan Bolkhari, a cultural adviser to the Iranian Education Ministry, told Iran's Channel 4 the Tom and Jerry cartoon is a Jewish conspiracy.

An excerpt of that video also was made available by MEMRI then.

"The Jewish Walt Disney Company gained international fame with this cartoon," said Bolkhari. "It is still shown throughout the world. This cartoon maintains its status because of the cute antics of the cat and mouse – especially the mouse."

Some snippets from an enjoyable article at  TIME.COM (http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1539508-1,00.html)

Quote
Pythonostalgia!
How Britain?s Flying Circus went from trailblazing satire to cuddly Broadway hit
By RICHARD CORLISS

And this Saturday, Spamalot opens at the Palace Theatre in London's West End. The Pythons, who can be expected to show up for that opening night (as they did in New York), will finally have come home. And full circle. Or they will if they make a film based on the show that was based on their film. They could call it Cameralot.

Once the Pythons were comedically dangerous. Thirty years later, in part because they schooled the Western world in their brand of sublimely silly comedy, the rebels have inevitably become a nostalgia act. So, what changed between the Holy Grail film and the Spamalot show? Idle codified and cute-ified the old loopy, spiky surrealism. The show is so mainstream it's arričre-garde. It's been polished and burnished, pressed and dry-cleaned, into a Broadway musical that is super-ingratiating — don't risk, can't miss.

Another thing about the Beatles and the Pythons: both could be called musical comedy acts. Just as the Fab Four made humor a crucial part of their appeal, so the Pythons frequently used songs in Flying Circus ("Eric the Half-a-Bee," "The Lumberjack Song," "Dennis Moore") and their films. Idle's blithely idiotic ditty, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life," helped make Life of Brian that rare Crucifixion movie you could hum your way out of. And the Jones-Palin anthem from The Meaning of Life ("Every sperm is sacred / Every sperm is great / If a sperm is wasted / God gets quite irate") could be choraled today by half the U.S. Senate. These musical interludes set the Monty-men firmly in the tradition of the English variety show, as well as making Spamalot less a break with the Python spirit than a natural continuation of it.

Idle remains the most boyish of the group, with a sense of humor unabashedly adolescent, both pleasing and easy to please. His love of verbal play is so intense it seems like a bright boy's first passion at discovering the worlds in words — the alternate, funhouse universes that language could create.

Until the late '50s, popular British humor came from the working class. Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and Harry Secombe, the Goons whose wild radio comedy enthralled all classes (Prince Charles was a particular fan), had never gone near a university. That changed with Beyond the Fringe, a comedy revue written by and starring four recent graduates from Cambridge (Peter Cook and Jonathan Miller) and Oxford (Alan Bennett and Dudley Moore). Quite a few shapers of the national smile over the next decade or so were Oxonians, like the creators of the influential satirical magazine Private Eye, who had first convened at at Shrewsbury, Palin's private school. And Palin was at Oxford with Terry Jones.

But no athletic dexterity could match the gyrations of Cleese's barbed satire, such as a skit "about a dog that has got trapped somewhere and people were being killed in the hundreds trying to rescue it." His 6ft.4in. frame nurtured a majestic scorn, whose clipped syllables instantly evoked centuries of institutionalized English sarcasm and sadism in the form of teachers and civil servants. He could apply this furious condescension to petty bureaucrats, a cheese or parrot shop customer, a professional arguer — almost anybody.
This choleric temperament would define Cleese's post-Flying Circus personality: as Basil Fawlty in his Fawlty Towers sitcom; as the martinet sergeant in the film of Peter Nichols' Privates on Parade; and, right now, in Spamalot, as the Voice of God. When Arthur cravenly compliments Him on the notion of a quest for the Grail, Cleese the Almighty bellows in that distinct and cutting tenor: "Of course it's a good idea. I'm God, you stupid tit."

To get them singing along, give them a lazily catchy tune from famous Eric — an idle idol-Idle idyll.

Rosie, Stern and Britney Are the "Worst Looking"
Posted Sep 27th 2006 12:16PM by TMZ Staff

Rosie O'Donnell has been named the "worst looking" celeb in High-Definition TV according to Phillip Swann of TVPredictions.com, a website that covers the HDTV industry.

HDTV is known for its crystal clear reception and, much to Hollywood's chagrin, its ability to pick up every line, wrinkle and crevice on a star's face.

Swann says "no one enjoys the view of Rosie in high-def" and adds that she "looks like she uses a Brillo pad" to wash her face.

I'm not sure I agree about Rosie being the worst looking in high definition, though I'm not sure I've ever SEEN her in high definition. I don't watch THE VIEW on any regular basis, and the last time I did, it wasn't in HD. Perhaps they've switched over recently.

I really think David Caruso looks awful on CSI: MIAMI. His face looks ashen compared to the glowing counternances of his fellow actors, and the HD camera spares us not a single wrinkles, line, or freckle. I'm not sure he wears any make-up either, which also gives us a "what you see is what you get" picture.

[sigh] Three more hours to be be recorded and watched with great anticipation. In fact, I'll probably watch UGLY BETTY and record MY NAME IS EARL/THE OFFICE so I'll have them for replay later since they're usually so good that I want to experience them a second time.

I would immediately put OKLAHOMA! and CAROUSEL on the list for Tony Awards since they both pre-dated the Tonys and you just can't get much better than either of them. I'd add WEST SIDE STORY to the list and GYPSY, neither of which won the Tony the year of eligibility.

I'd also put FOLLIES there though many wouldn't call it perfect. When I saw it at the Winter Garden, "perfect" wasn't a strong enough word to give to my evening.

I'd add INTO THE WOODS here and RAGTIME.

As for plays, I'd put two of Tennessee Williams' classics that didn't win TOnys: A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE and CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF. I'd put PICNIC there, too.

Willa ford who had been in the bottom the last 2 weeks was the first one safe.  The bottom 2 were: jerrry springer and harry hamlin, with harry going.  As i said yesterday, I liked him but he was not that strong. In fact i'd say jerry is by far the weakest and then sara followed by harry. Although sara seems very popular.

I think the strongest are mario and joey for the men. And then willa, and vivica and monique for the women.

Btw, DR Cillaliz that was funny that i wrote marion when i meant i voted for mario!

I'm having lunch with best friend John today, and we're going to a restaurant which is closing its doors this weekend after 34 years - The Athens Restaurant. The property was owned by the city's community college, and they need the lot for parking, so after this weekend, it will be history. Having done many shows at that college, we ate many late night meals there. This will be a last hurrah.

I'd recommend "Coming Home"---a scene towards the end where a group of high school students have just listened to a pitch by someone from the armed services (you don't hear what he had to say but you don't need to, he was obviously there to recruit).  Then Jon Voigt talks to the students about his experiences at Vietnam...I'm always blown away by the power of this scene.

 An Irish Sea Faery (http://pages.ripco.net/~loona/Garden/faeries/merrow.htm)

Quote
.
   Her Legend:

She has a tail like a fish, and her fingers are webbed. The word merrow means seamaid. The Mermen, they say, have green teeth and are ugly. But the women are beautiful.

Merrows are closely related to Selchies - the seal people. In fact, she sometimes travels through the sea in a sealskin cloak, which she takes off on land. She is also said to wear a red cap.

There are many ancient and wonderful mermaid tales. Legend has it that when the merrow comes ashore, she takes off her sealskin cloak. Any mortal who finds it has power over the merrow. Thus, in many legends, she is forced to marry a human man and live on land.

She may lend her red cap to a human, so he can swim with her under the sea. She may even grow to love him, and have children by him, but she will forever miss the sea.

She cannot return to the sea until she has her cloak. Once she finds it, she will be gone. Anyone see "The Secret of Roan Innish?"

Once On This Island and The Secret Garden are shows that 'd want to win Tony Awards® ;D

They were originally up against each other and Miss Saigon, but The Will Rogers Follies was the big winner that year.

I've seen all four; I won't opine on which one should have won - sufficeth to say it is NOT "Will Rogers".

They have identified the Colorado school shooter.

 DIGUSTING DETAILS (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,216238,00.html)

This part is particuarly troubling:
Quote
Morrison apparently dressed himself like a student and walked around the school before taking any hostages.

"We knew there as kind of something wrong with the guy when we had seen him ... it's a small community where we know everybody," student Joshua Bellomy told FOX News. "He was trying to blend in with us but some of the students there tried to talk to him and knew that he was older and didn't know what was going on with him."

This guy:
got to "blend in" with the students? Just what does it take to scare kids nowadays?

In any case...

A couple of days ago, I noticed something shiny on one of my front tires.  Upon closer inspection, I realized it was the tire itself - it was worn down to the tread.  YIKES!  So...

I just dropped my car off at NTB to get a new set of tires.  I'm not too keen about making such an investment in my car at this point and time since I'm going to "retire" it next month, but better safe than sorry - especially with at least two car trips down and back to Richmond, and at least one more up and back to NYC.  -Thankfully, the tires were also relatively cheap.

*OH!  I noticed the tire wear the same day I noticed that someone had hit my car in the theatre's parking lot.  -Of course, no one left a note.  Whoever it was, hit the left rear bumper which is plastic.  It looks like someone was pulling out, and scraped my car with their bumper.  So, it's a little "crack-y" right now, but it's still firmly secured to the car.  And the scratched up paint and dent looks worse than it really is.  People were encouraging me to get a police report for my insurance, but since my deductible is currently more than the Blue Book value of the car...  I opted to get new tires.  ;)

Seems the  Florida Incident (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,216346,00.html) involved some not-so-sharp shooting policmen:

Quote
The suspect showed police a fake ID, then asked if he was going to be arrested. One of the deputies said "I don't know," then the suspect ran into the nearby woods. The two deputies and a canine dog pursued the suspect, and around 12:30 p.m. ET, "numerous" shots were fired, said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

"As a result of that incident, two of our deputies have been shot, the canine's been shot and the suspect's still at large," Judd told reporters shortly before 3 p.m. ET Thursday.

NYC Health Department Proposes Ban on Trans Fats  (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,215983,00.html)
Quote
Wednesday, September 27, 2006

NEW YORK — Three years after the city banned smoking in restaurants, health officials are talking about prohibiting something they say is almost as bad: artificial trans fatty acids.

The city health department unveiled a proposal Tuesday that would bar cooks at any of the city's 24,600 food service establishments from using ingredients that contain the artery-clogging substance, commonly listed on food labels as partially hydrogenated oil.

Artificial trans fats are found in some shortenings, margarine and frying oils and turn up in foods from pie crusts to french fries to doughnuts

I had a wonderful good-bye lunch at the Athens Restaurant. A sign on the door said they were attempting to find another venue and re-open, but that often does not happen here when restaurants close after a long time. There's something about a time and place that seems special and can't be recaptured in another venue.

And I found THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES infinitely more entertaining than MISS SAIGON or THE SECRET GARDEN. I loathed MISS SAIGON (dreary score, overproduced, and a soapy book that sought to seem important but was merely derivative), but THE SECERT GARDEN had superb moments amid some tedious ones. WILL ROGERS was not meant to be anything but pure entertainment from beginning to end, and I found it totally disarming. Not a great show but a great entertainment.

I finished watching the GREY'S ANATOMY that I had begun last night before switching over to prime time TV. Then, I went back to the Super Bowl episode and its follow-up, and rewatched them with the audio commentaries on. The writer-producer made some very interesting comments on her approach to the writing of these episodes. The director (Peter Horton) and film editor were also there to add expertise to the experience of putting these two memorable shows together.

Really enjoyed hearing about their working relationships.

Then I watched last night's CSI: NY. Two cases of equal weight. One involved three female jewelry store robbers dressed as Holly Golightly getting away with a fortune in gems. That story didn't go where I expected at all.

The other involved a mummified body found in an abandoned building. It was the lesser of the two cases through it had some interesting facets to it as well.

I just read that NBC has decided not to run CROSSING JORDAN in the Friday 8 p.m. time period as originally intended this season. Instead, they're priming a game show called "1 Vs. 100" to go in that slot and saving JORDAN for utility duty later (similar to MEDIUM and SCRUBS, two other known quantities being held back until needed).

My guess is that JORDAN will be inserted into the Wednesday at 10 time slot now occupied by KIDNAPPED. Last night's ratings were down 25% from the season premiere, a distant third in the time period, and NBC will never settle long for that kind of rating on such an important night. I'm guessing that KIDNAPPED will be NBC's first cancellation of the new season.

BTW, JUSTICE's rating was up a little bit last night from the previous week, so it bought itself a little more time.

That's great news about the room, BK!  It's always nice to have a happy hotel experience.  When my sister, niece and I went to London (the one and only time I've been), we were at a hotel that was not very nice.  Downstairs in the lobby, there were always several people who worked at the place smoking and we had to walk up through the layer of cigarette smoke to get to our room. :P

And the room itself was freaky.  There were two beds on the main level and then a built-in ladder up to a loft with one bed, but the loft area was probably only four feet tall!  I climbed up there with out much problem, but I couldn't even sit up without hitting my head on the ceiling!

And then they had what was called a "toilet en suite," which was a prefab closet-like bathroom structure that had a toilet, sink and shower area.  But the sink was right at the door, and you really couldn't shut the door if you wanted to stand in front of the sink...AND the darn shower drained so slowly, that it practically filled up the whole floor area with shower water! :o Fortunately, the floor area of the "toilet en suite" had a lip high enough that it never overflowed into the room.  We wanted to leave that first night, but had to stay two nights because of the contract had a minimum-night-stay clause.

Here in Olympia, my sister's boyfriend found another place on-line, phoned her with the info and we headed out and went to a very nice hotel that had what I think of as Ikea-inspired furniture (my sister LOVES Ikea ;)).  The rest of the trip was otherwise a great experience because we were able to get out of that first hotel. ;D

I was totally charmed by UGLY BETTY, and I think this should be a real sleeper. She's completely engaging, and the fact that her wolfish boss finally realized what a jewel he had gives great promise for the run of the series.

Yep, it'll be an uphill battle for the two with so many conspiring against them, but the whole cast was interesting and engaging (for good or bad reasons).

Simply loved Betty's young nephew. Obviously a Q-I-T and delightfully so. Liked her father very much as well. And Vanessa Williams has room to grow from the caricature she enacted in this pilot.

All in all, a tremendous start for this delightful show.

GREY'S ANTOMY (on the network) had a lighter in some ways episode than the usual (though there certainly were serious moments). And yet, I teared up all the same at several junctures during the show. The show just does that to me.

CSI kept one mystery dangling at the end of the hour, but we did get Catherine's case solved in surprising fashion, and in a way that made it clear why this was a two part episode with last week's season premiere. Until the end, I really wasn't clear on why these cases were tied together at all.
