Well, you've read the notes, the notes ranted in the key of rant, and now it is time for you to post until the ranting cows come home.

And the word of the day is: GIRASOL!

Topic of the Day: I have never watched any streaming limited series.

And now that my show is over, it's back to normal.

Let’s watch The Idol trailer to see if I could stomach it…
-
Avg rating of 24 on Metacritic lol
-
Trailer watched. As my G.I. Joe pull-string talking backpack used to say:
Looks bad. Be careful!
-
The words “trying too hard” also come to mind.

Good morning, all!

I slept in, then I got caught up in the orchestra score and mp3 of No. 17 that arrived in ths morning's email.
-
DR JohnG, I'm happy you are safely in Hawaii. Did I miss it? Did you ever get lei'd?

DR Iris, I will miss tonight's concert of Peter's music, and it saddens me to not be there. Peter's wife Kate and I have been communicating, and I explained to her that being out after dark on a walker terrifies, although I did do that when BK was in town, but my big obstacle was maneuvering that walker in and out of a theatre. I believe there will be videos, and I wish it a huge success for Kate and their daughter Grace.
-
Peter was a wonderful man. I do miss him very much. When I get my new computer, I don't know who to ask to set it up now that he's gone.

This morning, I have laundry. I will take Ethan Mordden's new book Gays on Broadway with me. He's such a bullshit artist.

DR I*ris, here's the poster for tonight's concert. I am so sorry I can't be there.

Good morning to everyone I hope everyone has a fantastic week.

Good morning!

BK's former landlord, James Marsden, was a guest on this morning's "Morning Joe". The cause was Amazon FreeVee's top-rated "Jury Duty", which premiered April 7th.
The premise is this: A trial jury is selected comprised of all actors but one. The "one" is an actual non-actor and everyone conducts himself or herself as an actual jury member and attempt to keep the one non-actor clueless that it's a fake trial.
Marsden said he plays himself, as does everyone else, but that he portrays himself as an entitled person -- a heightened version of what an entitled "star" would be.
It looks interesting, so I will likely check it out.
-
I finished the fourth and final season of "Manifest" last night.
I enjoyed it. I will say that the final episode had me worried for about five minutes (i.e. are they really going to screw it up??), but the resolution was extremely satisfying and moving.
If you are a fan, I recommend it.
-
I slept well. I woke up all congested with my sinuses creaking through my head and being unpleasant. So, I got up earlier than I might have done.
-
I know I dreamed. I did. I really did.
I simply cannot recall a bit of it other than I thought it was pleasant.
-
Golly, am I seriously the only one here right now?
There aren't even any guests.
-
I should probably stop posting.
-
But we are so close to...
-
...page 3, that I feel I should at least finish this one.
-
DR DR Iris, this is for you!

Thank you, DR singdaw! 😊

I'm going to write a bit about my friend Peter Foley. I met him in the spring, 2001. John McGlinn was going to record a lot of Kern and Herbert for the Packard Humanities Institute, and my friend Russell Warner would be his Kern editor and I would be the Herbert one. We had a meet and greet at the office, which was on East 72nd Street between East End Avenue and the river. I met Matthew Brookshire, our office manager, Curtis Moore, who was supervising the music preparation, and his team of copyists: Chris Deschene, Dan Acquisto, and Peter Foley.
The project didn't last ,more than two years for McGlinn, but it kept me, Curtis, Peter, and Chris busy till PHI closed us down in 2011. Russell Warner died, Tom Murray, who had been working as a copyist from Chicago, moved to New York and left the project around 2008, to be a musical director for Steve Flaherty and Jason Robert Brown. I don't think Dan Accquisto was around more than a year, but Curtis, Chris, Peter, and I stayed together.
-
When PHI closed us down, we moved to a new foundation to record musical theatre. Between 2010, after John McGlinn's death, and 2014, Curtis, Peter, and Chris acted as my music prep team to prepare Victor Herbert's Eileen, Richard Rodgers' Dearest Enemy, and Kern's Roberta for recording. In summer 2012, Curtis - who's a wonderful composer - was going around the world with Kevin Spacey's company of actors doing a Shakespeare play, so Peter spent weeks in the office with me as we printed and taped orchestra parts for Dearest Enemy. In summer 2013, Curtis was off on another project, so Peter and I repeated our work to finish up Roberta before I flew to Dublin to record in August.
-
The last time I saw Peter and Curtis was in March 2017 after a performance of the encores! production of The New Yorkers, which Josh clayton and I orchestrated. I had seen Peter occasionally between the closing of the foundation office and then. When I was given a new computer in 2014, he came to my apartment to set it up, and I took him to lunch to thank him. He would come by to visit and we talked about composers we liked, our relationships with Sondheim, opera, and his search something to turn intro a musical. I would occasionally call him with a suggestion, or I would send him a book I thought might be of interest. I kept in touch with him as well because I worried about his health and his cancer treatments.
That night in March 2017, the three of us swore to keep in touch. Sadly, we all went on to other projects and concerns; Curtis got married and his composing career moved nicely along; Peter had a family, a composer concerns, and cancer to battle; I scrounged for work, adopted cats, and got caught up in the depression my lack of work provoked. Then the pandemic isolated everyone and I fought my own cancer battles. I never suspected while I dealth with cancer, an operation, and radiation treatments that Peter's cancer was killing him.
-
This morning on Facebook, I posted my wishes to Rob Berman and Peter's wife, Kate Chisholm, my wishes for a successful concert of Peter's music tonight. Curtis, who's been helping Kate with Peter's music posted "Peter loved you so much Larry." I read that and burst into tears. I loved him so much./

Well, I got the ferkakte trimmer working. What it really needs is a tune-up, meaning I go to the power equipment store and buy a replacement spark plug, air filter, and ... uh, I forget what else, but I need to do all of that and then it'll feel more like starting and running.
In the meantime, I took out the old spark plug, which looked like hell, and sanded/shined the contacts as best I could. A couple of days ago I took out the air filter that was damp and smelled like fuel, and let it sit out to dry as best it could. put that back in, and it finally started. It ran really rough for about five minutes and kept wanting to stall, which it did a few times, but I persevered. And by golly, once that was done, we got through a nice trimming session together.
Probably go down to the store tomorrow to pick up those and a few other things. The next chore is to get at least one of the chain saws working. And that, I can tell you right now, is a real chore. Those things are notorious for being challenging to maintain and hard to start. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. One step at a time, DR ChasSmith, one step at a time.

I shall be off in a bit for a rehearsal of the FULL PLAY of The Play That Goes Wrong....we shall see what happens.
I would guess by the time I get there - the 25 tickets left for GREASE will have been sold.
I will say again that I need to be told when to announce the added performance.
-
I think Jury Duty looks interesting.
On Friday night while I was waiting for something else to come on, I scrolled past HBO and saw the title THE IDOL.
I stopped to watch a few minutes. Who I can only assume is the leading lady was wearing some type of black mini bikini and filming a music video....it was as bad as MR BK says it was.....I didn't watch anymore because I figured watching nothing was better than watching THE IDOL.

When I got back the gas valve in the front of the house next to the driveway was hissing and smelling of gas like crazy. I immediately went inside and wrote Grant - then it stopped, so I went outside and thankfully Grant's handyman had shut off the gas. Someone pulled into the driveway, which happens a lot - people pull in and pull out to turn around - they must have pulled in pretty far and hit the gas valve with their tire - it's almost impossible to see if you're in a car but if you get too close to the left side pulling in the driveway, and then back up without being super careful then I guess this is the result. Handyman couldn't fix it so the gas company was called and amazingly were here in thirty minutes. He's out there now fixing whatever broke, then he'll check both water heaters, my stove and hot water and heater and then the back house stove and water heater. Don't know exactly when he'll be through. Seems like a very nice fellow.

We found a nice looking restaurant for dinner overlooking the Deschutes River.

I ordered a Woodford Reserve neat before dinner. Usually that means a shot, or more if they are generous.

Maybe 5 or 6 shots worth.
