Well, you've read the notes, you've fixated on the notes, the notes have fixated on you, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're just bidin' time, 'cause that's the kind of cows - oops, need a rhyme.
-
And the word of the day is: SPECULUM!
-
PIPPIN!!!
How cute!
DR Jrand, you’d right away have to train him to toilet in right place. :)
-
This's my first experience on making the first post!
-
I'll be on a flight to Los Angeles this time tomorrow.
Exciting!
-
To East coasters,
Have beautiful gatherings in NYC!!!
To Other dear readers,
Have a wonderful weekend!!!
-
'morning, DR elmore! Glad you made it back to NYC and that you survived your week out here in the hinterlands!
DR Hisaka - have a lovely time in LA!
-
I'll be on a flight to Los Angeles this time tomorrow.
Exciting!
DRHisaka, have a safe trip and a good time!
Good morning, all; I see DRGinny of the pecan pie, but where is DRTomovoz?
Oy! nightmares last night; something about a house and demons, but it's fading now.
TOD: I have to think about it.
-
I detect a trend here: DR elmore at Miami University, bk at the high school career night, and this morning I'm off to the University of Dayton to talk to a proposal writing class about grants research resources.
Be back at lunchtime...
-
I'm here. I'm here. I'm Here.
Good morning all..
Bedtime in OZ .Well it is for someone my age!
As for the trend - I should be replying to an invitation to a "Reunion" of teachers and staff where I taught in 1980.
-
The morning crew is back together. Goodnight Sweet Tom, may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.
Good Morning Sweet Larry. The busy week is about to begin and you'll barely have time to recoup before a certain man from Oregon arrives.
-
We are still attending Mildred Pierce this evening at Chelsea Cinemas, meeting at 6:30 in front of the theatre. Any NY Hainsies wishing to attend, you know what I look like so fee free to drop by and look for me (with Anthony) and Jason (although he doesn't look like his avatar, if he did I would be afraid, very afraid).
-
Thank you for the Angels Ben. I'll probably end up with the "Hell's" variety.
-

I know! I have to clean off the fire escape for him today.

Topic of the day:
AMOUR (Broadway version, didn't see it at Goodpeed) - I assume there are plenty of musicals in France that are like AMOUR, but while I didn't think it was high quality 100% of the way through, it was unlike anything I'd actually seen, and I cherished the experience
BELLE EPOQUE at Lincoln Center Theater - Possibly unusual for the sake of being unusual, but I loved it.
CROWNS at Second Stage - A beautiful, inspiring concept musical about, of all things, different hats that people wear at different times in their lives. To me, it was just as breathtaking as I imagine CHORUS LINE must have been to those who discovered that show before it became "the thing to see" - unfortunately, CROWNS didn't move after Second Stage, but it seems to be done around the country quite a lot.
MOVIN' OUT - I know some people think it's just a standard ballet, but to me it was unique and one-of-a-kind. Twyla Tharp is trying to make lightning strike twice, but until she does, I count MOVIN' OUT on my list of one-offs.
I know I'll be called a shill (oh wait, that's a different chat board where they do that, not here :) ), but I must add HERRINGBONE (which Skip wrote with Tom Cone and Ellen Fitzhugh) to the list of one-off, one-of-a-kind shows. The one-off-ness of HERRINGBONE also makes it one that is not produced nearly as often as people seem to think it's produced. I won't comment on the quality of the music since that would be too shilly, but it is unique, to say the least. And a joy to watch when it's done well.
If I may add a Vegas show, I don't think I've ever seen anything like "O" - but I don't know if that counts as part of the topic of the day since it's not a play, musical or concert.
-
Sending wishes and vibes of strength to Jason's family.
-
Good morning!
.. Just checking in before I ready myself for today's callbacks...
Safe travels to everyone.
-
RE: "Mildred Pierce" - I don't think I'll be able to make it tonight. We'll be going right until 6:30 - which means we'll be going until 7:00. However, if by chance I can make it, I'll give DR Jason a call on his cell. Otherwise, Enjoy!
-
BK - RE: your mention of the weather this week in LA - the "return" of summer. I remember last year at this time, the same thing happened. I remember having lunch with a friend in the Valley the closing week of What If - and watching the temperature sign on the bank across the street from the restaurant creeping up from 90 to 91 to 92 to... 96! throughout the afternoon.
Another trend? Hmm...
-
OK - I gotta go...
-OH! DR elmore - I'll call you in a bit....
Laters....
-
Mornin', everyone...
No news from the family so far. No news is good news, I suppose.
I will, indeed, be joining DR Ben and DP Ant to see "Mildred Pierce" tonight. At first I thought it might be unseemly to do so, considering the circumstances with my grandmother, but I'd rather have the distraction than sit at home and worry. And the good company is always a plus, too.
Carrot-Stick girl is out of the office today. Thank God for small miracles. Problem is, one of our other reps from my region is out sick today, too. And the third one is leaving at 3:30, leaving me as the only rep in the southern region for the last 2 hours of the day. That means I'll be handling business for approximately half of the country. Oh, rapture. I wonder what they'd do if I got "the call" from my dad and had to leave...
-
Show's I've seen that have been like no other....? Hmm...
I agree with FJL - AMOUR was unlike anything I'd seen or heard onstage before. I absolutely loved it.
THE LION KING is a very unique piece of theatre. I've never seen anything like CATS, either (that doesn't mean I liked it - I've just never seen anything like it). SLAVA'S SNOWSHOW, which is currently running off-Broadway, was stunning and I highly recommend it, unless you're afraid of clowns or confetti. Again, like nothing I've ever seen before. As cliche as it sounds, RENT is a unique theatrical experience, and I'd never seen dancing forks until I saw BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

When I opened my browser this morning this story popped up
Australians do ‘patriotic duty’: Birthrate up
Rate rises after official urges citizens to have ‘one for your country’
Updated: 3:36 a.m. ET Sept. 28, 2005
CANBERRA, Australia - Treasurer Peter Costello urged Australians to “do their patriotic duty” and have more children but it seems they were doing it anyway, just for fun. A new study shows the birthrate hitting its highest level in seven years.
A study by Australian National University demographer Peter McDonald showed the country’s birthrate at 1.77 per woman in 2004, its highest level since 1997. McDonald believes the rate will stay around 1.8 for the next 5-10 years.
“We’ve been calling for policies to support work and family for several years, and also there’s been a great deal of discussion about, ‘if you wait too long, there’s a chance that you won’t have the baby’,” McDonald said.
“That kind of public discussion has been pretty prominent and I think that has had its effect,” he said. During a budget speech in May last year, Costello urged Australians to have more children, telling couples to “have one for your husband, one for your wife and one for your country.”
Costello’s comments came as this country of 20.3 million people struggles to deal with an aging population. The government’s Productivity Commission has forecast that one in four Australians will be aged over 65 by 2045.

Ah to be in Austrailia now that Spring is in the air!!!
Off to catch up on the postings

Hisaka have a great time in my hometown. Bruce take her to the Santa Monica Pier and a ride on the Carousel then go to the cheese on a stick stand and have their fantastic lemonade.
-
FJL I agree with you about MOVIN’ OUT.
-
Good morning!
Cool enough to enjoy my walk this morning, but tomorrow's morning temps are to be in the upper 50s, so I will have a BIG smile on my face as I'm walking tomorrow.
-
I hope our DR Hisaka has a comfortable and safe journey to LA. Looking forward to reading about her visit.
-
I guess I'd have to say THE BELLE OF AMHURST, TRU, and I AM MY OWN WIFE, particularly the latter since the actor played so many roles and also the set was pretty elaborate for a one man show.
-
And in the musical category, I guess I'd have to say NAKED BOYS SINGING.
-
I still have THE OFFICE from Tuesday night and INVASION from last night to watch. Since I'm going out to lunch today, I'm not sure how much time I'll have this afternoon to watch any other DVDs other than the conclusion of SHALL WE DANCE.
-
Here I am at work now, after stopping at UD to talk to an English class. I gotta tell ya, college students are NOT interested in the Foundation Directory at 9am!

I have not been big on collecting movie musical soundtrack CDs. I usually prefer to watch and listen to the movie on DVD,laserdisc, or tape, but after enjoying the soundtrack to KISMET so much, I've decided to buy a few of the movie musical soundtracks that I really love.
To that end, yesterday I bought IT'S ALWAYS FAIR WEATHER. I'm hoping the tracks will be in stereo since it was recorded that way and is that way on the laserdisc I have from the Gene Kelly Collection laserdisc set.
And I also bought LOVELY TO LOOK AT. Not that it's one of my favorite movie musicals, but I certainly do love the ROBERTA score.
-
I'm so far behind on the posting... :-\
Yesterday, my day off, was filled with der Brucer and I running around Sussex County taking pictures again. First we went over to the SPCA, where we took pictures of Pepper, a brindle Aussie mix who was friendly but had releaving his bowels as his first priority. Can't say that I blame him. Then we took pictures of Sam, a yellow Lab, who wasn't quite as friendly, somewhat shy and stand-offish. Marlon, the sorta-cute attendant who usually helps us refused to handle Sam; apparently they don't get along.
While there, Marlon was busy enough working with a new arrival named Jake. Jake is a nine-foot-long Burmese boa constrictor, and very handsome, if you like snakes. He'll probably find a home at one of the local zoos, a much better bet than being taken in by some amateur who doesn't know how to handle snakes. Der Brucer was fascinated.
After that, we drove south to visit a man who is apparently losing his home for reasons he didn't explain. At least he's got his priorities in order: he is trying to find new homes for Beau, a handsome chocolate Lab, and Beau's son, Rocky, an equally handsome chocolate Lab/Pit Bull mix, about twelve weeks old. (Rocky's mother was also there, and she is definately of the loving Pit type, covering der Brucer with kisses.) Placing Beau should be easy, as there's a Lab rescue group nearby. Finding a home for Rocky will be harder, since the Lab rescue group isn't much interested in mixed breed dogs.
Then we returned home, where our own pack insisted that it was time for us to nap and cuddle.
-
And now I must clean up for my luncheon engagement.

Ginny, there are people in this office who are not interested in the Foundation Directory at 9am!
I'm not one of them since I work on a different publication ;)

A comment re: last night's LOST (no show spoilers just discussing how the show was done, but you still might not want to read it if you haven't watched the show yet).
It was interesting how they went back and filled in the gaps from last week. I don't think they've ever done a show that way before. I suppose there was just too much last week to go into detail. But I almost wish that they had just made it a two-parter and shown us everything at once.
I know most of us are smart. But I can't help but think some people must have been confused, since they were reshowing some stuff without really explaining that they were reshowing stuff. It was nice though to get the gaps filled in (since i truly thought we were not going to get more details about what we saw last week).

Well, these students are going to have to get interested in FD and other grantseeking resources, because they've been put in small groups and each group has been paired with a real nonprofit organization. The groups are to write a real proposal to a real potential funder for a real program/project. After I get back from NY/Atlanta, the groups are to meet with me for targeted consultations and on Nov. 22, I'll go back to the class to hear the group presentations.
-
Jennifer, part of Lost's appeal (for me) is that it can show so many different points of view. How they managed to do that over the last two eps just shows how good the writing is.
And with that, I have to get going for work. Laters.
-
Well, I'm up in time to take a shower and leave for my meeting at work at 9:30...but I just had to pop in and say to DR Hisaka, have a great and safe (and sane) trip to BK Land (and environs)!!
-
Btw, for those fans of ALIAS, season premiere is tonight at 8pm.

I think this is one of the reasons LOST ranks so high both with viewers and with critics. It does not talk down to the audience or assume folks have to be provided every scrap of information in every episode. The writers are taking their time giving us the entire picture.
spoilers --
And, not only were were filled in on the blanks from last week's "hatch" plot, but we also got blanks filled in about the sad story of Michael and Walt that we had gotten some details about last season. But now we saw how Michael had tried to block Walt's mother from taking him out of the country and how they eventually avoided going to court.
Superb writing and superb construction of episode arcs and backstories.
-
Oy! Tonight is one crowded night on the TV schedules.
Not only are ALIAS and SMALLVILLE starting their seasons, but also it's the series premiere of the update to NIGHT STALKER (opposite CSI). And I'm still into REUNION also at 9 so another juggling scenario for me.
And tonight is the LIVE episode of WILL & GRACE which I must watch. (and for West Coasters, they're doing the entire episode again LIVE at 8:30 p.m. your time as well.)
-
For those who like SCRUBS and don't like THE OFFICE, I read that NBC is planning on SCRUBS rejoining the schedule in October, and I'm guessing it's going into the timeslot now occupied by THE OFFICE (Tuesday at 9:30) while it goes on the shelf. I'm thinking that whichever show scores better ratings coming after MY NAME IS EARL, that's the show that will play out the rest of the season. The other one will more than likely be canceled.
-
And now my ride for lunch is here so I must vamoose.
WBBL.
-
I'm up, I'm up - had to wait until Microsoft Office performed its update, which was huge.
The first Stages/Together Again review is in, and it's nice.

BK - Lovely review. The critic seems to really have enjoyed not only this album, but also your body of work in general a great deal. Congratulations.

Is this another slow news day here at haineshisway? Do I have to get out the bitch-slap machine?
-
Adding to my list of one-of-a-kind shows, I'd have to say that THE KENTUCKY CYCLE, while uneven in quality, was highly unusual. Spending the full day immersed in a theatrical event can be very exciting (NICHOLAS NICKLEBY and ANGELS IN AMERICA come to mind as examples of where you could see both parts in one day), but KENTUCKY CYCLE just had a peculiar magic to it, that it held together as a toatl event without being one long two-part story, and yet felt like a full experience.
Also, the main advertising-guy section of CONTACT. I've never seen anything like that as well.
-
The lovely (and on some chat boards, controversial) Do-Re-Milla just stopped by to pick up some music. That's one of the highlights of my day so far. But then, seeing Milla is always a highlight.

This will be my post number 414 (which is 414 spelled backwards.)
Obviously, a slow work day here. :)

I don't know whythis here HHW site doesn't like me anymore. It keeps throeing me out and not letting me back in. I guess I have to check if my security levels were changed again

I It keeps throeing me out
Maybe its my spelling/typing?

Yesterday morning I was "de-sited" and try as I might I could not login again.
Last night I was out to "Meet the Teachers" and didn't get home until after 10. I was too pooped to type so I went right to the bedroom ennvironment
-
I've been tossed out a few times today already but I seem to be getting backk in alright.
-
My screen on this site looked funny for a while. Then on a hunch, I just logged in again, and everything got back to normal. Except for the fact that the MODIFY function seems to have disappeared.
-
JRand, your new puppy is adorable... burt why Pippin? Iwould have thought you'd name him Angel!
-
Dear Jason
You , your grandmother are all in my heart and prayers.
Please let us know how she and you are doing.
-
It is a rainy, grey and dreary day here on the Island of Long
-
Modify that last post of mine. The MODIFY function seems to be there after all.
But at least that got me a couple of extra posts on the way to #500. :)

Let's do a page three RAIN DANCE in honor of the dreary weather.
-
Dear Jane
Be careful out there with that bear roaming about. Do you have your bells on? Are you carrying pepper spray?
-
Thanks, vixmom.
I'm wondering if I'm being a little too ambitious trying to make Godhood by next Wednesday, though. But as they say, you gotta reach for the heavens. (Not sure exactly who said that, but it seemed like the right thought.)
-
Are you referring to Hot Dog On A Stick (http://www.hotdogonastick.com/frames.html)?
Yep, but I eat the cheese on a stick. I think they now have tofu on a stick-can't wait to try that on our next visit. I only eat at the one on the pier. The ones located in the malls just aren't as good.
-
Or is the right expression eye of the tiger? Like in the ROCKY movie.
-
At the engagement party I went to on Sunday, they had a flowing chocolate fondue fountain. So just about everything you could imagine (dessert-wise, that is) was being eaten on a stick with chocolate coating.
No hot dogs or tofu on a stick, though.
-
Dear Jane
Be careful out there with that bear roamingabout. Do you ghave your bells on? Are you carrying pepper spray?
No and no ;D but then I'm not walking alone in the woods, yet. I usually do that in the winter after it snows. Honestly I have never done it alone, always with Echo-so I'm not sure what I will do this winter. As for walking in the woods I do that with a friend and we talk the entire time which must be louder than bells chiming.
-
He's NO angel, DRVIXMOM. LOL
Thanks to everyone for the nice Pippin comments. He seems to be fitting in well.
-
Oh, and my friend has a black lab mix.
-
Let's do a page three RAIN DANCE in honor of the dreary weather.
OK
I feel better already

Pretty dance.

I have that painting, only in white. And by "in white," I mean the figures in the painting are caucasian.
-
Nice review, MR BK!
Hmmm....
Judy Garland in concert in 1966 - I think I have the same souvenir book you have DR MATTH...with an Orange Cover.
4 GIRLS 4 with Rosemary Clooney, Margaret Whiting, Rose Marie, and Helen O'Connell. They were all great and very funny.
LOS DIAVOLOS - an Italian dance-acrobatic troup.
AIDA - the musical by DR JOSE's boss Sir Elton John. Didn't know the score didn't know anything about it....but I liked it a LOT!
-

You mean she goes in costume? ;D
you can hit me on Wednesday! :D

They had that at a wedding we attended last year. The kids that were there were standing around with their eyes opened so wide that you think they could never close them again.

There was one of those chocolate fountains at a nonprofit opening reception I attended recently. I learned that there's no dainty way to eat a full-sized marshmallow that's dripping with chocolate.
-
Mike Barnum, I noticed in my TV guide that the local NYC channel is having a 1/2 hour program on Friday evening about Little India
I was planning to try and tape it for you, but you will probably see it before you see me...
Do you want me to tape it anyway? :)
-
Okay, golfing HHW'ers. What is a mulligan?

No dainty way to eat a whole marshmallow covered with chocolate? Probably true. You would have been surprised (well, I was anyway) at how many people took their chocolate-drenched booty off the stick and ate it with a fork.
-
Here it is noon already and I am still in my bathrobe. I spent a good part of the morning doing a telephonic interview with actor Rex Reason (brother of Rhodes). What a delight it was! I have been a fan of Rex Reason's since I was a small child seeing him in CREATURE WALKS AMONG US and RAW EDGE...and what a handsome guy...he still looks good in fact (he was at the Ray Court show in July).
PS: JRanb55, he did remember Allison!
-
Okay, golfing HHW'ers. What is a mulligan?
mul·li·gan (ml-gn)
n.
A golf shot not tallied against the score, granted in informal play after a poor shot especially from the tee.
-
BK, I am enjoying your reviews of the spaghetti westerns...I have a few of them starring Richard Harrison and Ken Clark and some others, but have not watched them yet. I did not care for the Clint Eastwood ones that I saw as a kid, so I have not been in any rush to see the ones that I have here, even though I did put forth the dough to buy them! LOL!
-
Mulligan:
-
Richard Harrison as a cowboy? Too many clothes!
Rex remembered Allison? Very good news.
-
Thanks DRs VIXMOM and JASON...LOL.
A teenager is suing a charity because he made a $10,000 hole in one, and they said he had a mulligan. Interesting. They will spend more than that defending the case. Teen says it wasn't against the stated rules.

Is it Rex who was on Here's Lucy? Or was that Rhodes?

Oh, that would be wonderful Vixmom! If you see Elmore you can just give it to him as I will staying on his fire escape for the first 3 nights in town, and I may be able to watch prior to my visit to Little India (as I haven't decided what day to do that you...might not be until Thursday).

Rex was also in THE GIANT CLAW with Mara Corday - close friend of Allison Hayes - and widow of Richard Long.

JRand55, that is Jeff Morrow you are thinking of.

The rain has gone away and suddenly we have beautiful blue skies and lots of sun!

Is that the Rhodes less traveled by?

Now, that is what I want to hear! Sun and warm weather for all of this coming week in New York City!!
-
Thanks DRGINNY.
How could I forget DR CILLA LIZ!!!
Special travel vibes for DR CILLA LIZ, ESQ.
-
Oh that's right, DRMBARNUM...Jeff Morrow. I was all mixed up!
-
Very cool today.....58 degrees. Fall!
-
Oy and vey, the day is getting away from me. I must run out and see what the mail situation is, then I must get ready for Career Night - I now have directions, so I can at least get to the jernt. I have to be there at four.
-
INVASION semi-spoiler:
Watched last night's INVASION today. I did get pulled into the story though I don't quite understand the little girl's change of heart. Perhaps this is information (or shock) we'll get next week.
Eddie Cibrian is quite nice to look at in his boxer briefs.
-
Yes, DR JRand, my Judy Garland souvenir program has an orange cover with the sketch of her that is in the Palace (or used to be).
-
Same program....LOL.
Break a leg at Career Night!
-
I got a neat DVD in the mail today and also the revival cast CD of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS which I've been meaning to buy for ages.

Friday the 30th. I have it in my day planner.
-
This morning I went for a walk and I saw this flock of ibises:
-
Here is a fuzzy picture of an ibis closer-up:
-
I also finished Garbo's CONQUEST. She gives a beautiful performance, and had not CAMILLE premiered the same year, she surely would have been Oscar nominated for this work.
Charles Boyer was nominated playing Napoleon in this film, and he does give a very fine performance.
Of course, Alan Marshal provided nice eye candy as Napoleon's bodyguard. As beautiful as he was and with that lilting English accent, I'm surprised he didn't have a bigger career.

Granny update: Dad said she's feeling a little better today than she was last night, which is good. She was able to sit up for a little while today and had a couple of bites of lunch and isn't complaining of any pain today, but she's not "out of the woods" yet.
These HHW vibes are powerful!! Keep sending them her way. I appreciate it and I'm sure she does, too.
-
Hope she continues her improvement, DR Jason.
-
Now, that is what I want to hear! Sun and warm weather for all of this coming week in New York City!!
especially since you'll be sleeping on a fire escape and all...
-
And a happy HHW birthday to Ms. Debbie Shapiro!!
-

They got me home in one piece.
-
And a happy HHW birthday to Ms. Debbie Shapiro!!
Most folk know her since she was a Gravitte; Bruce knew her when she was a Shapiro.
-
I never can remember if she's still Gravitte-Shapiro or Shapiro-Gravitte or if she's just dropped the last half of the name or what.

I just read that the touring company of DOCTOR DOLITTLE is closing this Sunday. What a surprise! It was scheduled to play here in November. Guess the producers of the local Broadway Lights series will be scrambling for a replacement.
-
Can it be? The REAL Jason?
Will you be wearing your hat on Wednesday for easy identification?
-

Yes someone mentioned that here earlier, they were supposed to be seeing it, Cillaliz I beleive it was....
-
I got a lovely surprise package today - the hardcover of my book, here much earlier than they said it would be. It looks great, so now maybe they'll actually get my order here before the due date.
-
Gotta love fake e-mails that claim to be from PayPal. Just got two of 'em in ten minutes!
-
Yes, that's the real Jason if you consider a thick layer of stage makeup and two layers of costumes to be "real." I will not be wearing the hat, though looking at the picture, I must say I looked spiffy in it (it makes my forehead look MUCH smaller than it really is).

Good news! I can't wait to read mine. Will you be "numbering" the first fifty that you send out with your autograph?
-

Yes, I always seem to get them in "2's" as well. I always forward them to the paypal spoof email address which has just fallen out of my brain. SORRY CANNOT ACCESS THAT FILE
ah the glories of growing old....

I have gotten those before. I got a fake one from Amazon last week. Deleted them all!
-

DRJason, your new avatar is quite fetching; are you doing a version of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE?
-

It's easy enough... spoof@paypal.com :D
-
Going down to clean the bedrooms and hallway now. Will be back later tonight with a full report on the TV shows I've watched.
Since WILL & GRACE is live tonight, I'm going to have to watch it live so that means this week ALIAS will be recorded. Most weeks, I'll be watching it during its air time and recording JOEY/WILL & GRACE.
-
DRJason, your new avatar is quite fetching; are you doing a version of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE?
How did you know? I was Mary, the blind one.
Haha! No...actually, that was the production of MY FAIR LADY that firmly established my body image issues (see the posts from a couple of days ago) when I was understudying Freddy Eynsford-Hill. The guy who I was understudying was 6'2 and weighed about 14 pounds. You've seen me - we were like Laurel and Hardy up there - and I was 15-20 lbs. lighter back then!!
-
It's easy enough... spoof@paypal.com :D
THAT"S IT!!!!!!
-
Gotta love fake e-mails that claim to be from PayPal. Just got two of 'em in ten minutes!
I got two in three days...but not to the e-mail address that I use for PayPal! :P
-
I got an Amazon spoof last week as well.
Thanks DRMATTH - TCB opens tomorrow! Whew!
I am going to see the Parsons Dance Project tomorrow night. Oy!
Nice hat, DR JASON! When were you in NEWSIES?
-
WILL & GRACE may be broadcasting live, but that show has been dead to me for a few years. Dead to me, do you hear, dead!
-
Would someone be willing/able to record (on SP) the East Coast broadcast of "Will and Grace" for me...actually, it's for my niece. She loves the show and had taped every episode (and keeps them until the DVDs are released). She (and I, I admit) would like to compare both versions. I'll be happy to swap. I'd be happy to send a tape (taped on SP) of the West Coast broadcast.
Any takers??
-
Oy and vey, the day is getting away from me. I must run out and see what the mail situation is, then I must get ready for Career Night - I now have directions, so I can at least get to the jernt. I have to be there at four.
"Oy Vey?" Are you now from Brooklyn?? According to THIS (http://www.comcast.net/news/strange/index.jsp?cat=STRANGE&fn=/2005/09/28/230941.html) on Comcast.net:
NEW YORK - "Leaving Brooklyn? 'Oy vey!'" That's what motorists now see as they cross the Williamburg Bridge into Manhattan. The huge sign, affixed to a cross beam of the bridge high above the bustling traffic, is a sweet victory for Marty Markowitz, president of the borough, home to a large Jewish population.
Here's a real (untouched) picture:
-
vixmom - I'm not sure what the special something-or-other that will be included with the book for the first fifty people will be - I'm still pondering.
-
My body issues are a little odd. I grew up very skinny, sort of a bone with skin on .
I could eat whatever ai wanted never gain weight....well at at the age of 30 my thyrpoid grew a lovely little tumor so the surgeon took haldf of it out, and the other half that was left promptly stopped working. I went fporm a size 3 to a size 18 in six months. The problem is I have a "skinny" body self image. I am constantly shocked when I see myself in the mirroror attempt to buy clothes
Who is that fat woman in the mirror there?
Who can that tub o'lard be?
Such a chubby face, such a chubby butt, such a chubby meeee!!!!
La la la!

I'll try but I won't promise if the vixdad is home I lose all control of the remote
::)
-
Oy Vey indeed! I must be leaving or ZI'll never be in time to get the Vixter from choir rehearsal.
Have fun at the movies tonight fellas!!
Laters!!!
-
I was a skinny kid, too, but when I hit high school, parts of my body started growing out of proportion - and not the parts that I WANTED to grow out of proportion, either. My calves, thighs and forearms are really big. No, REALLY big. I grew up being called Popeye. When I hit grad school I had to take ballet and jazz, which trimmed me up and toned me, but since moving to NY, I've been eating what I can afford (usually fast food) and haven't been able to afford dance classes, so I'm out of shape and I've got a layer of fat around my middle that's awfully stubborn.
-
I'm developing that edgy "I'm about to go on vacation and can't concentrate" feeling here at work. Tomorrow will be a long day, I'm afraid.
Bye for now.
-
Can't tape Will and Grace for you, George. Sorry. We are taping the premiere of Smallville for a friend who is out of town. Smallville runs from 8-9 and Will and Grace is on at 8:30 (EST).

Thanks for checking.
Vixmom, it's on at 8:30 p.m. tonight on NBC...as Ben just posted.
-
I shall shortly be on my way to John Marshall High School for Career Night. I have no clew what I'll be doing, since I don't represent a college or anything, but I shall endeavor to impart words of wisdom such as, "What is it, fish" and other such bon mots. At the very least, perhaps I'll recruit a young'un or two to join us on this here site.
Keep the home fries burning until my returning.
-
Happy Bithday Mr Johnny Mathis.
-
DR George I will record Will And Grace for you, and if nobody else has it I can send it to you.
What a totally crazy tv night with Survivor, Alias, The OC, Will and Grace and Smallville all on at the same time.
-
Thanks, Jennifer! Let me know if you want (or anyone else wants) the West Coast version, too. ;D
-
Thanks DRGINNY.
How could I forget DR CILLA LIZ!!!
Special travel vibes for DR CILLA LIZ, ESQ.
Why thank you, I don't go until Monday, but I'll save up the vibes
-

DR Matt, I posted the notice I got from Des Moines Civic Center yesterday.
-
This morning I couldn't get on to HHW. It just wouldn't come up on the screen, kept giving me an error message.
-
DR Danise, I know how you feel about pre-vacation at work. I think this afternoon I became a little annoying with my joy at being able to leave for a week.
-
Good Evening!
Two comments about today's auditions:
1) I work with some amazingly talented, generous and caring people.
2) The "depth" we had in our choices for Gloria, Meg and Lola was truly "deep" - and fortunate. After all was said and done, even if our first choice for each role happens to turn down the offer, we will still have a wonderful, and ideal cast. And we'll still have a great cast if for some strange reason we have to go to our third choice. The quality - and competition - was that good.
:)
-
I had to pass on seeing "Mildred Pierce" tonight with DRs Jason, Ben and Ant. After being "in session" all day, I just needed a nice quiet evening at home. And that's what I'm doing. -Just catching up on last night's TV viewing courtesy of the DVR - "So You Think You Can Dance?" and "Lost".
-Oh, and I may have to borrow someone's tape of "Will and Grace" tonight too. ;)
-

Oh Good!! I can't find a single blank tape in the whole dang house and I KNOW I just bought some... .. sorry Georege I am glad jennifer will have you covered!
-
DR Jose, do you know where to go to see pale male the red tailed hawk?
-
DR Danise, I know how you feel about pre-vacation at work. I think this afternoon I became a little annoying with my joy at being able to leave for a week.
Well, I guess I really shouldn't have danced while waiting for the elevator tonight but I couldn't help myself. ;D
Like DR Ginny, tomorrow is going to be one very, very, very (that's three verys) LLLLLLLOOOOOOOGGGGG day!
I won't have a bunch of time to post because I have all the last minute things I need to do and I want get to bed ASAP. Three O'clock AM will come very early that morning.
-
Oh, I saw several people on the board this morning but I couldn't get on fast enough to say "Good Morning" again. I think I saw TomovOz, Elmore and Ginny if I remember correctly so a very, very , very late "Good Morning" to all of you!
-
LOST
I just watched it via Tivo myself. Very good. Curiouser and curiouser as Alice would say. I have to say that it is my favorite show by far.
-
Danise, your HHW inbox is full! Thanks for the info. See you very soon.
-
Hmm... I'm sensing there's a distinct possibility that I will be in bed by 10:00 tonight... Hmmm....
"One WUSSBURGER with CHEESE...and BACON.... coming up!"
Hmmm....
-
whoops, let me clean it out again! I will be going to be shortly or longly.
-
Well, goodnight folks. I shall see you in my dreams and soon in person.
Safe travels to all. DR Hisaka, I hope you have a wonderful time in LA. I only sincerely wish that it was all of us in one place so we could smile and laugh and dance the horta (I know I never do spell that right) but maybe that will happen one day.
Nighters all!
-
DR Jose, do you know where to go to see pale male the red tailed hawk?
DR Cillaliz - did you read that book, too? My book group read it several years ago and I've wanted to go see that hawk ever since!
-
DRLaura thank you for reminding me to pack my camera for NY.
-
Good idea except Keith hasn't downloaded the film from our trip.
-
Jason GOOD VIBES for your Grandmother!!
This is my favorite avatar yet-very, very nice.
-
DR Cillaliz - did you read that book, too? My book group read it several years ago and I've wanted to go see that hawk ever since!
No, I didn't read it, but one of my best friends is a big birder and said,"This time, don't forget to try to see the pale male" so, I told her I would.
-
I got a lovely surprise package today - the hardcover of my book, here much earlier than they said it would be. It looks great, so now maybe they'll actually get my order here before the due date.
That is very exciting!! :D
-
'night, everybody. I have to rest up for my last day of work before my week off.
-
Wow, in the next two days there will be HHWers criss-crossing the globe!
-
DR George I did tape it. But just be warned that even though I taped it on NBC, it will have the Canadian commercials. Not that you will be watching the commercials. But just so you know.
-
Just got back from a fun night at the movies w/Jason and Anthony. More detail tomorrow when I'm more awake.
Wussburger with cheese, lettuce and tomato coming up!
Goodnight.
-
I'm back from a very long band rehearsal with Miss Faith Prince, whom I adore. My chart went well, but so did Don Sebesky's and Fred Barton's. As I was leaving, Ned Ginsburg was coming in to heaqr his. I'm sorry I missed it, but I was starving. I'm now having some delish matzoh ball soup from Arties.
-
DRJason, your new avatar is quite fetching; are you doing a version of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE?
Little House on the Prairie: the story of how Gregory House became interested in diagnostic medicine, when he helped cure Pa's horse of a rare instestinal disorder.
It's a prequel, of course. Featuring the voice talents of Michael J. Fox and Nathan Lane as House's best friends, a talking mouse and cat.
;D
-
The only show I wanted to watch tonight was Alias. We had to record it, because immediately after work der B had to drive up to Dover and wanted me with him.
I'm still waiting to watch the show, since he's had a line-up of shows HE'S wanted to watch and is doing so.
I'm thinking of using a bottle of Tabasco on his dinner tomorrow.
>:(
-
DR Jose - On the one hand, it's wonderful that the cjoices among actors are so strong for your show.
But there's a part of me that thinks about how sad that there are so many people who are so talented yet so right for the part that using them wouldn't be settling, and yet those talented people are not getting a job, and may just be totally without work. And will feel the pain of rejection.
Sorry to be a downer. So many of our friends and neighbors are actors, so I just felt a pang of sadness from reading your post.
-
I also recorded WILL & GRACE. It's easier for me to make DVDs rather than videotapes, and I'll have it so if the other folks can't do it or something goes wrong. You know I definitely have it for a back-up.
-
Back from the movie with a box of Krispy Kremes in tow. :-\
DR Ben, DP Ant and I had a loverly time. There were some film issues that delayed and at one time interrupted La Crawford, but all in all a good time was had. Now I'm eating the leftover stir fry from last night as I was absolutely starving after the movie. It's quite tasty.
Who's excited about the HHWers who are coming to loverly New York? I am!! Safe travels to everyone in the next couple of days...
-
Speaking of WILL & GRACE, it was average in the funny department, but there were a few good lines.
Eric McCormack and Megan Mullally, both consummate theater professionals, never dropped character once in the East Coast version. Sean Hayes and Debra Messing had a very hard time getting through their scene together without breaking up.
The show was bleeped twice in the East Coast version!
-
Back from another gorge-fest with BK at BIRDS, our new hot "In" place. We wolfed down a mountain of onion rings and tore at chicken carcasses with the wild abandon of Charles Laughton in Henry the VIII. Afterwards, we made our way through the smoke-clouded skies of LA...there's apparently a fire in the Burbank Hills or something...up the street to Counterpoint Records and Books where BK bought a dirty record with which I will let him regale you.
-
I watched the series premiere of NIGHT STALKER. There were some moments of eerieness in the show, but the story sort of lost momentum for me and at the most climactic moment became a flurry of bouncy camerawork, screams, and bad lighting so nothing really could be seen (or experienced). I wasn't totally disappointed by the show, but it has a ways to go in the next two episodes to win me over.
One neat little touch was that original Kolchak Darren McGavin was CGIed into the newsroom as Stuart Townsend (the new Kolchak) walked by him.
-
And finally, WITHOUT A TRACE completed the story began as last season's cliffhanger. Good episode, but the entire modus operandi of the show (searching for missing persons) was abandoned as the FBI agents went on a manhunt for a terrorist who had shot one of their own.
-
Tomorrow I will have ALIAS, CSI, and REUNION to watch in addition to THE OFFICE which I still haven't gotten to.
-
What a wonderful meal we had, except Pogue FORCED me to eat so much food - he MADE me do it - chicken, three side dishes, onion rings - I feel like I'm going to explode.
The LP I got has instantly gone into the pantheon of great covers. I will photograph it and share it with you shortly.
-
And speaking of THE OFFICE, NBC has ordered enough episodes to carry it to midseason, so my surmising this morning about what might possibly happen to the show must undoubtedly be wrong. Looks like it's going to run at least to January.
Still wonder where SCRUBS will land. NBC has a two hour Wednesday dead block with Martha Stewart's APPRENTICE and E-RING, and I guess it's possible they could stick SCRUBS into one of those slots along with possibly moving JOEY (which is just sinking fast on Thursdays) and then THE BOOK OF DANIEL which they've got waiting for midseason.
-
I just sent in a list of suggested movies for future Chelsea Classics. They encourage that sort of thing. Anyway, here's a smattering of the movies I suggested.
MADAME X
IMITATION OF LIFE (Lana Turner)
TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD
THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE
THE TOWERING INFERNO
EARTHQUAKE
AIRPLANE!
THE PRODUCERS
GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES
JAWS
XANADU (silly, I know...)
That's all I can remember for now. Any other suggestions would be welcome - I can email them in at any time.
-
I am listening to Susan Egan's "new"cd thanks to DR Larry.
Question:
With the exception of More and Joshua Noveck are these previously released tracks?
-
Here it is, on Joe Davis Records. Faye Richmonde, the singer, is not the babe on the cover. This classic LP (what a cover!) has such great songs as
You Ought To See Her Box
Mama's Well Has Done Gone Dry
Where Can I Find A Cherry For My Banana Split?
It Was Hard When I Kissed Her Goodbye
Meat Man Pete
and many others.
Several of the songs are by the great Andy Razaf.
-
Yes, they are all Susan's tracks from albums that I produced. We let her sing the two new songs using the orchestral backing tracks used for Tammy Minoff and Jennifer Simard.
-
Must be heading toward the bedroom now. Have a lot of TV and DVDs to watch tomorrow so I need to rest my eyes a bit to be able to focus them tomorrow.
Good night, all.
-
"Meat Man Pete?"
-
That is a great cover. I'm jealous.
Me, I just got back from my second night in a row at City Center's FALL FOR DANCE series. Dance troupes from all over the globe perform in it. It's a really good way to see dance because the things you don't like don't last that long and its on to the next... It's going on until Sunday. None of the performances were bad, some were incredible.
I did the program which was mentioned in the NY TIMES today. Something like, "This dance is about six soldiers walking through the gates of Heaven ACCORDING TO THE PROGRAM." (emphasis is mine)
-
Am finally catching up on Tuesday's AMAZING RACE. I am really enjoying the teams of families! Particularly the two teams that have the small children...those kids are smart! And what an education this game will be for them, seeing all parts of North and South America.
And the Paola family cracks me up...they are the Italian family from Brooklyn who bicker constantly...well, the mom and sons do, the dad seems to stay out of it...I know families just like them! LOL!
-
DR George I did tape it. But just be warned that even though I taped it on NBC, it will have the Canadian commercials. Not that you will be watching the commercials. But just so you know.
Thanks! Let me know if you want the West Coast version!
-
I thought that "Will and Grace" was pretty funny, but not hysterically funny. Of course, I haven't watched it in a couple of years. I thought I noticed an edit(!) in the brodcast, but I didn't hear any actual bleep.
-

Here is an interesting thing: Last week the Feds announced they are launching a major investigation into gas price gouging. This week gas prices have dropped by twenty cents. Coincidence? Not.
-
...except Pogue FORCED me to eat so much food - he MADE me do it ...
Next on the menu: BK fois gras!
-
Glad to hear that the earthquake - or should I say fire - is not near either Mr BK's house nor the House Of Pogue.
I am dying, Egypt, dying over that LP cover.....and the song titles are priceless. Sophisticated is NOT the word.
-
Racy Album Cover Page Eight Dance! :o
-
That silly Rusty Warren!
-
LOL!
-
I just sat through a four-hour budget meeting.
-
Jrand, there is a copy of For Men Only up on eBay.
-
I'm caught up, I'm caught up!!! Now it's time for bed.
-
It's on-line bill payin' time! I have my paycheck deposited automatically, so I don't have to go to the bank. I pay almost all of my bills on-line. That's what I'm doing right now. Just had to share. :)
