TOD;  when I have 2 days of work and one day to do it in  I do not take time to see friends or cruise the interwebs etc etc -  yesterday for instance i arrived at work at 6:45 AM and left at  7:30 PM - I did not eat during that time - indeed I had food with me that I could have eaten at my desk except I find it physically impossible to eat  when I am that stressed - I need to keep my head down and get done what I need to get done - there would be no point in my trying to meet someone for lunch in the middle of that as I would be distracted and a lousy lunch partner

I would be doing my friends no favors by seeing them in that state

That being said,  I am truly sorry I was unable to get in to see you this weekend -  I live  about 50 miles from NYC so it is a hour drive each way and I already had long standing  commitments at Church for this weekend

I am hopeful that you will be back soon and my schedule will permit me to come and see you

In other news, the OREGONIAN printed a(n) hilarious retraction of sorts this morning about their recently deceased (ultra conservative) editorial page editor.  It seems he wasn't found dead in his car.  He was found dead in the apartment of the young woman he had been paying for "sexual acts".

Good morning, all! I slept really late and I know I was having another doozy of a dream but I've completely forgotten it.

I'm still in my neck brace - I really hate them - but I still can't turn my head to the left, although the pain is going away, I've met my huge deadline with the booklet notes, and I need a month at the Mayo Clinic to recuperate and readjust. The only major tsuris in my life now is this whole office evacuation/new office mess, so keep them vibes coming!

BK, I am really sorry that I missed you. I do love you and, if the fire hadn't happened and completely freaked me out, I'd have been at Joe Allen's cheering you on. I'm happy to hear that the singer did well. I agree with you about Don't Tell Mama as a venue/

In the late 1980s, before one of the Men's Chorus December concerts, I was up for about two days doing my usual late-minute scoring and copying jobs when I had to go off to a rehearsal.  Since the heat in my apartment was drying everyting inside my head up far too much, I kept a large pot of water simmering on the stove. So, around 6:30, on a Monday night in the middle of December, I closed up the apartment and went to the subway, where I had an attack of "did I leave the stove on?" I went back to the apartment, found that I had turned the stove off. I then turned the stove on and left for several hours. I got back around 11:00 to find a red-hot pan sitting on my stove that luckily did not cause a fire. It sure freaked me out, and I moved about thw apartment very carefully until Wednesday's orchestra rehearsal. Then, I slept for a day.

I'll either die in a fire or under a vehicle from jaywalking.

I just try to focus on the task at hand.  If I am at the theatre, I cannot do anything about what is happening at the store - and vice versa.

Two things I have learned......your life is like a chest of drawers.....if ALL of the drawers are open at once, it is chaos.  Only open the drawer you need at the moment.....and don't open the sock drawer if you are looking for underwear.  No more than ONE drawer should be open at any given time.

AND - we all have baggage.  You cannot pick up one more thing unless you set something down....if you are carrying baggage for someone else, put it down.  Only carry what belongs to you.

I'm here at the airport now.  I was originally going to leave the hotel at nine-thirty, but folks told me it could take an hour to ninety minutes, so i got nervous and left at nine instead.  The ride to the airport, even with a bit of traffic on 34th Street, took thirty-three minutes.  Then I hunkered down for an hour-long journey through security.  Since when one purchases extra legroom you get to use a special faster line, I asked where it was.  I was told it wasn't because there WAS no line at all.  And there wasn't.  It took me all of seven minutes to get through security (and no scanner this time).  So, I've got a nice two-hour wait now, but I'm happy to be here safe and sound and keep sending excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure, and on-time flight and that the very gray weather goes away or doesn't get worse before I leave.

I need to run down to Toyland, stop next door and see my accountant, and then head back uptown.  I haven't figured out why my taxes aren't ready yet.

Before I go, I'm having a bit of Chobani yogurt, which has replaced Dannon as my fave yogurt. Today's flavor: black cherry. I'm fond of the peach and the pomegranate as well.

Good morning. Today I have something on my cell phone calendar that I have no clue about. I have "exec meeting" at 3:30 -- I have checked with them because the time, day, and location are not the usual thing. I checked with the other board that I am on, and they are not meeting today either. SO I guess I will have to wait until 3:45 to see who calls to ask why I am late.

My late, wonderful and very bright grandmother once told me:  "Nothing on this earth is worth worrying over if it's going to affect your health."

I've lived by that guidance.

Yes, I will, on occasion, awaken in the middle of the night and have a mild panic attack about things I haven't done and should have done.  I do my best to calm myself, set my mind on other things and then go back to bed.  It always works out.

I am now caught up with season 2 of THE WALKING DEAD. I was unable to watch the first 8 episodes but did read the recaps on-line, which was fine. ON DEMAND had episodes 9 through 12, which I watched last night and I believe the final episode of season 2 airs this Sunday.

Much of this season reminded me of the movie PANIC IN YEAR ZERO, but with flesh eating zombies*

And the two male leads do tend to overact a bit this season, which I found a bit annoying. Of course it looks like most of the cast**is going to get eaten in the final episode, so that annoyance may be only temporary.

* I have noticed that the zombies are always played by 20-something extras....surely, there must be child zombies and elderly zombies, also.

** in this show being a main character is no guarantee that you won't be unexpectantly killed off in any given episode.

A friend told me about it and made me do it once, and I found it worked for me.  I make a list of all the things I'm worried about and want to worry about.  I don't actually do any worrying-- I just add the item to the list.  I then set aside some time  (30 minutes or an hour depending on how many things there are), and I worry about them.  I have the copmplete luxury to totally worry for that time.  When the Bell rings, and the time is up, I put the list aside and quit worrying.  It sounds silly, but it works.  And it frees me up the rest of the time to not worry (especially about all those needless things that you find you relly don't have to worry about anyway).  I rarely have to do this anymore because there aren't that many things that actually make it to the list these days.

I love the quote from Into the Woods where Cinderella's Prince says to Jack's Mother in response to Jack's Mother being concerned that Jack might be dead:  "Worrying will do you no good. If he's safe, then he's safe. If he's been crushed, well, then, there's nothing any of us can do about that, now is there?"

The two quotes (mantras) that I tend to repeat are:  "Worrying will do you no good" and "It'll be what it'll be."

I am super excited. I just read that this tour of female YA writers (Smart Chicks kick it) is coming right near me in September:

http://www.smartchickskickit.com/schedule.html

Hopefully they will add a few more of the authors to the event that is here here (since I love 3 of them who are not listed for Montreal).

Also, I am praying that my niece will not schedule her birthday party for that time (it is on a saturday at 2pm and her birthday is on the Monday). Luckily my sister also likes at least one of those authors. And she sounded like she would be agreeable to doing the party on the Sunday (since she does have 6 months notice).

This is the bookstore i always go to. Fingers crossed.

I'm always terrified of delays getting to airports (I've had some bad ones as well) so I always leave ridiculously early and end up having hours to kill waiting at the airport.

I'm amazed that the daffodils and bluebells are up, and the trees are either budding or already in bloom.

As for allowing time to get to the airport-
I once allowed 2 hours to get to JFK. There was construction, there was rain, there was traffic, and I missed my flight.
Talk about stress.
I'd rather get there 2 hours early and r-e-l-a-x.

The good thing about the airport here is that from where i live there can never really be any traffic getting there.  The only thing is they keep doing so many renovations that getting into the airport pick-up/drop off is different almost every time!

TOD:

I agree with all this "free" advice!  :D

We were shocked to find 4 inches of snow.  We canceled Sherlock's appointment.  I was able to walk down our road & get a ride to my book discussion meeting.  I loved the book as did everyone else in the group & it was a fun meeting.   Having read all of Ivan Doig's books I suggested everyone read HOUSE OF SKY next.

Does the neck brace make it easier on your neck?  I have opted not to wear them when I should have.  I'm glad the pain is easing up.  Do you take the brace off at all.  I wouldn't want your neck to get too stiff from lack of movement & create a new problem.

*gasp*

Just returned from my first outside walk of 2012.  It's almost 80o outside and our neighborhood is hilly.  15 minutes outside is a lot harder than 30 in the basement!

Try doing a second, easier walk in the basement for about 15 minutes.  The combination of flat & hills is good for you.

Just arrived! Fantastic.

Mine has been shipped, but I haven't received it yet...the estimated date of arrival is March 21. :( That's what I get for specifying free shipping.

What DID arrive today was an audio-DVD by BK's very own close and personal friend, Grant Geissman:  The Grant Geissman Quintet: There And Back Again (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002WZSBM/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details)!

AND this morning, I finally got a DVD/CD player installed on my work computer!!  I can listen/watch the audio-DVD today, right after I finish the CD that I got yesterday:  Melissa Errico's Legrand Affair (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005JRM700/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details).  It's very lush and lovely. :)

Got mine today

Is it

Connecticut Public Radio (http://www.cpbn.org/)?

If so, you could probably stream it at some point after the broadcast. I don't get any CT stations on my radio live.

Here is a list of CT stations which stream live

It's funny how all of the wonderful things that have happened these past couple of weeks have changed how I feel.

Just returned from my first outside walk of 2012.  It's almost 80o outside and our neighborhood is hilly.  15 minutes outside is a lot harder than 30 in the basement!

80 degrees?  Are you crazy?  It snowed here again this morning.

TOD:.   When I get really busy at work and things get totally stressful I tend to shut down and not do anything outside of the office.  I do have a bad habit of worrying about a big project and letting the little things pile up until I'm crazed and can't get anything done.  The only way I can get back into the swing is to take the time to do all the little things that are bugging me and just get them done, then when everything is cleared away I tackle the big project. While I'm getting things back on track I cancel all my plans and am either working or home relaxing.  Without all the distractions I get it done much more quickly.  That being said, if someone were to come to Sioux City to visit, I'd make time for lunch or dinner, if possible. There have been times when people have come to town and I just couldn't take the time to get together.  It happens.

CARRY ON NURSE (http://www.carryon.org.uk/nurse.html)

Quote
Synopsis

The men on the surgical ward at Haven Hospital create their own brand of havoc when, after teasing the nurses all day, they decide to help a fellow patient by performing a midnight operation on him themselves.

Carry On Nurse takes the comedic target of hospital life with its strict nurses, snobbish doctors and bullied patients and takes in to a new level of comedy by focusing more on the lives of the patients and nurses. Its phenomenal success in the UK and the US made a third Carry On inevitable.

Among the patients are Bernie Bishop (Kenneth Connor), a boxer with a broken fist, Mr Hinton (Charles Hawtrey), who conducts symphonies from his radio headphones. Percy Hickson (Bill Owen), whose broken leg gets hoisted on pulleys and whose wife (Irene Handl) gets upset filling in forms. Jack Bell (Leslie Phillips) is stopped from a romantic weekend by a bunion on his foot and it is to aid him that his fellows volunteer to operate, led by Oliver Reckitt (Kenneth Williams). Oliver is a bookish student who reads in a medical book how the operation should be done. He is also the only one who will stand up to the formidable matron (Hattie Jacques) who terrifies all around her including her nurses. Nurse Dawson (Joan Sims) particularly seems unable to do anything right when Matron is around but Nurse Denton (Shirley Eaton), who provides the romantic interest along with Terence Longden, tries to help the disaster-prone trainee as much as she can. They also have to cope with the Colonel (Wilfred Hyde-White), a private patient in a side ward, who tears them ragged with his buzzer and his constant gambling requests.

They do, however, get their own back on him in the last scene of the film when they get him to lie face down in order to have his temperature taken. When Matron comes in and finds him in this position he says, "Surely you've seen a temperature taken like this before?" To which she replies, in what must be one of the funniest moments of any of the carry ons, "Yes, Colonel, but never with a daffodil!" This joke is then followed up in Carry On Doctor, when a nurse holds up a flower to Frankie Howerd and he says "Oh no you don't, I saw that film," to which the nurse replies that she just wanted him to smell it.

I scored a biggie on eBay - I found a signed copy of Sondheim and Company - I realized somehow the book had gone missing and I wanted it.  The seller only showed a portion of the signature - just "without whom" and "Steve."  The "without whom" is what piqued my interest, so I bought it.  Well, the names above "without whom" are "To Ruth and Flossie" - Ruth being producer and Hal Prince associate Ruth Mitchell (who worked on most of the Prince/Sondheim shows) and Flossie is her partner and costume designer Florence Klotz - so quite the association copy and quite worth about ten times what I paid for it.
