Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a certain Lithuanian undercurrent to them, and now it is time for you to post until the Lithuanian cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SEDULOUS!
-
Welcome fifteen GUESTS.
-
Will we never get to page two?
-
And a very happy haineshisway.com birthday to occasional visitor Mr. Arnold M. Brockman!
-
Topic of the Day: No. :-\
-
I don't suppose that posting on HHW counts. ::)
;)
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR Arnold M. Brockman!!
-
I have a request...does anyone have an at least half-way decent copy of "Fing of Fire" with David Janssen? It's never been released on video or DVD, but if anyone taped it off of TV (TCM broadcast it at one point), a co-worker would greatly appreciate it. I thought I'd at least ask. :)
-
Good night, der Brucer...and guests!

Happy Birthday to Mr Brockman Snr.

"Put That Fing On My Ringer"
der Brucer
-
I've written to Larry Moore.
-
I saw "Play Misty For Me" at a Drive-In theatre. Many people drove out when the Robert Flack song started as it seemed like the end of the movie.
-
I recently compiled a Cd of the versions of "Misty" I have. (Not many).
It is one of my favourite songs of all time.
-
I've just finished compiling a cd of the various versions I have of Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Corcovado"(Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars), "Meditation" and "The Girl From Ipanema".
It must be a JMK influence.
-
Good morning DR SweetShow
-
I wrote a seduous fan letter to Mr. Stephen Sondheim in the early 80's with a few specific questions about songs and shows, which he kindly answered promptly, efficiently, and with great style. :)
In the mid-80's, I wrote letters to Ned Rorem and Lukas Foss, both of which were answered most beguilingly.
I also wrote a letter to Mrs. Coretta Scott King when I was in grade school; sadly it was never answered.
-
Good evening, dear DR Tomovoz...
-
I'm afraid I shall be E&T once again today...more unpacking awaits in northern New Jersey.
-
However, I intend to return home by late afternoon, as tonight's traffic should be horrid - end of a holiday weekend and all.
-
It's no holiday for us retired folk in OZ.
-
I wonder what has happend to the E & T Miss Karen and Son.
-
The "Fing Cycle" at Bayreuth. Not to be missed. Including the fire.
-
It's no holiday for us retired folk in OZ.
It's a Jolly Holiday with Mary...
-
RE: E&T...
Just busy, I think.
Don't take it personally! :)
-
I'm sure Anna Russell would have enjoyed it.
-
Sweet dreams, DR Tomovoz!
-
Have a great day. Dinner Time here.
-
Many many moons ago I wrote a short note to Katherine Hepburn, I received back a short note that just said "thank you" but it was signed. Unfortunately it disappeared one day
-
And the word of the day is: SEDULOUS!
Monica's SEDULOUS attempts to raise Bill's spirits (among other things) helped him feel less like a USED SOUL.
-
And with that, our page two dance must involve the famous dancing dildoes! :o

Fing of Fire?
Didn't Soupy Sales have a regular on his show named Fing?
-
I wonder what has happend to the E & T Miss Karen and Son.
Son is obviously busy with meetings with our esteemed BK.
-
TOD: Can't say I have.

((((((((((((DANISE))))))))))
I have been catching up . I am glad your family found you again

It isn't just der Brucer that can find things on the net!
Over at Michael Ruhlman's blog (http://blog.ruhlman.com/), there's a story about an eleven-year-old Alabama boy killing a 9 foot 4, 1051 pound wild hog with a pistol.
The boy says he was inspired to kill and butcher the pig himself after reading a book about how to make sausage and "pork belly confit, " by noted culinary author Michael Ruhlman. "After I read Charcuterie" the boy said "I was so hungry for some rillettes or head cheese, I would have killed that hog with my teeth."
The boy's father says he's proud of his son for tracking and killing what may prove to be the largest wild pig on record, but appears to be a bit embarrassed by his son's infatuation with the book, Charcuterie, and charcuterie in general. "I hate that French [expletive], what they ever do for us? Is that Ruhlman guy French, or what? I'm sure I don't know. All I do know is I don't like it."
The boy hopes to be able to overcome his father's resistance to turning parts of the hog into pate de campagne by offering the testicles to Tony Bourdain. "My Dad loves Bourdain. Says he reminds him of The Duke, but skinnier. I figure if we send him the n**s, maybe he'll email dad or call him or something."
Don't take the anti-French bit too seriously, DR Francois. Daddy doesn't know you like we do.
-
I'd better get ready for work.

And the word of the day is: SEDULOUS!
Amy or David?

Good grief! Would someone tell the cats that today is a holiday?

Obviously, watching my gardening show!

Whew! I'm back from Alabama and back from Kingston, GA and have a lot of catching up to do!
-
Good morning, all! My computer has begun crashing regularly and I fear it may mean that its end is nigh. I hope it will hang on till September which is when I planned on purchasing a new one.
I just read Gretchen Wyler's obit. I first saw her on the Garry Moore show, performing "Spanish Rose"; she was the Rosie in the National Tour of BYE BYE BIRDIE. I met her briefly around 1982, and she was quite lovely and charming. I wish that I knew then about all of her animal rights work, because it would have been interesting to discuss something she was active in than a career that was pretty much in her past. I remember thinking at the time how tough she looked, but she was funny and kind.
Today I have no plans, which is a nice situation. I will putter about, watch a Netflix DVD or 2, read more of the Leo Lerman book (I'm taking the Alison Weir HENRY VIII book to jury duty) and do little else.
TOD:
I wrote two fan letters in my life and got replies to both. In the hurlyburly of time both have vanished. One was to Lotte Lenya in 1972. Her reply was very sweet and very badly typed with spellings and type-overs. I remember her postscript after her signature: It's a good thing I went on the stage. I would have starved to death as a secretary.
My second was to Benjamin Britten, who sent a kind reply saying that he was sorry to be so tardy in responding but he'd been through heart surgery. The note, in my memory, was as frail as the surgery left him, and I believe he was dead about a year after receiving the reply.
-
I've written to Larry Moore.
That's gonna be worth a few pennies!
I just realized I have a ton of letters from Sondheim somewhere in this dump and I haven't seen them in years. I hope they're still here.
-
Memorial Day greetings! This is an unusual MD holiday for us, because DH Richard is not yet able, due to his shoulder surgery, to participate with the American Legion Honor Guard in the commemorations. He's usually busy with cemetery ceremonies and the parade from early morning to late afternoon.
I'm waiting for a call from a long-time friend who's on her last driving day between Florida and her home in Michigan. She'll call when she gets close to Middletown and I'll meet her for a visit, probably at Bob Evans. Then, it's grocery shopping for me for an indoor picnic with DH Richard, DS Rob, and Rob's DG (dear girlfriend).
-
Obviously, watching my gardening show!
DR Edi - I caught about the last 10 minutes, including the important part: the credits with your name in them!
-
Good morning, all! My computer has begun crashing regularly and I fear it may mean that its end is nigh. I hope it will hang on till September which is when I planned on purchasing a new one.
DR Elmore, since we have identical computers, I hope yours holds on for a while longer! I recently learned that clearing the history and emtpying the trash regularly and shortening the names of your bookmarks increases the responsiveness. Have you tried those things?
...(I'm taking the Alison Weir HENRY VIII book to jury duty)... ...
Which Alison Weir Henry VIII book are you reading? AW has her own book group here on HHW, between you, me, and DR MattH. Anyone else?
-
Which Alison Weir Henry VIII book are you reading? AW has her own book group here on HHW, between you, me, and DR MattH. Anyone else?
HENRY VIII AND HIS COURT, whatever it's called. I've already finished her 4 books on the Children and Wives of Henry VIII, Elizabeth I and the Princes in the Tower.
According to this photo, Gretchen was on Broadway as a replacement for Chita Rivera.
-
PLAY MITZI FOR ME - Clint Eastwood's kinky take on a man obsessed with playing Joshua Logan while having his wife dress up as Nellie Forbush
(I guess this is a rerun of that pun :) )
-
I used to see Gretchen Wyler on Jack Paar or the other night time shows and wonder what in the world she did. I didn't see her in the movies or on a series, didn't have any of her records....it was a mystery.
-
I used to write a LOT of fan letters when I was little....and usually got a postcard with a photo and a printed autograph. Stamps were only 5 cents.
I got really nice response most recently from the prolific Mr Sondheim, Miss Gale Storm, and Miss Carroll Baker.
I got a letter and photo from Frances Farmer back in 1963.
I guess the two handwritten cards I received from Miss Allison Hayes back in 1969-70 are my two most important and prized.
-
Seeing Jessica Walter in PLAY MISTY FOR ME put me against for many years....she was just too good at being CRAZY. In fact, Glenn Close in that rabbit movie seemed tamed compared to her.
And we did see Clint in his undies. 8)
-
I am worried....although my computer is only half a year old ... since everyone I talked to who got a new computer with VISTA has had problems with drivers....
Of course if you have an APPLE computer, that is NOT a worry.
-
Wow! I just added up all the email offers I got today, and I can get over $100 million dollars from people who just need my bank accounts numbers to make some transfers.
Isn't that great?
-
We here at HHW will be happy to know that even with all of the unrest in the world....and the earth shattering news that Rosie has left THE VIEW...Justin Timberlake has found TRUE LOVE with Jessica Biel, who says that she loses many roles because producers see her as just "too sexy."
-
Will we never get to page two?
It's here now!
-
Good morning!
Another pretty morning which will lead to a hellish hot afternoon. Supposed to be 90 today. Boo! That's too hot for May!
-
Happy Memorial Day to everyone!
So, who has to work?
-
Page Three Minerva McGonagall Dance!!!
-
Gretchen Wyler was a great favorite on the straw hat circuit here in the 1960s. She sold out a week of shows two years in a row: first doing CALL ME MADAM and then the next year in SWEET CHARITY.
She was a stupendous Charity Hope Valentine! She could sing and dance and clown and was the best one I think I've ever seen in the role.
-
Since there's no mail delivery today (and hence no chance of THE CLOSER- Season 2 being delivered), I'm going to watch films with a lengthy running time today.
This afternoon I plan to take THE SONG OF BERNADETTE off the to-watch shelf and finally watch it. It's been decades since I've seen it all the way through, so this should be a treat.
I'm still mulling over what tonight's choice will be. It may be THE GODFATHER; it may be MARIE ANTOINETTE (Norma Shearer version). I may do SEVEN SAMAURI if I'm in the mood for a foreign film.
-
I'm all alone in the place! Wow!
-
Folks really are on holiday!
-
No one is alone
-
You're never alone on HHW
-
DR MATTH - it had been decades since I saw the Shearer ANTOINETTE until I watched it a few weeks ago....it is an amazing film. And Norma does a very fine job...as does Tyrone...and EVERYONE. Beautiful and of course too bad it wasn't filmed in Technicolor since it was designed for that process.
-
Why do people - mostly teen agers - walk on the street instead of the sidewalk?
-
Why do people - mostly teen agers - walk on the street instead of the sidewalk?
Speculations are endless:
Suicidal tendencies?
Too many old coots hobbling on the sidewalks?

Well, that's what I'll watch tonight, then! Really have wanted to put it on for weeks, but that 3 hour running time kept stopping me.
Nothing on tonight to make that a problem.
-
I'm probably not going to have lunch out today with best friend John. He's with family (all off for the holiday), but he said if they've tired of one another by today, they may go their separate ways and then we would have lunch.
I'm not counting on that happening, however, so I have lunch food in readiness.
-
That makes sense DR ELMORE.....I have almost taken a couple of them out with my PT Cruiser.
It is one of those films that went by very quickly for me DR MATTH....so much to cover....
-
Yes, MARIE ANTOINETTE would have been a dazzling Technicolor film. So would PRINCE OF FOXES. Still can't believe they denied color for that wonderful Power epic.
-
DR MattH, I agree with you in many respects about this past week's STUDIO 60. Totally bizarre not to have matthew perry, bradley whitford, or amanda peet. Do you know why they were not on? They are the 3 leads of the show. Really odd not to have any of them on.
-
Tonight there is a 2 hour ON THE LOT. I'll be curious to see how it is done. Will they show each short movie in its entirety and then let people vote? Will it be reality tv style like they did the last episodes where we only get to see bits and pieces (and then everything would be available online)? Apparently those in canada can vote!
-
DR JENNIFER - my TV paper says "Short films of the 18 finalists are shown." So who knows?
-
I guess I am confused.....
I have been looking at some of the photos from the new COMPANY revival, and also I have the new SWEENEY TODD....and I know the actors play instruments....BUT my question is:
Do they provide the only musical accompaniment?
-
Good Morning!

Yes. That's the conceit/point/trick/gimmick/breakthrough/money-saving-measure/call-it-what-you-may.

I have no idea what executive decision was made to keep the three of them off that episode.
There are supposed to be five remaining episodes of the show that haven't aired, but last week's episode finished last in the time slot (opposite reruns on the other networks), so who knows whether NBC will allow it to finish its run.
-
Yes. That's the conceit/point/trick/gimmick/breakthrough/money-saving-measure/call-it-what-you-may.
And, imho, it works better aurally with Company rather than Sweeney Todd. However, I did like Anthony and Johanna playing cellos side by side.
-
As an adult, I don't think I've written anything like what would be regarded as a fan letter. As a kid, I wrote many.
I have written e-mails to authors like William Mann and Richard Barrios expressing appreciation for their most welcome scholarship in some of their nonfiction works. But I don't think of those as fan letters.
-
Speaking of nonfiction, I'm heading down now to continue reading my Henry VIII book. Then, on the lunch preparation.
WBBL.

The movies on tonight's episode are only one minute long. Each complete one-minute movie will be shown.
And, if I recall correctly, there will be another "chunk" of eliminations. -Which will make it easier for the producers to fit more films, longer films in the upcoming episodes.
ADDENDUM: Well... Now that I think of it, I remember that the scripts are only a page long. But now I'm not sure if the finished movie is supposed to be a minute. However, they only get one hour to film it, so... In any case... The movies tonight will be short.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
Like others here on HHW, I've written to Stephen Sondheim. The first time was a true fan letter. The subsequent ones were more like "I have a question about..." letters. I always got a response. -I just don't know where those responses are right now. :-\
I also wrote combination fan/I woul like your advice letters to Paul Gemignani, Jeanine Levenson (now Tesori), John McDaniel and a few other conductors and pit pianists back in the early to mid-90s. I believe I got responses from all of them eventually. -And I've actually worked with most of them by now too.

Boy Bags Wild Hog Bigger Than 'Hogzilla')
May 25 04:21 PM US/Eastern
By KATE BRUMBACK
Associated Press Writer
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Hogzilla is being made into a horror movie. But the sequel may be even bigger: Meet Monster Pig. An 11-year-old Alabama boy used a pistol to kill a wild hog his father says weighed a staggering 1,051 pounds and measured 9-feet-4 from the tip of its snout to the base of its tail. Think hams as big as car tires.
If the claims are accurate, Jamison Stone's trophy boar would be bigger than Hogzilla, the famed wild hog that grew to seemingly mythical proportions after being killed in south Georgia in 2004.
…
Jamison, meanwhile, has been offered a small part in "The Legend of Hogzilla," a small-time horror flick based on the tale of the Georgia boar. The movie is holding casting calls with plans to begin filming in Georgia.
Maybe Edisaurus can get a job "cutting the hog".

Did the actors have to join the Musicians Local?
-
Did anyone see this JAWS 3 movie in 3-D?
-
TOD:
Well, I wrote a fan letter to the WSMA and one to DR CP's friend Denny "Scott" Miller. Both repsonded. I have also written to and have, at times, corresponded with several mystery writers.
I have several friends who write many fan letters to celebrities, mostly actors on Broadway; and judging from the gracious responses they receive, I should write to more of my favorites. I doubt I would ever write to any of the Brad Pitts or Tom Cruises of the world, but I may start sending some letters of appreciation to entertainers that mean a great deal to me personally.
-
Did anyone see this JAWS 3 movie in 3-D?
Actually, I believe I did. It didn't help.
-
Did the actors have to join the Musicians Local?
Yes. And when they joined, they're "directory listing" - name, address, etc.- was listed in the monthly newsletter. -Consequently, I now have Ms. LuPone's contact info. ;)
-
DR TCB - Would you like to write a letter to Patti?
;D

KILLER COLA (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,275736,00.html)
A common preservative found in drinks such as Coca-Cola, Sprite, Dr. Pepper, Fanta and Diet Pepsi and may cause serious cell damage, according to a report in Britain's (http://www.independent.co.uk/template/ver/gfx//new_indy_logo3.gif) (http://news.independent.co.uk/health/article2586652.ece)
Sodium benzoate has the ability to switch off vital parts of a person's DNA, according to research from a British university.
The problem is usually associated with aging and alcohol abuse, but new findings show that drinking soda with the preservative can eventually lead to cirrhosis of the liver and degenerative diseases such as Parkinson's.
Sodium benzoate, which derives from benzoic acid, has been used for years by the carbonated drinks industry to prevent mold from developing in soft drinks. The ingredient has been the subject of concern on cancer, because when mixed with Vitamin C, it turns into a carcinogenic substance called benzene, the Independent reported.
The chemistry seems complex and all colas do not use the identical preservatives.

DR JRand56, I saw JAWS 3-D in the theater but I don't remember if it was in 3-D or not...in fact I think I have blocked out the whole experience.

I also saw AMITYVILLE III in 3-D. It didn't help that movie either.
-
Well it's not so hot on television for sure.
-
Back in the early 90s I wrote many fan letters to my favorite B movie stars and vintage TV performers, along with sending photos for them to autograph.
Some of those who not only signed the photos but sent back very nice letters with the photo(s):
Penny Singleton
Tito Guizar
Matt Battaglia
Peggy Webber
Yvonne Lime
Seamon Glass
Cal Bartlett
Noreen Corcoran
Kerwin Mathews
Josephine Hutchinson
Ann Savage
Deke Anderson
Rhodes Reason
Gregg Palmer
John Bromfield
Luana Anders
Brett Halsey,
Michi Kobi
Ed Kemmer
Of those I have only met Penny Singleton, Peggy Webber, and Rhodes Reason in person, and it was several years later and unrelated to the fan letters.

The only fan letter I've ever written was to Van Dyke Parks. He wrote back, a very sweet response with a drawing at the bottom.
Unfortunately, this letter was in my briefcase which was stolen during one of my car break-ins while working in LA.
After we both had email, we corresponded and would also mail each other things from time to time. One time he was doing a live concert for the recording of the "Moonlighting" live album and invited us to come to LA for the concert. I was in the midst of trying to finish a film for a festival deadline and couldn't go, but sent a nice bunch of garden flowers. (He's a gardener, among his many talents.) He somehow found my phone number, which is unlisted, and called me the next morning to thank me.
We've talked over the years about our projects, and he has offered to help with music a few times, including on THE INTERNATIONALE. When I started working on THE ADVENTURES OF OCIEE NASH, I knew he would be the perfect choice for composer and he agreed to do it, even though I don't think he made much, if anything, from doing this.
It was the highlight of my editing career to be able to work so closely with him on the score at his house, and I learned so much from him.
He and his wonderful wife came to our screening in LA in April and invited us over the next day for Bloody Marys, and a delightful time was had by all.
I will always be his #1 fan.
-
Lovely story, DR EDISAURUS.
-
Wow! Bess Armstrong is really bad....even standout bad....in this bad movie. Although Lea Thompson is close.
-
Whew! My friend called about 45 minutes earlier than I'd expected, so I had to fly out of here. After my breakfast visit with her, I went grocery shopping and am now home for the day to cook and putter and visit here on HHW.
-
Back from a nice get-together with Jon Burlingame. Now I shall do stuff.
-
A native or two at another chat board seem to be very angry about the cancellation of the Xanadu perf yesterday. I suppose I would have been angry, too, had I come from out of town.
-
STANDOUT BAD - that should be the title of a book, i think.
-
I've gotten some of those Sondheim responses, too, with witty (yet reasonable) reasons he couldn't come to presentations of my work. :)
Not a response to a fan letter specifically, but my fave "celeb" response of all time was from Joe Masteroff (bookwriter of She Loves Me and Cabaret), who took the time to write for me a clear analysis of where something I had written had gone right and gone wrong.
-
Why was Xanadu canceled?
-
Looking at the Broadwayworld message board....I don't think I would want to see a show where an actor dropped a prop, picked it up, looked out and "the audience went wild" - is Broadway turning into High School Play territory?
I guess I want to see shows with an audience not a bunch of "fans" or "fanatics" who see a show dozens of times and imagine themselves part of the experience....and not part of the audience...which I definitely am...on Broadway.
Don't you think there are times, Jack, when you have to acknowledge a mistake to the audience, so that you don't loose them altogether?
-
Don't you think there are times, Jack, when you have to acknowledge a mistake to the audience, so that you don't loose them altogether?
Wasn't the mistake as much as the audience response I was talking about. :D
-
LOL....I deleted my mean spirited post, DR TCB....you are correct.
But I still don't understand people who see a show dozens of times and disrupt performances with their "in" responses to what's going on onstage.
-
Never mind. I looked around the internet and found it.

Hello HHW!
I'm back home after a couple weeks away and will attempt to catch up on the posts.
I again wish to thank all of you who sent me birthday wishes, and to BK Himself who treated me to a lovely lunch.
-
:)
-
As for being back home, well, there's NO END of stuff to catch up on, so no lazing around for this kid.
And it's back to reality where my car is concerned. My usually much-appreciated Volvo is indeed a comedown after having use of a friend's Porsche while in LA. What a GREAT car!!
(And she'll have fun, fun, fun until Daddy takes the Porsche away...)

Sign of summer: I've just assembled my first batch of baked beans for the season. You start with a 28-oz can of Campbell's Pork & Beans (drain off a little of the liquid) and add 2 Tbsp. brown sugar, 1/4 C. molasses, 1/4 C. catsup, 1 tsp. yellow mustard, 1 tsp. hot dog relish (mustard & pickle relish mixed), and some chopped onion if desired. Top with bacon, if desired, and bake at 375o for an hour and 15 minutes. The house will smell so good!
Of course, I also had to buy a loaf of dark pumpernickel bread, because there's nothing like a cold baked bean sandwich on pumpernickel. That said, I doubled the baked bean recipe, which can be done quite successfully.

TOD:
I can't recall writing any fan letters.
-
Welcome back, DR Jeanne. We've missed you!
-
LOL....I deleted my mean spirited post, DR TCB....you are correct.
But I still don't understand people who see a show dozens of times and disrupt performances with their "in" responses to what's going on onstage.
I would also have to hazard a guess that the poster's response - and the description of said response - was most likely a bit inflated. For dramatic effect... affect? ;)
-
Welcome home, DR Jeanne!
-
Page five? Most unseemly.
-
I have a request...does anyone have an at least half-way decent copy of "Fing of Fire" with David Janssen? It's never been released on video or DVD, but if anyone taped it off of TV (TCM broadcast it at one point), a co-worker would greatly appreciate it. I thought I'd at least ask. :)
"Put That Fing On My Ringer"
der Brucer
D'oh! :-[ "Ring of Fire."
;)
-
We have chatted, thank you.
I'm jealous! :D
-
Wow! I just added up all the email offers I got today, and I can get over $100 million dollars from people who just need my bank accounts numbers to make some transfers.
Isn't that great?
So, make up some numbers and see what happens next!
-
Happy Memorial Day to everyone!
So, who has to work?
I'm back already.
-
Off to my sister's to help with the ... whatever it is that she needs me to help her with. ::)
I also got an e-mail from the stage manager of "Shrew" just YESTERDAY saying that rehearsal tonight is at 6:00 pm instead of 7:30, which is on the calendar. :P How rude! >:(
-
I will single-handedly take us to page six, and the errant and truant can sit on their complacent butt cheeks.
-
Will we never get to page six?
-
Wherefore art thou, page six?
-
To page six or not to page six, that is the question.
-
I'm really angry that I missed Jrand's mean-spirited post. I think it's evil and unfeeling of him to have deleted it.
And I'm not even in a crabby mood today.
:)
-
No one is alone
A good loan is more like a ten, or a twenty. A one is too easy to blow off.
-
Yesterday's Xanadu perf was cancelled, they said, for technical difficulties.
-
...Consequently, I now have Ms. LuPone's contact info. ;)
I didn't even know she was nearsighted!
-
Good Afternoon!
Well, so far, so good.. I guess. Alas, no progress with the boxes today, but... It is a holiday, so... ;)
-
Afternoon knosh: A whole wheat bagel (H&H), and a chunk of Irish Cheddar. Good stuff!
-
Are we there yet?

No!
-
Are we there yet?
Yes!

Did anyone see this JAWS 3 movie in 3-D?
I did. The 3-D was merely OK, not nearly as good as some of the other 3-D movies of the same era. I think the 3-D in FRIDAY THE 13th III-D was the best use of 3-D I've ever seen in a movie.
-
Will we never get to page six?
In just a moment.
It only takes a moment. (A Jerry Herman reference).
-
I finished listening to the commentary track on the ANGEL episode I watched last evening. I'll probably watch the next episode on the ANGEL disc when I go back down so I can put away disc one in the Season 4 set.
-
Spent the remainder of the afternoon watching and enjoying THE SONG OF BERNADETTE. What a splendid cast of great actors make up the supporting players in this movie. I had forgotten what a triumphant group of actors it was. And not just the well known folks, but look in the background and you see folks like Dickie Moore.
And that Alfred Newman score! One of the best ever!
-
It only takes a moment. also a Charles Nelson Reilly reference.
-
The movie is part of Fox's Studio Classics, so they did a first rate job cleaning it up and getting rid of most of the obvious dirt and debris for the DVD. I noticed a few light scratches once in a while, but nothing very obtrusive. It's sharp and has tremendous black levels. Just astounding that it looks so good.
-
Back from a spot of luncheon - two hot dogs and some chili cheese fries (shared) at my nearby Carny's. Now, I have only been to Carny's once before, and I actually don't remember when - but it had to be in the late 70s, at least I think it was. I remember not thinking much of the experience. So, imagine my surprise at how great the hot dogs were, and the chili cheese fries were the best I ever had. Two weeks ago I went to The Wiener Factory, where I used to go all the time, and while it was good, it didn't quite live up to my memory of it, whereas Carny's was almost twice as good and surpassed whatever memories I had by 1000%.
-
Will we never get to page seven?
-
While I was out today, two men in a van attempted to kidnap the nice teenage girl across the street. Chinchy bassas.
-
Will we never get to page seven?
It will happen at some point.
-
While I was out today, two men in a van attempted to kidnap the nice teenage girl across the street. Chinchy bassas.
WHAT?!?!?!?!?
-
Supposed to be 90 today. Boo! That's too hot for May!
Very Warm for May, indeed! :)
-
Heading down now to watch an ANGEL episode and then MARIE ANTOINETTE. I cleaned the dining room this morning so I don't have to worry about that this evening.
WBBL.
-
WELCOME BACK, DR Jeanne...we have missed you!
-
DR Ginny...thanks for sharing the recipe. There aren't enough recipes on HHW!
-
Her mom came over to ask if anyone here saw anything. She was walking the dog on our street when they tried to get her into the van.I hope they find the creeps. I have a daughter who walks, too.
-
We're STILL on page six? How can this be? We've had like eight posts in the last three hours. I tell you, those who have been errant and truant will pay the price, oh, yes, they will pay the price.
I'm watching The Third Secret on DVD.
-
Both my computer and my CD player are acting up today, so I'm concerned about the state of the art in my apartment! I am not happy at the moment at all.
-
DR Laura, that's a terrifying story. How old is the girl? Why is it this madness didn't seem to be occurring 50 years ago when I was a kid? I know it must have, but surely not with the enormous number of situatons today.
-
Happy Birthday DR Arnold M. Brockman!!
-
Is Dakota ok? I just have the use of a computer for a few minutes, so please email me if something happened.
DR Laura, I'm glad your neighbor is ok.
We are having loads of nice visits with Keith's mother. She is smiling at Sherlock right now. He is such a good boy.
-
Der Brucer has just slipped some Anna Russel into the DVD player.
She should go well with tonight's hot dogs.
-
Der Brucer has just slipped some Anna Russel into the DVD player.
She should go well with tonight's hot dogs.
So would the baked beans I made today - they went quite well with our hamburgers and potato salad.
-
Very scary, DR DearReaderLaura, about your neighbor. Hope she's OK.
-
She's sixteen and a very nice girl.
-
I am making chicken kabobs for dinner. I hope my Dh will eat it.

That is not the made-for-TV version starring Angie Dickinson as Bernadette is it?
-
I am making chicken kabobs for dinner. I hope my Dh will eat it.
If he doesn't, DR Laura, please mail them to me.
-
Matt H. said earlier that there was nothing to watch tonight on network television. Was he unaware that the Miss Universe Pageant will be broadcast on NBC???
Well, it is hosted by Mario Lopez.
-
And one for Mario
-
I just ran up (actually drove) to the supermarket to pick up a loaf of Cannon Beach Milk & Honey Bread for my meat loaf sandwiches tomorrow. Driving back, I started wondering, "Has anyone ever seen a production of Jerry Herman's MILK AND HONEY?
Hey, it's a post isn't it?
-
Ginny, do you make your own potato salad?
-
Driving back, I started wondering, "Has anyone ever seen a production of Jerry Herman's MILK AND HONEY?
Hey, it's a post isn't it?
No, but Val Kilmer IS moses.
"Shalom" - is that a salad vegetable.
-
Ginny, do you make your own potato salad?
DR TCB - no, I leave the homemade potato salad to my sister, her daughter, and my mother-in-law. Can't compete with them, so I buy it at the Kroger deli.
-
Just listened to Ethel Merman's Broadway and am happily eating summer fuit and studying for my math final.

For the sake of the sanity of all who may read these posts, I will refrain from rehashing last night Jose/TCB discusson of THE THREE FACES OF CABARET.
However, it started me thinking about all of these re-writes and revisions of classic musicals. Ther have always been changes and additions to productions that are in rehearsal, or in tryouts. Songs come and go, the same with entire scenes. Even after shows have officially opened (and an OC recording made) songs have been dropped from shows. "Fie on Goodness" from CAMELOT; "Spanglish" from SEESAW; and the self-flagellation version of "Johanna" from SWEENEY TODD all come to mind.
It just doesn't seem like until recent years, there were entire rewrites of shows, with songs replaced by songs from the movie version. It reminds me of Tennessee Williams and his constantly revised plays. Have I just been been ignorant of this practice, say prior to the last twenty years (THE SOUND OF MUSIC)?

I saw "Meet the Robinsons in 3-D" a few months ago and the 3-D effects in that were wonderful!
-
I was against the whaling industry completely - now I have doubts.
I guess there is a connection between Moses and The Whaling Wall.

I remember reading (was it in BK's "Lost In Boston" CDs?) that over the years, Maltby and Shire wrote something 60-70 songs for their musical, Big!

DR TCB, musicals for the past century have added and replaced numbers, often as a publicity ploy to lure an audience back ("Bessie Wynn has new number OUR CASTLE IN SPAIN in Babes In Toyland"), sometimes because the new star wants another number, sometimes the show got simplified for the tour. Besides the BABES reference, I can think of the following:
The 1902 Wizard of Oz regularly gave new numbers to replacements and the two stars Montgomery & Stone regularly replaced numbers. This was a common occurrence for shows at the time: The Arcadians had a wonderful song "Bring Me A Rose" that never made the stock-amateur rental package.
In 1917, "Peter Pan" was replaced for the tour of Have A Heart with "Daisy" for the leading lady, who also got a new opening number, "Look In His Eyes." The female comedy lead had at various times the following songs in her Act Two spot: "Come Out of the Kitchen," "It's A Sure Sure Sign," and "Can the Cabaret."
In 1934, after opening on Broadway, Life Begins at 8:40 lost a comedy number, "Weekend Cruise" featuring Bert Lahr, Earl Oxford, and Frances Williams and "Let's Take A Walk Around The Block" got a second refrain.
Because of fatigue, Gwen Verdon regularly dropped numbers in performance of Redhead.
In 1965, when the National Company of Hello Dolly! was in rehearsal, the Act Two Butterfly number on Broadway was replaced with the Polka Contest, which went into the Broadway show with Ginger Rogers taking over for Channing. Merman got new songs when she took over the role.

Time for "On the Lot"...
-
While I was out today, two men in a van attempted to kidnap the nice teenage girl across the street. Chinchy bassas.
:o That's horrible!
~~~Vibes that they find and convict the Chinchy bassas!!~~~
Hmm... A new hostess. Hmm.. ???
Hmm... What happened to the one page script movies? ???
-
Hmm... What happened to the one page script movies? ???
WTH!!!
Suddenly we are watching one minute movies they made in their two weeks at home.
Yes, what happened to the one minute movie in one hour? It was featured in the previews last time.
If they mess this up....I will have to give up on it. Suddenly it's like American Idol....the worst of American Idol. I liked the format the first couple of weeks. I don't know if I can take an AUDIENCE show.
DR FJL - my rant is in DR TCB's reply. 8)
-
I am watching the World Music Awards. It's an opportunity to catch up on what they are listening to in Belgium.
-
I am watching the World Music Awards. It's an opportunity to catch up on what they are listening to in Belgium.
Mostly Waffle I think.
The Waffle Invasion is coming to the American music scene! Watch for it!
Ain't nothin' goin' on but the rant
-
I am watching the World Music Awards. It's an opportunity to catch up on what they are listening to in Belgium.
Always important to know. ;D
-
Of course Belgium did give the pop world "Plastic Bertrand" and "Telex" .
-
Send Kenny home....what a dumb film.
-
If you want to see a real Belgian waffle, ask Jean Claude Van Damm if he is straight.
-
Confused - are these the best artists or the Best-selling artists?
-
Who is the DB that Beyonce thanked - Debby Boone?
-
How sad! The USA missed out on the hits by those two Belgian stars.
Do find out what you missed check out Bertrand's "Ca Plane Pour Moi" and the Telex version of "Rock Around The Clock".
-
Belgium is still (I believe) McDonalds free.
Belgium prides itself on the best pommes frites in the world.
-
Beyonce?
-
Is she on Miss Universe or the World Music Competition?
-
Evening all!
I tried to clean Mom's room today. I'm afraid I did more crying then cleaning.
My left arm was thumping like crazy. I still have the stress test to go through. I'm just going to have see what that tells me.
Mom’s “friend” stopped by today. Many months ago, she gave a twenty to a Jehovah Witness because she felt sorry for the old lady and then she couldn’t get rid of her. She kept stopping back by. I told her Mom passed and that I work so hopefully I won’t have her stopping by on the weekends. I dang sure am not going to be handing her twenty dollars every time she shows up.
I let her pray over me and then she was on her way. :)
-
Page Eight Frances Farmer dance.
-
I'm not looking forward to going to work tomorrow. It's been a couple of weeks now (at least that how it seems) since I've been back. Ugh. :P
Did you know that work is a four letter word? :-\
-
Off to rehearsal! We're running through acts 1, 2 & 3. We are only going to have two acts, but I don't remember where it actually breaks. Until later!
-
DR TCB - no, I leave the homemade potato salad to my sister, her daughter, and my mother-in-law. Can't compete with them, so I buy it at the Kroger deli.
I make potato salad but I don't put mustard in it. It's just potatos, hard boiled eggs, onions, celery, salt, pepper and Miracle Whip.
-
Off to rehearsal! We're running through acts 1, 2 & 3. We are only going to have two acts, but I don't remember where it actually breaks. Until later!
Have a wonderful rehearsal, DR George!
-
Yes DR DANISE - work IS a 4 letter word.
Sign of summer: I've just assembled my first batch of baked beans for the season. You start with a 28-oz can of Campbell's Pork & Beans (drain off a little of the liquid) and add 2 Tbsp. brown sugar, 1/4 C. molasses, 1/4 C. catsup, 1 tsp. yellow mustard, 1 tsp. hot dog relish (mustard & pickle relish mixed), and some chopped onion if desired. I'll have to try your Baked Beans, DR Ginny. I've never had them on pumpernikel bread either.
ON THE LOT is turning into sort of a pill.
-
Yes DR DANISE - work IS a 4 letter word.
;D
I was afraid Frances was putting us into widescreen, so she has been deleted.
ON THE LOT is turning into sort of a pill.
....And I'm already dreading the recap at the end of the show...
"Now, if you'd like to vote for.... Dial.. Vote.. Text..."
18 times!?!?!!?!
Different Frances Farmer dance.
....And I'm already dreading the recap at the end of those...
18 times!?!?!!?!
Makes Miss Universe seem lively. ;D
I was afraid Frances was putting us into widescreen, so she has been deleted.
She did not have to be deleted. Is it possible should could be resized?
Danise is close to post #4000
This makes me sick. Wasn't the hog more impressive when it was ALIVE? Why to people have to kill something to be a "big" man/person?
-
Danise is close to post #4000
I'm afraid I never look at that, DR FJL. I guess I should but I don't.
-
Just caught up with Eye on the Sparrow and I'll catch up with the rest tomorrow.
We were on LI all weekend. I just got back. We had a great time but I'm pooped!
I have to go back to work tomorrow and begin in ernest the repair of the fast approaching Connecticut presentation.
See you all later.
-
Topic of the day about writing stars. Well, I told you all the Jack Wild story. I can't really think of anyone else. I was never one for writting people after that.
I have to go as well. I need to check the bus web site. Lord only knows what they have done to the route in the time I've been gone. We may not even have a bus route for all I know.
I still think they should change the name from HARTLINE to FARTLINE: Because our service stinks.
At least that would be honest. ;)
Laters,
Have a wonderful evening all!
-
If he doesn't, DR Laura, please mail them to me.
Sorry, TCB. He ate it. I am shocked.
-
I thought DR DANISE had reposted the Val Kilmer pic.
-
Hmmm... I didn't think he was a nerd either. :-\
-
She did not have to be deleted. Is it possible should could be resized?
So let it be written, so let it be done.
This is a couple of news photos of Frances when she was rediscovered clerking at the Sheraton Palace Hotel in San Francisco in 1957. ;D
-
Welcome back, DR Jeanne. We've missed you!
Thank you, my dear. I've missed HHW, too.
-
Hmmm... I didn't think he was a nerd either. :-\
Me either. I have to say the ON THE LOT judges are on the money. 8)
Welcome home, DR Jeanne!
thank you, Jose!
wish I had a brother!
While I was out today, two men in a van attempted to kidnap the nice teenage girl across the street. Chinchy bassas.
A couple thoughts:
(1) You do have some interesting experiences, DR Laura.
(2) Is there an implication here that had you been home, then...???
-
WELCOME BACK, DR Jeanne...we have missed you!
thanks, Singdaw! I plan to be less E&T now. I've missed all of you, too!
-
Frightening news from DR LAURA!
-
Director David ON THE LOT looks like DR MBARNUM.
-
We're STILL on page six? How can this be? We've had like eight posts in the last three hours. I tell you, those who have been errant and truant will pay the price, oh, yes, they will pay the price.
Bruce, pls note that I'm BACK! (For what it's worth.)
DR Laura, that's a terrifying story. How old is the girl? Why is it this madness didn't seem to be occurring 50 years ago when I was a kid? I know it must have, but surely not with the enormous number of situatons today.
Yes, it DID happen fifty years ago. Little was done, things were hushed up. Sometimes when a group of women get together many stories pour forth. In my experience, a great many women have suffered some sort of abuse or near abuse. We just don't talk about it.
-
A couple thoughts:
(1) You do have some interesting experiences, DR Laura.
(2) Is there an implication here that had you been home, then...???
Well, I didn't have the experience; she did. This has always been a very safe neighborhood, so it is upsetting. It's a shame a young girl can't even walk around the block at noon.
I was out getting my new camera when this happened.
-
So let it be written, so let it be done.
This is a couple of news photos of Frances when she was rediscovered clerking at the Sheraton Palace Hotel in San Francisco in 1957. ;D
Hey, maybe that is what has become of June Kenney...only she hasn't been recognized yet.
-
DR you tell DR Sandra to be extra carefull!
-
DR George, I have seen RING OF FIRE advertised by gray market companies in CLASSIC IMAGES in the past...I will keep my eye out for it again...it is a wonderful movie as I recall.
-
I make potato salad but I don't put mustard in it. It's just potatos, hard boiled eggs, onions, celery, salt, pepper and Miracle Whip.
My mother-in-law's "secret" ingredient is Marzetti's Slaw Dressing.
I buy Kroger's mustard potato salad and DH Richard adds a dollop of mustard to his serving.
-
Hey, maybe that is what has become of June Kenney...only she hasn't been recognized yet.
Give a sharp look to all those clerks checking you in and renting you cars in LA....one could be Ms Kenney!
I still think her relatives in Boston would know something. 8)
-
Well, I didn't have the experience; she did. This has always been a very safe neighborhood, so it is upsetting. It's a shame a young girl can't even walk around the block at noon.
I was out getting my new camera when this happened.
I can understand your concern.
I was in downtown LA many years ago when I walked into a mugging. The guy with the gun was standing right next to me. I slipped into a local shop to get away from him. A few minutes later the police arrived, etc. It's unsettling, to be sure.
-
Did they catch the people, dear reader Laura? Or did they just get away?
I'm watching The Sand Pebbles.
-
If you want to see a real Belgian waffle, ask Jean Claude Van Damm if he is straight.
Ouch!
::)
-
Wow someone should tell that hostess how to pronounce "Thee-ter."
-
Ouch!
::)
Hahahahahaha. ;D
-
The headline of the day has been one I first saw here from DR GINNY:
Husband of Ashley Judd Wins Indy 500
-
Hmm... Looks like I'll have to venture elsewhere if I'd like some Popeye's Fried Chicken... I was just watching the 10:00 news, and the lead story was about a woman who had a leg cramp while driving, and ended up stepping on the gas, and driving into a Popeye's Fried Chicken location. The one two blocks from my apartment. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
I had gone out for a walk earlier, and noticed some commotion and TV cameras out there, but couldn't tell what had happened. Guess I know what happened now.
-
Everyone on the OTL message board thinks the judges are crazy and the hostess is a lost cause.
I didn't join to vote, because I don't think it matters, but IF movies are really all barfing, farting, and peeing, then I know why I don't go to a lot of movies.
AND no matter what his mother says on the message board...the guy in the short movie seemed "special" and not "a nerd."
-
I wonder who was more surprised? Popeye or the Chickens?
-
Yikes, DR Jose, I'm glad you didn't decide to have Popeye's for dinner tonight!
-
I wonder who was more surprised? Popeye or the Chickens?
Sadly, none of the chickens survived.
-
Yes, it DID happen fifty years ago. Little was done, things were hushed up. Sometimes when a group of women get together many stories pour forth. In my experience, a great many women have suffered some sort of abuse or near abuse. We just don't talk about it.
I know too many stories of abuse in my own family's past. but that wasn't my point. I was talking about abducting children off the streets. The local news is full of stories. It's clearly becoming quite a popular thing in criminal/psycho behavior to abduct young people. I don't recall much about this at all 50 years ago, even though it must have happened. It seems so prevalent these days.
-
Maybe this is beside the point, but I had Kentucky Fried Chicken last friday without incident.
(I did have sweet and sour sauce, though.)
-
They are still at large, as far as I know.
-
I could have sworn I posted something earlier today from Orlando.
Don't remember what it was, but I thought I did.
Well I am back and looking forward to the new week.
Exciting isn't it?
-
Maybe this is beside the point, but I had Kentucky Fried Chicken last friday without incident.
(I did have sweet and sour sauce, though.)
I hate to admit it, but I had KFC last night and tonight
-
I remember going to see the Russian Giselle (Bolshoi Ballet) film years ago. Is that similar to the Lithuanian Gazelle.
-
Today I scrubbed all the old wall paper paste off the bathroom walls and painted the dark blue ceiling with a coat of Kilz. I was exhausted and decided to clean up and paint another day. About 7:00 PM, I was sitting here thinking there was nothing I wanted to watch on TV so I painted the bathroom. I need to touch up a few spots and put up the border next weekend. Whew! I have a feeling my shoulders will be sore tomorrow
-
Matt H. said earlier that there was nothing to watch tonight on network television. Was he unaware that the Miss Universe Pageant will be broadcast on NBC???
Well, it is hosted by Mario Lopez.
Maybe I should have said there is nothing FOR ME to watch on network television tonight.
I remember when I was in grammar school being scared out of my mind by warnings about men in cars tempting kids with candy and then kidnapping them. But I don't remember ever hearing about this actually happening. Maybe they are not scaring the kids enough these days.
Val Kilmer is NOT Moses. He is a beached whale.
(I have no room to talk.)
TOD - many of you know that's how I met Rupert. I wrote him a fan letter back in 1976 and he called me to say thank you. I met him a few months later when I was on a church trip to New York. We corresponded off and on over the years and I'm pleased that along the way we became good friends.
I wrote to LBJ when I was in 5th grade. He wrote me back the month before he died. It was a nice personal letter. He was no longer president.
I wrote to Robert Blake when he was on Baretta. He sent a photo.
I wrote to Batman and Robin, they sent photos and a photo of the bat mobile.
I wrote to the Banana Splitz, they sent a fan club membership packet
I wrote to Richard Nixon, I got a form letter back (I was starting a former presidents collection.)
I think there may have been more, I just don't remember.
I began my evening of viewing with the last ANGEL episode on disc one in the season four boxed set. In this one, Cordy has come back, but she has total amnesia. The only one she allows to get close to her is Angel's son Connor.
The entire Wesley/Leila affair is creepy beyond words. I can't wait for him to rejoin the group.
-
Needing to continue with another David Boreanaz fix, I put in a disc from the first season of BONES and rewatched the episode with the remains of a six year old found in a field. Very heart-rending story as the death of the child affected everyone on the team.
-
Today, I bought, prepared the ground for and then planted:
24 petunias
4 Supersonic tomato plants
4 cherry tomato plants
2 California Wonder pepper plants
1 yarrow bush
1 black eye susan
I then mulched and watered.
Thanks again to tcb for the alert - the folks at the imdb have now adjusted Skip's info and the info for the film FRIENDS AND FAMILY to reflect his having written the original song "You Can't Surprise Me" in the movie. They took a few days to verify the info, but it was a pretty efficient process.
Next came the 1938 extravaganza MARIE ANTOINETTE. MGM must have spent $3 million or more on this HUGE undertaking with many known actors, sometimes in small roles, and the most lavish costumes especially for Norma Shearer that have ever been made.
This may well be Norma's finest hour. And Tyrone Power was at the height of his glamor, too.
-
TOD:
I wrote to Lily Tomlin when I was in high school. She sent a very nice postcard in reply.
-
Wow Dtm, that's a lot. I forgot to put my tomato plants in cages. I'll have to do that this week, they are getting huge
-
I watched the special feature on the DVD that contained the premiere of MARIE ANTOINETTE. Lots of stars in attendance. Robert Taylor and Barbara Stanwyck were there, but he didn't seem any too pleased to have to be there, and she was standing in the background very quietly. Lots of other stars, too. Norma was escorted by Ty.
David Boreanaz paraded in his underwear here in Philly last week, as reported in this article (http://www.philly.com/philly/entertainment/20070527_Inqlings___Boreanaz_and_the_joy_of_socks.html) (there's a picture, too!)
I'll get the cages on this week.
I just realized that I forgot about the four pots of marigolds that I planted amongst the tomatos (they're suppose to ward off bugs.)
DR Edi - I caught about the last 10 minutes, including the important part: the credits with your name in them!
The folks we were visiting in Kingston to shoot skeet, etc. were the gardeners featured in this show. They drove us around through acres of woods on something called a "Mule", but a 4-wheel variety.
-
Even though I'm hopped up on a couple of glasses of Cherry Coke Zero, I need to try to go to bed now. Good night, y'all!
-
MattH is getting mighty close to 25000.
But I find and post the evidence!
They are casting the "Hogzilla" film in Tucker, GA this weekend...
Wonder who will be cast as the title character?
Thanks for the link to the article! That green sock quirk was something I wasn't aware of. Very interesting!
And now, I'm heading downstairs to bed.
Good night!
Did you know that work is a four letter word? :-\
The gardener we visited in Alabama, who is about 70, told us that he hates it when women use 4 letter words...
like "Stop"
and "Don't"
etc.
We danced for hours through his garden, over the skywalks and the decks, to music one of the gardening producers brought. It was mostly Cole Porter, Gershwin and beach music. When we finished playing her CD's, we asked our host if he had any other music.
He put on one of Moby's CD's (the first one) and started dancing to "When My Honey Comes Back". The producers had never heard of Moby, but I was quite impressed!
Of course, we'd had quite a bit of wine, which came out of this wine cellar hidden in a grotto:
-
A nice place to sit in the cool of the wine cellar, with hand-painted murals of the garden:
This garden could comfortably host hundreds of people for dinner and partying---there are probably 40 or 50 places for people to sit, relax and dine.
And drink wine, of course...
This is one of my favorite tables, A waterfall from high on the property cascades down and through a channel on the table. The water is cold, so you can keep your wine cold by setting the bottle in the table. You can also put candles in the rings in the water.
-
For DR Laura: one of my favorite shrubs---we all forgot the name of it but the gardener said it was easy to grow and is going to give us all some cuttings.
-
So the movie XANADU is based on a Rita Hayworth movie? Why didn't I know this?
From the new camera:
Nice photos, DR Laura! What kind did you get?
-
I won't write about the skeet shooting, because there was another incident that happened right before we arrived that put a damper on things. It's too disturbing for me to write about, and it would bother most of the animal lovers here.
-
And with that, I'm off to bed. Nytol!
-
A woman had a cramp in her leg, stepped on the gas, and drove into a Popeye's restaurant. What's wrong with this picture? What information aren't we getting? Like maybe she shouldn't be allowed to drive an automobile? I'm sorry, and I'm certainly not an ageist, but if this woman was elderly, then it's just so typical of these sorts of accidents (I'm sure some remember that horrifying accident in Santa Monica some years ago where an elderly man got "confused" and stepped on the gas, killing about twenty people. And if it wasn't an elderly lady, then whoever it was should have her license taken away because she obviously cannot handle problems while in the car, and I don't give a flying Wallenda if she had a leg cramp or not, for God's sake.
-
BK, Carney's okay, but it don't hold a candle to Pink's.
-
Skip got a chuckle because I insisted on using up some of the old 39-cent stamps we had on some priority mail envelopes (one of which was to BK).
I think Skip was laughing at me, not with me. :)
I used a bunch of them on a package going out the other day. Guess he's laugh at me too ;)
Well, maybe tomorrow Jeff will be here to cut down the trees. It's supposed to rain sometime in the afternoon, so we'll see. I have to go to court for one hearing in the afternoon, but other than that I'll be here if he is.
-
Did I mention I got carded at a bar at the lake last Friday? I'm assuming they card everyone, but I loved the look on the girls face when she saw my birthdate
-
It did look funny having those twelve 39-cent stamps all lined up. I would have chuckled at me, too, if it weren't for the fact that it was me at whom I would have been chuckling.
:)
-
They kind of overwhelmed the envelope.
-
But I do worry that if I don't use up the 39-centers, I'll use them on something important and forget to add the penny stamps.
I guess I could just chuck the 39-centers, but that would be wasteful.
-
A veritable postal posting frenzy
-
My own harmless version of going postal, I guess.
-
Wow. You got carded? Congrats!
I never get carded. They just let me order off the senior menu with nary a word.
-
LOL, I think if I tried to order off the senior menu I'd get carded for that too.
-
Laura, what kind of camera did you buy
-
Time for me to get some sleep. I don't know what the morrow shall bring....
-
A Canon of some kind. I will have to take it for a walk tomorrow.
-
Have a wonderful rehearsal, DR George!
Thanks! It is fun...and I'm starting to realize that I'm really glad that I only have three lines! ;) There are just SO many words.
-
I know too many stories of abuse in my own family's past. but that wasn't my point. I was talking about abducting children off the streets. The local news is full of stories. It's clearly becoming quite a popular thing in criminal/psycho behavior to abduct young people. I don't recall much about this at all 50 years ago, even though it must have happened. It seems so prevalent these days.
Maybe when you were a kid you just didn't pay as much attention to the news.
If you ever havce an opportunity to look at some newspapers from the 40s or 50s you will notice that things haven't really changed much...or vice versa.
-
DR George, I have seen RING OF FIRE advertised by gray market companies in CLASSIC IMAGES in the past...I will keep my eye out for it again...it is a wonderful movie as I recall.
Thanks! Actually, I'm sure my co-worker will thank you, Michael. :)
-
Well, I've had to be away for a few days with varied and sun-dried things, and so I haven't been able to post at all.
(and I think I just heard a huge collective cheer from all over the country)
-
And now, all of our east coasters have gone to their sleeping chambers.......... And I'm about to do the same thing here.
A very good goodnight to all.......
and a Good night to dear Esteemed BK .. :)
-
Goodnight.
Taming is one of my FAVORITE Bard plays, and I once played the widow at the end. Very fun, I used to know every word by heart, and have seen many productions. The version I was in was unique in the fact that we tried to reproduce the musical version from Kiss Me Kate, using the songs and dances where they belonged, and the rest from the traditional play. I loved it.
Sounds like fun...but was that legal??
And now...I'm off to bed. I'm quite tired from this whole weekend, so I'm doing the Wussburger. 8)
