Well, you've read the notes, the notes were nostalgic and forward-looking at the same time, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they, as always, are trying to assure me that they'll be coming home in the New Year.
-
And the word of the day is: ARMILLARY!
-
Will we never get to page two? No matter what happens today, we beat last December by a few miles.
-
Welcome eight GUESTS!
-
BK, have you seen the Woody Allen movie, "Everyone Says I Love You"? If you did, what did you think?
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR'S EVE DAY!!
-
That was weird - I just "ejected" my backup hard drive after it did its update, just like I always do - I saw the icon disappear, and I unplugged the drive - and got one of those ! messages that said I may have lost data or damaged it because I didn't eject it. Say what?
-
I did not like the Woody Allen movie - I ultimately shut it off.

Ahh. I think I might have gotten a used video some time ago, but if I did, it's packed away in my garage in an unmarked box.

Our local PBS is apparently starting the Jerry Herman docu at 1030, so I'll have to tape it and watch on NY night. 'cause tomorrow's a work day...Agree with BK's comments on Sweeny, esp the performance of Toby...Listening to the CD in the car, some of HBC's dialog is inaudible, but overall I liked the flick......A Theater Binge in NYC last Spring-It was the best of binges, it was the worst of binges...LoveMusik, Utopia Marathon, Curtains, Deuce, ACL, Moon/Misbegotten, Company, Frost/Nixon, Journeys End, Redgrave solo. I liked them all, except for Mamma Mia, tho the Mamma in question was a wonderful singer....The worst part, downright traumatizing, was my exposure to cell phones, texting, glaring H2o bottles etc.It hadn't been like this my last NYC visit('02)Next time i'll steel myself in advance or bring valium or something practical. An advance Happy New Year to All!

Good morning, all! I hace few plans today, but I am going into the office this morning. I need to photocopy the pages from the 1935 auction catalogue in which Clifford Herbert put up for sale the original full scores to BABES IN TOYLAND. Part of today and tomorrow, I will try to assemble a history of how the materials ended up at the Library of Congress.
I also will be seeing THE WATER HORSE later this afternoon, and then I will spend New Year's Eve at home, which is where I prefer to be on New Year's Eve.
Yesterday, I made out the check for the estate's legal fees, and my dad's estate is essentially settled. I have to deal with his tax returns before April, but everything else is pretty much wrapped up and this was the major part of my calendar year 2007: losing my dad and a brother (well, technically I lost him in July 2006) and dealing with the cleanup. Other unfortunate things that occurred this year were the trauma of moving the recording office and the limbo/stasis we seem to be currently in and how to resolve this positively.
The best thing for me this year was the NYMF production of THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X, which certainly jerked my career out of its period of mourning and stirred things up. The second best was meeting in person more of the delightful folk hanging out on this site and socializing with the friends I consider family on this site. I was also lucky getting to work with Ashley Brown, Brad Haak, and David Burnham. and I hope 2008 continues the positive momentum.
-
TOD:
There are many things I am thankful for in 2007, but by far the best has been discovering and joining HHW and the wonderful, incredible people who are a part of this community.
Thanks to you all, and ***SUPER VIBES*** for a fantastic 2008! :)

Yesterday I saw a bumper sticker that said:
CAUTION: DATES ON THE CALENDAR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR!!

Monday. No, I don't have to work.
DR RLP and DR derBRUCER - I enjoy Ms Esther Williams movies, just don't understand them. I certainly have a couple of favorites....Neptune's Daughter and Million Dollar Mermaid, and would never begrudge her the success she earned.
As for the erstwhilie G. Kelly and B. Peters....I think I wrote before that I thought Peters was brilliant as Dot in SITPWG, but that she grates on my nerves in anything else I have seen or heard her doing...including a cloying and annoying "Poor Butterfly" on The Carol Burnett Show decades ago.
Gene Kelly - okay as a hoofer, pretentious when he "dances."
-
DR GEORGE - that's some list. Really sad to see it all in one place like that.
-
Happy New Year's Eve Day Page Two Dance.
-
I think I wrote before that I thought Peters was brilliant as Dot in SITPWG,
Well, I agree on that. I also liked her a lot in the James Lapine film IMPROMPTU. I thought the role of the Witch in INTO THE WOODS was poorly conceived and that Ms Peters acquitted herself well with an ill-defined part. However, I've seen her in THE GOODBYE GIRL and ANNIE GET YOUR GUN in which her voice was shot to hell and I really thought that I'd see the understudy in Act Two. AGYG proved as well that anybody can win a Tony; it was one of the worst performances I've ever seen a winner give,
-
I fear that I shall be in bed fast asleep long before the ball drops [on either coast!]. :P
-
Good morning!
-
The sun is out - the sky is blue. I think I will go out for a walk.
-
Will we never get to 2008?
-
LOL, Julie

Underpants!
This ''underpants'' brought to you live from a parking garage booth where absolutely nothing is happening.

DR Sandra - I'm sure you'll do something soon to shake things up around there! :)
-
I am making butternut squash soup for tonight.
-
Off to do a little shopping
-
Good New Years Eve morning. It is 28 degrees and a bit icy out...I had a heck of a time opening the garbage container outside in order to dump my garbage because it was all iced up! Brrrrrrr.

I am listening to Lawrence Welk.

Is this the final MONDAY of 2007?
-
I forgot my pencil.
-
Favorite happenings of 2007, for me...
my trip to Hollywood in March...I always, ALWAYS, have such a blast when I vacation in Los Angeles. Mr BK is a blast to diine with and never fails to crack me up, and it is always fun to visit with DRs Adrianna and Cason and the visiting DRs Miss Karen and DR Musicguy (my official west coast travel guide). And any time I can visit with the lovely and hilarious Ms. Laurie Mitchell is always a treat for me!
...my trip to NYC this summer was also a blast...DRs Jose (my offical travel guide for the east coast), DRs (and hosts) Elmore and Rodzinski, Ben and Ant, Jason, Fred and Skip, are all so much fun to see...and the added enjoyment of seeing some of my favorite DRs, namely the visiting DR Ginny and hubby Richard, and DR loveable DR Singdaw was beyond compare.
Other then those two wonderful trips my hilights were interviewing some wonderful actors and actresses including the long searched for Jody Fair, Gregory Moffett, and Jewell Lain, along with Erin O'Donnell and Ron Hagerthy...all were high on my list of interviewees and each one was a delight to chat with!
As well, I had numerous interviews published this year...and that makes me very happy!
-
I have noticed a distinct lack of enough coffee around here.
-
Or perhaps I am ready for my afternoon nap.
-
DR JULIE becomes Poster of the Day very early on! LOL. ;D

I forgot my pencil.
This German woman (http://www.time.com/time/specials/2007/top10/article/0,30583,1686204_1690170_1690499,00.html?cnn=yes) used to carry hers with her, everywhere she went... :P
-
DR JULIE becomes Poster of the Day very early on!
Didn't DR JRand57 mean poster child? ;)
-
Good morning!
A bright, beautiful last day of 2007, and it's going to get into the 60s today, but quickly the temps are supposed to plunge into the 40s for the rest of the week. Ah, January!
-
I have noticed a distinct lack of enough coffee around here.
The Cherry Coke is running low in here.
-
Something just happened.
-
DR George,
I did not enjoy EVERYONE SAYS I LOVE YOU very much. I'm glad Woody tried a musical, but using old numbers instead of songs written specifically for the film limited it in appeal as many of his actors weren't very good singers, so the standards they sung fell very flat.
I believe Drew Barrymore did NOT do her own singing. In fact, as I recall, she DEMANDED a voice double or she refused to do the movie.
-
And now it's over.
-
I didn't even see Bernadette Peters in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, but I thought her performance on the cast recording was atrocious.
I have generally liked her in everything else I've seen her do. Loved her in PENNIES FROM HEAVEN.
-
The biggest thing to happen to me in 2007 was landing a critic's job reviewing DVDs at Home Theater Forum. I began in February with the Criterion account. Soon after, I was also given the Disney sDVD account. By late-summer, I had also been given the Disney Blu-rays. At the beginning of December, it was decided that I'd take over the Paramount account and let the Paramount reviewer have my Disney standard account. So now I handle Criterion, Paramount/Dreamworks, and Disney Blu-ray.
For someone like me who adores films and television and loves working from home, this has been a dream come true. I don't know how 2008 could be any better.
-
Page Three Harry Potter Dance (for real!)
-
Just wanted to mention that Dan O'Herlihy was also one of the stars of FAIL SAFE.
He was a fine actor, a good friend and he is missed.
-
I'm about to go on break. And, boy, do I need it.
-
I didn't see anything on local channels for me tonight, but will look again for that Jerry Herman special which I really want to see.
Otherwise, I know I'll be watching THE NAKED PREY at some point today (if it comes in the mail as expected).
-
Nice to see new member Druxie! Welcome!
I love FAIL SAFE, too, but a critic acquaintance of mine (Bill Warren) simply despises the movie. I've never really understood why.
-
The Cherry Coke is running low in here.
I thought they promised you in your job interview that it would be on tap.
-
Hiya, DR (Dear Reader) Druxy! Welcome to the family!
-
A hearty HainesHisWay welcome to new D[ear]R[eader] Druxy!!! :)

GOOD MORNING ALL!
I , of course, am not here as I am at work. I have to work a full day and then we are off to our friends' home for an all night house party and "sleepover" with festivities to continue the following day. This is the first year in 20 years that this party has not been at my house and I am not sure if I am sad or relieved.
So I am afraid my E & T ness will continue until at least midweek
but I will be raising a glass to all of you and wishing you all
JOY, LOVE, HEALTH , PEACE and PROSPERITY IN 2008!!!!!
-
I'm back from my break. I feel quite refreshed and ready to get back to the difficult task of sitting around.
-
Just gotta log on this last day of 2007 and wish you all a very Happy New Year's Eve -- and may 2008 be one for the records for all of us!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL YOU HHWers!!

I reached godliness on a funky, wacky website filled with funky, wacky, delightful folks...
I got to see Cason play Zubrick in The Brain From Planet X on a NYC stage ...
I got to see Cason play the Emcee in Cabaret on an LA stage ...
I started my quest for a Master of Humanities...
I completed the first semester of my Master quest...
I completed the second (practicum) semester of my Master quest ...
I introduced 23 kids to the joys of writing and performing three original melodramas ...

If you log in more often and do that gratuitous posting thing you do so well, we can't miss! :)
Why, of course, may 2008 be that kind of "for the records" year, too -- let the gratuitous posting begin!!

New Year's Eve morning greetings! We're having a very low-key holiday. Tonight we have plans to double-date with Rob and Mary Linda to see Charlie Wilson's War and pick up Chinese carry-out for dinner. Somehow, Chinese food and a show have been a recurring New Year's Eve theme for Richard and myself, since even before we were married. 25 years ago tonight it was dinner at Dish of Salt on W. 46th St. in NYC and an evening performance of Evita on Broadway.
Tomorrow, I'll make a crock-pot full of chili and we'll watch TV all day - Rose Parade, Capital One Bowl (Go Blue!), Rose Bowl, and the Jerry Herman doc at 9:30pm on our local PBS stations.
-
But for each of you individually may 2008 be one for the records in that it is the most successful and happiest year yet!
...(and that this post just happened to add one more post to bk's quest for record-breaking posting numbers is just a coincidence ...) ...
-
bk's quest for record-breaking posting numbers
To infinity and beyond!
-
TOD - 2007 has not been my favorite year, what with DH Richard's shoulder surgery, DS Rob's mono, and the (mercifully brief) illness and death of my mother-in-law. However, there have been some wonderful periods of travel with DH Richard:
-Our trip to Washington, DC, and NYC in June/July, when we spent time with DRs Elmore, Jose, Ben, FJL, Singdaw, MusicGuy, MBarnum, and Jason, saw Curtains, and were graciously received in Fred & Skip's home and in Karen Ziemba's dressing room.
-Our trip to Nashotah House in July/August, when I got to meet Richard's classmates and attend their matriculation ceremony.
-Our trip to NYC in September/October, when we spent time with BK and DRs Elmore, Jose, FJL, Singdaw, Cason, Miss Karen, Vixmom, WFO, Ben, der Brucer, SWW, Edisaurus, Cillaliz, Samantha, Julie, Noel (hope I haven't forgotten anyone!), saw The Brain from Planet X, Such Good Friends, and The Last Starfighter, and attended the Plaza rehearsal with DR Elmore.
But, by far, the special-est thing that has happened this year is the introduction into our household of the lovely young lady Rob has been dating since early March. She has been at his side through some tough times and is delightful to have around, both for festive occasions and for vegging out in the family room eating pizza and watching Jeopardy.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And for the last time in 2007! ;)
-
And now..
Good Afternoon!

DRvixmom, whatever happened to the SWEENEY TODD plans?
-
Oh, and how could I forget to list:
I got tempted by the Enabler with my very first Levain and Monkey Cake in that mecca of temptation NYC..
I got to meet a bunch of the funky, wacky, delightful folks from the funky, wacky site in LA and NYC (new friends are always a highlight)...
-
A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF OUR DR'S
-
I guess New Year resolutions will be the TOD tomorrow... cause I was gonna say one of mine is to head down the hill to the Valley of the Sun to have pancakes with DRs MusicGuy and Laura (just for the experinece and so I can mark DRLaura off my list of HHWers to meet in this life time...)
-
..and speaking of DR MusicGuy: Where in the tarnation has he vanished to?
-
...and DR Francois ... and DR Dan the Man ... ?
-
Only the Shadow knows.
-
.. and DR TPunk .. and DR Rod.. ?
-
I know, I know, I'm one to talk with my E and T tendencies -- but I do let the cat drag me in every once in a while for a gratuitous mini-frenzy so you know I'm still alive and kickin' ...
-
Only the Shadow knows.
Well, he'd better start talkin'
-
And I'd better stop and take Deuce for his last mornin' walk of 2007 ...
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
When I started thinking about what I would write about, I really wasn't sure what I would write about. Was there anything to write about? Well... I guess I was still waiting for the morning coffee to kick, because this past year has most definitely been filled with some amazing experiences, moments and meetings.
Right off the bat, when I returned to NYC the first week in January after my extended stint down in DC, I had made a quiet pact with myself - well, a resolution - that I would stay in New York City during 2007. And I did. Yes, I had my usual long weekends out of the city every few months, but, otherwise, I was a New Yorker during 2007. And I have to say that The City has continued to amaze and awe and surprise me with its grandeur and beauty.
Work-wise, I've had some pretty heady moments... Getting to work on All About Us with Mr. Kander and that great cast and crew up at Westport County Playhouse... Starting my stint as a rehearsal pianist and keyboard sub for the revival of A Chorus Line... Playing for some "Stars" and "stars" at numerous(!) audition calls throughout the year... Getting a last minute call to play for a workshop for and on the Disney Cruise Line... Continuing my relationship with various casting agents and musical directors/conductors...
People-wise, well... Getting to meet David (a.k.a. DR singdaw), Amy (a.k.a. DR edisaurus) and her ever-lovin' Greg, Cason (a.k.a. DR Cason), Karen (a.k.a. DR MissKaren), Sam (a.k.a. DR Samantha), Adriana (a.k.a. DR AdrianaPatti), Matt (a.k.a. DR MattH), Jon (a.k.a. DR jhvw), Jeanne (a.k.a. DR Jeane) - I hope I didn't forget anyone(!).
...And continuing to meet up with - and Enable - the many DRs who live here in New York City and paid a visit to New York City this year.
And I hope to be able to put a real face to the avatars and screennames of the DRs I have yet to meet in person in 2008!
-
That's a grand idea, DR MissKaren.
-
Well, I'm currently in the midst of wrapping up my 2007 here in Richmond - laundry, cleaning, packing. My parents are about to head out look at cars - they have decided to explore some of the "cool places" here in Richmond on their own later this week. My Dad's current plan is to look today (in 2007), and buy tomorrow (in 2008). ;)
I don't have much more to take care of here, but I do want to get it all done sooner rather than later so that I can relax the rest of the day.
Laters...

Re: Bernadette Peters
I saw her in ANNIE GET YOUR GUN at the Kennedy Center. Not my favorite choice for casting, but I was impressed with her voice. So were the others I was there with. Perhaps she just had a better night.
-
I can tell you the worse thing that happened to me in 2007.
My car accident and injuries that prevented me from traveling to NYC to see The Brain From Planet X and everyone else. It also prevented me from going to Ireland which I was really looking forward to.
I hope to see both in 2008
-
For anyone familiar with it, can someone tell me why Paul Mauriat's "Puppet on a String" (not the Presley tune) sounds so familiar? Was it used in a commercial, maybe?
-
Saw this old print ad online and thought I'd share.

Hi all.
I'm back from my walk.
I'm fed.
I'm caffeinated.
I feel very high maintenance.

Which is you??
Take your pick...each and every one of them rifled through my closet!

I wonder how many ciggies that ad campaign actually sold! :P
-
Vibes to all.
Changed my mind: Favorite Esther Williams movie: Easy to Wed, costarring Mr Van Johnson and featuring Miss Lucille Ball and Mr Keenan Wynn.
Close third (Neptune's Daughter is still first) - the Unguarded Moment with Mr John Saxon.
-
I feel very high maintenance.
We live to serve! :)
-
Hello, everyone.
I wasn't sure how much work I'd feel like doing today, but I did a couple hours and that's good. I need to go to the bank, then I may just relax.
-
DR FJL -
I washed my hands! 8)
-
I wish everyone the very best for the coming year. New posting records for HHW! New books, new CDs, new productions! New friendships! And lots of great things all around!
-
Another welcome to new DR Druxy!
Tell us about yourself, please.
-
I don't recall if DR George posted his reaction.
I'm only about half way through the German cast recording of Wicked, but so far, with a few caveats, I think this is a better sung, better sounding recording than the original OBC! The music director is the same as for the OBC, so tempi-wise, it's almost a carbon copy of the original. But to be clear: the score IS sung in German!
-
Maybe we can institute some kind of HHW bingo game.
You cross off the boxes of those H/Ks you have met in person...
And sparkly prizes all around! :)
-
And since we're so close...
-

And one for Dino!!!

I'm off to see THE WATER HORSE. I had a lovely time down at Toyland and I photocopied the reference materials I need.
My neighbors have been cooking up a storm: yesterday, I could smell the most wonderful turkey baking and right now the building smells like roast beef.

I am eating pizza and drinking Cherry Coke.

They're not named Todd and Lovett, are they?

Yes, I forgot to mention Mr. O'Herlihy, who was a wonderful actor. He was in several of the Twin Peaks episodes, too. I know who Druxie is, but I'll let him tell you, should he come back little sheba.
-
I got up at nine, turned on the computer (the computer was feeling a little randy this morning), and then went back to bed and slept another hour. Go know.

The battery in my Internet thingamajig is running low.

Is it busy today, DR Sandra?

And the word of the day is: ARMILLARY!
This sounds like something that goes with the VCRiLarry.
:o
::)

Dan O'Herlihy played Grig in The Last Starfighter movie.
BK played Grig in The Last Starfighter musical.

Beware the iLarry.
Do not accept cheap imitations!

But on a happy note:

:)
A favorite musical of der B's and myself.
Although he can't seem to get Mandy's vocals out of his head, and didn't care as much for the London cast recording because of that. Myself, I thought Daniel Evans did a fine job.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
Outside the sky is blue. Inside the ceiling is beige. Is that a haiku?
I hope it's warmer outside than it is inside.
-
Will we never get to page six?
-
Following the discussion over at ATC with some interest.
Is it possible to render a stage musical successfully on film [admitedly, a completely different - and more realistic - medium] without using some sort of "gimmick" to explain away the singing?
I wonder...
-
Happy New Year's Eve day!
I don't think I will get a chance to post again today.
Last night I unexpectedly went to go see the movie ENCHANTED, which i liked very much. But because of that i have not gotten to see last night's TAR yet (which is unusual for me since it's my favorite show). Now i am over at my sister's house, and i will be spending the night. But i need to go play some game with her 7 yr old nephew who is calling me!
-
I just gave out a five-dollar bill that said ''Eat your vegetables'' on it.
Written by hand on a pre-existing bill, or in place of "In God We Trust"?
:-\

DR George,
I did not enjoy EVERYONE SAYS I LOVE YOU very much.
Yikes! I hadn't heard that. Thanks for the info.

Ooo! :D I never did watch this. I'll finally get a (take the) chance to. Thanks for posting!

The sun is out - the sky is blue. I think I will go out for a walk.
Why does that make me think of an episode of Brady Bunch
-
I am listening to Lawrence Welk.
Wunnerful, Wunnerful!
-
...and DR Francois ... and DR Dan the Man ... ?
I don't know about Dan (the Man), but François has deleted his profile. :-\
-
Something just happened.
{think Jaws here}
duh duh , duh duh, duh duh

PAGE SIX DANCE!!

I'm back from my break. I feel quite refreshed and ready to get back to the difficult task of sitting around.
Cherry Coke??

It's official:
DR Sandra has been unleashed on an unsuspecting public.
Alert the media!
Alert law enforcement!!
Alert the chef's hats union!
-
Wait a minute,.....
We have the media at our fingertips....
-
Good Afternoon!
The rugs have been vacuumed. The bathroom cleaned. The laundry washed, dried, fluffed and folded. And my bags packed.
:)
-
François has deleted his profile.
If a profile disappears, does that mean all the past posts go with it?

They don't call you "the fluffer" for nothing! ;)

BK CIRCA 1975
awwwww..... He looks so sweet and innocent!
-
awwwww..... He looks so sweet and innocent!
Looks can be deceiving. ;D
-
So, now I have a few hours to surf the web, catch up on some e-mails, watch some TV, etc., until Steve comes by to pick me up.
Hmm... Maybe a nice end of the year walk is in order. Hmm...
-
If a profile disappears, does that mean all the past posts go with it?
No, but there's no link to his profile. Just his name and "guest" underneath.
-
Really??
-
Welcome DRuxie!
-
I don't recall if DR George posted his reaction.
I have really enjoyed listening to this, also. I left it at home, but I may go there at lunch time to get it. I went to a friend's house last night and we talked about the German cast recording of Menken & Schwartz's Der Glöckner von Notre Dame. I had to get it out of the garage, and I'm listening to this right now. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE (that's three BIG LOVEs) this stage score. Why isn't there be an English language production?? (aside from the obvious...Disney's direct-to-video sequel :P)
-
Welcome DRuxie!
-
If a profile disappears, does that mean all the past posts go with it?
No.
-
Really??
Do you think he'd lie about it?
-
Why does that make me think of an episode of Brady Bunch
Because you watch too many re-runs?

Speaking of 1970s TV Movies and Shelley Winters ...
I highly recommend the TV movie A DEATH OF INNOCENCE (1971). Shelley plays a mother who travels to New York to see her daughter (Tisha Sterling) who is awaiting trial for murder. Totally convinced of her daughter's innocence, she does all she can to help her. As the trial progresses, however, she begins to have doubts. Shelley gives a beautiful understated performance.

This is what it looks like:

They're not named Todd and Lovett, are they?
;D

And since we're so close...
...break out the "Right Guard"!

Welcome, New DR Druxy! :)

I'm fixin' to go to the drug store for some Prilosec. It's been coming on gradually....but I think the holiday "feasting" has caught up to me.

Sigh!

Looks can be deceiving. ;D
BK WAS sweet. But I don't think that someone who wrote TFNM could exactly be called innocent. Eh?
-
Following the discussion over at ATC with some interest.
Is it possible to render a stage musical successfully on film [admitedly, a completely different - and more realistic - medium] without using some sort of "gimmick" to explain away the singing?
I wonder...
Well, they've been doing it for years - it's just NOW because no one has the guts to just DO it. Sweeney did it, Hairspray did it - Sweeney is not going to be a hit, Hairspray made its money back. But, as I've said many times, sit a young person down and show them The Music Man - nobody will question the singing, more than they'd question Spiderman or Daniel Craig as James Bond doing any of the stupidly impossible things they do. But so many young people today have their heads up their rectal cavities - they WILL accept these preposterous films that make now sense, defy every sort of logic, and which require king-size suspension of reality, but they can't accept a person singing in a film. It is to laugh.
-
Shayne, what on Earth is that picture from??? The only time I remember wearing glasses on TV was in an episode of Lucas Tanner, but I don't think that was from 1975. Do tell.
-

I just got that too many connections crap and lost a very long post. I am really annoyed right now, but I know if I write these creeps, they won't respond, or they'll say they just had to do something for a minute and that I shouldn't get into a huff.
What I said was that Francois is an enigma to me. He comes here, posts endlessly, then leaves for months, sometimes because of a perceived tiff with someone, sometimes not. This is the longest he's been gone, but I don't recall any sort of tiff this last time. I never understand why people do this, at least the ones who leave for good. We've lost a few, like former dear readers Jay and Dan-In-Toronto because of tiffs that didn't even involve them, but because one of the tiffers wrote to them and kvetched so much that they took sides, which is fine, but left in a show of something or other. But, people come, people go, like Grand Hotel. Nothing to be done about it. The disappearance of Rodzinski is stranger to me than all of it, frankly. TPunk comes and goes, but Rodzinski has seemingly disappeared for good, and for what reason is anyone's guess.

that's quite a lengthy leave. I do hope he rejoins us.

Bruce, I suspect that in many cases other things come up, they get busy, and soon it's off their radar.

It's been 2008 for nearly eight hours now. (Longer if you are a Hobbit).
No end of the world. Just thought I might give the DRs some reassurance!

Thank you, DR Tomovoz.
I am indeed reassured! :)

Re Jay and Dan: From my understanding from both the gentlemen in question, no-one wrote to them and kvetched!
I'm still in contact with DR Jay at times and in more frequent contact with DiT (who still lurks).
François has certainly not left this time because of a "Tiff" etc.
-
I miss Rodzinski and DRs Jed and Ann. I suspect that they are out there having a "Life". It's good to know that HHW filled in a gap for them when they were in need of it. They are younger than most of us here and are less likely to be "home" with a PC for Company.
-
I also had a very nice recent e from DiT, whose cousin is our former Rabbi. :)
-
Happy New Year, DR Tomovoz!

I guess the battery in DR Sandra's pocket internet gave out some time ago.

Thank you DR Ginny. Yes Virginia there is a 2008.
Also to DR George from last night!

Well, for those folk who griped that the marketing people at Warner's couldn't determine the market for SWEENEY TODD, I believe they will find the same quandary with THE WATER HORSE, a beautiful but very sad fantasy. The previews and newspaper ads, with the creature wearing a Santa hat, imply a lot of fun and siliness involving a sea creature, and nothing says a damned thing about the horrors of war, fathers who don't return, and intense violence committed against a creature they've led you to believe is friendly, cute and cuddly. There were too many terrified children at the 1:40 matinee and one monster of a grandmother who would not SHUT THE HELL UP and insisted on communicating with her grandchild at a decibel level everyone in the theatre could hear clearly during the bombings and explosions.
I loved the movie; it's two-hankie. I love Emily Watson, who was reunited with David Morissey from HILARY AND JACKIE, but I felt the movie short-shrifted us on several of the plot lines it was spinning.

I loved the movie too, and also sat there wondering about how all the World War II stuff would play out with the under 10-years old crowd and their parents. And even though some of the plot lines were never fully fleshed out, I did find the closing moments of the movie very touching, and unforced (surprisingly so) - which made me cry even more.
I'm sorry you had to deal with a grandmutha at your showing, but if you'd like to see it again... I'm back tomorrow. ;)

Re Jay and Dan: From my understanding from both the gentlemen in question, no-one wrote to them and kvetched!
I'm still in contact with DR Jay at times and in more frequent contact with DiT (who still lurks).
François has certainly not left this time because of a "Tiff" etc.
Despite what they may be saying to you, I know the facts and what went on during that time. Nothing to be concerned about anymore, but it IS the reason they left. Which, to my mind, is just plain silly, but that's me.
-
Time for me to head to work.
Yep, that's how I'm celebrating New Year's Eve. :-\
-
Still no word as to what that photograph is from.
-
...Then if it's "nothing to be concerned about anymore", then why bring it up at all?
Just continue to be thankful and happy for the people, the DRs - and the lurkers for that matter - who were here, who are here, and who will be dropping by in the future. And who may be coming back.
-
Always thankful. I occasionally bring it up because it baffles me and when I am baffled I bring it up, otherwise I will implode with bafflement.
Speaking of baffled, I have listened to the cast recording of Young Frankenstein. I was not quite perpared for its badness. Even though the booklet apparently would have you believe that Mr. Brooks is now in the company of Berlin and Porter, this is a really bad score. You can hear Glen Kelly trying to give life and cleverness to each arrangement, but it's for naught. You can also pretty much hear all the role models Mr. Brooks used for his tunes - it's a veritible Name That Tune. The lyrics are predictable but okay. Mr. Besterman is a decent orchestrator, but a record producer he isn't. As to the cast, I'm sure they all work hard on stage and I'm sure some of the deliver wonderfully, but on this album they don't. Does Miss Foster's accent really appear and disappear like that? Does Megan Mullally really sound like she was recorded at the wrong speed or is she auditioning to play Alvin the Chipmunk? Roger Bart seems lifeless. Andrea Martin is always fun, but here her material seems to fail her at almost every turn. The arrangement of Puttin' On The Ritz is, for me, awful. Certainly this is the most relentless cast album ever - it assualts the ear from start to finish.
-
It's a very pleasantly pleasant day here in the City of Studio.
-
At long last - page eight.
-
Yes, we noticed he wasn't around, but he always came back!
But why would François delete his profile. I assume that he's the only one, other than BK, who can do it.
-
I wonder if I shall watch a motion picture today, or if I shall just wile or while or wyle away the hours.
-
Perhaps I'll go see if I have any mail at the mail place - last chance for mail in 2007.
-
My favourite thing that happened to me this year was getting back into theatre full force. Though I actually returned to the boards in fall of 2006 in THE UNDERPANTS (my performance referred to as "impeccable"). February and March found me playing Orgon in TARTUFFE which I had also translated and adapted. Both performance and writing were praised ("Charles Edward Pogue is nothing short of brilliant"..."A first-rate adaptation...Pogue's language sparkles with color and is ripe with clever crispness, making versatile leaps from theological discourse to the basest of double entendres..."). This fall I received accolades for my "robustly flawed" Claudius in HAMLET. This January issue of AMERICAN THEATRE will feature an article about the production with a photo of me and Hamlet in the prayer scene.
Julieanne is currently in rehearsals for David Mamet's BOSTON MARRIAGE. And I will be playing Ben Hecht in this spring's production of MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS, an account of David Sleznick locking Hecht and Victor Fleming in his office for a week while they re-wrote GONE WITH THE WIND. My TARTUFFE will be done this summer in San Francisco by the African-American Shakespeare Company.
Tonight Julieanne and I will have our usual quiet New Year's Eve, just us and the pets snuggled together with a bottle of Procescco (which I prefer to champagne), watching all these award screeners of the latest fillms we've amassed.
HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE & ALL!
-
I saw the cast album of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN at Best Buy when I was there. I had it in my hands, but put it back. I thought I could do better price-wise, and I'm not desperate to hear it frankly. Maybe later.
-
This may come as a New Year's Eve shock, but I didn't watch ANYTHING this afternoon!
Yep, you heard it right, DRs, I wasn't home to watch a thing, and my friend John didn't have the TV on at his house either as we did various errands around the neighborhood (I did a quick calibration of a neighbor's TV), and then went to eat lunch.
-
Our first shopping place was Target where I had a gift card to spend (he had some full frame DVDs to return and exchange for widescreen versions). It was crowded (so was every other place we went this afternoon.)
-
Next was a quick walk-through of CompUSA which is going out of business nationwide. Everything was still just 10-15% off (not enough), but I really didn't need anything anyway. Just wandering the ailes (probably for the last time) bringing back memories of many shopping trips there through the years.
-
Next, we stopped by Office Depot to pick up some things for John's office that had been preordered, so we really did no real shopping there. In and out quickly.
-
I ordered the Young Frankestein (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XH7GHU) cast album last night. I was in a buying mood. ;) I actually ordered six different recordings last night. Except for YF and Dream True (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FWH1NM), the rest were from Amazon Marketplace sellers and cost a LOT less than from Amazon directly. :D
-
We ended the afternoon of shopping at Best Buy where I had a couple of gift cards. Used one up and spent about half of the other, but got some good deals. I still have what's left on that card and another one for Best Buy.
-
I did get THE NAKED PREY in the mail today, so I'll be watching it tonight (for the first time). That should be an interesting evening of viewing.
-
I assume AS THE WORLD TURNS was on today, but I won't find out for sure until I go back downstairs later and check about that Jerry Herman PBS special.

This may come as a New Year's Eve shock, but I didn't watch ANYTHING this afternoon!
the tremor you felt was me hitting the floor!
I'm trying to decide what to watch tonight: Kathy Griffin, Strauss' opera SALOME with Teresa Stratas, or the Royal Ballet performing NUTCRACKER or SYLVIA. Hmmm . . .

Well, nothing like a Socialist for no sense of humor or, frankly, a good sense of literature: Berg's LULU, which ends with, but wasn't inspired by, Jack the Ripper, is a condensed adaptation of Frank Wedekind's two LULU plays, which he doesn't mention! Nor does he mention the great film of the plays, PANDORA'S BOX, with Louise Brooks. Or did I miss that?

Larry there was a TV report last night on a "lost" opera - Helene -written for Nellie Melba (Saint-Saens) - it is to be recorded here next month. The opera will possibly be staged in Vienna. I've already forgotten the name of the young Australian Tenor who will be on the recording. He is doing well in Vienna and opened the La Scala season to great aclaim.

Question for the NYC HHWers...
Have any of you ever gone to Times Sqaure to ring in the New Year?
I've done New Year's Eve in Times Square just once before. -WOW! -And I just checked the IMDB to see which year it was... Back in 1991! -Oh, and I guess it was more like "near" Times Square since I was actually in the Ziegfeld catching a late show of "The Prince of Tides". -New Year's Eve in NYC watching a Barbara Streisand Movie - Can I be any more gay? ;) (No need to answer that question.)
I had driven my friend, Mark, and his partner up from DC that afternoon. They were visiting from LA, and were planning on spending a couple of days in NYC during that trip. We actually left DC around 8:00 in the morning, however, we had to make a stop at Mark's mother's house... Then we had to make a stop here... Then there... Etc., etc., etc... We didn't hit the Lincoln Tunnel around 5:30... We exited the Lincoln Tunnel around 7:15. UGH!
We ended up meeting up with some friends for a very good Mexican dinner at Mesa Grill - which had just opened earlier that year. -And that was long before Bobby Flay's profile and popularity and increased - along with the menu prices at MG.
None of had any real plans for that night, but we all knew we really didn't want to deal with all the madness of Times Square - especially after the long trip up from DC. So, we somehow decided to see "The Prince of Tides". The late show.
-And, yes, sometime in the in the middle of the movie, lots of people started whispering "Happy New Year".
Once we got out of the movie... WHOA! I don't think I've ever seen that much "mess" anywhere. Of course, we tried to walk through Times Square, but since we didn't have hotel keys with us - and none of us lived in the area - we had to walk up and around to get back to the subways. OH! And that was also the night that the subway fares changed. At midnight! -None of our tokens - remember those? - worked anymore.
In any case, it was a memorable New Year's Eve, if not the most enjoyable. ;)
*And I still remember being amazed the next morning when we headed back down to Times Square, and it seemed like everything was back to normal. Those City Sanitation Workers really do know how to clean up after a party!
-
Jose - They're closing down the area???
I haven't left the building since yesterday. Not even to go to the pie shop :)
I think you and Skip live far enough West not to be that affected by the street closures. However, if you find that you need to head out later, be sure to have some sort of ID on you that has your home address on it so that the police will let you in and out of the "area". -That is if you head out between 11:30pm and 2:00am - I think that's the window of "limited access". -You could also carry a party invitation with you too - as long as the person's address is on it.
-And I think the Pie Shop closed early today anyway. ;)

the 1935 auction catalogue in which Clifford Herbert put up for sale the original full scores to BABES IN TOYLAND. Part of today and tomorrow, I will try to assemble a history of how the materials ended up at the Library of Congress.

That's the story of my eBay wns when the shipper uses lousy Media Mail! Unfortunately, Clifford cared less about the score and more about the money he would get from the auction. The BABES score went for $900 in 1935.

Shayne, what on Earth is that picture from??? The only time I remember wearing glasses on TV was in an episode of Lucas Tanner, but I don't think that was from 1975. Do tell.
It was from your second appearance on Happy Days February 15, 1975
The Howdy Doody Show where you played Mark the editor of the school newspaper. You played a worthy adversary to Richie Cunningham. Too bad they never brought you back.

Question for the NYC HHWers...
Have any of you ever gone to Times Sqaure to ring in the New Year?
I was there for the year 1978 turning into 1979. . .or was it 1977 turning to 1978? ? ?
Oh! it was the latter, 'cos I saw PETE'S DRAGON at Radio City Music Hall on that trip.
Had a standing spot up close, and wonder of wonders, a good friend of mine back home, who hadn't really known I was in NYC, spotted me on one of the channels broadcasting - she described what I was wearing (a camel colored coat with dark fur collar) and the people right next to me (a red-headed tall woman and a dusky blonde woman, shorter than the red head).
I just found the whole thing fascinating in that the whole of Times Square empties so quickly once the ball has dropped and "Auld Lang Syne" has been sung. . .
-
Welcome, DR Druxy! I hope you will visit often.
-
Perhaps you should drop your ball earlier.
Believe you me, you're not the first to suggest it! :P
-
GOOD MORNING ALL!
Oh, and Vixmom, try to keep your skirt on this year!
-
Wow George! I can see why you were so excited last night.
;D ;D ;D

As for the Topic of the Day...
You didn't mention your time at the reservoir, or is that covered under the sentence, Continuing my relationship with various casting agents and musical directors/conductors...?
-
Love the hat, DR TCB!!!!
-
I don't recall if DR George posted his reaction.
I assume the score is also played in German. Otherwise, I guess you wouldn't know what you were listening to.
-
You know, I don't think I've seen that episode (which has Howdy Doody in it) since it first aired. I've seen the poker one a lot - are they on the same DVD - I wonder if I have it?
-
And I think I shot that episode before the poker one, but maybe not.
-
Happy New Year all!
I had to work today and just got home a little while ago. We got off a bit early but I had to drop by the tire repair place.
I’ve been noticing that my right rear tire has been a slow leaker or the past few weeks. I would fill it with air and then two weeks later, it needed more. The place I always used to go to isn’t open on the weekends any more and closes at five during the week making it very hard to get to.
I took a chance since I was off early to drop by and they were open. It turned out I had picked up a screw and that was causing the leak. I have no idea as to when or where that happened but its fixed now. It didn’t cost much—just twelve dollars.
I don’t think I’ll be up for New Year. I’ve been up since five and I rarely make it past nine as it is.
I honesty don’t really feel much like celebrating anyway.
Someone is already shooting off fireworks outside and the dogs are scared. They're curled around my feet. Poor babies. They don't understand the meaning of all that noise.

I will implode with bafflement.

Welcome ten GUESTS. I wonder if one them is... nah.
I'm about to head out for an early dinner, after which I shall return to begin our Rockin' New Year's Eve partay.

Please...don't get DR RLP started! :P

Gee, my e-mail from Nancy Pelosi today says she needs me to donate $33,512.00 before midnight tonight so the Democrats can reach their goal for the year.
What does she think I am - a Republican?
-
Re Jay and Dan: From my understanding from both the gentlemen in question, no-one wrote to them and kvetched!
I'm still in contact with DR Jay at times and in more frequent contact with DiT (who still lurks).
François has certainly not left this time because of a "Tiff" etc.
But does anyone know what happened to Dan the Man?
-
I'm sorry you had to deal with a grandmutha at your showing, but if you'd like to see it again... I'm back tomorrow. ;)
Shouldn't someone contact the Mayor?

What a wonderful year, Mr Pogue! Continued success. Richly deserved. Happy New Year.

And for an interesting(!) review of "Sweeney Todd", here's one that was just posted on the Sondheim listserv from the World Socialist Web Site:

I did get THE NAKED PREY in the mail today, so I'll be watching it tonight (for the first time). That should be an interesting evening of viewing.

He told me he was getting busy at work and needed to take a break.

the tremor you felt was me hitting the floor!
I'm trying to decide what to watch tonight: Kathy Griffin, Strauss' opera SALOME with Teresa Stratas, or the Royal Ballet performing NUTCRACKER or SYLVIA. Hmmm . . .
Where are my bifocals? I thought you wrote you were going to watch Kathy Griffin's Strauss' opera SALOME. That would be something.

I also had a very nice recent e from DiT, whose cousin is our former Rabbi. :)
And former founding Rabbi of a temple here in Ashland.

"How pale the moon is, like a woman rising from a tomb"
"Your mouth is like a scarlet sash on an ivory tower"
"Your mouth is like a pomegranate sliced by a silver blade"
Much as I love THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, Oscar Wilde's decadent purple prose in SALOME, in English or in German, is an ordeal. Teresa Stratas is beautiful, petite, in an amazing performance, running from innocent virgin to coked-out ho in a ridiculous "Dance of the Seven Veils" and 90 minutes of the most overripe dialogue written by man. When she finally goes bonkers and the music goes bitonal, she looks like Vivien Leigh trying to get out of TOVARICH and then they kill her. The opera also includes a hot young soldier in love with Salome who kills himself for her, the page boy who loves him, Salome's evil mother who looks more butch than the soldier and her pedophilic stepfather Herod. Jokanaan aka John the Baptist looks like Sasquatch and Salome slobbers all over him. It was like a family reunion on God's Little Acre. I think it's time for some Offenbach now, perhaps LA PERICHOLE from Aix-en-Provence.
-
I'm sorry you had to deal with a grandmutha at your showing,
Me too.
If you go again, wait until the children have returned to school.

Or Ercole, straight from your VCR! :D

Almost time I watched the wondeful "A Man Of No Importance" again.

I am on a snark hunt for an old Paul Mauriat album I know I had which I am positive had both "Je T'aime...moi non plus" and "Sweet Charity" on it, but internet searching has been futile. Yes, I am using my first free day in two months wisely. ;)

T.O.D.
Hmm, well, health-wise, this hasn't been a great year. Come to think of it, health-wise, none of my years have been very good lately.
Best moment of the year was seeing PHANTOM in Las Vegas, and then going backstage to talk to Brent Barrett. That man is beautiful! It may not sound right to say that, but let me tell you, when that man smiles at you - He Is Beautiful!!! Also, getting the poster back in the mail from Brent signed by everyone in the cast was also great.
I wanted to keep all of the e-mails Brent sent me, but since DR elmore had already warned him that I was a stalker, I thought it best to destroy the evidence!
Looking back over the rest of the year, I think most of my memorable moments were spent right here, with all of you. Thank you.

Julieanne and I just had a lovely dinner and some sparkling wine and now we're taking a brief nap before we get to our movie-watching. I think we're about a year away from an Old Fogey's New Year...which is basically having a cup of warm cocoa, a slice of buttered toast, and going to bed at eight-thirty, finding a comfy warm bed more welcoming than watching the ball drop at midnight.
Julieanne says hi and we miss you B.K.
-
Jane, I am giggling here about that news story

WTF is Druxy? Did this person actually post or is it one more made up name from the internet? Our newest member 10 minutes ago was toyota!

Question for the NYC HHWers...
Have any of you ever gone to Times Sqaure to ring in the New Year?
We're not New Yorkers, but 25 years ago tonight DH Richard and I were on the northern fringes of Times Square in front of our hotel at 7th Ave. and 51st. Looking south, we could see the ball drop, but were not in the huge crush of people (fine with us). Looking north, we enjoyed the fireworks display over Central Park.
-

Yes, elmore, Druxy posted once this morning. He / She said they had been a good friend of Dan O'Herlihy, and that they missed him.

Back from a small Eyetalian dinner and am now in for the evening and so begins our Rockin' New Year's Eve partay. I cannot believe singdaw is fading fast at ten o'clock. Hopefully he'll get his second wind.
-
And now that I've cleared my throat... ;)
Good evening!
I'm over at Steve's right now, watching and listening to the New York Philharmonic on "Live from Lincoln Center" - they're finishing up with Ravel's "Bolero".
We ended up having dinner at the Peking (http://www.pekingrestaurants.com/) in downtown Richmond. We had tried to order a whole fried fish, but our waitress mumbled something about it taking 40 minutes to prepare and that we had to call ahead. ??? However, she did recommend the General Tso's Fish from their list of daily specials. And it turned out to be quite a wonderful recommendation. Basically, it was pieces of red snapper lightly breaded and fried, and then done up General Tso's style. Very good, and the fish seemed very fresh too.
For dessert, we just came back here for some Breyer's Butter Almond Ice Cream. :)
*Oh, and since Steve still had some money left on his Peking Gift Card, the whole meal only cost us $4.00! :)
-
I've got lots of the bubbly waiting (bubbly as in Diet Coke) and I'm trying to decide if there's a movie I'd like to watch, or if I'll just wander from room to room.
-
I miss the Pogues, too.
-
I've a little full of food right now.
-
Will we never get to page fourteen?
-
Did you all eat, or will you be snacking during the partay. I have a few Almond Rocas left.

My mother's recipe for hiccup removal is a glass of water with a knife in it. Exactly.

I'm right here, Bruce. But I'm blonde, remember?? ;)

Quite right, TCB.
-
Well, shoot! That certainly altered a few fantasies! :(
I had no idea there was an international standard for such things ;D
-
Where's Brownie with the light blue jeans?
Be wary of the full sensation from din-din, Bruce, that's what will make you logey and turn your rockin' News Year's Eve into a rolling New Year's Eve...rolling right over on the couch for a nice somnabulistic Snooze Year's Eve.
I found a box of eight small Christmas crackers. If the lovely wife and I each use one tonight, that means we'll have enough for three more New Year's Eves. Whoopee! I wouldn't allow her to buy noise-makers today. I told her at my age, just eating the dinner I ate tonight will activate my built in noise-maker to ring in the New Year!
New Year's just ain't New Year's without Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians. Is Dick Clark making the scene or is that over?

Shall we all discuss who we think is favored and in which Bowl games?

In honor of tonight's New Year's bash, I had a very BK dinner, Mac 'n' Cheese.
And I'm stuffed. After that double serving I had of Black Forest Cake at Christmas I decided to go on a sort of cleanse--light meals. And now a normal-sized meal really fills me up.

I saw SWEENEY TODD tonight, but I didn't see SWEENEY TODD.
What does that mean?
Well......we got to the very end of the movie and everyone was down in the cellar and the fire was blazing and Sweeney had just made a discovery....there was a closeup of his blood stained face.....the movie stopped, the lights came up....and everyone sat there.
Then a girl with a badge on came in and said that they could not continue the movie but we would be given a ticket good for a future movie....but not tonight.
Some of the other movies in the multiplex were also sent home....so who knows?

Too bad I watched Fail Safe last night - that's an excellent New Year's Eve motion picture.
-
This is the last political thing I will post in 2007
-
Do you want to know how it ends?

No....no spoilers please. ;D Surely they changed the ending from the stage version. 8)
-
Druxy is actually Francis Farmer?
-
I saw SWEENEY TODD tonight, but I didn't see SWEENEY TODD.
Well, give us a some partial feedback anyway. I'm convinced some of the reviewers saw a different film than I saw.
-
I have been watching the Aztec Mummy series.....
-
Well, I was wrong. This may be the year for the Old Fogey New Year's Eve. The Lovely Wife dozes on my office couch while I tap out little messages here. We were going to watch There Will Be Blood. Somehow I don't think that'll be happening tonight. We've also got a nice freezing rain coming down and Tewkes needs one more walk.
-
DR JRand - That's very interesting and intriguing. I wonder if the stoppage will be newsworthy.
Is there a chance that you could just go back and ask to see the final five minutes of the movie? ;)
-
Page 15 Aztec Mummy Dance.
Obviously not wrapped too tight.

No....no spoilers please. ;D Surely they changed the ending from the stage version. 8)
Well, that chorus of Tap Dancing Meat Pies sure is something to see!
-
Raining and thundering and lightning here, too, DR CP. But we expect three inches of snow before morning.
DR JOSE - I doubt it will be newsworthy....time will tell. My guess is that the staff wanted to go home.
-
Well, that chorus of Tap Dancing Meat Pies sure is something to see!
I knew it. I KNEW IT!!!!! ;D
-
Methinks TCB is in good form tonight.
I hope that means he's feeling better.

Didn't MBarnum date that guy?
-
I have been watching the Aztec Mummy series.....
To my great joy, I picked up the 50 pack of "Warrior" DVDs. All those old Hercules, Ursus, Sampson, and Eye-talian muscleman movies.
-
Methinks TCB is in good form tonight.
I hope that means he's feeling better.
Actually, it means I am back on my pain pills, but yes, I beleive I am recovering FINALLY.

Didn't know it was out....I shall peruse AMAZON. 8)
I hope everyone exceeds International Standards. :o
-
TCB, did you work today? I’m sorry if I missed that.
My New Year wish for you is for a VERY HEALTHY 2008!!!
-
This site is scary:
http://www.drkrm.com/mex1.html (http://www.drkrm.com/mex1.html)
-
DR CP did you happen to see any episodes of the AMC series MAD MEN this year?
-
We keep forgetting tonight is New Year's Eve-lol. We aren't doing anything unusual & going to bed early. I only got a few hours of sleep last night, don't want to repeat that tonight.
The highlight of my/our year, is that Sherlock is moving like a dog his age should.
-
Didn't MBarnum date that guy?
Is it true that archeologists date mummys?
-
'night all, have a very happy New Year!
-
TCB, did you work today? I’m sorry if I missed that.
My New Year wish for you is for a VERY HEALTHY 2008!!!
Well, let's just say that I went into the office today. Very little work was done by the six of us who were there.
Thank you for the good wishes, Jane. The same to you, Keith, and little Sherlock.
-
Archaeologists date ANYTHING, DR TCB....from what I've heard.
-
WOW - 50 movies......I may order this little item. I have several of them on other collections, but some are new! New to me!
-
Archaeologists date ANYTHING, DR TCB....from what I've heard.
So, there is still hope for me?
-
TAR lost a good team last night. I was hoping they would be in the final three. I am trying to find another team to really root for....or one I would really miss if it is eliminated next week.....
-
So, there is still hope for me?
I will see if mine has a brother...IF mine ever materializes. :D
-
Actually, it means I am back on my pain pills, but yes, I beleive I am recovering FINALLY.
I do hope so, albeit incomplete.
-
Going out in the cold to go to places where hundreds of people are jammed into a small space and made to wait there for hours is taking it's toll. I had the chills all day today and now I have a sore throat. I have take Airborne for 3 days, I am taking large quantities of Ester C and am in my recliner under a warm fleece blanket. I may have to have a big cup of tea soon.
-
Archaeologists date ANYTHING, DR TCB....from what I've heard.
;D
-
We're trying to catch up on that, too.
I have just finished LOST's finest hour, "The Man Behind the Curtain." So much to think about, that I do believe I'll hold off on the remaining episodes until tomorrow and plug in GYPSY for my New Year's Eve viewing pleasure.
-
Didn't MBarnum date that guy?
Will date that guy.
-
Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd
The movie stopped so the ending's odd
They said come back on a different day
What happened they haven't permission to say
It cost the theater quite a wad
Did Swee......

Uh oh....Miz Drysdale has an ailing hibiscus.

I think a critter may have found its way into my attic. A squirrel, most likely. I've asked Marvelous Matt to cme over one day and do an inspection.
Anyone had animals in their houses and, if so, what did you do?

I think a critter may have found its way into my attic. A squirrel, most likely. I've asked Marvelous Matt to cme over one day and do an inspection.
Anyone had animals in their houses and, if so, what did you do?
My parents had a family of raccoons in their attic. After my mother cursed and even ran outside in the middle of the night to curse at them, they still didn't leave, so she called someone who live trapped them and took them out in the country somewhere or the woods or somewhere and released them. Then she had the hole they came in fixed
the first time I had a bat in my house, I got my neighbor to get it out.
the second time I had a bat in my house, I screamed bloody murder, finally caught him and threw him out the window where he flew away.
the third time I had a bat in my house, the cats killed it in about 2 seconds flat.
-
"Fritters In The Attic"
I think that was a Homer & Jethro song.
-
This is a pretty cool tribute to Ella Fitzgerald. I guess I should go ahead and finally unwrap and listen to the CD I bought a few months ago that was produced in conjunction with this special.
-
Did Jeanne say she had fritters in her attic?
Critters, Fred, critters. Actually, only one, hopefully.
-
Hmm... The CD, apparently, is not a recording of the live show. Hmm... But there is a DVD available. Hmmm...

oooohh. that does sound good. I've always loved Ella.

Fritters in the attic

Critters on the A-tack
And they're comin' after you.
So load the gun with buckshot
An' grab another chew
Ya gotta show 'em what's what
There's nothin' else to do.
-
Did Wrestling Women Vs. The Aztec Mummy ever come out on DVD via Image Entertainment? I have check discs on it and several other Mexican horror films, but I'd heard there was some problem and that they might not be released.
-
I am having trouble with my metre.
-
Well, I'm not surprised. If you have fritters in your attic, fritters are known to attract a squirrel or two.
(laugh track cackles uncontrollably)
-
What a partay. Already to page sixteen, and it's the shank of the evening, oh, yes, it's the shank of the evening. I would not want to watch There Will Be Blood on New Year's Eve. Of course, if it's playing with Sweeney Todd on a double bill, the marquee will read Sweeney Todd There Will Be Blood.
-
I heard Keith laughing in the other room, then he sent me link (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/6161691.stm)
I hope DR MBarnum won't find this news too upsetting.
Well, I guess the Hindu appellation John Abraham is English for Princess Tinymeat.
DR MBarnum, all I can say is, dream on, Alice, and find a new Wonderland.
-
I'm having a bit of the Diet Coke bubbly. I'm still digesting.

I gotta tell you.
-
Will we never get to page seventeen? I'm watching Les Demoiselles De Rochefort - I never tire of this surreal film.
-
And conversely, this surreal film never tires of me.
-
I do recall Cillaliz's stories about the bats now. I had a bat once. Long ago and far away...I bought a house in San Diego County. It was on a hillside, on a lovely 2-lane road. The City decided the road needed to be wider and, in the process of expansion, cut down many trees. Lots of wildlife live in trees. One was the Bat Who Came to Visit. He flew into my bedroom. It really freaked me out. I couldn't persuade him to leave. Eventually a friend came over and got him. It was not a pleasant experience.

Nobody knows anything about her, but her name is Vendetta and she comes from France.

DR CILLA LIZ is the caucus on Thursday?
-
Did Jeanne say she had fritters in her attic?
Critters! Out by the cee-ment pond.
-
I'd like a nice bowl of surreal but I'm stuffed from trying to finish the Grater's ice cream before the guests get here.
-
No, I do not place fritters in the attic. I'm told that the Critter Control people use peanut butter to bait the guys.
-
To hell with SWEENEY TODD - now THIS is a movie:
"Well, I think we'd better be careful. What if that stupid mummy has fits and undresses. Who knows what he has beneath his clothes!"
-
No, I do not place fritters in the attic. I'm told that the Critter Control people use peanut butter to bait the guys.
*hits head*
Damn I've been using the wrong bait! ;D
-
All this talk of Graeter's ice cream makes me salivate for chocolate ice cream. Yum. Except that I'm trying to avoid all that stuff.
-
I have done Times Square once. I was a very little boy and was completely at the mercy of the crushing crowds and holding on for dear life to my uncle's hand. I also remember that it was unbelievably cold. This was 1958, I believe.
-
Hello and a happy New Years Eve to all!
We're going out to run an errand---we're celebrating by hanging our curtains!
Do we know how to live or what?
-

I tried to get a bat to fly in my window one time. I was hoping it might turn into Frank Langella. Or course, when I was married to the old bat, I tried to throw her out the window.
-
Actually I have been working on a screeplay about people who live in glass houses. The working title is THE NAKED PRAY.
They must be religious.
-
Did Dakota leave us? Oh that's right, her boyfriend is pulling out at midnight.
-
LA PERICHOLE was quite delightful but it was a broadcast from Geneva, not Aix-en-Provence. Maria Ewing, then Mrs Peter Hall, is quite funny, sort of like Imogene Coca playing Carmen, with excellent French. Her leading man was quite funny and very handsome. DR MBarnum might have abandoned Bollywood for Neil Rosenshein.
One strange moment: when the viceroy's soldiers are hunting down Perichole and Piquillo, why are the Peruvian soldiers all wearing breastplates and tutus? Sometimes these Eurotrash productions irk me.
-
Did Dakota leave us? Oh that's right, her boyfriend is pulling out at midnight.
That's a euphemism?
-
I have done Times Square once. I was a very little boy and was completely at the mercy of the crushing crowds and holding on for dear life to my uncle's hand. I also remember that it was unbelievably cold. This was 1958, I believe.
that sounds like a rather frightening experience.

Very!
-
DR CILLA LIZ is the caucus on Thursday?
Yes.
-
DR MATTH - The Naked Prey has some very disturbing images that have haunted me since I saw it 40 years ago.
-
Yes.
It will be MOST interesting.
-
Try dancing while hanging the curtains:
Hang your curtains
Step in time
Hang your curtains
Step in time
Have a little shnapps with a little bit of lime
Hang your curtains
Step in time
-
It doesn't look like Sing got his second wind.
-
Wind chill will be -20 tomorrow, but by Thursday it will be in the 30s again. Can't wait.
-
My goodness I'm logey.
-
I'm dancing the Continental whilst eating an Almond Roca.
-
Safe travels to DR DC's BF.
-
Or, ST to DR DC's BF.
-
The logey is one flight up, but the movie's been stopped for technical reasons.
-
I'm so festive. So, FJL is expecting GUESTS? They throw more partays than the Pope.
-
I'm logey,
Oh, so logey,
So logey, and _____, and __________.
-
Less than an hour until the East Coast New Year - however, it doesn't really count so we'll see how many of our hainsies/kimlets (and GUESTS) tough it out for the real New Year's ball drop - and let me tell you the balls will drop here at haineshisway.com.
-
The logey is one flight up, but the movie's been stopped for technical reasons.

DR MATTH - The Naked Prey has some very disturbing images that have haunted me since I saw it 40 years ago.
So that is the same The Naked Prey movie that I was remembering? With Cornel Wilde? Now, that is someone our Mr. Barnum would have liked!
-
Hmm... The Jerry Herman doesn't seem to be on tonight here in Richmond. However, that all-star tribute to Ella Fitzgerald is. :)
In our araea, it comes on tomorrow night at 9:30. I've already set the DVR to record it in case I'm busy watching something else, or if I just plain forget about it.
Happily, it's going to be on one of the HD PBS stations! That made me very happy.
-
I'm getting high on Diet Coke and the Continental and Les Demoiselles De Rochefort.
-
Well the girls are extremely wound up. I'm expecting them to come down the stairs at any time with little tiny party hats and little 2008 eyeglasses
-
So that is the same The Naked Prey movie that I was remembering? With Cornel Wilde? Now, that is someone our Mr. Barnum would have liked!
Freaky deaky movie coming out on Criterion in January....
-
The logey is one flight up, but the movie's been stopped for technical reasons.
Damn....
-
So that is the same The Naked Prey movie that I was remembering? With Cornel Wilde? Now, that is someone our Mr. Barnum would have liked!
And Mr. Wilde was born in 1915, so almost the right age. Is breathing one of Mike's criteria?

There was a lot of Mr. Wilde to see in that movie, IIRC.

Would work too if it is fried real deep

The wind chill index is already to -2 Naked Prey would have some real problems here

*anti chill vibes for Cilla in the new year!!
-
So that is the same The Naked Prey movie that I was remembering? With Cornel Wilde? Now, that is someone our Mr. Barnum would have liked!
Yep, Wilde was 54 when he made the movie and easily looks ten years younger, at least at the start. By the end, well, he's been through the proverbial ringer.
-
Schawarma.
-
What a roomful of people we've got.
-
The wind chill index is already to -2 Naked Prey would have some real problems here
He would be part Eastern Indian, that's fer shur! :o
-
And Mr. Wilde was born in 1915, so almost the right age. Is breathing one of Mike's criteria?
Hmmm. The commentator on the disc said he was born in 1912 (same year as my father). I guess a few years don't matter one way or another. He looks really great in the film.
-
Skip is at a party a few flights up. He says he'll be back before midnight. I'm keepin' an eye on the vittels to make sure the dogs don't eat them.
-
I walk away for 2 seconds and it is page 18 - what page will we get to tonight?
-
We'll reach page
eighteen nineteen in no time at all.
-
I suppose we have to post extra for all the missing DR's.
-
I'm logey,
Oh, so logey,
So logey, and _____, and __________.
"fogey" and "old". (a la DR Pogue)
-
Hello Bruce!
-
I began my evening by checking for AS THE WORLD TURNS. You folks were right: it wasn't on today, and it isn't on tomorrow either.
-
I am so tired, i want to go to bed!
I just came to hide out in the computer room for a few minutes of peace.
The adults are all downstairs playing the new Wii and screaming (boxing or bowling i think). The kids were up in my sister's bedroom watching Ryan Seacrest. And it all very loud!
Well my sister's niece just came in here as her punishment (she did something to her brother). And she looked at a picture of BK and said, "who is that?" :)
-
Sounds like you are having a lovely partay here.
-
TOMOVOZ,
My apologies for not wishing you a HAPPY NEW YEAR at the appropriate time.
-
Proverbial wringer.
-
Schawarma.
Lamb or Chicken? without of without falafel?
-
I wager we will get to Page 16 tonight.
-
As I was flipping through channels, I landed on one of the HBO channels that was showing DREAMGIRLS, and I watched through the end of the the Dreamettes backing up Jimmy Early. I know I had other things to watch, but I decided then and there that I'd be watching the movie tonight.
-
I feel logey
Oh so logey
That a hoagy could put me to sleep

Very good!

My grandmother had one of those.
-
I have no idea as to what time it is in North America.
I am so "over" 2007
Happy New Year Everyone.
(Thanks DR Jeanne)
-
Yes, it's a lovely partay. Invite your friends and let's really get this jernt jumping.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
I'm over Almond Roca right now.
-
Oh My God! People watch "Dreamgirls" by choice. Of course they watch "Legally Blonde" by choice too.
-
I could use some Wrestling Women, just for the halibut.
-
Page 19!!!
-
You know, I don't think I've seen that episode (which has Howdy Doody in it) since it first aired. I've seen the poker one a lot - are they on the same DVD - I wonder if I have it?
The Howdy Doody episode is from season 2 episode 33. The poker one is from season 1 episode 10.
These episodes were filmed and not video taped.
Here is a shot from the poker scene
-
I think last year my neighbor across the street had a big partay, but it's quiet as can be over there.
-
Oh My God! People watch "Dreamgirls" by choice. Of course they watch "Legally Blonde" by choice too.
I do. I love it. Sorry you don't.
-
The adults are all downstairs playing the new Wii and screaming (boxing or bowling i think).
If they can't tell the difference, it could be why they're screaming.
-
Shayne, do I have all these photos? If not, can you send me a couple of good shots - I'm printing some up for the Courts show and am especially interested in Partridge (which I think you sent), and Happy Days, but I'd think shots with Ronny and the regulars would do best.
-
I have to say, it's nice hearing Natalie Cole SING again. And Patti Austin looks and sounds great too!
-
I went ahead and watched THE NAKED PREY. It's a very entertaining movie, and the Criterion presents the beautiful Panavision photography gloriously. Of course, when stock footage and second unit photography is inserted into the main footage, it sticks out glaringly. I'm sure some of that stuff wasn't shot with a Panavision camera, so it's cropped and blown up to fit the frame. Really looks, grainy, soft, and ugly compared to the principal photography.
-
In one take the dog's cards fell over and I ad-libbed, "What are you, an idiot - don't show people your cards."
-
So where is DR Cason? Or is he pulling out at midnight, too?
-
Grainy And Soft - that's the title of my next novel.
-
Shayne, do I have all these photos? If not, can you send me a couple of good shots - I'm printing some up for the Courts show and am especially interested in Partridge (which I think you sent), and Happy Days, but I'd think shots with Ronny and the regulars would do best.
Do you still call him Ronny? To his face?
-
Cason is all horny for his new girlfriend and can't be bothered with the likes of us.
-
Last I saw him was backstage at the tour of Showboat some years ago - I called him Ron, I think. He called me Ronny.
-
After the movie, I went back and listened to the first 30 minutes of the commentary. I didn't look at the commentator's name, but he really loves the film. I liked it a lot, and it's unusual with the drum music track and lack of dialogue after the 20-minute mark except for the Frcian dialect which isn't subtitled. Lots of interesting decisions made by Wilde in producing this film.
-
Cason is all horny for his new girlfriend and can't be bothered with the likes of us.
Well, you and I will remember this come spring, won't we BK?
-
I'm feeling so very festive and yet we've got three and a half hours to go.
-
He's not such a great player, every time he gets a good hand, he wags his tail.
-
Last I saw him was backstage at the tour of Showboat some years ago - I called him Ron, I think. He called me Ronny.
Ahhh, much better.
-
*anti chill vibes for Cilla in the new year!!
Thanks Adriana..
-
Well, time to turn on the TV...
I'll be back in 2008. ;)
-
Then I put in the Blu-ray of DREAMGIRLS and began where I had left off with the HBO version. Such an entertaining movie.
-
Thanks Adriana..
Health vibes to Cillaliz.

RONNY AND THE REGULARS - that's the name of the group I'm forming to promote the prune danish franchise
-
Happy Belated New Year to DR TOMovOZ.
Less than 30 minutes for us here in EST.
-
My grandmother had one of those.
My mother had one. But that was a looong time ago.
-
I'm very lucky that Dreamworks was still releasing films on Blu-ray when DREAMGIRLS was issued. They since (along with Paramount) went to exclusive HD-DVD releases (well, for 18 months; that's the term of their monetary agreement with Microsoft).
-
RONNY AND THE REGULARS - that's the name of the group I'm forming to promote the prune danish franchise
Did they used to be Ronny and the IRREGULARS?
Just asking. ;D
-
I'll have a glass of prune juice, to go
-
28 minutes to go here. I fixed myself a Blue Whale (oh, Mary, don't ask, an Emory reference from THE BOYS IN THE BAND).
-
RONNY AND THE REGULARS - that's the name of the group I'm forming to promote the prune danish franchise
Fred, you aren't into the cooking sherry are you?
-
Shayne, do I have all these photos? If not, can you send me a couple of good shots - I'm printing some up for the Courts show and am especially interested in Partridge (which I think you sent), and Happy Days, but I'd think shots with Ronny and the regulars would do best.
There are screen caps I took from a DVD rental. I don't have a lot of them.

Health vibes to Cillaliz.

Thanks TCB, glad you're feeling better.

Dear Friend Ronni will be here tomorrow.
I hope I don't make a mistake and call her Ronny.
-
What drops on the west coast to signify the new year there or do they just replay the ball dropping from the east coast.
-
There are some other special features on THE NAKED PREY Criterion disc including what appears to be a documentary on the real-life American who was captured by Indians and escaped from them.
-
Laugh Laugh Laugh
-
Balls are dropping like flies on the West Coast.
-
And it's obvious Mel Gibson had THE NAKED PREY in mind when he directed APOCALYPTO.
-
And flies are dropping like, well you know, in West Hollywood.
-
Uh oh....everybody is gossiping about Elverna Bradshaw and her daughter Big Mouth.
-
What drops on the west coast to signify the new year there or do they just replay the ball dropping from the east coast.
In Seattle, an elevator goes up the side of the Space Needle, and when it reaches the top it sets off a huge fireworks display. It sounds stupid, but it is very cool.
-
Fred & Ginger all night on TCM.
-
After I finish the NAKED PREY disc at some point tomorrow, I'll be continuing with the brainless ROB & BIG set. It is the highest rated show on MTV with males 18-34. Amazing.
-
Big Mouth was very disappointed about Jane's news about men in india.
-
Kathy Griffin is co-hosting on CNN with Anderson Cooper

Health vibes to Cillaliz and TCB and everyone else.

Big Mouth was very disappointed about Jane's news about men in india.
She always was skittish.

Health vibes to Cillaliz and TCB and everyone else.
Thanks Jeanne.
-
Very nice!

Pearl went on a midnight moonlight newt hunt.

Remember the needle for the holidays
-
The Space needle New Year's Eve.
Looks like it exceeds international standards, but it is a bit premature isn't it ;)
-
In New Zealand I think they drop a hobbit into molten lava to ring in the New Year.
-
Pearl went on a midnight moonlight newt hunt.
And did Pearl find any new newts for her nephews? Or was the midnight moonlight moot?
-
Looks like it exceeds international standards, but it is a bit premature isn't it ;)
We try not to discuss that in mixed company.
-
I see I recently reached a new milestone.
-
And where is Miss Karen, might I ask?
-
I see I recently reached a new milestone.
Another birthday?
-
We are having mojitos (made by Rob) and cocktail shrimp in the run up to midnight. Also watching Fred & Ginger on TCM. See y'all next year!
-
Only a few minutes to go on the East Coast.
-
Here in LA the haineshisway.com balls WILL drop.
-
I came back to spend the last 10 minutes of 2007 at HHW.
-
Another birthday?
No, silly. I try not to have more than one of those a year.
-
A mere seven minutes to East Coast and environs New Year - but don't be going away until the OFFICIAL New Year here in the West Coast.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
A mere seven minutes to East Coast and environs New Year - but don't be going away until the OFFICIAL New Year here in the West Coast.
Uh, that won't be happening. Some of us old folks need our sleep.
-
This place is so funny.
-
Five more minutes to go at my house.
-
No, silly. I try not to have more than one of those a year.
3600 posts?
-
This place is so funny.
and no-one reads your posts Jack. LOL
-
I'm hearing fireworks in the distance. . . .
-
Uh, that won't be happening. Some of us old folks need our sleep.
Even some of us young folks.
-
I do adore Les Demoiselles De Rochefort - so charming and almost-colorful. The DVD doesn't get it quite right and I think Mr. Demy would be somewhat appalled by his wife's restoration of this film. Not enough blue - it's still got nice color but the contrast is milky and the transfer itself is old and should be redone. I had a gorgeous 16mm IB Tech print of this film and know exactly what it should look like.
-
3600 posts?
ding, ding, ding!

This is sitting on my to-watch shelf, and I've never watched it. SOmeday. . . .

Midnight by my clock.
-
I'm thinking we could enter the top ten between now and the New Year.
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!
-
New Year Happy!!!
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO OUR EAST COAST HAINSIES/KIMLETS!!!
-
Midnight by my watch, too.
And yet I hear nothing. What's up? I hear fireworks EVERY year!
-
I really do hope for all HHWers the most wonderful, successful, and happy 2008!!!
I look forward to lots of good times here.
-
Happy 4.00pm everyone.
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR EASTERN STANDARD TIME!!!!!!!
-
and no-one reads your posts Jack. LOL
I eat my words. :P
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR to both left and right coasts!
-
Good times a-comin', baby!
-
Today I cashed in a borders gift card from Christmas and got the Back to the Future trilogy. I have been waiting forever for the price to go down, and it was at an all time low.
-
Page twenty-two and counting. And the partay is just getting into full swing.
-
Quick, everybody up and let's dance the Lambada (The Forbidden Dance).
-
Jeanne best not WUSSBURGER.
-
Happy 4.00pm everyone.
;D
This must seem rather anti-climatic to you, Tom.
-
I eat my words. :P
I think that was the song with the Saint-Saen melody used in "Babe".
-
I've had quite a bit of Diet Coke and am feeling no pain.
-
No pain seems very happy that I am feeling it.
-
;D
This must seem rather anti-climatic to you, Tom.
Southern Hemisphere so of course it is climatic rather than anti. :D
-
Page 22 Cedric and Cho Dance!!!
-
I'm still full.
-
ah, here are the fireworks. Six minutes late, by my clock.
-
;D
This must seem rather anti-climatic to you, Tom.
No, not really.
-
I am getting my second and third winds.
-
And where in tarnation is elmore?
-
Southern Hemisphere so of course it is climatic rather than anti. :D
Good point.
-
I'm now dancing the Wah-Watusi.
-
Well, I hope everyone has a pleasant evening and that the West Coast HHWs enjoy their midnight celebration!
Good night!
-
Will we never get to page twenty-three?
-
I see I was having a conversation with two Toms at once.
-
Who's snacking on what?
-
As the big peach drops, Happy New Year from Atlanta!!!
-
Tomorrow I start serious dieting.
-
Good night, Matt.
-
Therefore, I may as well eat whatever's laying around here tonight.
-
So it is written, so it shall be done - page twenty-three.
-
I'm snacking on nothing, as I'm still full from din-din.
-
Well, we didn't get the curtains hung by midnight, but we are drinking champagne and watching Dick Clark in Times Square.
Last year, we were working on the house at this time, not being able to imagine ever living here. Now we're cosily ensconced and it feels like home!
-
Tomorrow I start serious dieting.
Ditto X 10!
-
Let the curtains be hung by the dropping balls.
Sorry, too much Diet Root Beer.
-
have we set any records yet?
-
I see I was having a conversation with two Toms at once.
spoo!
-
Hang your curtains
Step in time
Have a little shnapps with a little bit of lime
or champagne!
-
Has Dick Clark's ball dropped? Not till CA time, right?
-
I'm having so much fun here at haineshisway.com. And no wacko drunk drivers to deal with.
-
I wonder if Pogue came back from walking the dog.
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!
-And no matter how you spin it, it's "official" for me! ;)
-
Anyone have any resolutions they can share?
-
And now comes the time during Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve where all these musical "artists" I've never heard of sing and dance. Or something like that.
-
A wonderful glorious New Year to each and everyone of you here at this site (including lurkers), and a special New Year's toast to our host, BK, the founder of our feast (hmm, almost Dickens)!
Well, this is Dr. Wussburger signing off from Tacoma.
-
And now comes the time during Dick Clark's Rockin' Eve where all these musical "artists" I've never heard of sing and dance. Or something like that.
the consolation prize from some reality show?
-
We had fireworks here too. Someone was lighting them in the empty lot across the street. They looked pretty cool out of Steve's window and skylight. However, they were a bit close for comfort since we think we heard a couple of the shell(?) fragments fall on the roof - which is basically Steve's ceiling.
-
Good night, TCB.
-
I'm quite happy to let the "officials" do the fireworks.
-
And we're also hearing all the people who were up on the roof walking down the stairs now - which are next to Steve's apartment. Well, most of them seem to be running and/or stomping down the stairs. :-\
-

Maybe they are on fire from the fireworks hitting them while standing on the roof
-
Good night. Happy new year, everyone!

Maybe they are on fire from the fireworks hitting them while standing on the roof
To quote Paris Hilton, "That's hot."
;)
-
To quote Paris Hilton, "That's hot."

At least you know I read your posts ;D
-
Hi all!
A very very happy and healthy new year.
Wishing a successful and happy year for everyone.
I see the partay is in full swing - 23 pages!
-
Hmm.... Steve just passed this link onto me, and now I share it with all of you DRs...
Piano Bar Live Online (http://onlinepianobar.com/)
;)
-
Much soup was eaten and games played. Now we're here at the real party.
-
Maybe they are on fire from the fireworks hitting them while standing on the roof
that's what I was thinking. some people just don't take kindly to being hit with fireworks.
-
Happy New Year east coasters! DR Jose, I almost sent you a text msg, but I thought you wouldn't recognize the name :)
DP and I just finished a fantastic rib-eye steak dinner with chard and steak fries. DP Eric grilled some fantastic steaks. We're contemplating a cocktail soon, something with a champagne base.
We are in the middle of an "Are You Being Served" marathon, as the DP got the entire series on DVD from me for Christmas. Good times.
-
Hello, Julie.
Happy New Year to you, too.
-
Good heavens. Streaming Karaoke
-
Good night, Fred.
-
And on that note...
Once again, Happy New Year! This has been a fine way to start off 2008!
Alas, part of the first day of 2008 for me involves a plane trip back to NYC in a couple of hours, so...
Goodnight.
-
Everyone sing along.
-
what did you serve with the soup, laura?
-
Safe flight home, Jose.
-

This site is scary:
http://www.drkrm.com/mex1.html (http://www.drkrm.com/mex1.html)
I don't know which is scarier...those crazy Mexican monsters or the prices that guy is charging for the movie stills!
-
Night Jose and FJL and everyone else who is signing off. HNY
-
And speaking of Mexican monsters, DR JRand did you happen to watch that scary Red Riding Hood and the Monsters movie yet?
I have not popped my copy into the DVD player yet...we should coordinate and watch it at the same time!
-
I feel a wussburger coming on.
-
No-chill vibes to you, Cilla!!!
-
Safe travel vibes to Jose.
-
No-chill vibes to you, Cilla!!!
Thanks FJL, I think staying home tonight was a very good idea

Happy New Year, Everyone
-
Well, in that case, I shall call it a night.
Good night, everyone, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!
-
Happy New Year - pleasant dreams.
Sleep well everyone.
-
Night, Julie
-
Good night Cilla.
-
HAPPY NEW YEAR, HAINESHISWAY!
-
Just soup. Everyone brings a pot of soup, and we share. I took vegetable matzo ball, meatball vegetable, and butternut squash.
-
Someday, when I get to visit India, perhaps I will do my own research. I must help them save face!
-
I remember when New Year's Eve was Big Band music. I much prefer that.
-
Good night and happy new year to those that haven't had it yet. I know what that is like. Waiting around. Anticipating. Wondering when it will happen and if I will like when it happens. I know that I dozed off when it happened to me this time. Oh well, There is always next year hoping that it will happen and I will stay awake.
-
Good night to all those who have gone to bed, have a safe and happy new year!
-
First cocktail - champagne (actually a sparkling wine this time) with cassis puree (black current puree) and a splash of chambord (raspberry liquer). Very yummy.
-
I am drinking sprite :)
-
Shortly I will begin my last Bollywood film of 2007. It will be a Bollywood movie from 1970 titled CHORON KA CHOR and stars wrestler turned action hero Mr. Dara Singh, who, by the way, wears a size 14 shoe.
(I guess they just didn't check as far south as Punjab!)
-
My mom has had the fireworks shows from around the world playing all night
-
Well, I hope SOMEONE stays until the official balls drop.
-
Finished Young Girls Of Rochefort.
-
Page 25 is a very exciting thing
-
I wonder how many parties are going on in my building tonight...
-
I don't do my New Year's Eve "thing" for another ninety minutes - at eleven-thirty I'll be away for approximately fifteen minutes, then back for the big moment.
-
I'm thinkin' we'll definitely enter the top ten in just a little while.
-
I will be here until the official ball dropping.
-
We'll be here, too!!
-
Someday, when I get to visit India, perhaps I will do my own research. I must help them save face!
Don't forget your traveling partner! MOI! Namaste, DR MBarnum!
-
I have been up since 1 a.m.
-
TOD, the best thing that happened to me was having the guts to leave my old job and start out on my own.
-
I would really like to see this movie....
-
Will we never get to page twenty-six?
-
Happy New Year from the Central time zone
-
I wonder if we'll beat last New Year's Rockin' Eve's posting frenzy - that posting day is currently number nine, but we've got a ways to go before we get there. We're now about twenty posts away from the number ten spot.
-
I'm having ever so much fun on our New Year's Rockin' Eve.
-
I'll have to see if it's a record breaker in the morning. I need to get some sleep. Night all and HNY
-
DR, Are you free?
-
I am here, a tad sad, but I am here.....
DBF is now on his way to Utah.....
However he refused to not say good bye and that he would be back....
-
Happy New Year and a Great 2008 to those on the East coast!
-
Wind chill will be -20 tomorrow, but by Thursday it will be in the 30s again. Can't wait.
Not much better here. It was cold, windy and miserable here this afternoon.
-
Happy New Year and Great 2008 to those in the Central Time!
-
The Howdy Doody episode is from season 2 episode 33. The poker one is from season 1 episode 10.
These episodes were filmed and not video taped.
Here is a shot from the poker scene
Nice shot of Bruce!
-
Anti-Chill vibes to Cillaliz!
-
Laugh Laugh Laugh
Who is the guy with Bruce?
It is on page 20 and it is a still from the First Nudie Musical.
-
Here is the final sunset of 2007, taken this evening from my balcony:
-
I am shocked I tell you shocked at the WUSSBURGERING. People were a lot less WUSSBURGERY last New Year's Rockin' Eve. Maybe people will be back, but at this rate we may not enter the top ten and we most certainly won't beat last year's posting record.
-
Stephen Nathan is the Nudie actor with me.
-

-
I am all caught up....
-
Borrowing from bk,
Will we ever get to page 27?
-
I'm resolved...that bedtime is nigh.
-
Another good thing, supporting THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X in spirit even though I was unable to attend....
-
I'm resolved...to not take it personally when someone thanks everyone but me for their birthday greetings.
-
I am sorry if I missed you.... Thank you, you are appreciated also.....
-
I'm resolved...to wussburger no more, and no less, than ever before.
-
I'm resolved that too little is too late.
-
RLP, have you seen First Nudie Musical?
-
I'm resolved that tweedle dee is the same thing as tweedle dum. Using them in a pair is redundant.
-
RLP, have you seen First Nudie Musical?
Use the search feature.
-
A freind of mine went up to Grand Forks, ND for First Night festivities. RAther cold.... -30 windchill......
-
I'm resolved to wish BK a Happy New Year and beg his indulgence as I put my butt to bed.
-
I will do that....
-
In one hour and roughly 17 minutes it will 2008 in California
-
Need a snack... I will brb
-
WHAT! I come back and we are only at page 26?
-

Also grabbed my new toy to figure it out.....
-
after I figure out how to get into the package.....
-
I have heard of childproof packing ..... but really.....
-
T.O.D - I loved working in NY on the brain and meeting so many wonderful new people.
Although working to put the big fundraiser together was a pain and a half the end product was worth it. As usual I wish I had worked a little harder in school. Next year I am going to work on focusing more on attaining financial successes and making new friends.
-
Hello Adriana....
-
Where did everyone go? Is the party over? I thought it ended at midnight...I guess the rest of us will just party with ourselves - more party and ham chunks for us west coasters!
-
*parties with Dakota*
-
Seriously considering a knife to cut the package but I dont want to damage it.....
-
hmmm - perhaps to start the new year I will get a new avvie. fresh look for a fresh year.
-
crackers dear?
-
Anyway, be back around midnight for the REAL New Year
-
Tis is true....
You can make one on photobucket if you wish....
-
Is anyone here.....
-
Happy New Year and a Great 2008 to those in the Mountain Time Zone!
-
Less than hour for the west coast!
-
Happy New Year to the East Coast and Mountain Time Zones!! :D
-
Just fifty-seven minutes to go.
-
Well, we made the top-ten, and we could probably make number nine if we didn't have so much WUSSBURGERING. But who's complaining - certainly not I and certainly not me.
-
It is supposed to be cold here tomorrow....
-
I have eaten everything that wasn't nailed down and now there is no food at all in the home environment.
-
I do have some projects I want to tackle tomorrow.....
cleaning, work on some genealogy, etc.....
-
::: hands bk a cyber Cherry Ripe ::::
-
I am nibbling on some christmas goodies.....
-
My computer room is in dire need of attention
-
I wonder if it is possible if we can get over 800 posts....
-
I wonder if 2008 will reveal great things for THE BRAIN....
-
I think I shall now do my New Year's Eve thing - keep the home fries burning and I'll be returning about 11:45 for our countdown. Hopefully some people will be here for the event.
-
Anything can happen if you let it.
-
Dinner at Anthony's Hearthfire Grill (http://www.anthonys.com/restaurants/info/NorthPointOlympia.html) with the family was good. I had a $14 (one of the cheapest things on the menu!) hamburger (it didn't come with chili, though) and their bread pudding for dessert. And the service was very good. Afterwards, we all went to my sister's house and chatted for awhile. Then I came home and here I am.
-
Posting, posting, posting....
-
DBF and I had gone out for dinner earlier and then just spent some quiet time with each other....
-
I am not in the least bit sleepy.
-
Do you realize that this year is a leap year....
-
Nor am I and it is after 1 am here....
-
Adriana, you are closing in on 1600
-
ADriana, what are is your major in school?
-
Feeling lonesome....
-
bk is closing in on a new plateau also....
-
Reading the direction on my mp3 player.... after i finally got all the plastic removed....
Three layers of plastic....

Thank god the instructions are in English....
One time when I bought something that needed assembly, the instructions were in Korean....
-
You know what would be good is a nice warm cup of hot chocolate....
-
I think a critter may have found its way into my attic. A squirrel, most likely. I've asked Marvelous Matt to cme over one day and do an inspection.
Anyone had animals in their houses and, if so, what did you do?
Feed them, of course.
der Brucer
-
I have a question...does anyone else have the problem of pages taking a minute or MORE to load here on HHW? Going to the next page, quoting, etc., all have the same problem of taking FOREVER to load. :P I have tried Internet Explorer, Netscape and tonight, I downloaded Mozilla Firefox and they all have the same problem. However, it seems only to be on my home computer, not on my work computer, and it also seems to happen only in the evening, not in the morning. :-\ So, I would assume that it's just my computer. >:(
-
I have done my "thing" and now we countdown to a gloriously glorious New Year.
-
Well, we've got a FEW people here, anyway.
-
Twenty-two minutes and counting.
-
Where are the other west coast denizens?
-
Welcome twelve GUESTS. I wonder if one of them is... nah. Come on GUESTS, it's New Year's Rockin' Eve - come on in and toast in the New Year with us. It will bring you much luck.
-

I have dail up so it is slow anyways....
However the net on my end seems to be hanging alot to night...
I suspect it might be prodigy....
-
however that does not stop me from going on a posting frenzy!
-
With my dail up, I seem to have more stability with Firefox at times than with IE
-
We have achieved the number nine spot, and actually are within spitting distance of the number eight spot.
-
Fourteen minutes to the New Year!
-
Cool!
-
Are we closer to spot #8?
-
10 minutes....
-
sunflower seeds anyone?
-
Ten minutes to 2008!
-
Perhaps if George and der Brucer joined in we could get to number eight.
-
A wee bit closer....
-
Nine minutes to 2008! I feel the balls getting ready to drop.
-
that would be nice.... I am trying.... ;)
-
cool!
-
Eight minutes.
-
DBF should have good driving conditions through ND, SD, and Wyoming before hitting Utah on the other side of the Rockies and Wasatch Mountains
-
Why are George and der Brucer just sitting there like so much fish.
-
Seven minutes.
-
tick tock... tick tock.... tick tock....
-
Those balls are really ready to drop.
-
Only a few more posts...
-
No one can say we didn't get to page twenty-nine.
-
Page 29 dance!
-
I'm here, but it's just so darned frustrating. I will probably need to have my sister's boyfriend re-do my computer (he built it) to fix the page loading problem.
-
cool beans!
-
that stinks....
-
We have indeed achieved the number eight spot.
Six minutes (I'm going by my computer clock).

only 10 posts to 11300
-
Hooray!!!!
-
I need 8 more...
-
May 2008 bring some peace and happiness to the world!
-
You're having page-loading problems? I hate when that happens. I like to think our pages are loaded most of the time.
Five minutes to 2008.

May it bring some joy!

Four minutes.
-
May it bring prosperity!

I am almost there....

Make that fourteen GUESTS. It's rockin' in here.
