BK, noticed a typo in my blurb.  It says "Krtizer Times" with an "s" instead of Kritzer Time.  Hope it's still possible to change it.

Anybody watching any of the NEW talk shows.....besides the Rachel Ray disaster?

I've seen the first episode of Megan Mullally's new talk show.  I enjoyed it, but I haven't seen any since...but I have taped them.

Ron Pulliam,

Yes!!! Rachel Ray!!  How irritating is this woman?  We were watching her last night and I swear the woman looks like she is on drugs.  I have never seen such arm-swinging, pointless, excessive gesticulate.  She does things with her hands that have no correlation to what she is saying at all.  And I hate that little giggle of hers that she often punctuates sentences with.

I don't care for her, but I don't have anything against her.  She has this weird smile that (to me) just screams out "TOTALLY FAKE SMILE FOR THE CAMERA!" ::) My sister and niece watch her new show (and have watched her previous show) and love her, though.

Question for ASK BK (and HHW'ers) Day.

Which "celebrity" of today do you wish would just go away? You may choose more than one.

BK, I placed my order JUST NOW but there's an issue that I think needs to be brought to your attention.  When I click on the "Buy a Signed Copy" link and then click on the "Buy It Now" link and the Paypal screen comes up, it says under "Item":

How to Write A Dirty Book... ($22.00 plus $5.00 priority postage shipping fee)
Item #35

But then the total shown is $29 (which is $24, the correct price, plus $5 shipping).  The price in that "Item" display needs to be fixed, unless there is some new Lehrerian new math that I don't know about. ;)

WOW!  (That's !WOW spelled backwards.)  (And MOM! spelled upside-down.)

The cover alone is worth the price of admission.

For "ask BK day" ...

Dear BK,

Do you ever run into the situation with singers, where they don't actually realize what is the best part of their range?  I thought of this because you mentioned setting keys for songs in "The Brain," and I used to encounter an odd thing when I was working with soloists each week.

It seemed especially true of sopranos and tenors;  they always would try to pick a key that was just a little too high for them.  I don't know if they felt that they had to prove how high they could sing, but they invariably would get weak in the very top range, and the color wasn't as rich or warm.  I finally solved the problem, by just dropping the key a half or whole step on the actual performance day.

So, what is your system for getting across to singers where they are actually the strongest and best-sounding?

We usually find it together - a nice back and forth I have with everyone I work with.  Some fight me on it, but come around in the end.

I got all excited by the cool animation---whipped out my credit card and:

Paypal: Access to your account has been limited because you have declined the new User Agreement. To restore full access to your account please accept the new User Agreement.

But it doesn't tell you *how* to accept the new user agreement! Argh!  I didn't want to send them all my info again because I get so many bogus things of this type that I wasn't really sure it was indeed Paypal.  :'(

My suggestion is to log into paypal directly - not through the book site.  You should be able to do what you need to do there - then you can come back and place the order.

Woooo-hooooo.  I just bought HOW TO WRITE A DIRTY BOOK.

Loved the sample....made me feel as if I was there, Charlie!

My PayPal summary page said Book $22 + $5 s/h for the total of $29.  You might have your people check that page and make the $22 into $25.

I guess I should ketchup on the posts before I post.  I hadn't read JRand's post before I said the same thing.  Ooops! :-[

Speaking of Telly Savalas, I was just watching one of his lesser accomplishments at the end of my afternoon of viewing - BEYOND THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE on the INHD high definition channel.

I've never seen this movie before - certainly didn't pay money to see it in the theater - and the first thirty minutes are supremely bad. Shots of the ship explosions are lifted from THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE with new footage of the cast being tossed about obviously (and badly) connected to it.

But what a cast: Michael Caine, Sally Field, Telly, Karl Malden, Shirley Jones, Veronica Hammell, Peter Boyle. I'm sure they all got good paydays from this. Sally's other movie that year won her an Oscar - NORMA RAE.

I was surprised that this sequel was a Warner Bros. movie, not a Fox production. I guess Irwin Allen had gone from Fox to Warners by the late 70s.

It's correct on the book.  She must have retyped it for the site.  I'll alert her.

I started my afternoon of viewing with last night's BOSTON LEGAL. Some really funny things going on last night and a chance for Julie Bowen to shine for a chance. James Spader had a good role in last night's script, too.

Looking forward to Craig Bierko joining the cast next week.

LAW & ORDER: SVU had a wild and wooly seson premiere with undercover work and explosions and all sorts of bad things happening. But it did allow Mariska Hargitay to ease out of the show for the next eight episodes while she went on maternity leave last spring.

So, no new PROJECT RUNWAY tonight? I glanced at the cable guide and the episode for 10 p.m. said "Black and White" which was last week's episode.

Is this right?

Ah - DR EDISAURUS, I think both DRs CILLA LIZ and GINNY met Ms Mary Badham last year in connection with TKAM....
...

Alas, I did not meet Mary.  Our Big Read book for 2006 was, indeed, To Kill a Mockingbird, but the organizers of special events were not thinking big enough to contact her and invite her here for an appearance.

But I did ;D She was wonderful. The showing of TKAM and the dinner in her honor were both at The Orpheum. It was restored 5 years ago to the tune of $12 million.  She was very impressed with it.

And for your reading pleasure:

Chenoweth, Hensley, Kudisch to Star in October Workshop of Young Frankenstein

and

Keeping Up with Tom Jones

der Brucer

What I find particularly interesting is that the Monster will be played by Shuler Hensley.

Hensley, of course, won both an Olivier and a Tony (not to mention the Outer Critics Circle and the Drama Desk Awards) for his portrayal of Jud Fry in Oklahoma!--the rôle that our very own DR Jason got three callbacks on when the National Company was being cast--but alas! did not get the part.

But--there is always a but--did you know that Hensley played the Monster in the musical Frankenstein?

And did you know that he played the Monster in the so-bad-I-can't-take-my-eyes-off-it film Van Helsing, starring his Oklahoma! co-star Mr. Jackman?  (I just know the MBarnums of two generations hence will love it!)

It appears that Shuler was born to play Frankenstein's monster.

The sitcom will be scheduled for the 2007 fall season.
