FREE TICKET OFFER

Anyone interested in either 1 or 2 free tickets for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular for tomorrow's (Sunday's) 1 pm matinee?    They're really good seats, 15th row, row PP 500's section.  You just have to pick up the tickets here before noonish.

(While I loved the show, having just seen it today with my cousins, I'm going to wait a few weeks before seeing it again.)

Good Evening!

...We ended up having a nice brunch down at Coffee Shop at Union Square.  It's a cool, funky place - and always packed and bustling.  Thankfully, the wait for a table wasn't too long, and our food came out of the kitchen not too long after we placed our order.  I opted for for the Eggs Ipanema - which was basically a Brazilian version of Eggs Benedict, although, I'm still trying to figure out what type of sauce was on top - I detected coconut in it, I think.  In any case, it was good.  Then...

Well, I'll take the pair if no one else wants them.  :)

Great, Jose!  Just dress warm for the very-much-publicized indoor snowstorm.  :)

Give  a call when you're on your way over tomorrow.

Then...

I headed up a few blocks to 890 Broadway to play a few hours of rehearsal for White Christmas.  The stage manager had called me just as I was leaving the apartment this afternoon asking if I was available to come in this afternoon.. And since I was heading down to Union Square anyway to have brunch, I figured it was meant to be.  :)

*DR elmore - Maybe they could funnel some of the heat from the 4th floor of 890 Broadway to your apartment - it was HOT in there.

HOO and RAY!

A friend of mine is working on the show this year behind the scenes, and it will be nice to see just how all the "craziness" of the rehearsal period has come together.  ;)

My cousin from Scranton, PA and her 7-year-old daughter could - of course - not see Little Mermaid today, so we hied ourselves over to Radio City Music Hall, where the three of us caught the Christmas Spectacular.  This was a major overhaul from last year, felt like about 75% new or rethought segments.  Even the Nativity segment felt very different, but the camels and sheep are still there.

Yep, apparently, they did quite a bit of updating for this year's edition.  -I'm looking forward to my "star".  :)

I did miss the "Everybody's Waiting for the Man with a Bag" number by Mrs. Claus from the past several years, though.

I am watching Paula Deen and Kermit make fried pumpkin cake.

I saw that episode of "Paula's Party" last night, and, frankly, I don't think that Fried Pumpkin Cake is something I'd ever make.  I may eat it, but I'd never make it.  ;)

And, apparently, if you went to one of their invited dress rehearsals earlier in the week, they had a couple of other things "missing" and/or "added" throughout show.  My friend showed me the rehearsal report, and I don't think ever seen such a list before in my life.  ;D

Are they still ending with "Welcome Christmas," the Reindeer Dance and my orchestrations?

Nice TORCHWOOD tonight, albeit with a glaring error history wise.

Larry - Are you talking about after the living Nativity?  They ended with a popped-up version of "Joy to the World."

DR Matt:

Last week you were asking why Torchwood had an episode that had almost nothing of Captain Jack, and for that matter almost nothing of most of the regulars (except for Gwen).

We caught the episode earlier this evening, and I can understand your confusion.  It was a mirror of two episodes of Doctor Who, "Love and Monsters" in the second series and "Blink" in the third.  What producer Russel T. Davies discovered was that there was too much of a time crunch to get all the stories produced in time, requiring too much of his stars.  So, he included a story in the second season that only marginally involved the Doctor (and Rose) to afford his cast and crew the time they needed... and the trick worked.  He pulled it off the second time by... well, that would require spoilers.

So, Davies pulled it off again with "Random Shoes," basically a story involving Gwen with a character named Eugene Jones, a stand-alone story told from Eugene's POV.  Given the big special effects stories to come towards the end of the series, this gives the rest of the cast and crew the time to get their work done.

(And, spoiler time... yes, the last stories, from what I've come across, have a lot going on, special effects-wise and otherwise.)

The numbers that seemed basically unchanged form previous years were the 3-D opening, Rockettes Wooden Soldiers sequence, and what I think of as the thousands of Santas appearing dance. and some aspects of the dancing dolls in the Nutcracker section.  At least to my memory, anyway.  The rest seemed new or rethought in some way.
