The extraordinary paint job will be inspected by both my parents in a short span of days. Last night, Dad stopped by, and was clearly very impressed, if itching to get out the moment he sat down. Joy invited Mom over for Mother's Day, as this is the first Mother's Day we've been in the same city for since 1978.
Well, DR Noel, I hope you will convey to both your parents the fact that I am only one of a number of their new-found fans, having derived great enjoyment from their latest recording. They are to be commended for their singing and comedy talents--not to mention their bravery.
From DR Jay Post Number 45
"Did I miss a post? Who, Dear Reader Noel, are your apparently very talented and brave parents?"
Jay, I think Mr. Orr is referring to the talents of Noel's parents as heard on their Wedding CD.
And there are more photos to come. Even Rummy said so. And videos! Horrible.
Just got this request from a friend who does a (more intellectual variety) call-in radio show. This is the perfect place, I do believe, to ask his question...
The first Sunday in June, I'll be doing a show on metaphor (including similes, analogies, etc.) that explores why we use such imagery, how we feel on encountering a particularly apt metaphor, etc. And for interludes between calls I would like to have a handful of good musical passages (from songs, presumably), that exemplify or otherwise bear upon the theme. For example, one I already have in mind is Paul Simon's "Bridge Over Troubled Waters." Do you know any other good possibilities? I would very much appreciate your suggestions. Thanks
I think Miss Monroe connected with this role for many reasons, some of which are eerie (you’ll understand once you’ve seen it). I find the “Monroe” act of the films that came just after this a bit tiresome after you’ve seen five or six of the Fox films, but she’s so fresh and real in this picture it just blew me away. Can someone come get me?
Does any other DR (besides me) ever refresh a page, see no new messages, and then finally realize we've started a new page.
I think I just may do the Page Three Dumb Girl Dance!
:(

Jed - You have a treat in store when you finally catch up with SLIH. I envy you.
Me thinks you misread my post, Panni. SLIH is the one MM film I don't have to catch up with.

DS (Dear Son) Jed -- I have probably asked you this before, but you know how senile I am becoming. Is the Highway Grill still open in Ellensburg???
Ooh (hoo, spelled backwards) guess what I just got: Around the World in Eighty Days SE. Can't wait!
My fear is he'll just re-trench firmly into his position and stay there, thumbing his nose at all reasonable and rational free-thinking people which has been de rigeur for this administration.
It's funny, but when people talk about Billy Wilder movies, that's one that almost never comes up despite the fact that it was a smash hit at the time and one of Monroe's iconic roles.
Perhaps because it was an adaptation of a stage property (also starring Mr. Ewell), and not one of his celluloid originals.
Favorite MM moment: "Well, maybe somebody's name is Butler"
Marilyn is glorious in THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS, and I've always found it a validation of her star quality that when she walks into the frame in ALL ABOUT EVE, you're drawn to her despite such towering star presences all around her.
I never doubted that it was Bancroft's voice though that didn't stop other studios from dubbing actors who could actually sing (see Angela Lansbury in THE HARVEY GIRLS). We must remember that Anne Bancroft won an Emmy for her musical variety special ANNIE: THE WOMAN IN THE LIFE OF A vMAN
Ain't it the truth DRSTUART....Celeste's clothes in ALL ABOUT EVE are awful! Thank God Bette had them bring in Edith Head for hers.

The British folksong, arranged by Benjamin Britten, "The Water Is Wide."
Is it Saturday yet? Because frankly, I'm just about done with Friday, if you get my drift. I was going to stop and get something to eat on the way home - to take with me - and every single place that looked appealing had a line out the door. Done. Finito. It's been Saturday for seven and a half hours. What's the problem?
If they were dealing with known facts I think they were safe, but I don't know HOW they were able to impersonate living real people without releases or permission.
One of your "pets" François? Were your referring to Leslie or Moi? People will wonder about our relationship. Sit Tomovoz sit! Walkies!
Zoltan, I hope. Congrats.
We've already chosen the name, which I really like, and I'll have more details shortly.
But isn't it funny - if they're seeing all these real people through the tabloid bio writer's eyes, why is the ONE person's name they changed the ATTORNEY - Gloria Allred (Alter, in the movie). Hmmm.
Gee, Danise, I wouldn't like to be around you because so many people have called me "honey!"!!!!
I am excited about this....but strangely indifferent as well....

Say, where in tarnation IS everyone?
If there's one thing I abhor, it's hypocrisy. To wit:Jay, I'm not going to quote your entire post here, because people can go back and look it up for themselves, but couldn't you have attributed at least one of those statements to someone specific, instead of some vague "some hypocrite said this"? I mean, if you can point to specific people who have made both comments, then fine, but otherwise the whole post was a vague attack on some vague "those people," and not very constructive.
I'm gonna say something HORRENDOUS! -- Yes, you can hate me for that! :P..... But I've never cared for Marilyn Monroe the actress :-[Horrendous? Mais non! I've never cared for her, either, or at least never cared for how she was used. She developed a schtick, which proved very popular, and then was never able to break away from her schtick character, even when she tried to improve her acting skills. She sure had charisma, but what good was that when it simply became a routine?
Yes, it was moi, Dear Reader td!C'est formidable!
Interesting article, hey?!
We get to see "Urinetown" today. Hope it is fun. Newbee Beekay sees the OZ production of "The Producers" tonight and will hopefully report back in a few days after his long journey to the outback.
quick note
Thanks to all the good wishes and vibes that I didn't think would help. Well they worked!! He miracously recovered and will be coming home on Saturday. I am so glad I went to see him. I will be back on a regular basis on Monday.
Thanks again.
PS Marilyn Monroe in How to Marry a Millionaire.
Gee thanks, TCB. I'd actually managed to purge Yahoo Serious from my memory until now!
