DR Jane re: the ebook article you posted last night.

I would definitely borrow ebooks if my library had new releases for kindle.

But right now they have only for kobo. And i don't even think they have that many new releases. So double no for me.

But since i get a lot of free/cheap ebooks from amazon, and a bunch of new ebooks from netgalley and a lot of new release hardcovers from the library I really don't mind not being able to check out ebooks.

It seems a long month. Probably feels that way because the weather has been so bad - and it's pouring again today.

At least during the rain I get get on with all my scanning. The oldest family photograph I've scanned so far is from 1874.

Good morning, all! I slept until 9am and I am very happy that I did. I was having the most peculiar dream when I awoke; it had somerhing to do with a government-ordered trek(?) with my family on a train - or was it a family outing by train to an amusement park? - and a tense situation when delays stopped the train back. It was a rather creepy dream, My brother Randy was around 5 or younger, so I suppose I was around 16. My father and several other dead relatives - one of them might have been my grandfather who died when I was around 2 yearsold - were in the dream.

So, today, I have little to do. I will run to Staples for the copies I need, tidy up the apartment, vacuum, and lounge.

I ended up doing OK at the garage sale.  We sold all of the big items save one, which I donated to Salvation Army.  The BDs and DVDs that didn't sell at my "exorbitant" garage sale prices were then sold en masse to the eBay guy who always agrees to purchase my lots for his business.  So we once again kind of have a garage.  :)

Good morning, all.  And a fine late one it is for me.  Slept in all the way to ten, which is almost unheard of these days.

Best of all, following yesterday afternoon-evening-and-night's little gathering on the deck with delicious grilled meats and other delectables (this gathering was nothing approaching a Dinner Party, though), this is a day of rest.  But not one of idleness.  Some straightening up and vacuuming will be going on here, too.  I must needs also plan a nice afternoon and evening of good music listening and movie watching.

Hi all.  Tropical Storm Debby is making it dark and rainy around here today.  The dogs seem to have the rainy day blues as well.  Both sleeping now at my feet while sounds of siren's are sounding rather close by.

Sending driving vibes to all around me--it's raining, the roads are slick, put your foot on the brake more often people, not the gas and leave a longer distance between yourself and the car in front of you.  Better still--just stay home.  I am.  Is there anything that you need that badly out there?

End of rant.

Since this is make with the topics day, and and since I didn't want to post anything non-Hitchcockian on Hitchcock day, here's another autograph scan.  It's one of my favorites, being a rather unusual object to have signed:  a bootleg album found in a small store on Hollywood Blvd. in 1972 or 1973.

I went to see SINBAD and JASON at the Walter Reade several years ago when Harryhausen was there to promote the large retrospective book of his works.  People had taken various other things for him to sign, but nothing very unusual, so this got plenty of attention from other folks in line.  Harryhausen didn't show any particular reaction to it himself, but it was interesting to hear that his people shortly thereafter were asking that no more "outside materials" be taken up for signing.  (They did want to sell books, after all.)

The big lovely surprise of the evening was Kathryn Grant Crosby having come to enjoy the film as well, and she received lots of love and attention.  She was extremely gracious and willing to chat, and seemed very pleased when I asked if she'd sign this.

It was an all around great evening, with gorgeous 35mm prints of the films, a satisfyingly generous Q&A and demo session by Harryhausen who had a couple of the skeletons, etc., with him, and above all, my bringing home a prize which now happily resides in a $2.99 LP album frame.

Our library is now offering kindle books and the selection for those seems to be rapidly growing.  When I can't read the newer books in hardcover and they aren't available from the eBook library I must purchase them at the full price, which of course is what the publishers want.

I've been using DR Jrand61's method, which is to place a URL for the image between the "img" and "/img" commands.  Those are actually in [] brackets, and are easily accessed by clicking on the second-from-left tag, the one underneath the italics "I", in the editor.

(So, your image first has to reside somewhere on the World Wide Web.)

Basically, except after I download the photo to PB, I just cut and paste the URL, so I don't have to remember how to do it.

Chas if you click on your photo, it will come up on the left.  On the right hand side is a box that says links.  The bottom of that box says IMG code.  If you click on the white box, it will say Copied.  Then you just need to post it with a Control V.

Okay, I think I have got it.

As promised, just being lazy.  I did prep the eBlast and have listened to the two tracks of the second score on our new release - hopefully the rest will arrive soon.  I have to leave at four-fifteen for the salon thing, which thankfully is only three minutes away by car - in fact, it's around the corner from Vitello's.

What do directors see in that scrawny, underbite-afflicted Keira Knightley? It was bad enough that she was Elizabeth Bennett. Now she's Anna Karenina in a new movie.

TCB, I recommend an infrared heating pad. Two years ago I bought a BioMat and I use it almost daily. It is sooooo soothing to my back and it's very good for the circulation in my legs. I have the full-size one, but since I purchased it I've seen less expensive ones.

Something like this:

www.amazon.com/Therasage-Infrared-Heated-Healing-Small/dp/B0039OPBIA/ref=sr_1_2?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1340570314&sr=1-2&keywords=infrared+heating+pad (http://www.amazon.com/Therasage-Infrared-Heated-Healing-Small/dp/B0039OPBIA/ref=sr_1_2?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1340570314&sr=1-2&keywords=infrared+heating+pad)

I've seen them as low as $120.

Infrared heat is entirely different from what you get with the conventional heating pad. It actually penetrates several inches into the body. The heat has a different feel to it as well.

Our library is now offering kindle books and the selection for those seems to be rapidly growing.  When I can't read the newer books in hardcover and they aren't available from the eBook library I must purchase them at the full price, which of course is what the publishers want.

Well they are not available for nook because we don't have any Barnes and Nobles here. And while you can buy kindles in two or three stores Chapters (the biggest bookstore in Canada) sells the kobo. So i think the libraries will only make the ebooks available for kobos.

Personally i think a kobo is fine if you want to buy all new books at full price. But not if you want free ebooks or deals (there is nobody out there posting the deals of the day like they do for the kindle).

I don't like the idea of new ebooks being so expensive. Even if i would be tempted to buy them i just can't bring myself to do it (and this is even with having a lot of giftcards at amazon). I just don't feel like a new ebook should be $12 if i can buy it for cheaper in hardcover at places like the book depository (with free shipping).

They put a lane at the pool just for swimming. Supposedly is going to be up all season. yeah!

So i swam for the first time in many many months. ANd surprisingly I was not tired. I really thought i would have a tough time. And i can't really figure out why. I have been starting to exercise more and more in the last month. But i haven't been biking everyday (maybe twice a week only).

I have always found that the first couple of laps are the hardest. Then it gets easier and easier.

Can't help but notice that in MY zone (a.k.a. the Eastern time zone), it is now past noon.  And we are still on Page One.

I couldsay that most of the dear readers have not gotten home from church yet; but with a few exceptions, I doubt anyone would buy it.

This morning, I went to the Theater Artists Olympia's storage unit and helped sort costumes and stuff to either be kept or sold at our upcoming garage sale.  We sorted for about an hour and a half and won't keep as much as we're going to sell...well, make available for sale.  Who knows if they'll actually be bought.

I saw Peters, and she was better than I expected. She might have been really good with a director's help. The gossip going around is that the FOLLIES revival had no director and the actors received no help from the ass with the title. I'm sure Clark worked hard at the role and wanted everyone in the audience to see how hard she was working, her usual approach to a role.

Good thing you enjoy the hardcover books from the library.

DR Jane re: the ebook article you posted last night.

I would definitely borrow ebooks if my library had new releases for kindle.

But right now they have only for kobo. And i don't even think they have that many new releases. So double no for me.

I'm always impressed with the deals you find & I'm trying to follow your example a little bit.  I too cringed at paying the higher price for an ebook but at times have no choice if I want it.

Our local book store, which I like to support and was more willing to pay the higher price to do so, no longer offers eBooks.  When I purchase a book from Barnes and Noble I think that I am supporting their store, and in turn am supporting DR td.

How many people were swimming in the one lane?  I think it is a great idea so people can go any time they want.

My niece is a pretty good swimmer now. So i don't have to stay with her all the time in the pool. I had my mom keep an eye on her while i was swimming.

What do directors see in that scrawny, underbite-afflicted Keira Knightley? It was bad enough that she was Elizabeth Bennett. Now she's Anna Karenina in a new movie.

LOL I don't care who is Anna Karenina, I don't plan to watch it.  Keith might have another opinion on the subject.

Anna is one of my all-time favorite books. I loved it so much I even went to the musical. And then I went and bought the CD, even though the score isn't one of my favorites.

That musical is atrocious! I'd rather be ht by the train than listen to it again.

At our pool there are all sorts of classes going on, including a strenuous swim class which uses all the lanes.  There is a section for toddlers & non swimmers.  Now that school is out there are classes for children and loads of free swim time.

Right now the hour & forty-five minute free swim time in the three lanes is earlier than it used to be and less crowded.  I like this.

Today I got an incredible deal at a moving sale.  It's a beautiful little marble top chest.  There is also a marble top backsplash it's all a rose colored marble.   Everything is original and there are only a few spots where the maple veneer is missing.   My neighbors sell antiques so I asked them to look at it after I bought it.  They said it's a comode from the 1880s and if they were to sell it they would list it at $450-$500.  I bought it for $50.   I brought it in the mud room until I have a chance to clean it well.  It's not bad, but since I don't really know where it's been, I want to give it a good cleaning and will use a good furniture oil on it.   I promised the former owner I'd take very good care of it

This is an outdoor summer pool. Not the indoor pool i go to in the winter where half the pool is adult laps and the other half is adult exercising.

The other lanes are for people to just do whatever. Mostly kids playing. Last year you'd have to ask them to put up a lane because you could not swim with the kids playing.

They do have adult swim team at this pool. But I don't think i'm eligible to do it (although i would like to). I am only allowed to go when my niece goes (i have a babysitter pass for $50 for the whole summer).

Yes my niece is only 6 but she can swim the whole lane without stopping. She isn't really tall enough to stop (one half of the lane is a bit too deep for her). In fact she swam two laps only stopping for a minute or less in between.

DR TCB - if you have only used a PC, then adjusting to an Apple will take some time......sometimes it seems like you have to do things backwards.....but if you have a little computer savvy - it shouldn't take long to get the hang of it.

Some of your program disks may not work on the MAC......but I think your hardware should be okay.

It's a challenge - but it is not impossible, even for people on Social Security - like us.

We don't have anything except the TV (if you have power) or the radio, DR Ginny.  I've got both and my radio is one of the crank kind that if the batteries run out, I can still listen.

I also bought a small battery powered TV that picks up the new digital signals.   I knew it seemed like a silly purchase at the time but Walmart had them at Christmas for for around $75 so I bought one and put it in the closet for times like these.

I can get half way through our pool and still stand.  I know this because for the first half year of swimming I had to stand to catch my breath.  I then progressed to switching to different strokes where it was easier to breathe and not embarrass myself by standing.  I am soooo happy to now be able to do the crawl stroke, while turning my head to breathe, and make it all the way across the lane.

That is what I thought last night, but after turning off the light, rolling over, and saying good night to Nicky; I heard the softvoice of Jane saying, "I hope you will be able to sleep tonight after that long nap."

Thanks all.  I guess I could use some Debby Go Away vibes right now.  :)

My contacts are the type that you are allowed to sleep in for 30 days.  I just treat them like daily wear because I think that's silly but it comes in handy when this type of thing happens or if your sick and want to sleep on and off.

I put a bottle of drops by the bed in case they get dry.

My major concern is if we lose power, I won't have my CPAP machine and that means I'm going to have a horrible night.   My machine's time is up this summer so when I get the replacement, I'm going to talk with the doctor and ask if I can get one of the new ones with a battery back up, even if I have to pay for that part of it.

Sunday evening greetings!  We had an uneventful trip to Lima and back and I took a long nap when we got home.  I've now read both Sunday papers and set up a dinner visit from DN Lauren for tomorrow.

Drops are a good idea.  Actually not wearing them at night is also a good idea and I have been told this by various eye doctors.

A back up battery is a great idea for the CRAP machine.  Insurance might cover one since your condition is very serious.

It was just weird, because I had completely forgotten you had said that.  But it only delayed my sleep for about ten minutes.

Back from the salon.  I've heard all the songs that were being performed so it wasn't that interesting to me.  But the real problem is when the lyricist is setting up each song by saying things like, "We wrote this one as an exercise" or "We wrote this one because a music supervisor needed something" or "We wrote this one because we wanted to have a rhumba" or "We wrote this one to sound like a Mel Torme song."  In other words, academic, not passion.  I am only interested in songwriters who write from a place of passion, whether it's Broadway or pop or classical or jazz.

Had a nice big helping of Wacky Noodles - I do love them so.  Watched another Beck movie.
