...and speaking of movies, I was just perusing next weeks DVD releases...I am so happy to be living in this electronic age!

Don't these double feature DVDs just look like fun!!

Of course these are the reasons why I can't afford to go to NY this year!

Sacco and Vanzetti - Wow! I am very familiar with their case and I want to see this.   I'm a federal defender and just finished my second term on the board of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.  I would love to pass the info about the film on to others - some who may be interested in helping out.

DR Cillaliz:

If you find us some angels to help us with our mounting stock footage bills, I will cat sit for you ad infinitum! ;D

I do have a wonderful friend---a former film editor for Fellini, etc. who has offered her home in Tuscany for a week to anyone who makes a donation of a certain amount to our film. I can't remember the amount, seems like it was maybe a thousand, or a little more. But hey, it's TAX DEDUCTABLE! We had an article about this in an Italian American newsletter; it generated two $10 donations from little old ladies, but that's $10 more than we did have!

We shot part of our film in Rome, and rented her apartment there. If anyone is looking to take a vacation to Italy, I highly recommend renting one of her places:

Am I making myself at home here, or what?

So happy to have edisaurus with us.  And I think many of us have seen The Music Man doc on the DVD!  I'll be talking about The Music Man for reasons that will become clear in tomorrow's notes.

Thanks, BK for your kind and welcoming words. I've loved the Music Man ever since I was a child, when the movie first came out. So it was a treat for me to work on the "Making Of..." doc. I snuck up to NY for the revival of that, to be sure. Too bad Atlanta is so far away from Broadway...

I'm looking forward to seeing what you have to say about TMM in tomorrow's notes!

Hello DRs, new DRs, Birthday DRs, and Esteemed BK --

Just wanted to pop into the Living Room, make sure the lights were all on, and say goodnight.  It's been a long day, and so it's time to go seduce Morpheus .

I'll look forward to tomorrow's notes BK - I'm a big TMM fan.   ".....may I play my cross hands piece?"

No, I haven't seen "The Conversation."  I assume that there is a scene with toilets?  Do I really want to watch this?? ;) Actually, I've already added it to my Netflix queue, so I will be getting it as soon as I turn in one of the movies that I have now...that I still have yet to watch. ::)

If you don't like toilet scenes, avoid TRAINSPOTTING.

Thanks for the tip. ;)

RE smoking:  I grew up in a smoking household - both parents.  Fortunately my mother quit about 35 years ago and is still with us.  My dad continued, even after surgery to repair an aortal aneurysm, and died of heart disease in his mid-60s.  I attribute my compromised respiratory system and my proclivity to pneumonia to 18 years of second-hand smoke.  When I was doing a lot of community theater, I was afraid I'd get a part that called for smoking - someone would have had to teach me.  Never got such a part and have never smoked.

I grew up with smoking parents, also.  My mom quit about a month before my niece was born (22 and a half years ago), but my dad is still smoking. :P Neither my sister nor I smoke and no on on my niece's father's family smokes.  I have done community theater (and will again starting next week!), but I've never had to play a smoker and I don't know if I would be able to.  I don't like to be around smoke, if I can avoid it.  And the idea of playing a role that smokes, even if they're clove cigarettes, doesn't appeal to me at all.

edisaurus - if you do a search I'm sure you'll find it - but I've written about Monique Vermont, who played Amaryllis in the film, several times over the years - she's in my third book, the final part of the Kritzer trilogy, because I attended an acting class with her.  Well, someone who knows her told her about what I'd written, he wrote me to tell me that she was delighted, and then one fine night she called me, and we had a wonderful chat.

And guess who just sent an e-mail to me via Kritzerland?  Diane Baker, that's who.

The Puyallup Fair was quite fun!  We just walked around and ate.  I had a funnel cake!  The second in as many months, otherwise, I haven't had a funnel cake in several years!  It was quite yummilishious with powdered sugar, hot fudge sauce and whipped cream.  I also had a very yummy burger and finally (just before we left), a chocolate/vanilla swirled soft-serve cone.

As for purchases, I bought some fudge (chocolate with walnuts, European dark chocolate and Oreo...to be enjoyed later) and a new wallet.  I've needed a new one for a while and this one is quite nice.

And that was my evening at the Puyallup Fair! ;D

Good Evening!

Greetings from DC!

The trip back to DC was nice and uneventful.  I really do love the Amtrak Acela trains. They are definitely worth the extra expense.  *And since Amtrak's Guest Rewards program is currently running two promotions - 15% off your ticket, and triple reward points - the roundtrip only ends up costing about $25 more than the regular regional trains (at least during the off-peak times), and after just one more roundtrip, I qualify for a free ticket.  Not a bad deal at all.

:)

Seriously though, SACCO AND VANZETTI sounds like a wonderful film, and very timely. It is the type of program I would enjoy seeing.

Probably, Uncle Mike, if they were still alive they would both be very old.

It was great catching up with DR elmore earlier tonight.  I just happened to finish running some errands in his neighborhood, so I gave him a call, and a couple minutes later we ended up at La Cocina.  Fun, fun, fun!

-And, yes, DRs, your ears were burning earlier tonight.  ;D

DR TCB - Unfortunately, it appears that marriage has made Nick "shy".  I've tried, trust me, I've tried.  -Maybe I just need to take him to La Cocina for 2-for-1 margaritas.  ;)

DRs Cillaliz and jhvw - Hmm... That week of October is pretty crazy for me, and I'm not sure I'll be in NYC while you guys are in NYC.  But I'll see what I can work out.  The only possible day for me to meet up with you would be that Wednesday.  At least right now.  I'll keep you posted.

Diane Baker, The Music Man, The Sins of Jezebel.

Where else on ALL the internet can you find such discussions.

I also enjoyed that TMMM documentary, DR EDISAURUS.
