DR elmore - Have you read the "The Pillars of the Earth"?
It's one of those books I didn't think I would like - especially since it was suggested to me by a 12-year old(!) - but once I got into it, well... I loved it. Some truly exciting writing - and reading.
And the word of the day is: CLINQUANT!

I will be in Medford, Oregon this weekend so likely won't be watching anything, unless I have some time tonight...and since I just recorded THE UNGUARDED MOMENT off TCM, perhaps I will watch that.
CD:
For the trip to Medford, probably lots of 1940s Big Band and some Nelson Riddle, to keep my mom happy during the long drive south.

Very nice! You haven't adapted this as/from a play, have you? Something like this would be perfect for Theater Artists Olympia (http://www.olytheater.com/)!
;)
Here we are at last night's Cleopatra book discussion. There were several other book groups represented, but ours is by far the longest running - almost 19 years!
Very scary, Ginny.
DR Elmore - those notes are beautiful!
And Grease certainly was the word this evening as the show was great. Or "cute" as my mother put it. However, her DP was rather impressed that I got the 8th grade boys to sing (as he just retired from teaching 8th grade PE) - it was a great show. I'm proud of them. Next week, graduation.:D
Then we will watch Doc Martin on PBS.
Here's Mary Linda's status update for this morning:
"100 Days and counting!!! Can't believe we're so close to single digits."

Two days ago, around noon, my blood sugar dropped suddenly and emphatically, and I had to run to a CVS Pharmacy across from the school where we were rehearsing for a candy bar. Yesterday I took with me to rehearsal a bag of butterscotch drops. I passed them out to the cast during a break, and everyone was saying "It takes me back to my grandmother's house."
Mulholland Drive has arrived at my house.
I am off to do some things in preparation for tomorrow.....so I may be errant and truant for the next couple of days.
Part Four of the series on PCPH;

Who says HHW vibes don't work? Everything went really, really well and I think we've begun something full of heart and rather special. Everyone's excited about the next step.
The donations started arriving in the mail today. Just a few so far, but I am really pleased and thankful that people want to help Joe. I contacted my brother in law who is going to help coordinate on their end to make sure we have good records and have things set up in Joplin for Joe. It's turning into a real family project and I love that they are a part of it.

Cillaliz, I keep forgetting to tell you...I mentioned Joe's situation to a co-worker and she suggested setting up a PayPal account for him so that people can just donate that way. No checks lost in the mail and all that and Joe and the givers get an instant record of the transactions. Just a suggestion. :)
i'm still chilled from our morning walk & sherlock is still wet. i had to put a plastic poop bag oner my splint to keep it dry, better silly looking then suffering the consequences later.
OH!!! I am going to a pot luck tomorrow night. I'm taking beans. I usually do baked beans with bacon and brown sugar to doctor them up a bit. However, there are several vegetarians who will be there and most of the fare has meat of one sort or another in it, so I wanted a vegetarian friendly dish. Does anyone have a good vegetarian bean recipe that would go well with burgers or brats?
Thank you all for the vibes and the congrats! DJ and I have been working the computers all afternoon, sending thank you notes and "are you interested in working on this with us?" notes to people who came today. I've also found a gorgeous Scottish folksong, "Will Ye No Come Back Again?," that I think might be good for the mother to sing about the son who's left home. I think the women need a parallel scene to the one with the men, which is broad and comic, that explains a bit about their characters.
Tomorrow, I've got laundry in the morning and I've got to tidy this dump and vacuum. DR cillaliz, I've made out a check, but I cannot send it for another week until my May 31 invoice is paid.

Greenbean casserole, with mushroom soup. I love it. I have to say, though, baked beans can be good without ham or bacon, I would prefer them with the meat, but there must be enough spices to perk them up!

I thought of that even started the process, there are several problems with it not the least of which is that Joe has no internet access. My sister thinks they may have internet restored at their house next week, not sure.
I was going to set a paypal account up for him, but if it's in my name or I can access the funds, it could be considered income to me for tax purposes and I really don't want to pay tax on money that isn't going to me. If you use credit cards, they also charge fees, even on the fundraising money.
I just decided having checks or money orders made out to Joe, so I can't cash them (then they can't be my income), and having them sent to my office so that no one's home address is floating around on the web was the best way to go. It may mean there are some people who won't donate, but so be it, I hope they will donate to the Red Cross or some other organization. I don't think it will stop people who know us. If you aren't comfortable sending a check, you could always send a gift card. That wouldn't have any personal information on it.

Ahh..you have thought this out very thoroughly.
I get paid Tuesday, so I'll be able to send a check then. :D
How very sad to read that my favorite of all times aunt, Huguette Clark, passed away. I wonder if I will be remembered? ;)

I have been trying to forget you and cannot! Does that settle the question?
In my DVD player right now is "The Dying Gaul" with Campbell Scott, Peter Sarsgaard and Patricia Clarkson. I had no idea that Kelli O'Hara had a bit part in it. If you blink, you can easily miss her. Otherwise, it starts out kind of slow but gets pretty intense by the end.
As I said yesterday, we may break out Duchess of Duke Street and Downton Abbey this weekend since it's a nice, long vacation enhanced couple of days.

The Duchess of Duke Street? Is that elmore's drag name?
My viewing has been limited almost exclusively to review product recently, what has included a number of rather outre anime titles. I'm writing about SOUL EATER today, which is a truly odd series that is like Tim Burton and Peter Max having an anime love child.
I did get my advance copy of THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING yesterday, so maybe I will relieve the tedium by watching that today.
... I missed you people so much. *laughs*
Nothing too new on my front- Hanging out at home since there's no school today. Going to the Italian Feast tonight with a good number of friends. Hopefully, there shall be no "Incidents" this time around; we've been having a bit of bad luck with summer traveling fairs the past few years, whether they be muggings, people needing to go home due to illness, or the need to avoid someone while at a small park, be they parent or an ex of someones.
I've been in Cinemascope since I turned about 43 or so. :)

How is Cleopatra's Daughter?
The book's premise and content were interesting, but the writing style didn't really "sing" to me or to the other members of my group. The other readers who were at the discussion in Cincinnati lo-o-o-oved it, so the 4 of us pretty much kept our mouths shut.
His widow is his sister? Wow, that's quite a book
She is fascinated by the black widows. And she can hardly wait until we go to see the bats some night.

Day care starts on Tuesday, so I expect we will finish up "Little House on the Prairie" on Monday.

The people responsible for the exhibit told us last night that someone in their office put Cleopatra's data into Family Tree Maker, the genealogy software, and it kind of went TILT!!!
So, I bought a new automatic drip coffee maker today and just unpacked it, washed the carafe, and followed the christening instructions, running a pot of plain water through the brew cycle. It took f-o-r-e-v-e-r and not near as much water came out as went in. If it doesn't do any better with coffee tomorrow morning, it's going back to Kroger.
DR Vixmom, I bought the cheapest 12-cup Mr. Coffee, because I didn't want anything fancy.
DR Laura, With 2 coffee-drinkers (Rob and myself) wanting several cups in quick succession, the Keurig seems inefficient to me. I know lots of people who love them - so convince me!

And I am home after some barbecue on 45th Street. Everything that was disorganized during the week seemed to jell this morning. We spent 40 minutes or so on the material for Ben, who was away frm rehearsals for the past two days. He arrived knowing both solos, courteasy of mp3 files, and we had to refresh his memory on "West Virginia Mine Disaster." David Lutken lost the guitar part for "Cherry Tree Carol," so I copied that out for him and Jarrod when I got there. David, God bless him, became the host he was playing and even the sloppier moments went smoothly. That's really super news.
People began arriving around 10:50, and we broke around 10:55, took ten-minute break and began somewhere around 11:10. The presentation lasted around 50 minutes, and we want to show to run about 75-80 minutes. There were about 20 people in the audience, including my friends DR Julie and Melly, Wendy Bobbitt, an MD I know of but had never met, Carl Moeller. Andrew Gerle, and other friends of the actors.

It is one of my very few indulgences.
And then I met my friend, Eric, for dinner. -He flies off to Albuquerque tomorrow for two weeks to play for a viola competition. And then he's off to France, Spain and Portugal for a month. -So we wanted to get together for a good dinner before we both head out of town.I'll take a month in Portugal.
