How did I miss that? I will investigate...

I await the results of your investigation!  :)

Sublime Doughnuts

It happens to be very close to Turner, and if things keep going the way they are right now, I may be working there sooner than later!

It gets sunny and then clouds over for awhile, then the sun comes back out. Very weird afternoon. But no rain thus far.

Let's have a rousing chorus of "Don't Nobody Bring Me No Bad News"!

I hate (well, actually, sort of delight) in being the curmudgeonette, BUT I just read this bad news DR RonnieP -- scientists think some volcanic activity in China caused that mass extinction millions of years ago (sorry, but I thought you'd want to know even after or in spite of that rousing chorus)

Which mass extinction?

Uh-oh, this is gonna be a really bad news day, so you may want to sit down for this one, DR Ronnie P (unless of course you're an anti-evolutionist and find all this science stuff pipe dreams) -- As the story goes, the Earth experienced a really bad extinction -- the one about 260 million years ago called the Guadalupian Mass Extinction (the one they now think was caused by a Chinese volcano) ...

...and more bad news if you're a Betty fan, Archie finally picked Veronica (she got the ring after 65 years)....

I recorded LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT from last night thinking it was the same as last Sunday's broadcast on USA, but it wasn't. It was the Norbert Leo Butz episode from two weeks ago, so I deleted it.

So, while I ate lunch, I watched an episode from the NCIS Season 5 box set. This was the one with a couple trying to hide the fact they had paid for a surrogate mother to carry their baby after the baby got stolen. A bit off the beaten path for NCIS, but it was still entertaining.

Then I began on my work project: CANNON, Season 2, Volume 1. I was able to get three entire episodes watched plus half of a fourth one. (There are 12 episodes in the set). None so far have been first rate procedurals; I don't think CANNON was as slick or as exciting as HAWAII FIVE-O, so the episodes aren't as much fun to watch as those.

Among the guest stars in the four episodes I've watched thus far today: Michael Tolan, Larry Linville, Richard Hatch, Lloyd Bochner, Jessica Walter, and Robert Webber.

One thing I found very interesting. In the third episode, Micky Dolenz played one of Lloyd Bochner's henchmen. Only Micky wasn't listed among the guest stars in the episode. He was relegated to bottom first page billing after the episode concluded. What a shock! Starring in a network series for a couple of years and then a couple of years later, he can't even rate guest star billing on a network series.

With nothing coming on TV tonight for me to watch, looks like I'll get five or six more of these watched today. That should make it very easy to finish up with the set tomorrow.

I did get my box set of THE CLOSER in the mail today. (Not to review; I bought it for pleasure.)

I did get the Blu-ray of THE SEVENTH SEAL from Criterion in the mail today, but it doesn't come out for a few weeks, so I won't be starting on it until I get at least one more TV box set finished. The next one up is Benjamin Bratt's A&E series THE CLEANER which should be fun to watch since I've never seen a single episode.

Well, hopefully I don't jinx things by mentioning this, but though official contracts are not signed, we did manage to get Dave Frishberg for the second season of Rave in the Nave.  I hope any of you left coasters might consider coming to Portland on November 21 for this very rare concert opportunity (and cheap, too, at $15).  Dave is about to play the Feinstein Room for a few days in NYC, where the cost will be significantly more than $15 ;), and then he's off to Chicago and other points east.  I'm really, really excited about this--I've loved Dave since I was a kid and he played with the TJB, and I adore his sides with Lani Hall, which are among the best things she did post B66.  And of course Dave was best friends with BK's close personal acquaintance, the late Julius Wechter (though Dave told me he doesn't think he's ever met you, BK).

I'm guessing late payment/final check.

TOD:

Manipulators -- (just tell me what you want, and I'll tell you if I want to do it or not)
Stupid drivers -- (i.e. -- slow drivers, dangerous drivers, idiot drivers)
Buttinskis -- (people who cut in line -- well, in general, people who think they are entitled -- divas)
Unreliables -- (people who don't keep their word/won't do what they tell you they will do)

When working at the theatre:

Divas!
Mess Pots (folks who don't leave things as they find them -- leave a mess for you to clean up)
Folks who move, play with, or take (steal) other folks' props/costumes (especially after you tell them your golden rule is "don't mess with other people's stuff")

In short: roommates, lease, security deposit.

I wasn't even close. Speaking of Mr Farrow and Mr Newport, they sure dislike our occasional DR Noel!

I got back from the grocery with heavy bags of groceries, and while I was waiting for the elevator to come down to the first floor I dropped one of the bags and ended up with $10 worth of broken jars, a lot of groceries bathed in applesauce, jelly, and other things, and all because the rude shits on the upper floor of my building are not considerate enough to send the elevator back down when they get off on their floor. This has been a frustration for 30 years but the elevator cannot be programmed to return to the first floor and, while there have been too many times in 30 years I've waitied - as other tenants have - with arms ful of laundry, grocieries, other shopping bags, or books, this is the first time I've ended up dropping something and breaking it. Pisses me off.

Why the hell is my computer suddenly running so slowly in the past two days? Is it the rain? Spyware? Too many porn downloads?

Is there no room for a table by the elevator on which to set parcels while waiting?

Not all New York apartments are as fantastic as those in sitcoms. No table, no ledge, nada.

In one of the buildings my uncles owned on W. 11th where I used to stay it had one of those inner "cage" doors on the elevator, and the elevator would not come hither if the cage were not completely closed.  Which meant if you pressed the call button and nothing happened, you had to walk up flights of stairs to track down what floor the damned thing was on, close the cage, and then go back down and wait for it.  (Little joke there).
